I have been working with these dogs and showing them for over ten years. They are the most loyal loving breed i have ever owned. Like any dog they need responsible owners who socalize and train properly. I have never been bitten by a pitbull, but i have been bitten by an x police dog and a cocker spaniel.
My three dogs that I have a great dogs and very loving and are shown at the UKC Dog Shows. We are very responsible owners and take care of them and are good with kids and friendly. The love to be hugged kissed and are very spoiled and are my three kids and treated the same way. For those people that are irresponsible are the ones that give our breed APBT/AM Staff the bad name.
The creatures that inhabit this earth-be they human beings or animals-are here to contribute, each in its own particular way, to the beauty and prosperity of the world ~ H.H. Dalai Lama
PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED!! This statement says more than you can ever imagine. Lets start putting forth all this effort into making solutions for the REAL PROBLEMS-THE PEOPLE!! and make people/owners responsible for their own actions!! Just like children, dogs raised by irresponsible people will create irresposible dogs!
As others have stated, it's not the breed we should ban, but the irresponsible owners that mistreat these wonderful pets. Pit Bulls are loyal, affectionate, gorgeous and intelligent. They deserve our protection. We MUST stop the abuse of this amazing breed. It's so easy to blame the animal, but the real problem is the abusive person that raises these animals to fight. I urge everyone to spend a little time with a Pit Bull and you will quickly see how awesome they really are.
Behaviour modification is the answer. Not for the dogs. The dogs are fine. It's the people who abuse these loving creatures that we need to control. I bet it would also help them quit shooting each other, beating their wives and overloading their bodies with illigal substances.
Pitt Bulls are wonderful pets as long as they are properly taken care of. They have been given such a bad name due to the Pitt Bulls that are bred to fight, yet vary few acctually attack humans, unless severly agrevated.
I have a pit bull and have been around many others. I have seen people come up to my dog while I'm walking her and say oh she's so cute and proceed to pet her while she happily lick's there hand. Then comes the question, what kind of dog is she? I swear when the word pit bull comes out of my mouth, they either say "you're kidding me, and cant believe it, or slowly pull there hand back (like my dog is going to suddenly attack and chew there arm off) and say does she bite. This is the mentality that we (as loving Pit Bull owners) have to deal with on a daily basis. My dog is the sweetest and most obedient pet that I have ever owned. We live across the street from a elementary school, every day the kids come by and want to see and pet my dog. A lot of the kids already know her by name and my dog loves to see and greet all the kids. ( my point) Why aren't these kids afraid of my dog? Well I'll tell you, kids do not care what kind of dog it is, It's just another dog to them. They do not have this Pit Bull mentality drilled into there head. They see how it really is and not see it by what someone is telling them to see. People are the ones who make this breed to be a monster. I think that people have to be educated on this breed and know that they are not born "people aggressive", they are made that way by there owners.
It's not pitbulls we need to worry about, it's the owners that teach pitbulls to be vicious. If you look at the owners of pitbulls that attack children or other people, Iam sure you will find a criminal past.
Any dog can be mean and any dog can be loving. It all depends on how they are raised and their owners. No type of dog should be labeled bad for a few bad eggs.
i love pit bulls. its all in the way they are raised. if you buy one to make it a mean watch dog it will be mean if you buy it to be a good companion it will be
Yes, I agree we need to educate people about pit bulls. Though I don't have one myself, I have friends that do and they have been great pets for the family and with kids!
FOX news really should report the positive sides of the American Pit Bull Terriers. I understand that negative issues tend to get peoples attention (and boast ratings), but come on lets be fair! For every negative report done about a Pit Bull there are hundreds of positive stories that never get any mention.
I was one who thought Pit Bulls were mean vicious dogs, that was until I did my research on them and found that was the farthest from the truth. I now own one of my own, she is 4 months old. I would have to say, she is the most loving dog I have ever owned. She wants nothing more than to be loved by everyone in the family. You can see in their eyes when they look at you the loyalty and love they have for you. When doing my research on Pit Bulls I learned alot about being a responsible dog owner in general. From experience I know that any dog can bite or be aggressive. It is the responsibility of the owner to make sure the dog is trained and socialized properly. It's very unfortuneate that these dogs end up with the wrong, or irresponsile owners and that is where they get their bad reputation. We as responsible pet owners do need to do something to stop this. The public needs to be educated on the real truth about American Staffordshire Terriers, and the American Bull Terrier. Man is the true vicious beast not the Pit Bull.
I have a 4 year old pit that I've had since he was 8 wks old. He is the most gentle, loving, funny, happy, well tempered, obedient dog I have ever seen. These dogs live to please their people and will do anything to do just that. That is why when you put them with bad owners, you have unfortunate circumstances. They are NOT aggressive by nature, they are pleasing by nature. It's these bad owners that need to take the fall for this...not these poor dogs. I would never own anything other than a pit. I Love them and feel they are sorely misjudged.
Irresponsible owners are the ultimate reason for pitbull attacks. Responsible owners ALWAYS have their dogs under their control and don't create situations in which a pit bull attack can occur. There are many positive pitbull stories that deserve to be told. I think it needs to go a step further by documenting the abuse that many pitbulls suffer at the hands of some horrible people, therefore, showcasing the real problem that needs to be addressed.
I'm glad that finally people look at how bad pitbulls are treated, and that they aren't agressive by nature, it's how they are raised and who their owners are.
I too agree, as an owner of two APBT's I will honestly say that this breed his hands down the best dog i've ever had around my two children. No bad dogs just unresponsible breeders and bad owners
I think that this would be a great idea! Hopefully the reporter would do our dogs justice however, rather than how the media likes to turn everything around just for ratings.
We need laws for ALL dangerous dogs, not just a specific breed. If you ban one breed, the thugs, drug dealers and gang members will just pick a bigger, stronger dog to abuse. Pls let people know that Pitbulls are one of the best breeds........its the owners that should be banned
The pit bull "problem" is really one of dangerous owners, not dangerous dogs. It's been proven, genetically and in Supreme Court (Alabama etc.) that no dog is dangerous simply based on its breed. The proposed pit bull ban in Ontario is an atrocity. Thousands of innocent pit bulls will die as a result. Responsible owners will suffer incredibly while irresponsible owners will either remain underground or switch to other breeds.
Do some research on this breed before jumping to conclusions. American Pit Bull Terriers make wonderful family pets, they make great service dogs and thepary dogs as well.
The ones that speak bad about this breed are the people that actually havent had the chance to be around the BEST dog in the world. It is definately how they are trained. I have a 95 pound pit and I have a son who is 5. The pit has been around my son since they were both babies. And I would NEVER let anything around my son that had the posability of hurting him. You guys NEED to do your research and visit people and their pits to see its not all of them its the few that have bad owners. My dog is less harmful than a little poodle!
We see alot of publicity about the breed. too bad none of it is good. The only time you hear anything about the breed is if someone gets bit.most of the time its not even a pitty thats doing the biting. No one wants to talk about all the good things they are doing, search&rescue, therapy dogs, guid dogs. No one wants to hear all of the good that the breed does. They are NOT bad dogs, but some have bad OWNERS, and the only way to stop the spread of the hate is through education...
Do the right thing, be the unbiased and legitimate reporters of the facts you are supposed to be. Don't creep up side alleys hoping to catch a good shot of a barking dog at the window - interview dogs and owners on legitimate terms, visit obedience schools and agility trials and see the kind of people who really love and care for these great dogs.
To Whom it may concern...Please Look Carfully into our breeding(THE GREAT AMERICAN PITBULL TERRIER)Look into it Please you will find out, it's the dogs & i mean all dog's not just Pitbulls, a dog is what you make them... if they see the world they'll now the world & not be affraid.. it up to good Owners, not just what the meadia makes up,most dogs on the news aren't even pure bred, or they been on a chain there whole life.. They are the most wonderful pet's on the planet.Loving & caring Like no other.. Punish the deed not the Breed.. there's to many of us out there, trying to show the positive side of this breed & all it takes is one to do wrong, then everybody/ I mean the meadia condems them, there millions of other dogs out there, that are more prone to bite.. pitbulls aren't even in the top ten... Thanks for your time...
I have to admit that I too had a fear of pit bulldogs, My son started raising them and I complained because everything I had heard was negative about these dogs. I did not want my grandson around them. I was wrong in thinking this, because my son has raise many over the pass 5 years and I have seen the good side of these pets. I have been around these dogs and watched my grandson at play with them. These dogs are as gentle and obedient as any other. My son is good to his animals and they are loyal to him. I have never been a dog lover, but after watching my son and grandson. I too have grown to love the Pit Bulls. I also did reseach in the beginning because I wanted to discourage my son from raising them. The reseach only proved me wrong there are more people bitten from other breeds of dogs than the pit bull. The only thing that has given these dogs a bad reputation is the crimials that purchase these dogs and mistreat them to be used for fighting. These people train the dog to be aggressive and they should be held accountable. Don't punish the animal because the owner is the abuser. I think it would be great if Fox would tell the true story.
I have a friend with the sweetest most playful and affectionate pit bull ever. Could it possibly be the original intent of the owner and how the puppy is trained?!
I am thankfull that there might be a story about our breed that will talk about the most stolen dog there is in the USA. No other dog has been thought what these dogs have and they are American Breed Dogs!!!!!
These dogs have been labeled dangerous by the coverage given by the media. It's time you "undo" what you have created and give these lovings pets their due space.
I feel that Fox would be doing the public a huge favor in showing the American people the truth about the wonderful breeds legislation calls "pit bulls". These dogs are villified by the press, yet they are often the victims of irresponsible owners. It would be nice to see a documentary on all the wonderful aspects of owning one of these dogs, the loving, devoted nature and the kind heart they possess.
As a groomer seeing a wide variety of breeds, I know that there are so many other breeds that should be considered aggressive before the pit bull. More breeders should be responsible enough to explain the demands of having each and every breed and work to match parents accordingly.
Doing a segment on the truth about pit bulls is LONG overdue! They are wonderful dogs that are just as sweet as any other! I have a pit bull mix that has changed minds of many people I know that used to think they are agressive dogs! The only thing he'll attack anyone or anything with is his kisses! :)
