my management does not allow pit bulls in the park...I believe this is an outrage...to determine how my dog will be by other peoples ignorance is ignorance in itself
I think this is one of the best breeds you can ever own, especially with children, dogs, any breed will grow to be what the owner or owners raise it to be.
My good friends have had a pit bull, for 7 years, and never a problem. The dog is gentle with children and very friendly & happy to be around people. Dogs are an extension of the owners and how they have been treated.
I have owned my pit for a while now and everyone that has ever known him and come to the house fall in love with him because he is a well behaved, non-aggressive dog. All hw would rather do is eat, sleep, or want to be played with every minute of the day. He is like a big part of my life and the truth should be told about these wonderful dogs.
I've never known an agressive pit bull or AmStaff and have known many. They are intuitive, intelligent and loyal if raised properly. Any dog can be abused and neglected and made aggressive. Pit Bulls don't deserve the reputation they have attained through human ignorance or greed.
I have 3 rotts and have know many stafordshie dogs (correct name of what you call a "pit" ) Gotti would jump in my lap and beg to go for a ride int eh car every time I saw him, he let me give him meds and showed me into his home when the owner was away, this after only meeting me once. I have know many big babies that only want to be loved and hugged and go "bye bye's" it is in the raising of the dog. I have also know many chuhahua's that are nasty and bite and grow, I have known that scottish terriers are nasty dogs that bite. It is a know fact that a large breed bite does a lot more damage than a small breed, this is why the numbers on small breed bites are not correct, they go unreported. I bet if they were reported that they would by far outnumber large breed bites. Did you know that labs and shepherds are prone to bite as well. It is all how you bring up the animal, blame the owners and their lack of knowing how to raise a loving dog, not the breed. All 3 of my rotts are lap dogs and 1 of them is a therapy dog. They have never bitten in all their years and I trust them with my life. The more I see of you people, the more I love my dog. Get your facts straight or simply ban ALL breeds of dogs in the usa.
I own 2 APBT's and they are wonderful pets. They are as friendly or aggressive as their owners want them to be. It is the ego maniac owners that make a bad name for these dogs. I have 2, and they are model citizens - the favorites of everybody at ptesmart. If you want to see their NATURAL temperaments, just checjk the American Temperament Testing society (www.atts.com) or org, and see. They are naturally friendlier than labs!!!!!!
Watch Animal Planet's "Animal Precinct". You'll get a REAL taste of what these poor dogs are put through. Some of the officer's comments shows just who is at fault.
People think my boxers are pitbulls, we have a ban on non registered pits in my area, I have never had a problem with being attacked, bit or anything ever by a pit. I have been bit by poodles, rabbits and mice and they aren't banned! Pit's have a bad name for no reason, people abuse them and train them to act violent, people are the problem. Perhaps people should be registered to own such lovely animals, maybe we should have to under go a "good citizenship" test like pitbulls do now? I think that is a better idea.
WE HAVE A PITBULL MIX AND HE IS THE BEST FAMILY DOG. HE IS GREAT WITH OUR TWO YOUNG BOYS, EVEN THOUGH WE HAD HIM BEFORE THE CHILDREN. HE NEVER GOT JEALOUS AND IS VERY AFFECIONATE WITH ALL OF US.
It never ceases to amaze me, how many people grab their children and cross the street to avoid my pit bull! When I tell them she would kiss them before she would ever bite, they look at me like I'm crazy. It is unfortunate what society has done to these dogs. What was once considered a family animal is now feared. If more people knew the real history of this breed and how they a suffered because of humanity they would rethink their stand! In the right hands, with a knowledgable owner they are a wonderful addition to a family! Their is no other breed that has gone through what these dogs have gone through! I walk the shelters 3 times a week and see what mankide is capable of! The shelters are full of pits and pit mixes that have been starved, fought, beaten, and burned with chemicals, and they still crave human love and affection! I am no bleeding heart, I know that for some of these animals there is no coming back from the mental damage done by humanity, and unfortunately the only humane thing to do is to end their suffering. But far to many good dogs are put to death daily only because of the breed listed on their kennel card. And that my friends is the worst case of racism still alive and thriving here in the good ole USA.
I can't say it enough. Pit Bulls are one of the finest breeds on the planet. I have raised them from a six week old pup, and adopted an abused animal. They were both loyal, loving, highly intellegent, sweet, very trainable dogs. I would rather have this breed than ANY other, and I must say I like them more than most nasty people. On the other hand, an improperly trained chihuahua scares the hell out of me! Oh and the people fighting these dogs, need to be put in a pit with other people who fight these wonderful creatures and fight each other to the death. They would not be missed! It is mankind who is the real animal!
Having temperament tested puppies at 49 days old for 20 years, it is my opinion that very few dogs are born with vicious &/or over-aggressive tendencies. Behaviour is formed by the dog's daily environment and training.Responsibleowner s evaluate a puppy's temperament and train according to what they have to work with. If it is present, most aggression can be controlled and, by careful training, directed into non-harmful activities. However, this must be done from the start. Once a dog becomes aggressive, especially when not provoked, and wins on a regular basis, it is a dangerous animal. This applies to ALL breeds. The laws should deal with the PEOPLE who are legally responsible for the dog in question and, YES, the penalties applied must be strict & commensurate with any injuries that were caused.
Mean dogs are not born, Mean people MAKE mean dogs. Pitbulls are terrific family dogs. I would trust a pit with a small child before I would put a small child inthe vicinity of a cocker spaniel
My friend in Latoniahas the nicest pitbull ever, its nicer than our pure breed border collie, with a good owner/training combination pit bulls are fine. -Ethan
I think the owners of all breeds need to be held responsible. Dogs are mishandled or bred poorly. Please report responsibly on any bred of dog, especially Pit Bulls and Rottweilers.
What can I say?!?! Pit Bulls are the greatest dogs in the world!!! I have grown up with pit bulls since I was a little girl and they are big babies. They have the best personality than any other dogs I have ever been around. They are extremely loyal and great family dogs. The problem is with the actual owners of these dogs. They are what we need to get rid of, not the dog!!!
There is enough myth and lies out there about these dogs. maybe if you portray them as they really are, people will stop thinking that they're "tough", and they'll fall into the hands of the wrong people less often.
If this happens maybe we can really put the finger on people who are abusing these dogs with more awareness and understanding about the situation people may be more likely to report abuse.
Having owned this breed for over 12 years, I say never mind the breed, take a look at who has hold of the lead.
All dogs have teeth, all dogs can bite.
I believe, as most here do, that all breeds have the capacity for violence, even say, a Maltese, if treated abominably! It all depends on the owners treatment of their animal. It is very unfair, my sister has a Rottie near her one year old all the time, my uncle has a german shepherd near his grandchildren. Like I said, it all falls in the owners hands.
The American Pit Bull Terrier is the most misunderstood breed of dog on earth today. Like all breeds you have good owners and bad owners. I really wish that some one would do a report on these dogs showing the truly great aspecs of the breed such as trainabilty.

These dogs get a bad rap because of the stupidity of the people who use them to fight. That's what's given them the bad name. Don't you wish, for one day, the dogs could be the owners?
I train in a working dog club based out of Alexandria, VA with a membership of 30+ and we have 15 - 20 Pitt Bulls working in tracking and obedience. These owners and dogs do not pose a threat to anyone with the proper training and outlet for their high drive. I think you should run your segment on responsible Pitt Bull owners/handlers! Or is that asking a bit much?
I am Rottweiler breeder, owner, handler, and trainer. I have also done a lot of rescue work and have dealt with pitbulls and have found them to be a wonderful breed of dog. Just as with my Rotties, they get a horrible reputation and stereotype. It is not fair for all of us responsible dog owners to see a good breed being dragged through the mud because of a few stupid people that mistreat their animals and make the headline news. In all my years with dogs, I believe my worst case to have been with a poodle!
Almost all misbehavior of dogs is due to treatment by owners. A dog that is beaten or chained up, is more likely to be a fear biter that one that is handled with love and care.
i own 3 apbt's. one thing that should be cleared up is animal agression and human agression. apbt's are great around kids. they stay around a 1 year old, 3 year old and 7 year old. only thing the kids complain about is how much they wag there tales.
having taught obedience for many many years I can honestly say that with proper training socialization love and attention you will have a happy well behaved member of the family. Dogs that are trained to fight are abused denied water food and shelter. Any breed would become aggressive under those conditions. It is those people who need to be found and tried and made to pay the penalty for what they have done to these dogs. And make no mistake it can be any breed. Even a person if treated that way would become mean and agressive. It is the fault of the owner and they should be severly penalized
It is not the animals fault, it is the people who own them who are to be blamed. No animal is born "mean". It is learned. I have never owned a Pit, but I have owned a number of dogs that are classified as "mean" and "it will turn on you". I have never had problems with that animal. Animals are taught from the being how to fight. It is NOT instinct.
The breed is not the problem, a select few ignorant owners are! Pit bulls are loyal, loving and so sweet. Unfortunately, they are being unfairly banned from cities based on a handful of bad situations. Please help these beautiful creatures be understood!
I do not know much about the breed, but I am a Boxer owner who has to deal with the "pitbull" prejudice a lot as my brindle boxer puppy gets mistaken for one. I just don't get it, I have met a couple pitbulls in the past and they were very sweet and friendly. I always say there is no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner.
There's always two sides to every story. It's time for the American Pit Bull Terrier to have it's turn! I have found this breed to be loving, compassionate and loyal, almost to a fault...They would do anything (good or bad) for the one they love. This kind of loyalty is very rare, and deserves to be rewarded and promoted in a positive way. In responsible ownership, the American Pit Bull Terrier is truly a Great dog for anyone!
I owned a Pitbull for 8 years. She was my heart. She died 2 years ago yesterday of cancer and I was so devistated that I sought out an animal shelter that dealt with Pitbulls to volunteer for. Now I have been with Furry Friends Foundation for 2 years and have discovered that my baby Mouna was in fact, not the exception, she was the rule. Of the dogs at the shelter, many of whom were neglected or abused before arriving at FFF, the majority are Pits or Pitmixes. They are wonderful sweet loving silly dogs, and I will never own another non-Pit or Pit mix in my life. I am completely sold on the breed and want people to know how wrong the info they get about Pits really is.
Let people know that you have a Pitbull, so they see what the dogs are really like. Don't continue to perpetuate this misconception about these amazing dogs.
Pit bulls are some of the smartest, friendliest and most stable dogs. They've gotten a terrible wrap from the media. I would sure appreciate a "fair and balanced" story on these wonderful dogs.
As an owner of a Certified Therapy Dog who happens to be a Pit bull, I would appreciate it greatly if Fox did a story on the "other" light of Pit bulls.
Please aim your attack where it belongs. It is the people that train the bully breeds badly and make the dog mean. Most pits are wonderful family dogs!
