First off, I'M A 24 YEAR OLD MOM WITH 8 KIDS, 4 OF WHICH ARE PITBULLS AND 1 ROTTIE, AND I HAVE TO SAY I'M VERY TIRED OF ALL THE BAD HYPE THE PITBULLS ARE GETTING. I TRUST MY 5 DOGS WITH MY 1, 4 AND 9 YEAR OLD CHILDREN BETTER THAN ANY HUMAN. I THINK IF I HAD THE POWER TO CHANGE PEOPLES MIND I WOULD BY GIVING EVERY NON-BELEIVER A PITBULL PUPPY TO RAISE FOR THEMSELF. SO BEFORE YOU JUDGE THIS BREED WHY DON'T YOU DO SOME RESARCH AND FIND OUT HOW MUCH THIS BREED HAS DONE FOR PEOPLE,POSITIVE THINGS, AND YOU WILL FIND THAT THE GOOD OUT WEIGHS THE BAD ANYDAY AND GET OFF THE PITS BACK!!!!!!!
If you want to punish the APBT, then begin by punishing the cruel human beings who mistreat these wonderful dogs. My APBT was a rescue dog who is the most wonderful, special dog. I have had several breeds of dogs including collies and golden retrievers in my lifetime, but nothing compares to this dog. I have her in the house around my 1 year old and six year old. She just loves my children. She was terribly abused before we got her. The guy was given a slap on the wrist for what he did to her and her pups. No jail time. SHe is now healthy and happy, regardless of a few scars and nightmares she has during the night. Even after all she has been through, she loves absolutely everyone. She would leave with a stranger. She has never growled or tried to bite anyone. Her tail is always wagging. I would definitely own another one. They are the most people loving dog breed I have ever been around. She is extremely smart too. My mother would not speak to me for a month after I brought her home, she thought I was a horrible parent for putting that dog around my children. But, my mom absolutely loves her now. Looks like I may have to try and find her one now!! As an ambassador for the breed, we APBT owners must educate the public on this breed. They are under fire now more than ever. We must begin by putting stricter punishments on abuse, neglect, and dog fighting. Maybe then the eye of the media will be taken off of this breed.

I have 6 of these great dogs. I've been raising American Pitbull Terriers for 15 years. They are everything to me and my family. Of all the years that I've had pitbulls I have never had a dog bite or hurt anybody. I have a seven year old daughter that feeds and plays with all our dogs. NEVER!!! have our dogs showed any signs of aggression toward her or any one else for that matter. My dogs are very healthy, happy dogs. Our vet even enjoys seeing our dogs and always comments on how healthy, happy & well cared for they are. They are truly part of our family. Dogs are what you make of them, just like anything else. If you would like to see how a true pitbull loving family takes care of their dogs feel free to contact me.
I have many APBT's, I currently have 6. 3 of them are intact males that live in the same house together and sleep together. I have raised and trained this breed for going on 8 years. I currently work with a local shelter and ACO by helping them find homes for this breed so they have a chance in life. If properly raised, they make a wonderful pet. Mine are around children and love them. Its not the breed itself, its ho they are raised and bred. You make a dog no matter what breed it is what you want it to be. The government shouldn't punish everyone for the stupidity and irresponsible ownership of this breed because of those idoits who chose to have their dogs mean and not taking care of. My parents were scared of this breed when I brought my first one home 8 years ago, now they love my dogs and come to the defense of this breed if anyone says anything negative. I am a vet tech and went to school for this stuff. I love this breed and anyone that has met my dogs have gotten a different opinion about how pitbulls really are instead of basing everything on what they hear about them through the media.
i dont think pittbulls are aggressive it's just the way they're raised by people. for example if you take a child and make them aggressive, he's gonna be aggressive when he's older. i am the owner of a 3 yr old pittbull. i think they get a bad rep. just like dobermans and rottweilers had at one time.
I have owned several pitbulls; each of which has been nothing but loyal-loving companions. They have been raised with children and other animals around and not even one time have I ever had any problem with them. The media concentrates on any pitbull or pitbull mix that has become an issue, but why do they not look further into the reasoning behind the "attacks". Recently in Philadelphia there was a female pitbull that attacked a 2yr old child; the pit was nursing a litter of pups and the child was not being supervised. The parents of the child are more to blame than the female pitbull who was protecting her pups. The media concentrates on the wrong angle in my opinion.
Any dog raised to be aggressive will be aggressive. Pit Bulls, and their AKC counterpart, American Staffordshire Terriers, when raised by responsible owners, are delightful, loving, and funny companions. The first dogs my daughter and son ever showed were Am Staffs. The breeder who provided dogs to my kids and who taught them to show is celebtating the 50th anniversary of his breeding kennel. He has bred for stable temperament since the beginning, and his dogs are good-natured and trustworthy around people of any age. It is cruel and inaccurate to write off an entire breed of dogs as vicious or unmanageable because of the few dogs who were taught by unscrupulous owners to attack or fight. Talk to the longtime breeders and owners so that people understand how important proper socialization and training are for any dog of any breed. Breeders and owners MUST be responsible--we are in a political climate that leans toward restricting the rights of dog owners to own or breed. The bully breeds get lots of negative press, but there are many more breeds that are under attack throughout the country in city and county ordinances.
In the care of a responsible owner, I have never experienced an aggressive animal. I imagine you can train any animal to be aggressive. All it takes is an irresponsible owner or breeder.
I have worked in Animal Control for 8yrs and have found pitbulls to be some of the happiest dogs in our shelter. any behavior issues they may have seem to disappear as soon as their "bad" owners do.
Pitbulls pulls are great dogs, I own them myself. They always get the bad guy threat. The good things are never only the bad that happen when they are in bad hands I trust my dogs around everyone even complete strangers!
Leave it to the media to only want people to hear the ugly. I have a pitbull who thinks she's a 70 pd. lap dog. She is more loving then the yippy aggressive poodle I got bit by when I was little. Where was the media then??????
It is ashame that these beautiful animals are being banned in cities across our country. Responsible owners are having to get additional insurance because of the irresponsibility of owners that are causing the problem!
Any dog of any breed can be taught agression. Forty years ago the hue and cry was about the Doberman Pinscher, then it was the Rottweiler, now it's the so-called pit bull, which isn't really a breed of dog. I have been involved with dogs on many levels since 1959. I have seen good and bad characteristics in almost every breed. It's unfortunate that in our society some people feel they need agressive dogs to protect them, and do everything possible to enhance the prey drive instinctive in all breeds. THE DOG IS NOT THE PROBLEM. The owner is the problem. Ban one breed and another will quickly take its place. The solution is to enforce the laws already in place, and provide stiff penalties for those who refuse to abide by those laws.
I own two pitbulls and they are my BEST friends. they are loyal and loving and I trust them completely around my children and my friends. My girls have been shown nothing but love and THEY know it.As with anything, it is a matter af how it is raised! Its HUMAN ignorance that gives pitbull bashers something to talk about. It breaks my heart to see any animal mistreated ,but especially a pitbull (because you probably know what it's been through.) Thanks,to everyone that loves their pitbull as much as I love mine. Remember- punish the deed, not the breed!!
We've recently adopted a rescue Staffy that had been mistreated and abused. For having been through so much trauma, one would think she would hate humans! But she loves everyone, children, dogs, cats. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body! Her spirit would not be broken!
I knew very little about pitbulls until I started working in an animal shelter. They wiggled their way into my heart and are now my favorite breed. I have worked with many pits that have been with "bad owners", but they are still the smartest and most loving animals. I
I also had a misconception of pitbulls growing up. I recently adopted a wonderful pitbull from the furry friends foundation. She is the sweetest dog i have ever owned. She is eager to please and very loyal. She is also great with kids and I hopefully will get to use her as a therapy dog soon. I Know i never would of considered adopting a pitbull until i read and researched information on the breed. I believe that education is the key to stopping the injustice that this breed has been shown. Please consider educating others about this wonderful breed.
Anything can be viscious if they are taught to be. I've encountered many pits, working at an animal hospital, and have NEVER had a problem with them. BE FAIR!!!
I adopted an APBT from a wonderful organization called Pit Prints Rescue. I have been a dog owner my entire life. While this dog is just a puppy still, I can tell how loyal, obediant, and loving this breed is. These animals deserve FAIR AND BALANCED PRESS COVERAGE!!!!!
Count me in .I am 30 & i have had & been around A.P.B.T's since i was 9-10.NEVER have i been so OUTRAGED @ the way these people makes our dogs look.Pure negativity! The cocker-spanial has more human attacks according to federal census ,but i don't see any "officials" trying to wipe-out spaniels.Show our breed for what they really are Care,Loving dogs with HUGE hearts.
It's a shame people make such uninformed comments and resolve ignorant mindsets about a loyal and eager to please breed. This breed has everything to be proud of and so few to appreciate it. The horrid owners who teach and encourage aggressive behavior should be the one's in the hot seat, not the pit who is only doing what he's been taught!
i have a 6mo apbt and people ask me if shes mean which shes not, yet i find my self in and endless cycle of trying to explain that she is loving, wants to play and just cuddle. and when i hear these questions asked about her i explain the REAL loving, loyal temperments that the apbt have, and in the back of my head i,m like shes just a baby. apbt need more respect and people like us should be the ones to help them earn it. this petition is one of the best things i've come across for helping apbt, and i hope for all of the pitbulls it goes through.
Reveal the FACTS...not myths and half truths. The "Bull & Terrier" breeds have been subjected for too many years to bad press. Having owned 4 pure bred English Bull Terriers I have been inidated by the mis-informed public on too many occasions to count. The public needs the true facts about Staffs, Am Staffs, Enlish Bull Terriers and American Pit Bull Terriers. The public needs to know that ANY DOG of ANY BREED in the hands of an irresponsible owner is capable of being dangerous.
i used to fight these dogs, and had a kennel called Vise Grip Kennels, check the web for me. anyhow, i got busted and was taught a stern lesson about how cruel my actions really were. now i devote my time and energy denouncing the mistreatment of these dogs. they are a wonderfull breed that is unfortunately exploited by us.
Having been involved in rescue for several years now and learning more and more about pits every day, all I can say is that those who have never loved a pit are missing out on something truely wonderful
Pitbulls are well minded dogs with more love giving you ten times back. 14 years experience pit bull owner and 7 years show handler and breeder. In Jacksonville, FL we had to move from Miami,FL due to BSL Law. We are not going to give up on our dogs,If never committed a crime.
I am involved in rescue through a local shelter. I have been working with Pits for 5 years now and have found that if we are lucky enough to have one come thru our doors that has not been ruined by a human we find that they are loving companions who only aim to please. There are no bad dogs - just bad owners.
I have had this breed for over 15 years and wouldn't ever go without! I have two children and trust my dogs with them. We did rescue for over 10 years, and had over 100 dogs come through our house. We never had one that showed aggression to humans. This breed is a fixture in our history and has been a best friend to many important people. Stubby (WWI), Helen Keller, Buster Brown, Petey (Little Rascals) Popsicle (Drug Dog) and several more. Please take time to learn more about this wonderful breed. YOu would be lucky to have one as a friend.
The apbt is a breed of dog.
And like any breede they will do what it was taught to or what it is let to do.As with most breeds they just want to please thier masters. The media is a business, sure they are to report the news but they lean towards the news that will sell, newspapers, ratings etc..And a pit bull in the news will do that! And it is a shame because if they put the statistics out with those same stories
the public would see that its not what its made up to be.
Anyone who has been owned by a Pit Bull KNOWS they are very loving and loyal dogs. I have three as well as several other breeds of dogs as well. *we have a rescue* I do wish that FOX would break ahead of the media and give air time to RESPONSIBLE, LOVING, GUARDIANS of these remarkable and beautiful creatures. I also need to add that I have four children under age 10! My children will not be subject to prejudice for their dogs? PLEASE do a piece on how great they are and lets stop this media attack on them.
I've owned two pitt bulls who were very loving and friendly. They wiggle all over when you get home & climbed in anyone's lap to lick their face if given half a chance.
These dogs are what you make them! As is any dog you can train a beagle to be aggresive if you want to!
Because of the fact that they are athletic and muscular SOME people use them for the wrong reasons!!! But what about the responsible owners and breeders? Should they lose there dogs because of the other assholes out there? WTF!!!
We own a pit mix, who happily and respectfully shares a home with three cats. He has been well-trained, and recently earned his Canine Good Citizen Certificate. Calvin is a delight--he is a testament to what love and training can do. He's come a long way from the dog chained outside a Detroit warehouse.
Because of all the media hype when I was looking to get a dog the "pit bull" was not on my list. However I have since met several of the wonderfull creatures! They can steal your heart, they are loving, loyal and snuggable. My German Shorthair Pointer has several as friends and plays with them regularly.
I am 62 now, and have had dogs since I was 6 years old. Pit Bulls, with appropriate love, non-aggressive training and care are delightful and loving companions for humans.
At present, my household consists of a Rottweiler, 3 German Shepherds, a lab/shepherd cross, a golden retriever pup and a cross between a Doberman, Border Collie and shepherd. ALL of them are rescues, All of them are gentle with each other and the grandkids. NONE of them show aggressive tendancies.
If a Pit Bull should need rescue when one of these has left me, I will consider that dog for membership in my family as I did these.
It's wrong to blame the Pit Bull breed for the illegal actions of humans. Better to increase the animal cruelty laws and enforce them so that irresponsible, illegal and stupid human behavior is stopped.
While I am NOT the owner of a pit bull, I know of at least 30 owned by or cared for by friends or their families. One was somewhat aggressive, and was euthanized by its own owner for what she considered to be "aggressive behavior". My point of contention for any breed specific legislation or action is that it does not account for individuality or wonderful, kind individuals, but rahter condemns all members of a breed (or race) much as a racist hates or condemns all indviduals of one race simply for belonging to that race. Most pitbulls owned by responsible owners are no more a threat than Rottweilers, Terriers, (I had two Scotties, one of which bit 2 people), or Labradors(a breed that has topped the "I bit a human" list). Let's all be objective and stop this mania against an entire group for the actions of a few criminal pit owners. Many authorities can't even distinguish between a pit and a boxer!
Any dog can be a lover. It just takes that special someone to show them that kind of love and compassion. If they are taught to kill then yes that is what they will do. And because they are taught to do this there is really no hope for them but to put them down and that is sad. And not right. There should be something that could be done for these poor and abused dogs.
Most dogs learn what a person is willing to teach them if it is how to hurt then that is what they learn if it is how to love then that is what they learn!!!
I have a pit that is nothing but a mommas boy. He sleeps under the covers with me, and rests his head on my chest as we fall asleep. I can't picture harming a hair on anything because he is just so sweet and gentle..he does the same with my 7 yr. old daughter when she sits on the living room floor.
I own 2 pitbull terriers, and they are both great. The public needs to be educated on this breed before they pass judgment! I hope that Fox will do a positive segment on APBT's, and show how wonderful these dogs really are.
