I have known 8 pitbulls all companions to freinds of mine. The one things that stands out in my mind about this breed is that all they want to do is kiss you and sit on your lap. Yes, you heard right, sit on your lap.
Raise your pit as you would a well-trained lap dog and you'll have the best dog ever! We have a 5 year old male and our parents have one of his puppies and we all agree they are the most affectionate, loyal, intelligent dogs we've ever had. We will never give a puppy to someone who wants to keep them primarily outdoors, as they are very social animals. If you are a responsible pet owner who wants a medium-sized, short hair, low maintenance dog that will love you for the rest of its life, this is the breed for you!
I have never spoken to anyone who is a dog lover, or an APBT owner, that has not had good things to say about this breed, and/or related breeds. I think this says a lot about why this breed needs this positive press.
When these animals are shown love, they give love. They are no different from you and me when it comes to that.
My mother has two pitbulls and they are well trained and very intelligent animals. Because of proper love and training they are fantastic dogs. They have never attacked, bit or been any more agressive than any other dog we've had (Shepard and Retriever).
My daughter has a pit bull and 2 pit bull mixes and they are so loving and adorable which is why I am now fostering a purebred pit bull. He is a very gentle and loving companion. I also have a pomeranian. SHE is the agressor of the two!
I have a pit bull and two pit mixes. They are very loving and devoted dogs. I also volunteer with an animal rescue group and have had many positive interactions with this breed. I think they are beautiful dogs and wonderful companions.
I have 2 pits, my Grandmother grew up with pits, my Great Grandmother owned pits. Not one of these were "evil attack dogs" but they are accused of being just that. Where is the voice for these loving dogs?? The news media needs to step up and show both sides to the story!
Great dogs that have gotten a bad rap thanks to human interventions and greed. I work in animal welfare, and many ex-fighting dogs are the sweetest, most forgiving dogs. They are the true victims.
Pitbulls have been here for a long time
I wonder why all of a sudden their a danger?I wonder if it is the mean people in this world.I have two grand-dogs that are pitbulls and I love them both.I babysit them often.they are the sweetest dog Ive ever met.
I would love to see a POSITIVE news segment done on these wonderful animals. It seems people too readily agree with what they see in the news these days - so show them the truth!
Pitbulls are very good animals, I would like to see a positive side exposed to the public. This will make them better informed and not jump to conclussions.
As someone who works for a humane association it is heartbreaking to see what people have and will do to pit bulls. All dogs will bite and have the potential to be mean. It is the breeding and inhumane individuals who have ruined the reputation of a great breed.
I have a deep love for this breed and I hate to see what irresponsible ownership has done for the reputation of this breed. What was one our proud nation's mascot is now being banned and ridiculed. Shameful!
pit bulls have been family companions for untold years.gsd's and labs are statistically more severe biters as shown in a 7 year study.punish the deed, not the breed!!
We have a pitbull, and he is the most caring dog I've ever seen. He is sooo gentle. I get so tired of people being amazed that we wanted him! It's the owners who are bad not the dogs!!
Remember Spanky and Our Gang comedies? Their dog was a bull. For quite a while, pitters were the pet of choice for families because of their loyalty and gentleness with children. It's only been since people have been breeding these dogs to be fighters that there has been a problem. Get rid of dog fighting and bad breeders. Don't blame it on the dogs!
Pitbulls and other races so called killers are not born killers unless humans train them to it.
Humas are the killer5s and not the animals that do everything to please the owner!
This is great what yall are doin about FOX. Whenever there is news that puts a bad image on Pit Bulls, they make sure that they audience knows that it was a "dangerous and vicious" American Pit Bull Terrior. However, when ever news about dog abuse come on, we are lucky to hear them say that is was a Pit Bull at least once!! It's crazy the way they like to judge something without really getting to know it! Maybe this will change their minds!!!!
I have a pit bull and am frustrated about the bad wrap they are getting in the press. They are intelligent, docile and loyal creatures. They should penalize anyone who uses this breed for anything other than a family pet!
I have a pit bull and she is the most tolerant animal with children I have ever seen. My grandchildren have crawled over her, pulled her ears, put stuff in her mouth, and tried to ride her. She has NEVER shown an ounce of aggression with them or anyone else.
I once owned a PitBull and I thought that that was the best dog I've ever ha and so easy to train him! I Trained him myself and he loved kids so much that when he saw one he had to be petted or play with a little bit! He never bit anyone! I had a Golden Retreiver before him and I say that My PitBull was more trainable and intelligent then the Golden....but Goldens are great too but I prefer the PitBull! It was as if he was kind of a person because when I spoke to him it was as if he could understand every word! Like when I went to my neighbor I brought him with me and he was 3 months old....When it was time to go I looked at my dog and he wasn't moving and the neighbor was always calling him to stay but when i asked my dog "Are you staying reject or are you coming?"
Every time I asked that question he always came running to me and coming home...and he was always the first to arrive!!
I had to give him away because Dogs weren't allowed in the appartment..only cats! I loved that dog...so I gave it to someone I knew! I still see him sometimes and he is Still so intelligent!
He still loves kids!
If you want to do a good story about pits, you can use my two. One is an athlete and performs and the other works with babies age 0-3 helping them learn to talk. There are some great hard working pitties out and about.
This is a must! People need to be made aware that these dogs are the most loyal and caring breed that I have ever been around. As with any other breed, the owner must understand the behavioral characteristics of their dog and work within them when training and socializing. Our society empathises with the criminal child that behaves dangerously among others. Unknowingly these "Problem Pitt Bulls" are from the same homes, where the lack of parenting has bread dangerous situations for children so too has it bread dangerous situations for dogs to thrive. Many times, the mistreatment and malnourishment of these animals have been devoted to using the dogs natural born loyalty and desire to please as a catalyst for household income. Please helpo us to portray the truth about these loving and caring animals in a light that will help people to nderstand and respect them for what they are.
Our neighbors have a Pit Bull as nice as can be. Before someone indicates that a certain breed is bad, perhaps it would wiser to check into the pet owners prior to allowing pet ownership to see if the breed is getting love and attention and whether the pet owner is capable of loving & training a pet. Same as a child, your pet needs love and attention and is anxious to please.
After owning a Pit Bull for 9.5 years, until he died, I dedicated over three years of my life to making pictures of Pit Bulldogs and their people. My book, AMERICAN PITBULL (www.pitbullbook.com), portrays people from many corners of our country, and many different backgrounds, who have devoted their lives to the great APBT breed. The deep culture of these dogs is unlike any other, and is evident in the diversity of the fancy. Public opinion has for far too long been shaped by negative mainstream media portrayal. When correctly bred and raised, the APBT is a strong, loving and enthusiastic, loyal, obedient, and human-friendly breed of dog.
I had a female and she raised a litter of kittens as her own. I bottle fed them after the mother cat got hit by a car , but when they could feed themselves . my pit slept with them and protected them as her own. she was 2 at the time
If you raise a dog to be around kids and be around other people then its going to be a family dog. If you teach a dog to fight then its going to be a fighter. If you teach a dog to protect you, your home, and your family, then its going to be a guard dog. Its all about a dogs upbringing that makes them the way they are. And that goes back to the owner NOT the dog! They only know what we teach them. Its not fare to blame the breed on the way that the owner raises them. They cant go out there and learn on their own whats right and wrong. I have a pitbull and she is the best family dog and the next one will be just as good b/c thats how I will raise her....
The pitbull is the greatest and oldest dog know to man. I would never own another type of dog. I have 15 pitbulls and are all raised around children and none are aggressive. The pitbull bans are stupid and aa need to be revoked. In my opinion a chow or german shepherd are more dangerous.
I own a lab/pit mix when we got him he was previously abused we have had for 8 years now and he is the most loving and loyal dog anyone could ask for I agree its all how they are raised
i have had 4 pit bulls and every one of them was loving and affectionate--all were big weenies!! i will never own another breed. all of this talk that pit bulls are bad dogs is hogwash. its all in the owner.
I am an animal control officer and founder of a no kill shelter. I feel that Pit bulls are recieveing a bad rap. The few that are being used by drug dealers and gangs and for fightinging give the breed a bad reputation. We recently placed onr of the loveliest pits you culd ever ask for and he is an absolute gem. Don't blame the dogs for the ignorant owners.
I have started my own animal rescue because of a pit bull. She was found in a ditch and thought dead. My friend brought her to me emaciated and covered in scabs from demodectic mange. As Danielle said, it amazes me everyday how loving she can be with all she went thru. Pits are wonderful with children and people. They just want to be loved!!
I work at an animal shelter that doesn't euthanize to make space. I've always loved pit bulls since my dad first adopted one when I was a kid. Now working in a shelter I've met a few pits that were treated poorly, and the fact that they can still be so loving after what they'd been through makes me love the breed even more.
I'm the president of a small animal rescue and a proud Pit Bull parent. As a rule, Pits are intelligent, loyal, agile animals with more love to give than many people I know. And, as with people, when treated poorly they show it. Even the most abused Pit can be taught to trust again by a RESPONSIBLE, PROFESSIONAL trainer. Most of the aggression touted on TV comes from those dogs who fall through the cracks and end up in the wrong hands . . . fighters, breeders, whoever. With some public education and owner accountability, Pit Bulls can once again be an American symbol of pride and strength.
It's about responsible pet ownership and behavior...as they say, punish the deed and not the breed. It's amazing to me how crimes against animals...by HUMANS who should know better...are not punished under the same vigor the animals under the care of humans are punished. There should be a segment on dog fighting, bait dogs, improper and unethical treatment of these dogs.
It's about owner responsibility, and all of the responsible owners deserve a chance to be herd! Properly bred, and raised, the American Pit Bull Terrier is a wonderful family dog. I know, I have three APBT's, one cat, and two children.
I think all dogs should be judged on their behavior not on their breed. I have a rottweiler and she is one of the sweetest dogs you have ever met. My mail carrier loves her and a cable repairman stops by and plays with her. Meter readers can easily enter my yard when she is out. This breed is often judged to be aggressive just like pitbulls but because I was a responsible caring owner just like many pitbull owners she is well behaved and gentle. Let's stop blaming the breed and put the blame where it belongs on the bad breeders and bad owners.
Pitbulls are great dogs. Mine is a pet therapy dog. Unfortunately they are often abused and are being overbred by punks for the wrong reasons. www.pbrc.net is the best resource for pitbull fans.
I don't know why everyone has a problem with pitbulls.I owned 2 pitbulls and thanks to the people that were stupid in my town and not wanting to give the dogs a chance on their own regards by seeing the true nature of the dogs loyalty to their owner,i had to give my pitbulls away, and it was hard to do cuz they were like my kids and it was like i was loosing my kid cuz of someones stupidity on not giving something in life a chance to prove its-self to the person wondering how they are for real.I am good freinds with a guy in my town that breeds pitbulls with his 3 yr old son (josh Brown) and him and his son love the dogs as well as me and as far as im concerned there needs to be more people in this life that give things in life like a pitbull a chance to show their loyalty and to be understand for a trully great family pet if raised to be.have a clue people a chihuahua can be mean too,are we going to be dising the breed cuz of what 1 dog in the bunch acts like,i dont think so,so why the hell are we doing it to the pitbulls
I have a pit bull and he is the best, most gentle dog ever. I have rescued several other pitbulls and have never had a problem with them. They are smart, sensitive, loyal dogs who have a bad reputation because of bad people -- they are NOT bad dogs!
Stand up for them now because if you wait it may be to late and this fight for APBT is a fight for all dog owners because eventually it will effectall breeds for one reason or another.
Any dog can be made to be mean... all it takes is abuse and neglect. Pits are just specially chosen because of their amazing physique and strength, and now because of their reputation. Should we continue to let these wonderful creatures be blamed for what is really done to them? Please help in educating the public.
I have owned pitbulls since i was 15 and never had a problem with them they are very protective and loyal dogs probably smarter than any other breed out there. They can do everything any other dog can due and better at it.
hi,we own a staff pit mix and a red nosed american pit.both of our dogs are very loving family dogs.neither has ever showed a sign of aggresion.our staff thinks he is a lap dog even though he weighs 70lbs.our neighbors were scared of our dogs until they got to know them.i try to educate others that its all how they are treated.they are very loyal loving dogs.some people think they are mean when all they are doing is protecting there family from intruders.if they ban pitbulls from being loyal to there family whats next, ancle bitting poodles??thanks for giving us a chance to protect our loving pets.
I own 2 pitbulls that live with a bunch of cats. They a the most intelligent dogs I've ever owned and I HATE when I hear people say terrible things about them. I've told people over and over again that it's all in the way you raise them. If you raise them like family, they believe they're family. Tie them to a tree outside for their entire life and ANY DOG starts hating life.
Unfortunately, people are greatly influenced by the media. Please use this influence to create a positive image of the American Pit Bull Terrier. Portray them for the amazing dogs that they are.
Not all pitbulls are evil killers. I've owned a few and have one now. Yes, they need firm handling but so do many other breeds. Unfortunately, the dregs of society have chosen the pitbull as their mascots. They mistreat them, make them mean and agressive and then wonder why they bite. Our pitbulls have been the most wonderful pet - very affectionate and loving. When our firt pittie died, we were devistated and our hearts were broken. Pitbulls need positive media attention
Let's educate the American Public and the Legislators who are so quick to judge the dogs we love and condemn them with insufficient evidence, or no evidence at all! Let's give them facts, not rumors and fiction!!
Of the many pitts that frequent the dog park I go to, very few get me worried for my Miniature Schnauzer's safety. And 99.9% of the time, the owners mismanagement if their dog (and that includes anything from purposefully training them to be mean to just plain lazy owners is the main reason for those that I do worry about.
