I just recently bought a house and when I purchased home-owners insurance I was horrified that they said my policy would become void if I purchased a pitbull or doberman..how can someone do this?!
"Human Aggressive" dogs come in all breeds. They are this way because of neglect by their irresponsible owner. It is not the dogs fault but is due to the mistreatment and neglect by the owner of the dog. It doesn't matter what breed of dog it is. Any dog will be aggressive if trained that way or neglected and abused. I have met many pit bull terriers and all have been very sweet. I have even met one that was had been used in fights. Even this one was VERY human friendly. A properly bred and well cared for dog will be very human friendly. Punish the deed not the breed.
Dogs (any breed) are dangerous if the owners train them to be dangerous. Love them and treat, and train them right and they are the best, loyal, friendly, loveable, pet any family would have ever
Dobermen are also supposed to be an "aggressive" breed of canine. I have owned three dobermen and have never seen a sign of unwarrented agression from any of these dogs!! My dogs are all raised with love and none were taught to be "mean"--and they aren't!!
"Aggressive" animals are because their owners have trained them to be so. It certainly is not their fault (so they should not be punished) and is not something "all" of ANY breed is naturally.
I have been fortunate enough to participate on several short news segments here in Atlanta (CNN Headline news, 11 Alive News, and others) about the positive side of the Pit Bulls. Unfortunately these very short segments were aired immediately following news and footage about a "Pit Bull Attack". Although it is great to be able to show the real side of the breed, it is very hard to compete against reports of a “Pit attack” and images of a Pit Bull covered in human blood.
I would love to see the media do an in-depth report about the "real" American Pit Bull Terrier. This program or segment should be broadcasted as positive propaganda, not just a segment following a negative strike against the breed. With as much national and actually worldwide attention that the breed has been getting in the media, I feel that it is the media’s responsibility to thoroughly cover this topic with a full and in-depth report or segment.
my 13 month old baby sleeps with my pit bull mix!they love each other, and they are BOTH my babys!
ban the bad people not the good and very loving dogs!!
You are in a position to help turn around the negative attitude that pitbulls and pitbull owners are getting. Please help educate the ones who need it!
As the owner of a pitbull, I hope that someone can and will do a segment on the REAL pitbull, not the media hype you see all the time. Our pitbull sleeps in our bed, with her head on the pillow and tucked up beside 2 labs, myself, my husband AND a cat... She's the most loyal dog I've had. Not to mention loving to everyone and anyone she meets, and she came from BAD owners before we rescued her.
I own 4 pitbulls, 3 of which stay in my house and they are the best dogs I have ever had. They are loyal, smart, damn good dogs and do not deserve the negetive attention that they receive every day. TLJones said it all when it was stated that "bad dogs usually mean bad parents" Amen. They are so beautiful and anyone who has ever had anything at all to do with pits know they are no different than any other dog. People are so ignorant to these wonderful animals. They ARE the most loving dogs you will ever have. I agree banning them is NOT the answer, proper training for the dogs as well as the parents is the way I have done it. I have trained several with a loving, caring, tender hand and they have all turned out to be wonderful children for their parents. Nor are they taught to abuse small children, I train my pits with kids around, if the family has children, so that there is NO problem. Once again proper training for the family as well as the pit. All I have to say is leave them alone or find a good trainer, cause I am NOT about to give up my pit for anyone. I am sure all of you agree that removing your animal would be like having your child removed. It would devastate me and my 2 kids.
Softest mouth I have ever felt on a dog was that of a pitbull. Trudy was a gentle soul, smart as can be, loving to a fault & full of personality plus! As usual, people's ignorance is astounding!
banning pitbulls isn't the answer - education for people to eradicate fear and instil respect, is. all dogs can be trained to be obedient and non aggressive. Banning is just enforcing cruelty and encouraging the flourishing of underground dogfights.
I have three pittbulls and they don't even know what kind of dog they are. thats' just how loving they are. they see someone they don't bark at people, they just wag there tail for someone to love on them
I have't met or petted a pit bull that was aggresive. Just tonight I saw an elderly couple walking their pit bull (staffordshire bull terrier) down the street. I'm all for more public education related to responsible dog ownership and dog breeds to help people make wise choices. I agree with the statement that a dog is like a gun. In the hands of the wrong individual it can be lethal. When children ask me if my German shepherd bites, I say, "Yes, any dog will bite under the right conditions." I'm all for punishing the owner, not the dog. ANYONE who makes a dog mean or uses it for attack other than legitimate police work ought to be severely prosecuted. I am passionate about using animals as an expression of one's toughness or some sick form of violent entertainment. People need to understand the breed of dog and its characteristics to select the best dog for companionship, and so I fully support this petition for more public education.
Bully breeds are one (if the the #1) loyal breed of dog you could ever own. People only know what they see on the news, so isn't it time to really research the breed and tell people the real truth about the way the breed is when raised properly. On atts.org pit bulls have outranked a number of "safer" breeds.
As an owner of several dogs of "dangerous" breeds, I know it is the owner's handling that creates a dangerous situation. These loyal animals need media coverage that points out who are the real culprits in "bad dog-ism".
Judge (conformation ) for the AMERICAN DOG BREEDERS ASSOCIATION,Involved with the breed for oveer 30yrs showing and breeding.Dogs I bred became one of the first used for the hearing impaired
for the state of FLA
also one that became

that was on local stations as their logo dog.
and a compaion dog all rolled into one that was taken to schools and nurseing
homes in Blacksberg V.A.How ever this breed of dog has been the most missunderstood dog of modern times yet this breed can accomplish anything other breeds can and are more reliabe
it boils down to this fact that irrespnsible ownershiip and breeding have like other breeds brought this breed to the forfront of headlines

education is the key
for people that only
see what makes news
which makes headline
and more media hype.
If people could view
these dogs the way
they really are one
might agree its not the breed at fault.
Like so many breeds not all are perfect there will be always
those that have gone
bad.Poor breeding habits contribute to the breeds miss under standing. One rotten apple can cause everyother to look bad. This breed is loyal, affectionate beyoond extreme.Yet any breed fallen into the wrong hands and trained to attack is the same as owning firearms. If the trigger is not pulled or used for illegal purposes it cannot do harm,This is the case with these dogs put in capable hands these dogs have a wonderfu
ll reputation as all others. If people could read the history behind the breed one would come to understand just how complexed this breed is in reality. One thing for sure when one indivedual of this breed makes news it becomes front page or on the news of the day.And its not just the Pit Bull that has taken the brunt of those that only read the headline and know nothing about the breed in general.People need to understand that as in human beings that all our not perfect and neither is the canine world. But 99
Pitbulls should NOT be feared. These are great family dogs. The only aggressive pits are trained by callous people to be that way.I would love to see if only once a story aired by the Media(who has ruined their image in the first place)in a POSITIVE manner. Its time to shed light to the public about how great this breed is instead of headlines saying "Another pit has attacked an innocent child"!Why not do storys on the number one child biters which are cocker spaniels. When most people are asked--what do you think of when you hear the word PITBULL?--your usual response will be a mean, aggressive, attacking dog! This is not true! Please help the public ease their unwarrented fears of this breed. Its people who make them that way. Please run this story!!!!!
I work as a vet tech, and I see the most loving pits come into our office. Then again I see people with heavy chains & making these dogs mean, because they think it's cool. I would never own one, but I think with the right person these can make a wonderful pet.
The behavior of pitbulls is a direct consequence of how the owner has trained the dog. The behaviors are not innate, rather they are tought by irresponsible people. The owners should have to pay the price, not the dogs.
Pit Bulls can be the most wonderful of pets until they are taught to be mean. I believe the people who teach the pit bulls this should be punished not the pit bulls!!!!
I know many pitbull's who are far more loving and gentle than some poodles who will go after someone the minute you look at them the wrong way. Punish the people NOT the PITS!!!
Pitbulls are very loyal and people loving dogs. The breed should not be ban for the igorance of the owners that make them that way. I myself own Pitbulls and have 5 kids and wouldn't have any other kind of dogs.I am a vet tech and have had poodles be aggressive and other small dogs also be that way. But have never had a Pitbull come in and be aggressive. So as so many people are saying PUNISH THE DEED, NOT THE BREED! This breed is owed an great apology for the Bad Rap they they get. Thats like kids you have bad and good kids, but you don't ban the children!!!!
This would be a segment long over due. Its time to show everyone that pitbulls are not mean and hateful dogs. As the owner of a great pitbull and the 2 great ones before him, I can say there is not other dog in this world I would rather own. Their loyalty, affection, strong nature make them a breed that should held with great respect and NOT fear. Its people how make them mean it is certainly not their nature. EDUCATE, EDUCATE, EDUCATE. For these great dogs, its owed to them more than anyone can say.
Punish the deed, not the breed! As a Pit Bull owner and a animal professionl I can tell you that to many other breeds are overlooked, and Pit Bulls are made an easy target. It's only newsworthy when an irresponsible pet owners Pit Bull attacks someone, but not when someone's Poodle bites a kid. How about people report on the good about this breed as well. How about you make tougher laws to own a Pit Bull to ensure they get decent loving owners who want good pets and love this breed for their loyalty, and gentle loving nature.
This breed is wrongly discriminated
against because of lack of Public Knowledge.
It would be a big step forward to get a program on the air that would dispel some of the myths.
Ban irresponsible owners and criminals from owning these dogs, these are great dogs. We need fair and balanced reporting on pit bulls not media hype and fear feeding.
Yes people need to be aware that these loyal dogs are not all bad. It is all in the way they are raised and loved. Do they right thing and don't make another endangered species.
I love this breed. All the pits that I have every owned have been great. I can't imagine why people believe all this crap about this breed without knowing the TRUE facts. They are so loyal and loving and all they want is to please their owners.
I have one pitbull now and in the process of getting another. I have never had a breed of dog that is just an all around great breed as the pitbull is. I will nevery own another breed.
My pitbull is one of the most friendly dogs I've ever met, she gets along wonderfully with everyone, from babies to adults! Judge the deed not the breed!
I am tired of all the crap that is constantly being said about pitbulls. I own 2 pitbulls and have never had one problem with either. They're great with everyone, especially kids. I am tired of everything that has been said about this breed. Everyone goes on what they hear in the media and not on their own personal experience. It has gotten out of hand, it just plain annoying now. I have owned every type of popular breed, from beagles to german shepards, from malamutes to labradors and I will never own any other breed now that I have come to love a pitbull. They are the most loyal, loving and trustworthy dog I have ever encountered.
My mommy bought me a pit bull before I was born and her name is Deja and she is the best pit bull ever! I am almost four months old and Deja is a year old.
All the pitbulls I have met have been extremely affectionate and loving dogs. My pitbull, chief was the most obediant and intellegent dog i have ever seen.
I had the most wonderful pittbull and because of all the hype about pittbulls my landlord made us find him a new home. He was an absolute angel and so sweet. He was my baby and I miss him with all my heart.
We need to worry ab out the "wrong" people that are owning and ruining this beautiful breed. People can be so ignorant, lets stop the abuse now so that the people that love and devote their lives to this breed can continue to do so without all the negativity.
