I safehoused pitbulls for years. Not only are they a noble and gentle breed, but they were the most loving dogs that I have ever had experience with. It is disturbing to share this with friends and family only to hear the familiar, "Aren't they aggressive?" or "Won't they turn on you?" The pitbulls that I cared for would never have "turned on" me, on the contrary, they were my constant companions. Please consider putting on a segment with an accurate portrayal of these wonderful animals. They are dying at the hands of our ignorance.
Sincerely,
Amy Brust
My sister has two pits and her dogs are beautiful and very friendly. My son enjoys playing with them and they enjoy seeing and playing with him as well. Her dogs are very well behaved and do well with others. I believe that whoever invented this banning of these specific breed of dogs needs to consder the German Shepareds that have torn kids up. I just hope that this signature will help you dog owners in the biggest way.
I have owned and breed american pitbull terriers for seven years, and understand the risks of any animals. I would not want my three year old to grow up with any other breed.
I am the owner of two pit bulls that are the most loving and loyal dogs I've ever known. The bad owners should be punished, not the breed...get your facts straight please.
I've had these dogs for over 20 years and they are wonderful dogs. My old man won Best of Breed at Westminster Kennel Club in 2004 and is a great ambassador for the breed. Please help us educate the public on the "other side" to this wonderful breed. The media only shows the negative. I'm public ed coordinator for STCA and willing to help if you want. The "problem" is a PEOPLE problem, not a pit bull problem!!
I own 3 of these wonderful dogs. They are kind, loving, and very loyal!!! The owners with "Aggresive" dogs should be held accountable, not the dogs. Our "Dogs" are as our children are they are a product of their upbringing... Be responsible & you will have a breed that will love you unconditionally!!!
The public needs to understand that pitbull dogs are wonderful loyal pets the bad thing that happens is they fall in wrong hands and they need to punish deed not breed
Pitts are fantastic dogs. It is the humans that have given them the horrible rep. they have. Those dogs DO NOT deserve to be punished for the shortcomings of human beings. I use that term very lightly for those idiots that make them fight.
I have owned many different dogs such as boxers, bulldogs, labs, and pitbulls. The most loving and loyal one was the pitbull. Let people know the truth.
This is a very loveable and loyal family dog.It is mans best friend or in the wrong hands mans worst enemy. This breed is misunderstood and needs the chance to show their side that others choose not to see.
We have several pit bull terriers of varying ages, both male and female. They are the joyful playmates of my kids, grandkids, neighbors & the assorted pets they have. We have never experienced any aggression towards any family member or friends. As responsible owners, our dogs are trained from birth to have manners and demonstrate respect. Pits are incredibly loving, loyal and playful. With proper training they are the perfect family pet. Read the breed standard which references their wonderful temperment. It is time the media highlighted the majority of pits as opposed to the minority who generate all the bad press. Please help us change the current perception of this delightful breed.
I am a proud owner of an APBT. He is 15 months old and cannot be any more loyal, well tempered and excellent with my 8 month old son. They are a loyal breed with the right owner and I am a strong believer in punish the deed not the breed.
The American Pit Bull Terrier has the perfect mix of courage, loyalty, intelligence, determination, and comic-relief (just watch Petey from "Our Gang" aka "The Little Rascals!"). In my opinion he is THE representative dog of America, and just like other countries are jealous of and do not understand America, such is true of the American Pit Bull Terrier. See the "Badrap" website!
Since getting my first AST/APBT back in 1981, I have loved the loyalty, affection, intelligence and tolerence towards children that these dogs exibit. My dogs have been the constant playmates of my children and their friends. I have owned 4 purebred and one mix pit-lab and the pit-lab is the one who had the behavior problems! My female Princess who is 3 years old now does work with problem youth and teens as a "therapy dog", bringing smiles and comfort to kids who don't have homes or pets of their own.
We have raised numerous Pit Bulls around children. Never have they been aggressive or mean to any family member or friends. I believe it depends on who raises the animals.
I live in Ontario, Canada where they have already banned this breed. I think it's a tragedy that this has occured. And above all, it isn't the solution to the so called pitbull "problem".
Awesomem breed. My only dog has been a pit and I'll never own another breed. No other breed compares in personality, intelligence, affection, and overall goofiness.
In behavior test after behavior test, pit bulls have been shown to have NO genetic predisposition for viciousness or even unfriendliness. Breed-specific legislation is not grounded in any scientific fact. I worked as a volunteer in a local animal shelter, and I walked many pit bulls; they were, without exception, friendly, well-socialized dogs. They went on to be adopted into homes where they live happily to this day.
I have been around many pit bulls, pure and mixed breeds. I have nothing but love and compassion for these sweet beings. I let my 3 and 5 year old run around with them all the time and they have never been hurt in any way by them. They have protected them to say the least. When my oldest child was just an infant, I have several pictures of her laying with a beautiful pit bull and playing, sleeping, you name it. Shame on the jerks who portray these wonderful dogs as hateful, dangerous beings!!! It is the owners of them that make them what they are!!
I personally have owned 2 well bred Gaff kennels pitbulls. Both dogs had great temperments and a well built muscle structure, intimidating to say the least. They were very loving animals that would never harm anyone. And after doing some research and seeing the difference between a dog that was bred for tenacious behavior and a dog that was bred and trained the right way. What is glorified on tv is the pit bulls tough look and fearsome bark. But what isnt shown is how pitbulls are people friendly dogs and not attack dogs. Most people just label the dog as dangerous and dont investigate like they do everything else and that is because they could care less about the breed. I have known pit bull owners that have raised killer dogs and they knew what they were doing...inbreeding them and then mixing the dog with a labrador. This combo is very lethal. If someone is going to do a segment on the breed they should show both sides of the breed instead of just the negative. These dogs are loyal and gentle giants far from what people paint them out to be (like everything else in this world).
Awesome breed! Funny, loving, loyal, goofy. Come visit mine! She will change anyone's negative attitude towards them! She lives with 6 cats and 1 other dog and has NEVER shown aggression. She's never met a "stranger" she didn't love!
Any person who has a history of animal abuse or neglect or is not a responsible owner shouldn't be allowed to own a Pit Bull. Being naturally animal aggressive, it takes a responsible owner who understands their instinct to fight other "animals" to keep them out of trouble. However, this doesn't make them dangerous dogs to people. Very rarely does a Pit Bull show human aggression. Unfortunately, everytime anyone is injured or bitten by a dog, that dog is labeled "Pit Bull" as if it is a dirty word or an insult. They get such a bad rap and they're fantastic dogs. They deserve better than that!
Any dog can attack a person or other animals...not just Pit Bulls. The only reason that a Pit Bull would attack someone is because of the way they are raised, & of course they would attack out of fear...but what animal wouldn't if they feel threatened by something!!! Pits don't deserve the bad rap that they get!
Instead of banning a certain breed of dog, how 'bout we ban certain people from owning any animal, period. There should be a record kept of people who abuse and neglect animals (from public complaints). The people are the ones who are VICIOUS!!!
I have a pit bull mix. He is the best dog ever! He is great with my two kids. The second child was born after he came to our household and he was better behaved than we had hoped with the new baby. He is just an awesome dog. People need to understand that these dogs that attack people are raised to do so. We are all equiped to become killers, but that doesn't mean that we are!
Feel free to come to my house and interview me! I am the Secretary for Turtle Moon Rescue in AL. I have 3 pit bulls & 1 pb mix of my own, and 15 fosters-not one of them will do anything but lick you to death!!!
Breed specific bans are like witch hunts back in the day. Pit bulls act the way the owner trains them. We have 2 children under 4 years old, and 6 pit bulls, never once a problem. It doesn't even cross my mind that my dogs would harm our children. If anything, they will protect our family, not harm them.
E'1 has the right to own whatever dog they desire to have. As long as you take well good care of your dogs. If you have a pitbull dog; U have the right to have that dog. I say yes to have fox news to broadcast the truth about these animals. Own whatever kind of dog U want. Just don't abuse; nor neglect these animals.
