I own 4 pitbulls, and to me they are very kind and protective animals. People are scared of them for the wrong reasons, they are just like any breed of dogs, they will turn on you if put in a bad spot, or tought other wise. I personally love everything about them, from there look, but especially there personalities. A while back i was scared to own one, because everyone always talked about how aggressive they are, but a friend got me one as a gift, and from there on out i rather own a pit then any other breeed of dog.
We have had a rescued American Pit Bull Terrier as a member of our family for the past six years. We could not ask for a more loving sweet, people friendly dog. He loves everyone he meets and is very generous with his big sloppy kisses. He lives happily with his human mom & Dad and a dalmation "sister", great dane "brother" and 2 pesky cats. He has even been on TV when our local station was doing a story on our fight against BSL in Baltimore City, MD.Our boy Gus is not the exception of the breed, he is the rule. There need to be more stories covering the truth about Pit Bulls instead of all the overblown sensationalism. Any time a dog that is in any way, shape, or form pit bull like causes a problem reporters show up like sharks attracted to blood in the water, Where are they when responsible owners try to educate people about our breed and the insanity of BSL ?
From the beginning this extraordingary breed, has been loved and admired by the common man. Now, in our present hateful and confused society, it has become a lightening rod for our misinformed media. Hopefully, someone will have the courage to at least tell their story in a fair and impartial manner!
Finally something to even listen to. I own two pitbulls and they are my pride and joy. They are very playful and loving. People's biased and uneducated minds have challenged these animals and have labeled them as "unfit" animals in society. Instead of making assumptions towards these lovely animals, challenge yourself and get to know one. My friend crissy encouraged me to own a pitbull and it has been the best experience for me. Educating people like we train dogs would help nonowners of pitbulls get over the stigmas.
I know of a very sweet male pit bull and also see and hear of the pit bulls used in dog fights in this city..big difference. I love pit bulls. Ban all the irresponsible owners who make it harder for those who are responsible to own a wonderful loving breed.
I am an owner of the breed and have a small children. We have four pitbulls and they have been the most loving and affectionate pet imaginable. Banning pitbulls would be similar to trying to ban some ethinic group from the US because someone of their ethnicity commited a crime. You don't make everyone pay for a couple of irresponsible owners. That is not what America is about, and being an American gives us rights and we need to insure that they are not taken away from us.
If you're truly "Fair and Balanced,"you'll let responsible owners of the "Bully" breeds show you the good side of the 90-95% of these dogs you never hear anything about. Thanks in advance. an avid fan...
Cigarettes,cars,
alcohol, guns and even deer kill and injure more people in a year than pitballs do. The goveronment does not ban any of these things. They put restrictions on who and how to use these things. Yet with pitballs lets just ban them. Why not try other alternatives first?
Unfortunately the wrong people are attracted to our breed. Please help shed some light on the real values of these dogs as family companions. Not all are dog/animal aggresive. But they are all misunderstood.
We have all heard the saying "People kill not guns" the only difference here is that pit bulls aren't made to kill they can be wonderful pets if only people stopped using their physical characteristics to cause damage
Any breed can be made to fight if they are denied food or are burned with cigarettes, beat, or tortured. Manitory jail time for owners, not euthanasia for innocent animals is part of the answer. Anyone who will abuse an animal, will do the same to a child or elderly person. It's all about power over anyone/anything weaker than they are.
Criminals, irresponsible dog owners, and the media have done a major disservice to the phenomenal American Pit Bull Terrier. The media has the ability and the responsibility to do right by these dogs. Please try to reverse some of the negative attention put on Pits. Show America that Pit Bulls are still deserving of the pride and respect we once bestowed on them such as back during WWI. They haven't changed, we have. Bans don't work and my dogs don't deserve to become fugitives! Help stop the insanity.
There aren't bad breeds. There are uneducated people, and irresponsible dog owners, not to mention those who grossly abuse dogs and other animals. They certainly aren't born that way.
There is no expert endorsement of BSL. Across North America, all agree that BSL will fail miserably and not provide increased safety to the public. ROLE - Responsible Ownership Legislation for Everyone!
Ask the experts - impliment their recommendations.
Serving as an animal control officer for 5+ years, I have dealt with many pitbulls and have NEVER had any agresssive problems with any of them. Any breed can be aggressive if not raised and trained correctly. Humans should educate themselves as to proper care and training of ANY breed of dog and if they are not willing to put in the time and expense, then they should not own one.
I am the owner of a pit mix who is very gentle and loving. Any dog's behavior and it doesn't matter what breed, has to do with how it was raised and treated. People need to be educated that pit bull are not the monsters the media makes them out to be. BLAME THE DEED NOT THE BREED!!!
I own two rottweiler and a pit bull and I rescue both breeds as well. They are wonderful dogs, great with my kids too (ages 3yrs and 10 months. THERE ARE NO BAD DOGS ONLY BAD OWNERS!
I believe that if you raise an animal to love and respect others it will be your best friend in the world. Raise it to hate and kill and it will be your worst enemy. So let us go to bat for this breed and educate the rest of the world .
Specific breed outlawing is an act of incredible ignorance! Please let EDUCATED people do the research(there will be research done won't there?) and then make decisions on this. While you're at it...try to include people who actually know about dogs and breeds!
Are you kidding me? Like humans, dogs behave how they are brought up and there surrounding enviroment. It goes with all breed of dogs. Doberman Pinchers are concidered to be dangerous. And are potrayed by TV. But yet there are more attacks of chiwawa's then a pitbulls. If you feel like banning an breed of an animal. You might as well ban a race of the human species.
Remember that there is not a scientific test available to determine any breed of dog. Therefore, all statistics used to support breed bans are skewed from the start. IRRESPONSIBLE OWNERS are the problem, not the breed of dog.
The breed is not the problem the owners and so called people that make these dogs aggressive. dont punish a good breed, my grandchildren play with our pitbulls all the time and the dogs will let the children do anything they want, there friends too.
Its all how the dog is raised.
Dogs on chains and living in a yard 24/7 are more likely to be aggressive, no matter what the breed is. Legislate spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership instead of punishing a breed.
Punish the deed not the breed, show these pitbulls for what they really are. Faithfull and loyal companions, therapy dogs, search and rescues...and family members.
I will do anything to stop a ban of pitbulls! I love my dog and he loves me! It is wrong to take away a pet because others can't raise their pets! I will never let my dog to be taken away!
i have owned pitbulls for 10 yrs. i have seen the good and the bad.the bad comes from people that teach their dogs to do the wrong things.i have taken dogs that where used to fight and that where used to hunt wild pigs.with the wright time and effort.these dogs can become sweet and loveing family pets.my wife and i owned a shih tzu that little dog was the nastiest dog i have ever owned.bit are kids everyday until we could sell it.to some that did not have kids.
I love pitbulls. They aren't scary! It's the media that makes them seem like they should be feared. People are the ones that make them evil, when/if they are. Let's "ban" people instead.
The "bad" pit bulls are the only ones that ever end up on the 10 o'clock news. The only reason they are bad is because people take advantage of their loyalty, strenth and agility. A pit bull type dog, like any other, makes a wonderful companion when in the proper environment, and treated like a family member. Unfortunately, pit bulls are viewed by the general public as man-eating killers. What they dont know...is that not all pits are tied out back to a tree by a log chain, fed gun powder as babies, fed kittens and forced to fight.
Just like human beings, behavior is influenced much more by the manner in which one is nurtured than by "nature". A close friend has a pit bull terrier that was rescued from a line of champion fighters. Though not terribly bright (not surprising since he was bred for size and not intelligence to fight), he is none-the-less as sweet and easy-going as any other dog that is raised with love like a member of the family. Our 100 pound white german shepherd is another example of a much maligned breed that is as loving as and sweet as anyone could imagine. Her sister, incidentally, who was raised by a canine police officer to be more agressive, ultimately had to be put to sleep because of her learned aggressiveness. Punish behavior not breed!
Labs and Cocker Spaniels are at the TOP of the bite list; Pit Bulls are FOURTH from the BOTTOM!!!! It's not the dog breed - it is the irresponsibility of the owners that should be of issue.
Pit prejudice is becoming more widespread due to the poor media coverage that they recieve. They are wonderful pets, and are saddly missunderstood.People need to stop fearing what they don't understand , and stop being ignorant!
my friend's two year old son was killed by a pittbull, and yet we need to have compassion for them, that dog probably would not have killed him had it not been treated its whole life like it was a vicious animal.
As a group, pet owners face the serious problem of BSL. Pit Bulls can be misunderstood, many people can't even recognize a picture of one. Rather then pointing a finger at any breed, we need to carefully consider how to be responsible owners.
I feel Fox news should air both sides of the Pit Bulls. We always see the attacks
(The one sided story) reported without anyone asking, because it is newsworthy.
Now Fox should make an example to show the rest of the Media giants, you can step up to the plate and show that every story has two sides...and you are willing to take that chance and air it.
It is all in how they are raised! The only kind of legislation that will help is the kind that protects ALL breeds from ignorant, malicious and/or neglectful owners. When well treated and properly trained ANY dog can be a wonderful family pet! I grew up with an American Pit Bull Terrier and am now the happy owner of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. These are the most loving dogs I have ever known! Gentle, kind, and playful!
It is a shame to know this wonderfull dogs are blamed for humans sins, all we know about this dogs is bad publicity and horrendus crimes people does using them, that is not fair, we need to do something to help. A creature can't be hated for actions perfomed by humans.
Im writing to say that I, like alot of people use to be afraid of the breed. I listened to ignorant people and the harsh rumors. I then rescued my first pitbull years ago and she has showed me that you can not judge by the breed. Judge by the indivual dog. Just like not one person is the same, neither is a dog. Look past the look and learn to love what is underneath.
Pitbulls can be some of the nicest dogs to be around. It is not the breed but bad ownership that has created the problem. Please air the segment on the truth about bitbulls.
IM 18YRS OLD AND I HAVE BEEN RAISED AROUND PITBULLS ALL MY LIFE ITS HOW U RAISE THEM THERE ARE SO PRETTY....THE OTHER DAY THERE WAS A PIT RUNNIN IN THE STREET AND EVERYONE WAS RUNNING ME IM NOT AFRAID I CALLED IT OVER IT AND TOOK IT IN MY HOUSE AND FEED IT I HAVE 2PITBULLS RIGHT NOW AND A STANDARD POODLE AND THERE ALL GET A LONG AND TODAY I GOT A KITTEN AND THERE ALL A FAMILY.....ALL I HEAR IN THE NEWS IS ABOUT PITS WHA ABOUT ALL THE OTHER ANIMALS AND DOGS ATTACK AND THERE ARE ALL LIRES SO THERE NEED TO STOP

WHAT IS SO AMAZING ...IS PEOPLE CONTINUE TO SPEW LIES FOR MOVEMENTS THEY DONT EVEN KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT!
