like other breeds with bad reputations the source of the problem is a human one. morons, idiots, macho bs males have given bad reps to these dogs while the dogs are most undeserving. The way I look at it, the dogs are blamed for everything and sometimes pay the ultimate price when the fault is the owner, because the dog can't fight back and those with authority who think they know what is best for everyone don't have the guts to place the blame where it belongs.
"All abuse stems from weakness". These dogs dont need our hate right now, they need our help. I will never own any other breed but the bully breeds. Very loyal, trustworthy when raised in the right home, punish the deed NOT the breed! Please show how the TRUE pit bull is, not he vicious monsters HUMANS make them.
Please take an honest look at the breed and not just the hype from the rest of the media. Someone needs to get the story out in a balanced and fair way --
Isolation, neglect, cruel treatment and refusal to neuter or train can cause any breed to be a problem. Pitbulls are not the problem. I have 2 pitbulls, a german shep., and a lab/terrier x...all males. All rescues, all neutered. Before proposing "feel-good" legislation that will not solve the problem of dangerous dogs, why not talk with responsible people who live with and love these affectionate and people-friendly dogs?
My pit is the friendliest dog at the park. While on her back in a submissive position she was attacked by a malmute one time .....she's also been beat up a little by a yorkie - cut her head ....are these two breeds next on the list?
Please take a REAL look at a breed that has been maligned for the benefit of ratings. For once, do the the honorable thing and show this breed as the stable breed they are and expose the irresponsible owners rather than condemning a breed.
Our family is the proud owner of 9 family Pit Bulls. Our dogs are loyal and true. www.purepitbulls.com. We have never had any problems with any of our dogs. If these dogs are so aggressive you would think that the odds are that at least on of our dogs would be aggressive. Well thats proof positive enough for me.
Our Pit Bull was loyal, loving, playful and intelligent. She would literally tear if you said a cross word to her. She was well behaved and loved everyone..and everyone loved her. Contray to popular belief not everyone that owns a Pit Bull is a pickup-driving gun-toting redneck.
I have owned pit bulls for 25yrs and never have had a problem. While circulating a petion against the ontario ban I explained to a couple in a apartment building how this will affect all dogs and was told that they could not wait until the law was passed so they could phone and report that the neighbours pit lunged at them to get it out of the building . They admitted it did not lunge at them but they were doing this for the safety of everyone?
We have owned two Pit Bulls, Now and They are the most loyal dogs. I wouldn't trade mine in for any other breed. Oh and By the way we have a 3 year old and we're pregnant with our second. My Son Rolls ALL Over out Pit and she doesn't care. She loves it. Punish The Deed NOT the Breed!
The most family friendly dogs I have known have been Pit(sic) Bulls. I have a friend whose two sons have learned to walk hanging on their Pit Bulls' ears!
Let's not kid ourselves, once again its ignorant, nasty humans that have made this and so many other breeds get a terrible reputation. It's not the dog, it's the Human being behind it.
We need to educate the public from the beginning. In the 1940's this was the family pet-not goldens and labs. I love my pit-- Arizona, and so does anyone that meets her.
It's time to use the power of the press in a good way. Not all pit bulls are mean, aggressive, killing machines. I'm sure if your reporters did a little digging, they could come up with a story that portrays these dogs properly.
It is not the Bully Breeds that are the problem..it is those who use/train the breed for illegal fighting which causes the problem. The law enforcement community needs to become more involved in arresting/fining/incarcer ating the people involved and STRICLY ENFORCING court rulings when these people are brought into THE court SYSTEM. Banning specific breeds does not correct the problem. Again, this is an indication of people being the problem...not the dogs! ANY dog can be taught to fight
I love this breed they have made wonderful pets and are great with our son. All animals can be dangerous if not treated properly I wish people would not single out one type of breed just because they are ignorant in their knowledge on these dogs. I agree with those who say banning the pitbull breed does not solve anything its the irresponsible owners who need to be ban from having any pets at all.
I do not own a Pit Bull or AmStaff. I do own a Bull Terrier and BSL effects me. My Bull Terriers are of sound temperament and verywell trained earning their CGC and TDI. Also working as Canine Ambassadors. As an owner I took responsibility for this when considering allowing a dog in to my home to live with my family, which includes a 6 and 2 year old. Those who write BSL need to realize that when things go wrong with ANY breed dog they must look at the owner and the circumstances surrounding the incident. I'm not signing this to save pit bulls - I'm signing this to stop BSL and save all dogs. BSL will not stop at the pit bull - we are all effected. "Punish the deed not the breed."
Breed specific bans do not work, those who are inclined to train dogs to be aggressive will just move to another breed. Owner responsibility and training is the only reasonable approach to problems like this. We don't ban alcohol because some people drive drunk and kill, we don't ban cigerettes because they kill people, this situation is no different.
I HAVE A 4YR OLD MALE PITBULL IN MY HOUSE, WHICH WE HAVE HAD SINCE HE WAS 3MONTHS OLD. I ALSO HAVE A 6YR OLD SON IN MY HOME. MY NIECES, WHICH ARE 1 1/2 AND 4 VISIT MY HOME WEEKLY. THEY LOVE MY PITBULL. HE SMILES AT THEM AND KISSES THEM.
I was also one of those persons that believed the lies about these dogs, till my son brought one home 9 yrs ago as a puppy. Fell in love with this dog and now own 2 of my own. They are the smartest and kindest dog I have ever owned. Would not own another breed again.
Take a child an put him under harsh stressful conditions for long periods. What kind of person will this child become? Traumatic situations CHANGE people, why wouldn't it be different with animals?

I grew up with pitbulls in the family and we never had an aggression problem. 25 years later I have an adopted pitbull, and have found it very difficult to find a place to live. We seem to be banned everywhere!
