There's no such thing as a bad dog, just a bad owner. Pitbulls have an unfair reputation because of ignorant owners who enjoy raising aggressive dogs. FOX News, please help!
Ignorance and lack of morals are the downfalls to these beautiful and loving family-oriented animals. People fear what they do not know including how some of these animals are treated and raised (due to the owner's immoralities). These wonderful creatures should not suffer for that.
I never dared go near a pitbull until I started volunteering at our local dog shelter. Now I see that pitbulls are lovable, friendly, affectionate, and loyal.
*******FOX NEWS****** They are a numerous amount of famous people that are sure to come on for an opinion of the AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIERS they own. Including Micheal J. Fox, Roy Jones Jr, Micheal Vick, and many many more! This type of publication could benifit you as well as the apbt.
When pitbulls are raised properly they are wonderful family pets, we have two in our family that we love.
Unfortunatley there are people out there that abuse these animals and the owners should be banned not the dogs. We have been calling animal control now for several months about 2 pitbulls that are being mistreated and that have turned nasty. Neighbors have seen these dogs kicked by owners on several occasions and just recently the owners gave the dogs a live animal to destroy. I'm afraid that these dogs will get loose and hurt someone or another animal and these owners should be the ones put away and punished not the pitbulls!
I am the proud guardian of a beautiful 4yr old American Staffordshire Terrier and a (53lb lap dog) 11mo old APBT. Both dogs are great. Socialization is the first step to owning a wonderful adult pit bull. Both my kids go to Central Bark Doggy Daycare, have been through training classes(including agility and they are currently working on becoming Canine Good Citizens) and have been to multiple fundraising events for local humane societies, just to list a few. I would suggest taking a look at Diane Jessup's magazine devoted to the responsible ownership of bull breeds at fullybully.com. I think EVERYONE who has a doubt in this breed may look at them in a different light after hearing her perspective.
Prejudice and fear drive the unknowing people into banning and disrespecting the breed for what it really is; exactly what you teach him to be.A pitbull has a very deep and devoted loyalty to his master and will do ANYTHING to please his master. The bad people teach these dogs to be bad because that's what they want out of the dog.Good people receive exactly what they want out of the same dogs and only have good dogs. Common sense about the way something is brought up could really shine a light on what's going on with these dogs.
AS WITH CHILDREN, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HOW YOU PETS ARE TRAINED. EVEN A CHIUAHUA CAN BE VICIOUS IF TRAINED IN THAT MANNER! THEY JUST DON'T HAVE THE SIZE TO INTIMIDATE PEOPLE...
ANIMALS ARE A PRODUCT OF THEIR TRAINING, JUST AS CHILDREN ARE. PLEASE HELP US--HELP THESE COURAGEOUS ANIMALS! THANKS AND GOD BLESS!
I have dealt with these dogs, competed with these dogs, bred and raised these dogs for nearly 20 yrs...without ANY thing negative happening ever. This breed deserves the truth to be told and I, as an avid FOX NEWS watcher hope someone will pick this up and tell the "rest of the story" about the breed we are so passionate about.
My family owns 7 pit bulls that have been raised inside with cats, other animals, and young children. We take responsibility as owners to avoid any problems with proper training and care. Each of my dogs is a sweetheart. I cannot imagine my life without these dogs.
I have had Pit-bulls for years, and as a responsible owner, they have been sweet and wonderfully tempered around all my human family and friends. It is the irresposible owners who should be getting the bad raop, the the sweet dogs.
These are the most loving dogs I`ve ever owned. The problem is with ignorant owners, you cant blame a dog for being stuck with a horrible owner. No dog deserves that.
Hello, I have been in the animal control field for a little over 5 yrs or so, and in my honest opinion the pitbull is a great dog, the responsibility is with the owner not the dog. All these dogs want to do is please their owners. I have had many pitbulls that I rescued and all were great with my family and even my other pets, and these were strays off of the street and all they wanted was love. I pick up strays for a living and there are many breeds out there that are by far more dangerous than the pitbull. Please help show the truth about the pitbull, meaning the great dogs that they are and want to be, these dogs are therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, pets for children and families, they compete in obedience and agility trials and excel in them. The negative side of the breed is only brought out by horrible people that could probably make a chihuahua deadly if they tried. Sorry this is so long.
Please as a respected news organization tell all sides of the story! Pit Bulls I've share my life with are teddy bears ... I can't say the same about the people I've shared my life with.
I can not believe that the country that whelped the APBT now is atacking it, and doesn´t undrestand the goodness of the breed. The pit bull is likw wathsoever dog. Just we have to be more careful with them.
I have adopted 2 pitbulls and have owned 2 others in the past. My dogs are the kindest, gentlest creatures with the most wonderful disposition, not to mention, beautiful and extremely intelligent!!!! Society should consider the cause of any dog's behavior, not the breed!
i think people need to be more aware that the issue with pitbulls is the result of people mis using pits for in humane entertainment. i agree that it is not the dogs fault but human fault for how society sees pitbulls.
I have owned pitbulls my whole life and have never had wone even attemt to bite a person I breed some of the most stable dogs in the world my kids have always taken care of them with not as much o a scatch they are the best breed out there
Please do not ban the breed. Pitbulls are fun loving, loyal family dogs. They are not naturally aggressive it is the irresponsible HUMAN that makes them that way. We need to educate the general public, who only see the bad pitbulls that they see in the media.
The public needs to be re-educated about the Pitbull Terrier. I work at an animal shelter, and I have noiced many pitbulls with wonderful temperments remain unadopted simply because of their name.
Unfortunately for the breed, public bias almost ensures a longer stay in animal shelters. Pitbulls are very intellegent and unless provided some mental stimulation in a shelter environment, they deteriorate quicker then other breeds. This plays havoc on national numbers (ie. breed-adoption rates and euthanasia rates).
Pitbulls are wonderful dogs. They need to be raised and trained responsibly, just like any other dog. Heck, Chihuahuas bite about 3 or 4 TIMES as many people per year than pitbulls. American Pitbull Terriers are NOT a naturally human aggressive breed of dog.....they have to be MADE that way through training, abuse, or bad breeding.
have an American Pit Bull Terrior mix. She is sweet and not at all aggressive. Although her bark scares people, is nly her fear bark. She would never hurt anone. Don't ban a good bread, ban the people who train (and breed)dogs, any dogs, to be mean. Dobermen and Rotwilers are other examples o dogs that are trained (and sometimes breed) to be mean and agressive. Breeders, don't jump on me, I know there ar many great breeders out there, just like there are gret breeds, How do we keep the few bad breedrs from hurting eeryone else.
ive got several pitbulls on my yard right now and i got 4 kids and i will not own any pet that i would think would harm my kids so the american pitbull terrior is just an awesome dog smart, loyal, and just over all loveable i would not have any kind of dog for the fact that the pitbull is safer for me and my family so plz let the segment air so the world can see the truth of the breed and not what they were falsly told of
I myself had been missinformed about pits intil two years ago when I adopted my first Pit, Sadie. She brought so much happiness to into my life that I decided to adopt Mekka, My 2 year old male pit. These two dogs are truely the best! Both of them had been abused in the past, but yet they have nothing but love to give. I have been truely blessed! Pit bulls are loyal and very loving, all they need is the same in return.
MY BEST FRIEND OWNS A PIT AND ITS GREAT WITH MY 6 YR OLD AND HER 4YR OLD. I MYSELF AM PLANNING ON OWNING ONE HES JUST AS SWEET AS THEY COME. I HAD AN AGGRESIVE ROT AND WAS SCARED OF IT BUT NEVER A PIT. ITS DUMB PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEM MEAN AND USUALLY THE PITS GET HURT WORSE THEN THE OTHER DOG.. AND WHEN THEY ARE CAUGHT THEY GET A SLAP ON THE HAND WHY NOT GIVE THEM A REAL PUNISHMENT
MY DAUGHTER HAS OWNED PITS FOR YEARS AND THEY ARE GREAT DOGS. ESPECIALLY WITH MY YOUNG GRANDAUGHTER AND MY CHILDREN. IVE OWNED ONE AND HE WAS AS GENTLE AS THEY COME. A CHIHUHUA BIT ME. ID FEAR THEM BEFORE I WOULD FEAR A PIT. PUNISH TH BAD PEOPLE..THEY NEED TO BE TREATED THE SAME WAY THE MISTREAT THESE GREAT DOGS
PIT BULLS ARE GREAT FAMILY DOGS,MY PIT SLEEPS WITH MY DAUGHTER AND IF HE HEARS A STRANGE NOICE HE BARKS OUTOF PROTECTION AND HES ONLY 4 MONTHS OLD. HES PROTECTING HIS FAMILY.NOT BAD DOGS BAD OWNERS. BAN THE STUPID PEOPLE WHO ABUSE AND MISTREAT THEM!!!THEY WERE RATED IN THE TOP 5 OUT OF ALL DOGS FOR THE BEST FAMILY DOG WITH CHILDREN...PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH AND NOT BE SO GULLIBLE. THE PEOPLE WHO DOWN THESE GREAT DOGS PROBABLY HAVE NEVER OWNED ONE...DONT KNOCK IT TILL YOU TRY IT RIGHT
Pit bulls are gentle loving animals that deserve good homes. The only legislation that should be enacted about this breed is to keep them out of the hands of bad owners.
Every animal reacts to the training it receives. Nurture overcomes nature in most cases, specifically in that of pitbulls, much maligned and misunderstood.
The ignorance involved with his breed has now reahed a peak of unheard of proprtions. This breed is being put down as puppies due to "possible future agggresion"...here is the oppurtunity for the media to put an unbiased honest foot forward.
My family has had pitts for more years than I can remember...they are a loving and lovable dog. It's the"stupid" owners that cause all the problems. There needs to be a segment done to show how wonderful these dogs truly are.
I've raised pitbulls for years, and I have never had one incident where they have gotten aggressive in any situation, because I showed them love and LOTS of attention. Its all about how u raise them. Theres been more attacks from labrador retrievers in the last year, that go unreported because they're 'nice' dogs.

ive never seen a pitbull attack anyone but i have seen a rottweiler biting this kids arm and it took 4 people to stop the dog.My friend owns a pitbull and all it likes to do is play and cuddle. its so cute!
I live with 2 pit bulls and have been attacked by what people consider to be "family dogs" rather than ever being near harm's way with my two pit bulls.
I have been working in rescue for 3 years now and have yet to meet a Pit that scares me. The only dog that ever bit me was a yellow Lab and the only dog that I have been truly scared of was a black Lab mix. He was completely unpredictable. This doesn't mean that I hate all Labs or think that we should ban the breed. That would be stupid. The same way the Pit Bull stereotype is totally rediculous. Pit Bull puppies aren't born aggressive. They also don't suddenly turn into aggressive dogs overnight. The reason there are problems is due to human ignorance and often malice. A Pit Bull that is raised in a loving home will turn into a wonderful, loving dog. I have met dozens of them. The Pits with behavior problems have been through horrible abuse/neglect. I would be aggressive too if I went through half of what some of these dogs do. The people who mistreat these dogs (or any animal) should be punished, not the dogs or the responsible people who love their dogs.We need to educate people and do more to get the truth out there.
I own 7 pitbulls, have 4 children, 3 grandkids, and everyone of my kids are able to pet, feed, and play with the dogs freely. I don't have to supervise them when they are around the dogs. It's all about how the owner raises the pitbull as to how it will turn out when it's grown. Pitbulls are very smart and you can raise them to do almost anything you need them to do, such as protect your house, sniff out drugs or weapons, and hunting. My biggest dog got up to 110lbs. and was never a threat to me or my family. He is a very loyal dog and pet to the entire family. I strongly disagree with the ban against pitbulls. They need to regulate the owners instead of the dogs. The owners who make them do bad things are the ones who need to be punished, not the dog themselves, they're only doing what they were taught. Again, dogs are alot like kids, in that you can raise them to be how you want them to be. It's all up to the owner.
I have been involved with dog rescue for many years now and I have had the opportunity to foster many different dog breeds, but for me Pit Bulls have always been the most memorable. Pit Bulls can be described easily with one word "Loyal", every Pit Bull foster my family has had the privellage to work with was incredibly loyal. No other dog has been more eager to please my family than Pit's. In fact one of the fosters that my family decided to keep is a Pit and she is wonderful with my family. Especially with my youngest son who is 2, she let him do anything to her and will only look up at us to see if everything is OK or she will warn me if he is doing something wrong. It makes me laugh when I talk to others about my dog or previous fosters and they respond "Oh it's a Pit", obviously they have never had the chance to own or work with a Pit Bull. I would like more people to see Pit Bulls the way I have had a chance to see them, not the way the media has portrayed these animals for so long.
How is it that pit bulls have became the only dogs that bite people anymore? Oh wait, they are'nt, They are just the only dogs that are portrayed as blood thirsty killers, maybe even the only animal with a negative image. I mean look at the white tiger that almost killed that performer, he really got messed up. Is their legislation to ban wild animal performances? Now, all the time people get hurt by animals at the zoo, are they going to ban zoos? Dog fighting is illegal, people still do it, and few get caught. Drugs are illegal and lots of people get caught. hear this, both drug dealers, and pitbulls are accused of killing people, how come drug dealers get a slap on the wrist, and pitbulls get lethal injection? Pit Dogs are not perfect nobody is. but how about putting it on the news next time the neighbors mutt digs out from under the fence and bites a child... Oh wait it probably was, but we were told it was a rabid pit dog
I have owned and rehabilitated rescued Pit's for many years. We've taken in many that have had unspeakable acts of cruelty and degrading things done to them and they still bounce back with love and care. They are one of the few breeds that I would trust with the lives of my family and children.
I have 2 pit mixes currently and 1 that recently passed away. I love them dearly. I admit, like many terrier breeds, my dogs can be rather tenacious. Awareness, care, love and consistency is what any responsible pet owner should do with any dog, Pit bulls being no different. Let's stop the ignorance about this breed!
I own 2 pit bulls. My dogs are ambassadors to the breed. We take them every where we go.They love our kids, and have always been good to them. This is a good breed.I have never owned a dog who has been as loyal as my 2 pits. There are many other dogs what will attack and bite just as bad.Bad owners make bad dogs."If pits jaws locked when biting, then they would still be hanging on."Something to always remember.
Because my wife does animal rescue, we have many different animals in and out of our home. We have a Pit of our own who is always welcoming these animals in. We have an 18 yr old Pomeranian that came to live with us about 4 months ago and our Pit just loves her, she won't touch the older dogs food, since it takes her a long time to eat off and on (she eats chicken/potatoes/roast beef, etc) and our Pit protects her when from everything. This is a wonderful breed with a lot of bad owners. Let's crack down on the Bad Owners, not ban the breed. That would be a sad shame.
I have done animal rescue for the past 18 yrs and because of ignorance, have had to rescue a lot of Pits. These are sweet and wonderful pets. They do have "bad owners" sometimes that provoke bad behavior. In general, this is a very smart, friendly, protective and cautious breed. Pits are a wonderful family pet. Gentle when they need to be and Protective when they need to be.
Are you aware that on the Top 100 Breeds "bite list" Pits are 4th from the bottom!! Cocker Spaniels and Labradors are above them. Do some research. It's the media that sways the public opinion by only showing "attacks" by pits and not the other breeds. So sad.
i think that anyone that thinks pitbulls are bad dogs because of bred are hipocrites. the dog is not bad it is the oweners oh make them bad. pitbulls are smart athletic animals that don't caude harm to any one un less they hurt them.
pitbulls are more protective than others dogs i 've had. i have had pitbulls all my life and never had one bit me or bit any one else. I think fox news should do a specail about pitbulls to prove that pitbulls are bad breds. thank you, signed nicholaus howard Bobo
When I was a small child of 2 we had a pitbull named woofers, he was the sweetest dog ever and would never have hurt anyone. When I was 4 years old i was playing in the front yard and my mom went in the house to answer the phone a guy in a van pulled up in front of our house and got out and stareted to walk over to me. When he got within 5 feet of me Woofers steped in front of me and bared his theeth and growled so ferociously the guy took off, I have know doubt he wanted to hurt me and Woofers protected me without even biting.
I worked at a shelter for almost a year and seen alot of them. they are no meaner then other dogs that were there. There is'nt a mean or bad dog people make them that waY!!
Please help stop the perpetuation of this myth about pit bulls. Please do an unbiased report that shows the facts. Let's promote education and understanding, not fear and ignorance. Pit bulls are wonderful, sweet, intelligent, loyal animals, much like humans, more so than any other breed I have owned. Please, show people the truth so people can at least make descisions based on what they know, not out of fear. Thanks, Ana
AS a responsible pet owner and a Pitbull breed lover, I respectfully apose the ban on this beloved breed. American Pitbull Terriers are truly amongst the most loyal, trust worthy, inteligent and friendly breeds around. Unfortunately, we the people rely entirely too much on the media hype and exploitation of the breed to fill our gossup lines. How could one honestly say that they are true advocates for "animals" including our K-9 companions and then support the ban of one of the greatest, if not the greatest breed to ever grace the face of the earth.! Let's put our focus and emphasis on saving our environment, our planet, our childred who live in poverty, our homeless who should be afforded the benefits of a good meal and a decent place to live, and spreading peace to the world and stop supporting those individuals who continually set out to hurt a breed of dogs that for centuries has stood the test of time and stepped up to the place against all odds and adversity as one of the greatest breeds of all time...Discrimination against any breed, regardless of one's personal likes or dislikes will only lead to greater division within our society and can only contribute to self destruction by way of encouragement of discrimination and hatred within our society. Let's get wise and remember the times of Hitler and the countless cowards of history that set out to promote their agendas through the destruction of someone else...Soon our rights as we once know them now will slowly but surely be stripped away right before our eyes...."He who forgets the past is destined to repeat it." Let's support the breed through education about the breed not by its destruction.!!!!
As a major news organization, I hope that FOX News will produce and air a story that will look beyond the negative sterotypes of pitbulls. These are perpetuated by irresponsible owners who mistreat, neglect, breed or train their dogs to fight. The American Pit Bull Terrior is a breed with a distinguished history. Backyard breeders and fighting rings have negatively impacted the breed. As is too often the case, people are at fault, not the animals that they create. Society's people and animals do deserve to be safe, however, banning a particular breed will not assure that. Only by targeting backyard breeders purposefully breeding dogs to be viscious, and putting an end to dog fighting rings, by prosecuting the participants with greater severity than is currently allowed, will the perpetuation of viscious dog breeds come to an end.
I consider myself to be very educted about pitbulls, having worked with hundreds over the years at a local humane and rescue organiztion. My husband and I have adopted two pitbulls from the same organization and are overwhelmed at how much they contribute to our family. They are extremely loving, intellingent, playful, and resilient creatures. Both are well-mannered at home, on walks, at the dog park, or in obedience classes. As responsible owners, my husband and I should not be targeted by an under-educated society or by the insurance industry for the breed of dog that we have. As history shows us, it is the dog owner as opposed to the dog breed who will ultimately determine the character of the dog.
We own two dogs, one is a female pit bull. She is the sweetest, least aggresive dog I've owned. We foster pit bulls for a rescue group, have a younf male in our home now, and he is the same as other puppies: loving, frisky and happy!
We have a pitbull in our family, We still get looks out in public places , people want to know how we could have him with our small boys. I hope there comes a day soon where people realize that in your average home these dogs are as friendly, loving and affecionate as your typical golden retriever. We love our boy 'BLUE' and would't trade him for the world.
