Been around several pits and even did a transport on a "rescue pit." Only mean pits I have ever seen were on TV in abuse cases. Any animal can be taught to be mean. They get a bad rap!!
My pit bull is the biggest baby I've EVER seen. He's NEVER even growled at anyone. So all I have to say to the people who are afraid of pits is dont be, unless the owner has made it aggressive because thats the ONLY time they get mean. Its a learned behavior.
I adopted a male pit bull puppy about 8 months ago from a rescue group and he is the sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever been around. I was hesitant about the breed due to the media's great job of maligning it with sensational stories. My family and virtually all of my friends were dismayed that I would adopt such a dog as well. I have to honestly say, this has been the sweetest, most gentile dog I have ever owned. Not only is he great around children of every age group, he is incredibly sweet to every dog and cat he has been introduced to. I was so moved by the breed that I took in another beautiful female Pit stray and I am fostering her for adoption. I continue to introduce the dogs to as many people as possible to help spread the word that this is a wonderful breed to own. I can't say enough good things about them. Training and socialization are the keys to any successful breed ownership.
It's all about education and responsible pet ownership. It's not hard to find a book to read or search the web to learn about dogs on caring, training, raising, etc.
One of my good friend has the sweetest pit bull I have ever seen. She is playful but not aggressive at all and I think it's due to her being socialized at a yound age.
I myself have a Boxer and lot's of people say they are really mean too and trust me that is absolutely not true. She is so lovey and great with people and kids.
I HAVE 2 PITS MYSELF AND LET ME TELL YOU THEY ARE THE SWEETEST, BEST DOGS THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED AND I HAVE OWNED MANY DIFFERENT BREEDS. MY PITS ARE GREAT WITH CHILDREN& OTHER DOGS. IT IS HOW YOU RAISE THEM.
laws on animal cruelty need to be enforced. Owners need to be more responsible. We do not need to eradicate the pittbull we need to eradicate irresponsible breeders and owners
I have a rescue pitt/lab mix in my family and she is by far the smartest, most lovable dog I have ever known. She is our protector and a great companion to our yellow lab. She actually behaves better than the pure breed lab!
Since my Amstaffs are affected by the reputation of all bully breeds I would like to say, there is not a better dog to have. They are loyal, and loving. All dogs can be aggressive.
Banning a breed is so ignorant. The only ones that suffer for this kind of action are the "good" owners and breeders. Keep this kind of nonsense up and dogs will one day end up on the endangered species list! The troublemakers, those that breed and "train" for vicious, fighting, or guard dogs, are just going to move on to another breed. THEY are the ones that need to be stopped.
I think this breed is a wonderful breed of dog, and people need to realize that it's NOT the breed, it's all about their owner and how they are raised. I would LOVE to get a pit for a companion for our dog, but because of their horrible reputation, we are not allowed to get pits. I think that people are under-educated and ignrant when it comes to dogs, especially this breed. Any dog can be aggressive, it just depends on the owner and how they are raised. When I take our dog to the dog park, it's the little dogs that get snippy and get aggressvie towards her, not the pits. People just need to be educated on this subject!!!
The public needs to be informed and educated correctly about this fantastic breed. I have a rescued bullie that is the most loving one of 4 dogs (2 rotts and one aussie)! I would take 100 pit bulls over one Jack Russell (and I have previously owned a Jack Russell) In a dog bred book it actually showed the American and English Staffies - did you know that in England the book stated they consider and use this breed as nannies?! I can attest to this as I have a 3 yr old granddaughter. I hope that Fox News will do their research and promote that this breed is one of the best!
I rescued a pit bull stray and it was sweeter and gentler
than any other dog I
have met. Good,
loving training
is the key to making
a big, strong dog
safe with people
and other animals,
no matter whether
the dog is a pit
bull, lab, or any
other large breed.
I share my life with 2 rescued pits mixes and a poodle. When we go to the dog park, guess who gets in fights?--yep the poodle. Both Pits are the sweetest nicest dogs. The youngest we rescued this year. She was caught in a trap and was shot at with a bb gun. Amazingly she is very loving towards all dogs and humans.
I have owned pitbulls for years and am convinced they are THE best breed in the world. I am currently the proud owner of 2 beautiful females- Angelina and Jada - both adopted from Hot Water Rescue. These ladies have hearts of gold and even though both of them endured lives of severe abuse & neglect thanks to their evil past owners, they are huge love bugs! They just want to love and be loved. The media needs to focus on the evil owners and focus on all the positive traits that this breed offers. My 2 girls, live happily with my husband and I plus our male Rotti, our two small male & female Min Pins, and a rabbit! It is time the REAL TRUTH comes out about this wonderful breed!
The city should educate the population and write legislation to discourage improper treatment of pitbulls instead of punishing the entire breed. Could this be considered a type of biased lawmaking towards a specific socio-economic class?
I am fostering a rescued pit bull, found almost dead on the side of the road. In spite of what she went through, she is a loving, gentle, clown and she gets along with the other dogs in house. She is not in the least aggresive.
i have been fostering pit bulls for 3 years. i will not get on my soap box here because we are all on the page with how wonderful of a breed they are. but i will continue to help all the pitty that i can.
I have owned Pit Bulls all of my life. Now my family & I, (including our 4 year old son), are doing Pit Bull rescue. Out of all the dogs that have come & gone, I have YET to see a mean, or vicious one. We own a rescued Pit that was used as a bait dog. When she arrived she was in horrid condition, but despite everything she has gone through, she is the most loving dog you will ever lay eyes on. It's the drug dealers, punk kids, & dog fighters that are ruining our breed. Punish the ones responsible & leave our beloved pets out of it. It's time that everyone stopped listening to the media. Half the dogs accused, as being Pit Bulls, in dog attacks, are in fact, NOT Pit Bulls at all. Learn the truth & get to know the breed!
It is not the dog, it is the handler. So many dogs of all breeds are mishandled and end up with behavior porblems. If a breed is to be singled out, then let's place the blame where it belong the ignorant human. I have been doing all breed rescue for several years, with an emphasis on education and training. My best, and happiest adoptions have been the Pits. What happy stories of families being completed by a loving clown, or a faithful recovery companion to an ill lady.
Please give these loving creatures a chance...it is not the dog breed that has the problem, but their owners who don't understand how to properly train and work with these wonderful animals. Maybe muzzles should be put on the pit bull owners instead!
A dog is what its owner makes it. Pit Bulls are wonderful family dogs, devoted especially to children. It is unfortunate this breed has become a favorite among thugs and criminals, giving it the highly undeserved reputation it now has.
Education beats legislation. It's time to stop letting bad news make good headlines with this breed. The media needs to focus on the the irresponsible owners and the Backyard Breeders that are creating the problems.
To know a Pit Bull is to love a Pit Bull! I couldn't imagine my life without my girl, Grace (adopted from Hot Water Rescue). Grace lives happily with my husband and I, our two young boys, or male dog and two cats. She has so much love to give and is such a silly sweet heart. Please help others to understand that there are good and bad in all and for Pit Bull's the bad have been created by evil beings - humans... TELL THE TRUTH AND MAYBE THINGS WILL BEGIN TO CHANGE!!!
We have had pitbulls for about 4 years and we have never had a problem with them or anybody.I have 4 of them. They are the best dogs we have had.LONG LIVE THE PITTBULL
We adopted a female Brindle pit bull from the local Humane Society and she is the sweetest, affectionate dog I have ever been around. She is loving with our two children ages 8 and 6 and our two cats. She just wants someone to love her back.
I love the bully breeds, and I am heartily sick of the wrong info being circulated. Peopleask me if I'm scared to have mine in the house because of "those tendencies." I ask them if they're afraid of their dog, because mine is no different from theirs. My AST is 9 year sold, lives with 3 other dogs, 2 cats, and helps foster care puppies andkittens for the Humane Society in our area. She is a CGC, and has had extensive obedience training. She loves people. Yet she is steroetyped as viious because she has a sqaure head andstocky body. Someone needs to get the good sideofthe bullys on the news. It seems as though all they ever show is the bad side. Why do I never see a Lab that bit on the news? I'm in Animal Control, and I know it happens.
I have a Pit Bull that I rescued from an abandoned house. I allways owned aggresive bred dogs but they have trained to be that way when threatened or protecting, even playing
My wife and I started an animal rescue group over 4 years ago. We started out rescuing many different breeds of dogs, but over time, we have evolved into the largest "pit bull" rescue group in the St. Louis area. It's very gratifying, but we can't even come close to saving all of the deserving dogs. Hopefully, if your news teams throughout the country can show the generally good side of the bully-breeds, more rescue groups will start rescuing them.
I have a pitbull that sleeps with me every night, and the only time she barks is when someone trys to hurt me or my kids. She plays with them everynight
The education of the public is one of the most important things a news station could do.Pitbulls are not aggressive dogs in the right hands. Why be prejudiced? Do you single out races of people too? Why don't we hear about the little cutsie cocker spaniel that mauls the neighborhood children? Doesn't sell news huh! You need to make a "TRUE STORY" about pitbulls and stop the prejudices!!!!
