Punish the deed, not the breed. All the pit bulls I've ever rescued have been friendlier and sweeter than any other breed I've ever come into contact with.
It's all about how you train any breed dog. It's not JUST this kind of dog. Most of these dogs are very loving animals but nobody sees the good.. they see the bad. It's the owners fault.
I recently got a Pitbull puppy and was pretty scared at first because I have heard such bad things about them. I know now though that with the right love and a GOOD home....my Pitbull Puppy is going to stay nice and sweet. He loves to cuddle and loves to give kisses!!
There is too much misinformation on this breed and this has led to many problems for the breed. It would be wonderful if a big name like Fox news could help improve the bad reputation that they have.
Judge the deed not the breed. It's not bad dogs (majority of the time) but bad owners. Unfortunately these dogs are owned by many people that aren't responsible or capable of owning a pit.
All of the Pits that I have come in contact with have had more character than most other dogs. They are loving and crave attention. They are the mushiest dogs I've met.
It's a shame such a wonderful breed gets such a bad rap because of irresponsible and crazy owners who do horrible things to these poor dogs like put gunpowder in their food as puppies and replace teeth with razor blades! The American Kennel Association has done studies showing that pit bulls are more personable and easy going when meeting people than 95% of the other breeds out there. They are sweethearts and ranked higher than retrievers and labs in this socialization study. Yes, please FOX expose these horrible owners who have allowed this poor dog to get such a bad reputation. As a result of these awful PEOPLE, these poor dogs stand very little chance when they go to a shelter. Every pit bull I've ever met whose been raised in a healthy way, has been one of the nicest dogs I've ever met.
I have rescued three pitbulls, and not one has ever harmed me or my greyhounds. They love humans, and if they are not bred to fight, they get along with other dogs. It's time to stop the madness surrounding the mistruths and to promote the goodness of this breed. You can read the last two issues of Best Friends magazines. It's the humans, NOT the pitbulls, who are the problem. And that's a fact.
i have a beautiful 3 yr old pitbull and i wouldent trade her for anything in the world and i happen to work for a animal shelter and its sad that these dogs get put to death in some places just because of its breed people need to educate them selves on the breed and give them a chance even the most vicious pitbulls can turn out to be a mush once you show them some love.also i think its very ignorent of the news papers and television stations to bash the breed like they do, only when a pitbull attacks do they make a big deal very rarly do u see any other breed get bashed the way pitbulls do why??? can some body answer that ?
My cat and my 19 year old German Shepherd are still alive. The pitbull that has lived with them for the past 6 years has NEVER attacked them. Backyard breeders are a serious problem, not family pets.
THE ONLY "MEAN" PITBULLS COME FROM THEIR "MEAN" OWNERS WHO ARE NOTHING MORE THAN INHUMANE THEMSELVES. IF YOU SHOW LOVE AND CARING, YOU GET LOVE AND CRING IN RETURN. I HAVEN'T MET A "MEAN" OR NASTY PITBULL YET,AND I'VE MET QUITE A FEW. I GUESS IT ALL HAS TO DO WITH HOW THEY ARE RAISED AND WHO RAISES THEM
We must judge each dog individually and not by the breed. I have a 2 1/2 yr old pitbull who is an absolute sweetheart. He plays well with small children and lives with 2 cats. He is loving and loyal.
I think bullies are a wonderful breed. I didn't know much except for the "bad" stuff. Then my son brought home this sweet, loving puppy.
My whole outlook on the breed has changed and I am always speaking how great these dogs are.
As an animal shelter volunteer for many years, I can tell you first hand, pits are wonderful! They are the sweetest most beautiful dogs. What characters they are. I am and will always be dedicated to showing people what loves these dogs really are. I cannot say enough about them. Ban the deed, not the breed. Stupid people shouldn't own pets of any kind- pits or any other. Animals are not disposable and should be treated with love and respect, as all creatures should. I gladly sign this petition.
I THINK THAT THIS IS JUST ANOTHER FORM OF HATE, YOU CANT BLAME SPMETHING OR SOME ONE FOR SOMETHING THEY WERE TAUGHT TO DO, THATS LIKE PUNNISHING A BABY BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS TAUGHT THEM TO WALK COME ON LETS BE REAL ANIMALS HAVE FEELINGS TOO THEY ARE NOT JUS SOMETHING FOR HUMANS TO DECIDE THEY CANT BE IN A CERTAIN PLACE, EVERYTHING SHOULD BE TREATED EQUALLY , EVEN DOGS!
ITS A SHAME WHEN A PERSON CANT EVEN PICK THEIR PET OF CHOICE IN THIS DAY IN TIME PITS ARE NOT JUS ANIMALS THEY ARE MOST OWNERS FRIENDS, PART OF FAMILY !!!
THESE DAMN NEWS PEOPLE NEED TO GET A LIFE AN REPORT SOME REAL NEWS, WE NEED TO BE BANNING KILLERS AN RAPEST FROM NEIGHBORHOODS INSTEAD OF DOGS!!!!!
I THINK THE MEDIA ALWAYS TAKES THINGS WAY OUTTA PROPORTION, ABOUT EVERYTHING! PITS ARE VERY FUN LOVING ANIMALS AN WOULNDT HURT ANY THING IF TRAINED WELL
Banning certain breeds of dogs is very similar to our horrible past of banning certain breeds of humans from some cultures. There is nothing wrong with any breed of dog, only with the owners. I think we would be better served by requiring potential dog owners to attend dog-raising classes to ensure that the owner meets the minimum requirements.
i think that they are only telling the negitive side of pitbulls i have 30 pits an never ever been bit or growled at ! if u dont feed , abuse or teach them to be mean they will be just like any dog!!!!
We currently own 2 pitbulls, ages 3 years and 7 months. They are absolulely fabulous! We got both of them from rescues. This breed is grossly mistreated. The people who train these dogs to fight should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
I have owned 5 pitbulls and 4 were rescued from the pound. All were awesome dogs and I never had a problem with them. If you baby them and treat them good they are one of the most loyal dogs out there
I live in Ohio where the law states that pit bulls are vicious dogs. Because of this many wonderful dogs who happen to be pit bulls are killed for no reason other than they are the "wrong" breed - when the truth is there is nothing wrong with the breed but there is something very wrong with the people who work to turn a dog, pit bull or otherwise, into a fighting dog that is capable of killing another animal or a human. The laws need to be changed to put the responsibility where it belongs - on the vicious owners who create vicious dogs. I'd love to see a ban on vicious pit bull owners and an end to the fiction that these dogs are inherently vicious.
PITBULLS IF TRAINED BY NORMAL PEOPLE ARE GREAT FAMILY PETS AS WITH ANY BREED THEY NEED TO BE TRAINED,TO DO WRONG,AND PEOPLE HAVE TRAINED SOME OF THEM WRONG THOSE PEOPLE SHOULD BE PUNISHED
I think people should not judge Pit Bulls by their look or breed but by their owner. If only people would do that more of us would have Pit Bulls and they are really playful and caring.
After getting a job in an animal shelter I never realized that pitbulls were supposed to be bad pets until I heard the concerns of the public. That's when I realized how misinformed that "the public" is.
Not all Pits fit the stereotype of being mean, it's how a dog is raised that determines it's personality. That goes for all dogs, and any dog with bad owners can grow up to be mean.
There's no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners.
Just like human children are taught and learn bad behaviours, dogs are the same.
Ban irresponsible owners not innocent animals.
It is unfair for people to blame a whole breed of wonderful dogs for the stupidity for some dumb people who thought it would be cool or whatever to train their dogs to be bad. Any dog can be bad, if taught to behave that way. The dog does not get to choose what it is taught. It is time that someone let everyone know that pit bulls are not bad dogs.
ive never really had an opinion on pit bulls before in england it was a breed rarely spoke about and now i have one i think they are adorable with such character and mine has such a lovely calm friendly temperament
I totally agree that it is time for the media to show the positive side of pitbulls instead of always showing the negative stories of the pitbulls that have been abused and taught to fight by their owners. The owners are the ones who are responsible for the actions of these poor animals. They are wonderful when treated like a member of the family as they should be! My neighbor has a pitbull and she is the sweetest dog in the world! The only bad dogs of any breed are those that have been abused by humans!
I have been rescuing Pit Bull for almost 30 years. In all my encounters with them, I have only found ONE that I recommended putting down. Unfortunately, this was not the fault of the dog but rather the breeder who obviously was inter breeding his pack to the point of producing idiots.
As you know, that can also happen in humans!
The "well" bred pit bull is NOT aggressive by nature. As with any other breed, they are taught to be this way by very irresponsible and inhumane humans.
I currently have a Pit Bull in my home with 3 other dogs, plus "2" foster dogs from our local shelter. I also havew 3 cats as well. This shelter is a well know "KILL" facility when it comes to Pit's. Do you honestly believe that they would allow me to foster their dogs if they didn't know how well behaved and gentle my Ginger is???
Let's try to tell the REAL story and put the blame where it goes .... the owners. Let's work for better and stronger laws against the owners instead of the dogs.
Thank you.
Respectfully submitted.
Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without a doubt the best deal man has ever made. ~Roger Caras
Monsters are made from men.
I have friends who have pit bulls, and it has been my experience that they are very lovable animals. The aggressive pit bulls that I have seen have been either handled agressively, or ignored altogether. Just like any other breed, a dog that is treated this way will act in kind.
The public needs to know the truth about this breed and the truth about dog bites. Pits are not the top breed to bite. Most cases of dog bites and attacks are also done by unaltered animals. Many of the dogs have been outside dogs as well. Getting the facts are what will educate our community on aggressive dogs. Don't discriminate on one breed from reports from people who have none to little dog knowledge. Most people who fear pit bulls have never actually met one they just go by gossip that the breed is horrible.
ONE OF OUR GOOD FRIENDS HAVE A PITBULL AND HE IS THE MOST GENTLE ANIMAL I HAVE ME. i BELIEVE YOU SHUD DO A SEGMENT ON THIS ANIMAL TO SHOW THAT THEYARE A GENTLE ANIMAL AND THOSE VICOUS ONES IN THE NEWS HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO BE VICIOUS!
I've had nothing but great experiences with my pit bull. I have had many other breeds over the years and they have all shown the same tendancies as a result of their environment, nothin but love!
I have been fascinated with the American Pitbull terrier breed for many years but was never able to get one as a child because of the bad plablicity they recieved. My first time seeing a pitbull was on the cover of Time magazine, a snarling monster was on the cover and I couldn't understand why anyone would want this type of animal in their home. I purchased my very first pitbull 5yrs ago and I have never had a more loving pet my 28yrs on this earth. My dog has never barked, snapped, growled, or shown any agressive behavior ever. Just recently my apt complex tried to ban pitbulls stating that they were to aggressive to live in a community with chidren, the other day the apt complex had a free dog wash and pizza for the kids, people brought their dogs and kids to enjoy the festivities and about 10 fights broke out do to people not being able to control their pets and amongst all this caois my dog was not interested in any of this foolish behavior, people were actually shocked at the way he behaved. The american pitull terrier is one of the most reputable breeds alive today and the way they are portrayed is awful and I feel the media should show both sides of the story because not all owners fight their dogs. My pitbull is my pet and my best friend he sleeps on covers, loves to play catch with my son, and likes belly rubs, sounds like a real monster doesn't he.
I have never met a mean pit bull in my life, and my city has so many of them. I don't understand why this wonderful breed is being banned in many cities. Any dog (including Labs, Cockers, Chihuahuas, etc) can bite, and that's a proven fact. If you correctly raise the dog and get it from a reputable breeder, like with any breed of dog, the pitbull will make a loyal and wonderful companion.
I have a pit bull mix, and know several people with pit bulls. They are wonderful dogs, and its time the world knew the real truth about these special animals.
The media, as well as, bad owners have damaged the reputation of this wonderful breed of dog almost irrerepairably. This is a breed of dog that was once America's poster dog for WW1, representing strength, pride, and loyalty. It is time for the media and the public to give something back to the American Pitbull Terrier...a chance. Our condemnation should be for the bad people who create bad dogs, because if it were not for the APBT, these same people will move on and choose another breed of dog to ruin. Maybe your favorite breed?
anydogcan be a mean dog!it'sall in how you raise them!! pit bulls are very kind and loving dogs just like any other breed can be!! it is unfair to judge them by the monsters who raise them to be mean and fight because it could be any other breed of dog as well!! cruel people make cruel dogs!!!!!!!
