As someone involved in animal rescue I have personally fostered many different breeds and mixed breeds in my home. I have found the pit bull terrier to be exceptionally intelligent, loyal and affectionate so much so that I adopted one myself. She is a beautiful, happy girl with a winning disposition and loves everyone and everything. Do not judge the breed because of the actions of ignorant and irresponsible people.
Pit bulls are the most loving breed of dog I know. I have 2 at home, they love everyone they meet, the neighborhood kids love them, and my dogs love them. It's not the DOGS we need to punish, how is it their fault they end up with bad owners who beat and starve and fight them? Please promote responsible dog ownership, and BLAME THE DEED, NOT THE BREED!
I am very much scared and sadden by the rabid hatred of a misled public toward pit bulls. I read stories out of Ontario now where terrible things are being done to dogs and their owners in the name of the pit bull ban- dogs and owners are being BEATEN for crying out loud, and half the time the dogs aren't even pit bulls. We need to educate the public as to what a pit bull is and is not. It sure is not the horrific monster that so much of the media portrays it to be.
its the owners that should be looked into with this breed because they are the ones that turn the poor animal into the "menace" that the media has tagged them with!!!!
First, I would like to say 'ditto' to Dr. Nixon's comment. I raised Dobies for about 30 years and listened to all the meaningless BS about this beautiful, intelligent breed and the almost inevidable question, "but don't they turn on their masters?"
Hawk, my last georgous guy, and I lived in an area of Texas known as the last strong hold of the Ku Klux Klan and probably one of the largest dogfighting communities in the state. I can't tell you how many years from my life I lost when Hawk, in our "fences prohibited" community would decide to go visit neighbors...he was quite gregarious, particularly if there was a backyard party going on. I made the rounds of these sorry miscreants, knowing that if they ever got their hands on my dog....well, I'd be writing this from the joint. Furthermore, I was about 20 miles from one of the largest 'live animal research facilities'. Sorry. Back to the Pits. It is racism. It is discrimination to say that one segment of a species is unacceptable, should be restrained or, better yet, exterminated. I just rescued a young female pit/boxer mix who some degenerate had dumped and altho' I have 3 dogs, I couldn't possibly try to find her another home...because what kind of SOB would this sweetheart end up with and the animal "shelter" is a joke because they immediately euthanize all pit mix breeds.....Oh my God, what an awful, sickening situation we are in. Let's keep up the fight!
Pitbulls are wonderfull dogs. They are very sweet and kind and not dangerous!!! People that say the opposite are stupid because they insist on telling bad things about something they don't have a clue in what they are talking about. They do NOT born mean! And if there is a mean pitbull is because its owners have been harsh with him and made him mean! Pitbulls aren't mean, people are!
Pitbulls are a very gwentle and protecting breed. The 4% of irresponsible owners give this breed it's "bad rap". Each Pit should be judge for it's own merits and irresponsible owners should be tried and prosecuted for what they do to these dogs and others.
AMERICAN PITT BULL TERRIERS ARE THE GREATEST DOGS ON EARTH. AND ALL YOU SO CALLED
"EXPERTS" NEED TO BACK OFF AND LET PEOPLE CHOOSE WHICHEVER PETS THEY WANT TO OWN.
I own a 2 1/2 yr old American Staffordshire Terrier (Pitt Bull). She is the biggest lap baby she would kiss someone to death before she would hurt you. She has been around young children 2-18 yrs and she has never been aggressive, growled or bitten anyone. Blame the Owners NOT the Breed!!!!!!
I own 2 pits and have a 3yr old, she hangs on them, drags them around and even pulls their ears & tails. They love her so much. They are like 3 children playing in the house. Why is it the Pit, Dobbie, Rott and Chows are the only ones that make the news. What about the poodle or the dachshund that pulled a baby from his playpen by his head. This stories are not told. It is not the breed it is the owner. Those who fight them need to be shot. You give love and respect to them and they give it right back twice as much. Ban the owners not the dogs.
I don't own pitbulls but I am an advocate for intelligent legislation against dangerous dogs, but not a blind attempt to blame individual breeds for bad owners. Well bred dogs, correctly raised and trained are our best companions. Any breed of dog owned by PEOPLE who CHOOSE to create a dangerous dog is the problem. The problem is rarely the dog.
I have never met a "bad" Pit. They have all been lovable big pussy cats. Look at the owners, and the treatment of these dogs that have bitten, before you ban a well loved breed. Listen to those that know the breed, not those that only know the Pits that get to the news... Most of these people wouldn't know the Pit that came up for pets.. from a Boxer, or Bull dog..
I AM THE OWNER OF TWO PITBULLS THAT WERE TAKEN INTO CUSTODY BY THE YAMHILL COUNT DOG CONTROL AND CITED FOR HAVING "DANGEROUS DOGS" MY DOGS WEE IN A FENCE FIGHT WITH THE NEIGHBOR DOG THAT HAD , SINCE MY DOGS WERE PUPPIES, ATTACKED AT THEM WHEN THEY SNIFFED THE FENCE LINE AND AT US FOR 7 YEARS. WE DID NOT PUT ANY MENACING CHARGES AGAINST THIS NEIGHBOR DOG. THAT WAS OUR DOWN FALL. WE WENT TO TRIAL AND LOST. THE POUND HAD RATS THAT RAN LOOSE AND A RAT RAN INTO MY MALE DOGS (WOODY) CAGE. THE INMATE WENT TO FETCH THE RAT. A LOOSE POUND CAT WENT INTO WOODY'S PEN UNKNOWN TO THE INMATE HELP AND BEFORE HE KNEW IT, WOODY HAD THE CAT. THE CAT WAS INJURED, THE PPUND CHOOSE TO EUTHANISE IT. OUR LAWS SAY WITHOPUT PROVOCATION. THAT CAT WENT INTO MY DOGS CAGE!. IT WAS HIS 'HOUSE' FOR ALMOST 2 MONTHS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. THE RAT NEST HOLE WAS THREE FEET INFRONT OF HIS CAGE. BOTH DOGS WATCHED CATS CHASING RATS FOR 8 1/2 MONTHS WHILE INCARCERATED IN THE CAT ROOM. YES, THE POUND PUT THEM IN THE ROOM THAT THEY HOUSE THE CATS IN, LET ALONE HAVE LOOSE CATS CHASING THE RATS THAT INFEST THE PLACE. THE STORY GOES ON. I WOULD LIKE TO GET NATIONAL ATTENTION. ONE OF MY DOGS (LITTLE GIRL) WAS ABLE TO COME HOME AS A "DANGEROUS DOG". I AM STILL FIGHTING FOR THE LIFE OF WOODY. HE HAS BEEN IN THE POUND SINCE OCTOBER 30, 2003. LITTLE GIRL GOT OUT NOVEMBER 5, 2004. THEY NEVER WERE ABLE TO GO OUTSIDE IN THAT YEAR. AND WOODY IS STILL IN CONFINEMENT. NEVER HAVING BEEN EXERCISED. AND AGAIN CONFINED IN THE CAT ROOM! THE STORY IS ONLY HALF TOLD HERE.
I have a Pit and several other dogs. My Pit, Madeline, is "mother" to them all. I vote for a petition that would allow us to shoot on sight those who abuse and fght these great dogs.
As i've grown up i was always cautous of pits but the more i learned and interacted with Pit bulls They're just like any other dog They remind me or a Lab just with out the fur There so Hyper and enterjetic like Labs... My Friend Has 2 pits with there 3 yr old and 2 yr old. the at the dog rescue i volenteer at we get tons of them MAMA MIA'S my Favorite Shes an awsome PIT. I wish That Pits didn't get such a bad rap cause its not there faults...
As a dog trainer I've worked with many pit bulls and found that when they are with responsible owners they are every bit as wonderful as any other breed.
I am the proud owner of 4 APBT. I have two kids and they are great with my kids. I would not own other breed of dog. Resposibility for the breed lies in the owners hands.
I have 2 wonderful PIT BULL'S and they wonderful dogs. recently I left my back gate opened by mistake and the two got out for a 5 hour adventure, a dear elderly lady found them and called the local shelter (that I had contacted upon there escape) I went to this womans house and this is what she had to say " these are wonderful dogs what kinda are they LABS?" I told the woman " no mam they are PIT BULL"S" she then replied "they are so very friendly, you have made me take another outlook on the breed.I always thought they were mean like the press and other's say." now my dogs did not know this lady AT ALL and if she thought they were LAB'S that should say something about this "MEAN" BREED OF DOG'S ...
Not so long ago America was looked upon as the pitbull of the world. Made famous by war posters from the WWI and WWII era. So many people know so little about this wonderful breed of dog. Even the AKC is against BSL. They would be a great source as to why it does not work.
As the owner of a Bullmastiff, it never ceases to amaze me that people truly have NO IDEA what a real "pit bull" is. I am VERY frequently asked if my bullmastiff is a "PIT" or have someone comment that he is an awesome "HUGE PIT." People are talking about banning the vicious pit bulls... But do they even know what a real pit bull is? Personally, I think not... Because honestly, if they did, they would understand that there is NOTHING inherently "vicious" about pits or any other breed of dogs. There are NO bad dogs, just BAD owners!
C'mon Fox News. How about a fair and balanced piece on America's breed, the "dreaded" pit bull terrier? Sure there are irresponsible and criminal owners of the breed and that's where most networks stop, including Animal Planet. Rise to the challenge and search out those nice people with nice dogs doing nice jobs. Pit bulls can be found working at protection, military and police, herding, SAR, utility and service work as well as nannies for little girls and buddies for little boys. This is an honest, honorable and noble breed. I'm unanimous on that.
Best Friends Animal Sanctuary just did a nice story piece story on the history of Pitbulls being America's mascot during the world wars, time to give these dogs back their status; not convict them with records. Convict the bad owners of animals.
This is BULL, there is no such thing as a bad dog;only bad dog owners. This breed of dog is good, they will protect you, love you, and care for you if you treat them the way the need to be.I own 1 pitbull and I agree with all of the posts that i have read so far....its time that this breed of dog gets rid of its horrible reputation...
I have an American Staffordshire Terrier that was rescued from owners who were trying to make her a fighter. She was wounded & we nursed her back to health. She is most loyal, loving and spoiled. She will not permit any fighting or any acts of aggression in the home or outside. She wont even allow our adopted 1/2 pitbull pups wrestle too hard. She is the peacemaker of the family. She will bark incessantly until peace is restored. She has taken posession of the neighbors' property as her own to watch over and bark about. All the neighborhood kids know her by name & love her. My Old German Shepard "Q" (rest in peace) was more vicious than my Staffordshire. In a way I'm glad they have somewhat of a reputation hoping it will keep the burgulars out. However, the reality is that she will always try to make friends with whomever comes in. She craves love and attention and insists on being up under me or whomever she can be with whenever We're sitting or laying down. There are so many other dogs that are much more vicious.. such as Akitas but I see no bans on them. Honestly, up until we adpoted the pups her tolerance for any other dog was zero due to her PREVIOUS OWNERS. She had learned how to socialize & live with them peacefully in a month. People need to remember that all breeds of dogs react to fear. If you're afraid & you run.. they will chase. If you're hostile to them they will become hostile as well. Lets see em ban all dogs that act like dogs instinctively do.
Ok I have 8 APBTs and not once has one turned on me or my family. My male is a sertified SAR dog and travels all around the world and he has shown NO aggressiveness toward anyone!!..owners make the dog mean or sweet..
Some of the sweetest, loyal, dogs I have ever had the pleasure of knowing have been pit bulls. Please tell both sides of the story before it is too late...
I own two Pit Bulls that are both rescues. They are wonderful with my children and everyone they meet. These dogs in no way deserve the reputation they have been given by irresponsible owners.
We rescued our girl from a potentially bad situation, she was being abused, i never looked at her as a pitbull, just a dog,who needed some love and within a month she showed us that she was worth every kiss and hug.She is now a 60 pound lap dog.
i am fortunate enough to live with two beautiful american staffordshire terriers and will not stop fighting until the proposed ban on pit bulls in ontario is obolished.
I work in an all breed rescue, and i can honestly say that i love working with the pit-bull breeds, they are affectionate and loveable, of all the research that iv'e done, the only thing worse than the untruth being told about pitbulls, is the media's responsability of perpetuating these lies
I run a Pit Bull specific rescue/rehabilitation, as well as am owned by THREE beautiful, well mannered, and fabulous examples of the "Pit Bull". Doing Pit Bull rescue, training Pit Bulls, and showing Pit Bulls in conformation, I have YET to encounter a human aggressive Pit Bull- despite having many Pits come to me from horrible situations after being beaten, starved, dragged behind cars, lit on fire, etc.- they STILL forgive and love people. Doing research on Pit Bull attacks, I've found many of the dogs were provoked, and MANY of the dogs claimed to be Pit Bulls were in fact NOT Pit Bulls. Pit Bulls rank the fourth highest score in the ATTS temperament testing statistics....just a few good points about the breed, to say the least, would be their loyalty, affection for people, and unsurpassable forgiving souls. I'll never live life unless I am owned by Pit Bulls- Promote Responsible Ownership....NOT Breed Prejudice.
We need to start making the owners who make these and other breeds the outlaws that the general public precive them as. It is the people who should pay for the irresponsible and inhuman treatment the bestow on our beloved animals. We can no longer stand by and let the uniformed public dictate to us that an entire breed of dog should be destroyed. That is genicide by any other terms.
I have owned 4 Pit Bulls in the last 23 years, and keep hoping that someday the real story can come out!! Let's hope that Fox will tell the TRUE story.
" Wouldn't the world be shocked."
Mine thinks he's a little boy, has no idea he's really a dog...Has his own bedroon, TV, and playstation for his human friends, and I bought him a SUV to ride in. Treated just like a child and acts better than most children. Best breed there is and everyone who meets ours agrees.......
To Know Them Is To Love Them
I have had many breeds of dogs and none compare to a pitbull. My pit is my baby and is nothing but a 68lb lap dog. I would give my life for that dog and I know she would do the same! I want to do what ever I can to help people realize that these dogs are wonderful loving animals. We should be more concerned with the irresponsible owners not the innocent dog!
In actuality, Pit Bulls rank very high with the American Temperament Test Society. The current APBT passing rate is 83.9%, and the AST is 83.2%- the same score as the Golden Retriever.

We (my wife and I) currently take care of a wonderful Brindle Staffordshire Terrier www.snix.biz. She is a reacue. In the last 5 years we have rescued over 25 dogs and not found any other dog as good with people and childran as this pure breed.
i own 5 a.p.b.t. and i have 4 kids and my dogs are very loyal to my family.bad parents make bad kids and bad dog owners make bad dogs.so do a little more invetigating before the dogs half to pay for somehting that humans have done to the dogs thanks and please don't make the dogs pay!!!!!!!!!
I have previously owned doberman, Aust silk terrier as well as crossed dogs. I found Pit bull to the most human friendly of all. Pit bulls are infact crave for human affections. My pit bull is the most friendly dog I had.
