If you are going to use the words "pitbull" and "breed" in the same sentence, please educate yourself. The term pitbull encompasses more than one true AKC breed. Also, many dogs look like pitbulls, are marketed as such, get labeled by their owners and caregivers as such, and then a nearly indelible record is created that a dog is pitbull when the dog may not be such. The number of dogs labeled as pitbulls is thereby likely overstated, as is the "pitbull menace." And that ain't all . . .
Animal Planet bashes pitbulls on there frequently. They show supposed animal experts making statements that pitbulls have something wrong w/there brains that make them snap. They also show animal police in cities w/pitbull bans.
The problem here is not the breed, it is the ignorance of the general population. Pit bulls deserve to be shown in thier true and positive light. Just because some people are cruel doesn't mean the dog is. I am a vet's assistant and long time dog owner and lover and am a huge fan of these dogs and I firmly believe it is past time to educate the misinformed.
Your Pit can only represent you and your ability to teach it to love and show him or her love. Its the humnas that need the breed legislation. Take a look at what it takes to make a pitbull mean! Dogs just like humans aren't born mean , this is something that is unfortunately taught by uneducated and disgusting people!
It's the old saw -- there are no bad dogs just bad owners. Pit bulls are perfect example of good dogs trained to do bad things. The dog is only trying to please it's human/alpha.
I was apprehensive when we got our APBT, but she is the best dog we've had. The combination of her breeding, training and environment have given her an exceptional temperment with dogs, kids, & adults
The problem are dog owners, NOT the BREED of the dog. Dogs rely solely on body languaage to communicate and when humans ignore this, that's when we have problems! There is no way to ever teach a dog to speak human language. So rather than punish the dogs, I think ALL responsible and loving dog owners would gladly be educated and lisenced for the sake of their dogs! Instead of having them banned or muzzled, or what have you, we should also educate the public on what dogs are and are not. Just like how we educate our children to stay safe and how to deal with strangers. You can't keep your children safe by locking up POTENTIAL strangers. That just doesn't make sense!
I own 10 pitbulls and all my dogs are well trained and obidiant. Pitbulls are one of the smartest dogs around and by far the most beautiful dogs that ever walked the face of this planet
I have had several breeds, done showing and training. Lots of Animal Science dgree work and a PSychology degree from Iowas State U and am currently a therapist. Pitbulls have long been VERY popular in the US and elsewhere. This is NOT solely a product of the macho stigma often attached...then why??? I would be delighted to show you. I have 7 currently. 3 are full-time housedogs, the other 4 visit inside on a regular basis. On female is titled in obedience, protection AND will titling as a therapy dog this winter. ABSOLUTELY safe with children and welcome guests... You see; very few individuals of any other breed are this stable and well-rounded. The correctly-bred APBT has AMAZING versatility, intelligence, devotion AND courage. In the interest of responsible journalism, this side should also be presented to the public. Please help us shoe "truth" AND clarify -to stamp out!- irresponsible breeders and owners! Feel free to contact me...

There is no such thing as a bad dog, however, there IS such a thing as a bad owner. Any dog will attack if trained to do so. Pit Bulls are beautiful animals. An animal is just that...an animal. If trained properly, there is no problem.
yes, lets do this!PUNISH THE DEED,NOT THE BREED!!! Just like they say 'GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE,PEOPLE DO!!!'And certin "PEOPLE" should never own a pitbuul,or any dog.I have owned pitbulls for @ 18yrs now & this is the one breed the I fully trust to protect & babysit my kids.(YES I SAID BABYSIT-for those uneducated on the breed!!!!)So let's do the damn thang and save "MAN,WOMAN&CHILD'S-BEST FRIEND"
I think there was a time when doberman pinchers aroused the same fears as pitbulls do today. All too often animals get the blame for ignorant, unfit "parents."
Well to let you kmow I do not know who the individual is that is saying "KILL ALL DOGS." They are a FREAK. Enough said on that. My Pitbill love any one that come over and gives her attention. Even strangers. My joke is that she will lick the robber to death and then close the door behind them when they live the house after robbing me. So tell me that this is a dog that is a harmful one. Ever Pit that I have known is loving and gental. So, you might want to evaluate the breed you own or get to know other breeds before talking bad about a breed of dog. PIT BULLS are the only way to go. That is the only dog that I will own as well. But for those individuals that fight this dog. They need to be put down just like they do the dog. Put them out of their missory as well.
I know someone that breeds pitbulls & they are the nicest, sweetest dogs. The person that beeds them has a young daughter & does not fear her being around the dogs. People have to understand a pet is only as well-mannered as it is trained. Also, people have to know that pitbulls, as well as most dogs, can sense fear. People fear pitbulls because there is never any good stories about them in the media.
I am a responsible owner of two beautiful American Pit Bull Terriers.. I have owned many dogs before, but never has a breed been so willing to be a part of the family. My dogs, as well as the majority of APBTs, are wonderful, well behaved, trained dogs... They respond extremely well to obedience training. My dogs are my best friends. It is so unfair the stereotype on these gorgeous creatures brought upon by the hysterical media due to a handful of irresponsible people. It is in thesae dogs' nature to be family oriented, protective of children, it is the nurture by bad men when they become misunderstood. Please clear up the negative stigma that plagues vthese innocent animals.
I am simultaneousely a loyal FOX News Channel viewer, and pit-bull lover. I currently own a few pit-bulls and my 1 year old daughter loves to go out and help me take care of them daily. None of the ones I have now, or have had in the past have ever shown a single sign of human aggression. They do bark at oppossums and squirrels and the like, but what dog really doesn't. Please, in the nature of "Fair and Balanced" news coverage, run a segment on the "Up side of a downed breed". These truly are great loving dogs and are the #1 breed in the nation in terms of populous ownership.
Pitbulls are loving dogs. If you raise and cocker spaniel to be nasty it will. If you raise a Chiuauha to be nasty it will. It is all in how you raise these dogs. It is not their fault that their owner has anger or violence problems. These dogs are wonderful dogs if you just show them the love that they deserve.
I have had my pit bull for several years now, and could not have asked for more. She is my best friend. She is more than I ever expected out of a pet.
She is around children, and other household pets and has never shown aggression. She loves to be loved, & snuggled.
I have had my share of conversations about the controversy of the breed. It is the first thing people want to talk about when the see my dog. I think it is silly, how can you judge a animal you don't know and aren't around? Why because there are one to many idiots out there that train these poor animals to be killers. You can do that with any dog.
As for Killer, are you that lazy that all you can write is;
KILL ALL DOGS KILL ALL DOGS KILL ALL DOGS KILL ALL DOGS KILL ALL DOGS KILL ALL DOGS KILL ALL DOGS KILL ALL DOGS KILL ALL DOGS KILL ALL DOGS.
What a classy individual you must be.
I have raised a Pit Bull, and now on my second, who have has ALWAYS been the dog everybody wants to take home. My older pit has been subject to being around my children when they were little and mishevious, when they would do ALL types of things to him, and he NEVER showed ANY aggressions. Many of my friends who are TERRIFIED of this breed, have come to my home and had a turn. They have ALL tried to convince me to take my dog home, due to his sweet, loving, yet strong nature. Please look at the owners, not the breed.
Pit bulls are loving dogs, they should not get blamed for what there owners make them be. Any body can make ANY dog a mean dog but people stick the negatives with the pits because there ignorant and just plane don't know anything and are just going by a few stories that they have heard.
I have a pit. I think she is the most beautiful, sweet, and loving dog I or anyone could ever have. She is a great protector, and I believe that she would never hurt anyone unless she felt that her family was in danger. but that is what anyone would fell if some one they loved was in danger, human or dog. i have read other comments that the others on this site have wrote and agree with most, it is how they are trained and loved. people need to think when getting a dog it is like a child, needs all the love you can give, and they will give back so much more.
i have had a bad experience with a pitbull that attacked my lab at the jugular...i was able to get it off of my dog fast enough, with out harm. i do beleive however, that these dogs are bred to be vicious. this is sad. when i adopted my other lab from the pound, out of 40 dogs, 30 were pitbulls. this is unacceptable. people need to become more responsible! all dogs can be trained to be loving! all animals need TIME spent with them to learn good behavior!
I have come across several Pit Bulls in my life and have yet to meet a vicious dog. Pits are not naturally aggressive, but sometimes turn out that way as a result of bad owners. Don't ban the breed, ban the bad owners.
Ask any veterinarian or breeder. Dogs are not born "visicious". If they are, it is dues to a health reason, not temperment. Pit bulls are no exception. Some are TAUGHT to be aggressive. I know people who have them for pets. These dogs are around young children all day. The dogs are loving members of the family!
People need to educate themselves and get all the facts.
i love my dogs and have never known them to be aggressive towards my boys or even my cats , please the media has a way to blow things out of praportion , lets all think with a clear mind and not be racist and to ban one single breed is to point it out and label it as such....thats racist ....isnt it? is this what amrica is about??? fox 5 you folks need to set the record straight , if not this breed will be killed and banned for racist reasons , pit bull terriers are a hero breed of noble dog , please save them.
Pit Bulls are one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs I have ever had the priviledge of knowing. They have more feelings than your everyday person. This superb creature will do anything for you, including risk its own life to protect its loved ones. Would you DIE for your best friend?
No questions asked? No strings attached?
Who is the better person?....
i have had pits for many years and they have been raised with my children, who are getting active in showing them. they are the kindest, most loyal dogs that were ever bred.
I live in a small town and i still listen to everyone talk about how i can have pitbulls with a small child. Honestly i would rather have pits than a small dog...they are aswesome and so fun to love....Keep pits from hiding..Lets all show them to everyone
PITBULLS ARE THE BEST JUST BECAUSE BAD PEOPLE GET THERE HANDS ON THEM DOESNT MEAN THEY ARE MEAN TO ALL SAVE THE PITS! ANYWAY I LOVE PITBULLS IAM FROM METAIRIE EVERYBODY AROUND HERE LOVES MY DOG HES SO SWEET HES GOOD WIT CHILDREN AN EVERYTHING BAD APPLES FROM THE TREE ARENT GOOD ANYWAY ANYBODY WANNA WALK THERE DOG WITH ME EMAIL ME NO FAKE ADS PLEASE THANK YOU IAM APART OF THIS PROJECT ILL GO ON THE NEWS ABOUT IT TOO THANKS FOR THIS EXPRESSION ANYWAY "IAM GLAD GOD GAVE ME A GIFT THANK YOU JESUS YOUR ANIMALS RULE THANK YOU LATER IAM GHOST BACK TO CHATTING MY S/N ON YAHOO MESSANGER IS DIPLOMATROCKINICESTATUS HOLLA AT YA BOY
The media is too scared to say or learn the truth about anything. I wanted my first pit when I was age 8. I finaly got my first pit at age 18.In the last 11 years i have owned over 20 pits. I have a 4 year old daughter that loves this breed probably more than I do. I use my dogs to hunt, yes I catch with them. None "I MEAN NONE" of my dogs have EVER showed any agression towards her. However, my mom has a poodle that has bitten her, and my ex has a hot-dog that has bitten her. What the hell my dogs are trained and love to hunt? Whats a damn poodle or a hot-dog trained to do? Be a fucking lap dog, yet they bite. Isn't that something? I compete at trails with my dogs, at these competions there will be at least 100 pits trained to hunt and catch. However know one gets bitten, attacked, malled or whatever else people say. At some competions, people that have never even seen my dogs have to handle my dogs while they are doing what they love. (Again NO aggression).
It's the owner not the breed. So before you (the media) judge this breed learn the fucking facts. I hate lap dogs kill those worthless, dogs. Hell, they bit my little girl.
Don't judge unless your ready to be judged.
I work at an animal hospital and see many different breeds of dogs and I will say that of all the dogs the pitbull is one of the nicest breeds.Dogs are not born good or bad, they are a product of their environment. We, humans make them or break them.
Punish the deed, not the breed. Pit bulls aren't aggressive. They are just like any other dog, if you treat them right, they wont have to be aggressive. Irresponsible owners are to blame. A majority of pit bulls have passed the ATTS temperament test beating out border collies, german shepherds, greyhounds, chihuahuas, dalmations, english setters, miniature poodles, beagles, belgium sheephounds, dogs that you would call non-aggressive and safe. In shelters, many pit bull pass their temperament tests to see if they are eligible for adoption and they are still euthanized. It's just not right. On top of that, there are many people fighting to get them banned and killed. No offense, but the media is fucked up because they never show the positive side of pit bulls. They only show negative shit to get ratings. The positive side of pit bulls outweighs the negative. Mske up for what the media has caused and do a positive story on pit bulls. Be the first.
I have the prvaledge to work with this wonderful breed every day. I work in an animal shelter.Pits are one of the least aggressive breeds towards people to come through our doors.Sadley enough they are the ones most abused and neglected, and still the most forgiving. No matter how thin and chewed up they are all they care about is pleasing the human who put them there in the first place. How can we call them the killers when we allow this to happen to them.
My best friend is my best friend's pitbull.! He is a rescue and a total surprise to me, I didn't know about him untill I visited my friend one afternoon to find an injured, underweight, 1.5 year old at the end of my friends leash. It was obvious that this dog had survived more abuse than imagination permits, yet after an hour of courtious interaction he was upside down and on my lap. I hold a special place in my heart for the person(s) responsible for my best friend, the difference will be that you may understand why. It's time for our laws to change, our people to be held accountable, and for everyone to act responsibly and consider others pets included !!! GOD GAVE YOU A BRAIN - STOP USING IT FOR A SEAT CUSHION. IF YOU HAVE AN OPINION ABOUT A DOG D'JOUR LET'S HERE ABOUT YOUR RESEARCH AND SEE YOUR DOCUMENTATION OR STAY IN YOUR HOUSE AND KEEP QUIET SO THE REST OF US CAN LIVE FREE IN THE USA !!!!!
PitBulls are not aggressive. Just as any other breed, if you train them to be aggressive, neglect and abuse the breed they will have an aggressive temperment.
