I have been involved with this breed for some time now and i have never had a problem with this breed. A lot of the dogs in question are from irresponsible breedings with no health or temperament testing done on the parents. Punishing the dogs is not the way to do it. Would you ban all children from a certain state because there are a few parents who irresponsibly raised there kids?? The public deserves to know the facts about the breed, and not just the portrayed image displayed by the media.
The media is responsible for fair, balanced, and unbias reporting-the "golden rule" of journalism! The need is for education about this animal-not to report opinion.
why is it always headlined in the news media when a pitbull bites or mauls someone...yet when it is another breed...the headlines just read 'child bitten by dog'...? Make these owners responsible for the actions of the dog...usually the owner will not socialize , take to obedience etc...This gives us owners of this fantastic bred a very bad name ,plus puts our pets into the same "BAD"line of fire. I own three very well -behaved pits and this is the only breed I will ever have. Not only are they intelligent, funny wiggle-butts, but the most affectionate dogs one could ever have! Let's please stick together & educate the ignorant out there to judge each dog by it's own merits. Thank you
it's high time we start punishing and condemning those who should be held responsible for their actions, the PEOPLE, not the animals. It is important that this be recognized. I own a female pitbull (rescued from a situation in which she was being used as a "bait dog" in a pit bull fighting ring) and 3 rottweilers. I am so sick and tired of the complete ignorance when it comes to owning and raising these dogs. They fall into the wrong hands, do harm and the breed as a whole and the people who love them pay a dear price for it. why not start cracking down on the idiots that own them for all of the wrong reasons, abuse them, and wind up giving the breed a bad rep. In addition, breeders should be more careful and conscientious about who they sell their pups to. We should learn a lesson from the way they do things in Europe, Germany in particular where breeding laws and regualtions are very strict as are dog ownership laws and regulations. Note that other countries do not have the problems that we do when it comes to the working breeds and "dangerous" dogs. We'll never solve this problem by screaming "dangerous dog".....we need to do something about the PEOPLE, who are the true source of the problem.
Leave it to our government to implement a law that is not based on facts nor does it solve the problem, only creates them. Lets ban stupidity and institute humaneness.
Throuhgout my life we have owned many pit bulls, and would choose no other. It is all about how you raise and treat them, as with any dog, or animal for that matter......
i have 4 pits and they are the most loving animals i have ever owned. Remember bad parents only gives you bad doggies...I firmly believe in that because my brother has a pit that he raised to fight and treated him very badly. He is a loving dog but knows nothing of love because he was never given much of it. When my brother would leave for work I would sneak him from his cage and love him as much as I could until I had to put back into that horrible hell hole. He got love but not what he should have gotten. My pits are treated just like my kids and loved just as much as my 2 children are loved. They are a very big part of our families lives and it would be a terrible loss if or when we ever lose one of our babies. My WHOLE family feels this way and I know many many people in our community that feel the same way. I only wish they ALL had computers cause I gaurantee they would all sign this wonderful petition.
I think that are many breeds that are misunderstood but the pit bulls are for sure and its so sad. It make me so furious and sad when I hear a story of a pit bull attacking a child and the dog gets put down but no punishes the owner for putting on a chain and never showing the dog attention and no one ever punishes the parents either children should never be left alone long enough to get in the path of danger!! But the dog who did not ask for the position he was put in gets all the blame while the ignorant humans go free!!
While I am not a pitbull companion (the word owner sucks), I am a vet tech. I am the companion of a wonderful 7 year old Rottie and a member of PETA. Don't blame the breed. The owners should be held accountable for any dog that seems too aggressive. It's all the training. A few of my friends have pitbulls and they are all well mannered. Banning a breed is ridiculous.
I recently adopted a 2 year old male pit bull. Never had one before but I can say I'll never own another breed but the Pit Bull. My dog loves everyone that comes into our home. The media just loves to jump on the negative; it makes for better ratings.
These dogs need our help. Do we punish the victims of child abuse? Why would we punish these innocent dogs who are victims of abuse at the hands of irresponsible, evil people. I own two amazing Staffordshire Bull Terriers, they are my angels and would never hurt anyone. It breaks my heart that these wonderful breeds may one day be extinct because of ignorant politicians and people who buy into the media hype and lies. Haven't we as humans come farther than this. This thinking is no better than racism.
Breed Bans punish the people who want to be responsible and do the right thing by their dogs. Pit Bulls are the victims of enormous amounts of abuse, and villified in the media. I have 2 myself, and my girls are friendly and trained. This breed is so very emotionally attached to their owners that tying them to a stake in the yard is literally torture. I support politicians and lawmakers that are willing to look beyond the hype to find a solution to the abuse in the name of "sport" that these dogs and others go through. Think about it: Do you honestly think the irresponsible and inhumane animal owners out there will stop getting dogs because of a law? No, they will just switch to an easier to get breed. Next we will hear of Cane Corso, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Mastiff, Bulldog, all being banned because some idiot drug dealer thinks they look "tough" and doesn't want to invest the time and money to train and keep the dog healthy.
Not a PB or any other sort of bully breed owner. However. to ban a breed because of irresponsible dog ownership is treating the symptom, not the cause. I would love to see tougher laws put into place to punish the degenerates who abuse these dogs whether by ignorance of intention. Breed banning hurts the responsible folks and yet allows the dirtbags responsible for BSL to go scot free. Utilize responsible dog owners to put teeth into legislation and let's get rid of these idiots who give a bad name to not only these dogs, but all dogs.
I have owned APBT since and can honestly say that I have not owned a smarter more trustworthy animal in my life. I currently own two APBTs and have 4 children and they all get along very well. My dogs are very socialized and get along with other adults as well as children also.
I have two apbt and soon to get more and I have never seen or heard of a better dog, unfortunatly they have a bad rap hopefully together we can change peoples view about them
Pitbulls are the no. 4 biter - from the bottom of the list. You are more likely to be bitten by a cocker spaniel or a lab than a pitbull. We must educate the public about this wonderful breed and take these dogs away from the people who would cause them harm.
I have a Pitbull (Jesse) and she is such a wonderful and loving puppy. She is scared of her own shadow and wouldn't give her up for the world. It amazes me to this day when people ask what breed she is after they have been playing with her for a few mintues, my response is she is a pitpull and they immediatly back off. Although I did have a woman actually say to me that after her encounter with my Jesse she had a change of heart towards pits.
I have a pitbull myself and she is not at all aggressive. All she wants to do is play and just be bt my side. Pitbulls are not born with aggression its the people who treat them to be aggressive.
My neighbor kept his pitbull on a chain in the backyard for the dogs entire life (4 years). Then he moved and left the dog. I was lucky enough to find a woman who rescues pitbulls and she saved him and found him a permanent home. I have also never seen a sweeter, friendlier, more grateful dog in my entire life. Even after a life on a chain and being neglected and emotionally abused he still loved!! His owner (who should be chained himself) even tried to teach him to fight, but the dog refused. This was my first experience with pits - but will not be my last. Public opinion will probably never be changed about this breed, by my opinion certainly has.
I have two pitbulls at home, and they're big puppies! They just want love like everyone else! Pitbulls are only mean if you make them that way!!! I've worked for HSI for two years now, and EVERY BREED has the capacity for aggression. It's all in socializing and raising your dog properly and responsibly!
My pickle (as my 4 year old calls him b/c he can't say Pit Bull) wouldn't hurt a fly! Not like the Golden Retriever that mauled a little boy in our area who had to go through over 20 surgeries to get a new face.
Someday people will realize that ANY dog can be made to be mean and not target certain breeds. I currently have 2 pitbulls and they couldn't be anymore loyal than they are. I have never seen any type of aggression in them at all. Hopefully someday everyone will become "Eduacate-a-Bull."
I rescued a pit bull 2 years ago and I am amazed at how lovable and intelligent he is. It's very unfortunate that they have been given such a bad name when the owners should be the ones carrying that burden. It breaks my heart to see so many of them needless die because of the misinformation about them in the public and the lack of law enforcement against those who abuse them. I hope that your network will help to give these beautiful dogs the good publicity that they have deserved for far too long.
Not all pit bulls are friendly. There are a few that are dangerous and it's
not only because of the way you raise them but their genetics too. Nature
and nurture. As a professional dog trainer I can say that my experience has
shown me that on a general basis pit bulls have been the most stable breed
with people that I have worked with. More than labs, goldens, cocker
spaniels, german shepherds, poodles, and all the other popular dog breeds.
Their insensitivity to pain makes them an ideal canditate for a family that
can easily make novice dog handling mistakes and not be held accountable.
They do need special handling because of potential dog aggression and so do
many other breeds. This is not exclusive to the pit bull. The pit bull is a
special dog with phenomenal ability. They are very gentle by nature and can
be rough players. The media has blown the pit bulls image way out of
proportion because danger heightens emotion and heighten emotion $ells.
I have two rescued American Pit Bull Terriers and they are the best dogs I have ever had. I am so sick of people looking at me like I am some kind of criminal when I tell them what kind of dogs I have. I am proud of my babies and it is time people knew the truth about them. The truth is that they are the victims of cruelty and abuse by ignorant humans and not the other way around. If legislators have their way and pit bulls are banned than they better get started on banning the next breed that comes along. Lets face it, people will find another animal to exploit and torture after there are no more pit bulls to kick around. I love my dogs because they are loyal, energetic and loving. If I wanted a Cocker Spaniel I would go get one, but I don’t want a Cocker Spaniel. I want a Pit Bull. A big wet kisses, wiggle butt clown with a big beautiful head!
There are good dogs and bad dogs. It's in the hands of the owner, hence there are good owners and bad owner. It's legislation against bad owners that is needed, not painting a breed as being bad or good based on media hype and blatantly incorrect statistics.
Being in rescue I would rather a pit then a poodle. They are terific dogs very loving. To see what creeps have done to some of them is horrible.I think we should do the same to their owners. It's how you raise any dog, give them love they give it back.
Pit bulls are lovable, sweet devoted dogs, no different than any other breed. Cruel owners who train them to be vicious need to be punished to the greatest extent.
Pits are the most loving family dog you can own. They are so loyal to their owners it is amazing. They thrive on attention and want to be treated as one of the family. They are not to be left outside tied to a tree and neglect. No dog for that matter should be treated that way. It's time that the responsible owners stood up and tried to save this wonderful and loving breed.
