The pitbull, like many other breeds that are viewed by society as dangerous are "LABELED" dangerous because of irresponsible breeders and owners. A dog is like a child, they learn from the enviornment in which they are raised.
I have volunteered an average of 25 hours a week at a no-kill shelter in Cincinnati, OH. Last year Cincinnati "banned" pit bulls and all pit bull mixes (how absurd, how can they tell?). They require tatoos, and additional insure and registration for those pit bulls that were already pets, which is very, very expensive. This has lead to mass genocide of any dog that remotely resembles a pit bull that is taken to a kill shelter and most no kill shelters will not take pits anymore since they know they will not be adopted. Pat Dewine, then of city council, initiated this "ban"...needing something to attach his name to in an election year. Since this ban he has moved on to "more important" things and the city is still forced to kill every pit bull that comes into their shelters....this ban is illegal and a joke, since it has nothing to stop dog fighting or put a stop to drug dogs, all it has really done is just killed a lot more people's pets
This is America isn't it? The land of the FREE? I find it ironic that our Armed Forces are in the middle east fighting for freedom, dying for freedom but yet here in the states we're truly not free. We can't even decide which breed of dog we want to own, namely my beloved breed the American Pit Bull Terrier. Please show that this breed does not deserve to be banned or heavily restricted, we don't have a pitbull problem but rather a people problem. It's the people behind the dog that make it dangerous and this is true for ANY breed. Those individuals should be punished for their actions not the rest of the population who are responsible pitbull owners. I have two pitbulls and they absolutely love every person they meet with every fiber of their being. Pitbulls are not inherently vicious! They are, however, inherently loving and accepting to all.
APBT's are the most loyal, affectionate and friendly of all the dogs! the media and most people need to realize what really is an APBT as compared to the 'pitbull'.
4407 Christina: " I say we challenge judges, news anchors, etc. to own a pit bull for 90 days and lets see if they have the same opinion..
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!
ABPTs are long over due for the public to know just how great a breed this really is. I hope this story will air and show the breed for what it is truly is, one of the best well rounded dogs/friends in the world.
I have 3 APBTs living with me and my wife right now. They are some of the most loving and loyal companions I have ever had. I would would give up everything for them. They are famliy and are treated as so.
i have nine dogs living at my home. seven of them are pitbulls with one chow-lab mix and a bassethound. The most dangerous dog at my home is the bassethound. When my family and myself moved in our house. One of the neighbors that lives on the next block and two houses aways started to make trouble just becuase of the pits. This breed of dog needs the true to come out. IT TS NOT THE BREED OF THE DOGS. IT IS THE POEPLE THAT TRAIN THEM, AND MAKE THEM DO THEIR WILL. THIS CAN OWNLY STOP IF THE TRUE IS PUT OUT THERE FOR ALL TO SEE
I agree that it's way past time for people to see how friendly and loving these dogs can be if raised right. They are taught somehow to be aggressive just how somehow murderers are taught aggression sometime in their lifetime. Save these poor, innocent creatures.
The media and the inexperienced would have you believe that these
breeds are vicious and should be prohibited. However, these very breeds as a
whole have proven their stability and good canine citizenry by becoming
'Search & Rescue dogs, Therapy dogs working inside hospitals,
professional Herding dogs and family companions for years.
Our Country was not founded on the restriction and punishment of the
masses based on the actions of a few....when has this changed?
A five year study published in the Cincinnati Law Review in 1982, vol.
53, pg 1077, which specifically considered both Rottweilers and "pit
bulls", concluded in part that:
...statistics did not support the assertion that any one breed was
dangerous. When legislation is focused on the type of dog it fails,
because it is unenforceable, confusing, and costly. Focusing legislation on
dogs that are "vicious" distracts attention from the real problem,
which is an irresponsible owner.
Rottweilers, “pit bulls”, Dobermans, ChowChows, and German Shepherds
are not dangerous dogs per se, rather they are breeds that are popular
not only with those devoted to them and their proper care but those who
wish a macho image. Prior to this decade other dog breeds were in
similar situations for example Dobermans, German Shepherds and ChowChows, all
breeds that were victims of great popularity and subsequent poor
handling by less than competent owners bringing them an undeserved reputation
as a 'dangerous' breed. Banning these dogs will merely hasten the
upswing in popularity of some other breed.
All dogs are dangerous under certain circumstances. Only when the owner
or custodian of the animal does not properly train and confine his/her
animal, does that animal pose a potential risk to human safety. A
common ingredient to the dog personality is to guard and protect it's owner
and property. ANY dog with that personality can becom
Please show everyone that we must blame the deed, not the breed! Breed Specific Legislations punish the responsible owners, not the criminals who break the law anyways!!!
My pumpkin was an exstremly loving dog, and didn't deserve the fate she got when my mother took her to the shelter behind my back. She was murdered because of irgance. Please stop it all.
Everyone who has ever owned a pit bull, especially those with children, should be writing letters to the editors of their local papers expressing their views and their positive experiences with this breed. A massive public relations campaign is needed, starting with happy pit bull owners.
Having been falsely convicted of organized dog fighting, I found that the nature of these so-called gruups such as PETA, Humane Society, and many SPCA's have created a witch hunt of sort. Animal Planet only shows local SPCA's acting as though they're saving some poor old Pit Bull, when in fact they kill almost 95% plus percent of the Pit Bulls they pick up. And they kill 100% if the dog shows aggression towards any other type on animal, despite the fact that many breeds do exactly the same.
i have 2 pitbull's and people here in our block are more afraid of touching chow chow's than my pit's. they are both well known around our neighborhood kids approach them when we walk around the park hug them and stuff. any dog has potential to be dangerous but it's up to the responsible owners to teach their dog's to behave.
I would ever have anyother breed of dog.I have a son and daughter and they love our two pit bulls.I get sick of people over reacting when they find out what kind of dogs i have. Give Love and Get love out of these dogs
The New Bedford Humane Society Rescue center in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts Puts Pitt Bulls to sleep. They do not give these dogs a chance for adoption. The think that because they found them wandering a dirty small city that they are "evil" dogs. The last time I went to look at the dogs I saw scared innocent pupppies scratching at their cold cages because I could not take them home with me. I cried because these people automaticaly gave up on them!
We would never have been given a second chance if our mom and dad never came to our rescue. We are not bad dogs. My sister and I are belong to the best group out there! We're Family dogs and the most loyal out of them all. We don't mind our tails or ears getting tuged just as long as you rub our bellies! Please help stop the bad mouthing about us and tell the truth!
I think that as a Military man and a man that fought for freedom. I should be able to keep and train the dog of my choice. I also do beleave that i should also be responbile for that dog's actions to. I think beleave in freedom and thats what I signed up to fight for so how do you call it free limiting me to what kind of dog I own. Please ask yourself that question. Before you tell me I can not own what I Love The American Pit Bull Terrier that runs throught the house with my two year old.
I Really would like for ALL news and radio broadcastings stations to do a segment about the Truth of the Pitt Bull breed and their RESPONSIBLE owners. It would mean so very much to a dog that is being forced out of the lives of children and other people who care for this breed that has so wrongly been DISCRIMINATED against. I ask you Fox news to put your BIAS(S) aside and tell your audience about this misunderstood breed. Hopefuly you can bring awareness that the breed is not whats the problem its the IRRESPONSIBLE people who own them and think fighting them is "fun". thank you
I'm a volunteer in a portuguese association for animal's rights - Sobreviver - and as a consequence i daily deal with all sort of breeds. It is a myth that pitbulls are naturally harmfull. They are lovely and beatufil animals.
I have been rescuing dogs for 24 years. Have discovered that "Pits" are some of the smarter dogs, and very people oriented. I feel safer placing a Pit than a Lhasa or Shih Tzu!!!
Bless you for doing this only responsible pitbull owners know the truth about these dogs. A few bad apples can definitely spoil the bunch for the rest of us. I have owned a beagle, rottweiler Great Dane and cocker spaniel and my two pits are the most stable and loving of any of them. I doubt that I will ever own a different breed.
It is truly hard to listen to all of the negative stereotypes that are made about pitbulls from people who have never owned one. This breed is the most loyal, trustworthy, loving breed that you will ever have the pleasure of owning. We need to take time out of our busy day to educate the public about this breed who is so important to me and my family...they are our family! Please call upon anyone who cares and and tell them to sign up for what is right! PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED. So that we may enjoy the breed who at one time was America's dog!
Was always nervous about this breed because of inaccurate reporting by the media but took a chance with a reputable breeder and now I know the truth. These dogs are amazing. Intelligent, loyal and very affectionate.
Pitbulls are great dogs to have they are very loving..I have had pits for the last 15yr and have never had any problem with any of them they get along with everybody...
Its completely unfair to "label" Pitbulls, Its racism directed to dogs. The few that have attacked were beaten their whole lives and taught to be mean. How nice would you be if you were locked in a tiny caged and only let out to fight or be killed?
Please try to understand that it is the responsability of the HUMAN owner to raise the pit bull to be a loving family dog. Not the responsability of the PET dog to be good. Any dog will be vicious if it is not treated kindly.
