I have never owned a pit, but I have owned a Doberman and they get the same rep in alot of ways. Its rediculous. Its like the saying that goes guns dont kill people, people kill people. Well its the same way with these dogs. It is the irrisponsible owners that giving these wonderful dogs bad names. I wish everyone would open thier eyes to what is really going on with these beautiful animals.
I have owned and raised Pit Bulls and been around them for many years. They are the sweetest dogs and they are the biggest babies. Its all in how they are raised just like any other breed.
My husband was the one that wanted an American Pit Bull and I said no...I then went to our breeder and got to see what loving dogs they are. We now have 7 adults and a new litter of puppies. We love our pets and enjoy greatly being able to show them in the UKC.
I have owned pitbulls since I was 15 I now am 45 I have owned at least 18 in my life time and I will never own another breed people sould blame the owners not the breed Instead of the goverment cracking down on the people that break the laws its much easier to say lets just get rid of the breed remember its not the gun that kills its the person thats holding it
My son brought our dog home ,I have to be honest I was scared in the begining because of everthing you hear. We already had one dog and 3 cats I had to put my older dog down he became very ill. Well need less to say my son moved out and I still have Gauge and he is my favorite. He is such a big old baby and would never hurt anyone.
I have only owned PitBulls since I've been 5. My family has always appreciated the loyalty to our family that these dogs provide. We always said....Scummy people, make scummy dogs"
I have a female that I saved from being killed at a city "shelter" in Boston. She is the most loving and affectionate dog I know. When I was a child I was bitten in the face by a dog, which left a scar on my face. This dog was a POODLE. This story did not make the "local news", how come. Only the poor pitbulls get shown on TV any time they bite. Its time all of us stood up in defense of the bias media that is against these dogs.
Its has been proven in counties like England and cities all over the US like Denver that BSL Does NOT work! We have been raising, showing, weight pulling APBTs for 6 years now and out of all the other breeds I've owned or been around, none match the loyality, intergirty and lovingness of the APBT
I am also a professional pet groomer and I can tell you that some of the so called "safer family" breeds like Shelties, Poodles, Shi Tzus and Golden Retrievers are more apt to bite (and will!)
Be Fair in your news reportings! Give equal time to Both sides of the story, not just the one that sells!
We here at monsterpitkennel.com breed, and train our dogs to be well socialized, so much so that my so called big naturally mean pitbulls allow my wifes fluff ball an american eskimo to steal table scaps from right out of their mouth LOL...if i could post pictures on here I'd post 1 of my wifes fluff ball standing on top of my female pitbull to get away from her 2 month old pups...
We own two a.p.b.t. and they are the most loving and loyal dogs any person could ever own. I make sure to take them with me as much in public as I can too let people know what great dogs they are. I also welcome any person in our home to see that they get along great with other dogs, cats and children as we have all of them. This breed needs everyone to back them up and to make a stand for them as they can not defend themselves. I have owned many breeds and no other compares to them. This breed needs to continue to prosper and people who own/breed this breed of dog also needs to educate people as much as they can. Any breed of dog can be nasty and if so usually because of how they are housed and treated. "Punish the deed not the breed" as many will say, they are misunderstood because people would rather blame the dog than take the time to put responsibility where it should lie and that would be the owner of the dog. Along with the fact that plainly blaming the dog and destroying the dog is a much easier and simpler solution than taking the time to investigate the owner. I love this breed and am very passionate about giving 100% support to anyone whom will try to make a stand against the people whom think this breed should disappear. They are loving, loyal and the very best breed I have ever owned. I made a promise to myself when getting my first apbt that I would always support and defend his reputation. I do that on a daily basis - how sad is that! They are not aggresive and make the most wonderful family dogs any person could ask for. Please help these innocent dogs!
we own and breed several a.p.b.t. and all of our dogs are socialized every day weather permiting they can all be seen together with us and our family at www.leftyskennel.com bad breeders are the real issue in any breed of dog..
i love pit bulls and wouldnt ever think about owning another breed , this is the best dog in the world , just misunderstood. please speak for the animals that cant speak for themselves , they just want to love and be loved. fox 5 please do something , thanks and god bless , not all pit bull owners are mean nasty people, we love our dogs and are the majority of us are this way , you get a few here and there and what you get is media hype..pleasee do something!!
We need to educate the public and let them know that these are good dogs, not evil monsters that the media wants them to believe. There are plenty of Pit Bull Heros in the world, look it up on the internet and I bet you will find about 50 different stories.
To whom ever receives these petitions at FOX. Please take a few minutes to read "Popular Dogs series", vol,21, titled "Bully Breeds". You may think that it will be filled with only the good thins about the breed but it is not. It is truthful about the breeds history and its presant condition. I could not write anything that factual as I have only been a Pit Bull owner for 6 months. I can tell you that my two puppies (5 1/2 & 4 1/2 months old) are smarter, more loyal, and more loving than any other breed of dog I have owned: Rotti, G. Shepard, Dachshund, Lab, and St. Bernards. God bless and be with you! Michael
Pitbull owners have to defend there position of owning and loving these misunderstood animals everyday. When they walk the dog, people either pass negative comments or they are scared. I have a story to share: One day I was walking my pit bull as usual at the park in the evening after work. We passed a man and his three children, the children were saying "HI PUPPY" and wanted to pet my dog. The father said oh no son that dog will kill you, that is a pittbull! This is an example of how we teach ignorance to our children. It is also an example of how important it is to educate the public about this breed. If we do not, it will only get worse, the stereoyping and anger, fear assocsiated with this beautiful breed.EDUCATION NOT LEGISLATION!!!!!!!!!!
I am the proud owner of a pitbull that I adopted from a shelter that takes in abused animals. Our companion animal is loving and kind despite the cruelty she has experienced at the hands of humans. Please help this loyal breed and the responsible owners out there by showing the public that all dogs can be agressive and scared if they are mistreated.
I would like to thank each and every person that took a moment out of their day, to speak the truth about a beautiful breed of dog known as THE PIT BULL. There are so many reasons I love this breed. One is because of it's undying loyalty to it's owner. The pitt is a clown always making people laugh. He is gentle and sweet. He is also the most sensitive creature I have ever met. Ignorant people are sad people. They will never open their little minds and think for themselves. Instead they will believe anything they hear, never expolring for the truth. It's time too punish animal abusers like they have never been punished before. It's because of those pathetic human beings that we even have to protect this breed. We are asking you FOX NEWS to please help us show the truth about these beautiful animals and expose the evil killers that are ruining this breed's name.Pitt Bulls are passionate and loving dogs !!!
I have owned several dogs from collies to pits.I have a german shepard,a shelltie and a pit.All these dogs are wonderfull animals.I knew little about pits when I got this one so we did lots of researh about them. The stories about them being an aggessive dog are in my experience entirely unfounded.Sammy is a gentle dog.He plays rough but is a big baby.My sheltie pushes him around like nothing.Any dog can be mean if mistreated.Don't be fooled by the media stories they are loveing, smart and gentle. If you mistreat them you get what you pay for.The same is true with ALL dogs.Give them love and you will get it back in spades.
Pitbulls are amazing family dogs if trained CORRECTLY and are allowed to live within the family, and not outside chained to a doghouse. They have an amazing capacity for love, and just want to give doggie kisses! The unfortunate ones that show aggression have only been shown to do so BY HUMANS as they only want to please their human. They are not naturally human aggressive! The rest of the world needs to know that.
I have owned numerous breeds of dogs but the Pit Bull is by far my favorite. I hope that this article shows the public the true identity of the pit bull, and seperate the American Pit Bull Terrier from all the imitators and let the public know what a pitbull actually is and why we love them so much.
I love my pitbulls. I'm only 15 and I want to be a Pitbull breeder when I get older. Pitbulls are very playful and loving. The only reason they get mean is when the owner makes them mean.
I am the owner of a very loving, playful APBT. I would love to see a news clip that shows the loving and stable temperment which the majority of APBT's have.
I have been training and breeding dogs for over 20 years and Pitbulls exclusivly for the past 13 plus. They are a magnificent breed of dogs. They are loving and caring and willing to do whatever their owner says. In the hands of a responsible person they are what is said to be GREAT Pets but in the wrong hands they can be made into bad dogs. But as a whole one or two dogs cannot make the whole bunch suffer, BAN the irresponsible owners and breeders who breed for the bad side of these animals and let us RESPONSIBLE owners and breeders enjoy our breed and show to the public who have false assumptions of the Pitbull that they are Man / Woman's BEST Friend!!!!!!!!
I am a responsible APBT owner and breeder. It is not the love for just the breed but the love and outgoingness that this breed has for themselves and their owners. They are intimidating by their looks and big heads and all but they are the best breed to own. And if you look the biting comes from other breeds it is just when a irresponsible owner's Pit bites it is made such a bigger scene. I have seen STandard poodles do some damage to a person and no one raced out to put that on the 6pm news but let a Pit attack anyone , shoot the President might announce it. Get to know this BREED and love them before you turn your back. Their are murderers who get chances, Please give them one also.....
I am a single mother of 7 children and I have raised pitbulls for 18 years. Currently I have 6 adults and 5 puppies. These dogs make excellent pets and even though they don't bite they look very intimidating. I have never had any that were aggressive towards people, children, or other animals. I would recommend a pit to anyone wanting a family pet, they are wonderful. Dogs are animals that really on us to teach them right from wrong and if you teach them wrong then you are to blame, not the dog.Anyway you should not punish the animal that is doing as it is commanded you should punish the person commanding it.
I loe my pit-she is friendly, plays well with others and is gentle with my cats and even helps clean my foster kittens. We als had her in a segment on local TV which used her to show that pits can be great pets!
People Please do not worry about what kind of dogs people have as pets as long as you are happy with the pet you have.Pits are wonderful animals and should be saved just like whales or any other animals.Thank you
as so many people do, we stereotype the things that we know nothing about. If only they could understand the breed,,they would know the truth. They are indeed the best dog I ever owned.
I HAVE OWNED PITBULLS MY WHOLE LIFE AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. THEY ARE THE BEST BREED IN THE WORLD, AND SHOULD NEVER BE BANED. PEOPLE SHOULD EDUACATE PEOPLE ABOUT THEM. NOT TAKE AWAY THE RIGHT TO OWN THEM. WE HAVE ENOUGH OF OUR FREEDOMS TAKEN AS IT IS; TO DENY US THE SIMPLE RIGHT TO OWN THE DOG OF OUR CHOICE IS HOG WASH SO THE HUMANE SOCIETIES SHOULD NOT TRY TO BAN THEM FOR THERE DOG OF CHOICE MITE BE NEXT!!!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND KEEP FIGHTING FOR THE BEST BREED IN THE WORLD
Why is more attention and animosity directed at the dogs than the dog fighters? Pit bulls were given that moniker by people who breed them, horribly abuse them to prepare them to fight, and then often torture them to death if they refuse to fight or lose a fight. People are responsible for all of this! We must hold them accountable
and not blame the dogs.
I HAVE A FEW PITBULLS AND MY GRANDKIDS ARE OUT IN THE BACK YARD WITH THEM MOST OF DAY AND NOT ONCE HAVE THEY CAME IN THE HOUSE AND SAID THAT ANY OF THOSE DOG HAVE MUCH AS SHOW A TOOTH AT THE ONLY PLACE IV'E SEEN A MEAN PITBULL IS ON T.V.
To add to what #5877 said....I'd like to make ONE major point clear. People say dogs have to be taught aggression or mean acts. I do NOT believe this about any breed. I've seen (even in temperment bred show dogs) signs of aggression. Temperment of ALL animals STARTS with responsible breeders. Good or Bad treatment/training only enhances what is already breed into the dog! Responsibility for aggressive dogs belongs on the breeder's plate & should remain there with hefty consequences & the aggressive dogs from ALL breed's would become a "thing of the past"
I have two pitbull terriers and the are the most well behaved dogs i've ever had. Great with my neices, and younger brothers. Neither of them have ever shown aggression for any reason, We need to show the true natue of this breed, kind loving, smart and dedicated to whom ever their master. I will stand buy my dogs the the end, as they will for me. If we APBT owners dont sick up for them, no one will! I love my dogs. Their part of my family.( the best part)
My minature toy doberman RULES over my APBT named Gandalf. He's the best dog my kids have ever had.
Did you know that Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Rotweilers, Doberman's & Lab's BITE over 70% more than Pitt Bulls do? There are 10 pits in our family (all different blood lines) .... I've done research, I wish other's were exposed to the truth also.....
I think pit bulls are great. I have 4 and their and they are all very friendly. I have a baby on the way and I would never be scared to have my child around my very lovable and gentle dogs. Although cautious is warented because of how playfulness and strength of the pit bull breed. But still, they're excellent dogs!!!
I have a "pittbull" mix sort of dog I adopted from the city shelter more than four years ago. She is the nicest pet, gets along very well with other dogs and with cats too. She is very affectionate, and a wonderful friend.
I don't own a pit but I am friend with several people that do and their dogs are some of the sweetest most affectionate animals I have ever know. My dog (collie/shepherd mix) plays with them whenever we get together.
I got my first Pitbull in 1977 before they were the "dangerous breed". No one really even knew what a Pitbull was!
At that time Dobermans were the "vicious breed", and were being persecuted. Many breeds have been labeled as "aggressive" and "dangerous" over the years.
Please do the responsible thing and let the media present these wonderful loving dogs as they truly are, instead of showing the monsters we humans can make them.
Responsible ownership needs to be promoted for ALL breeds to insure the public's safety.
This is more evidence in how much power the media has in controlling public opinion. Maybe they could do a segment on how voilent teenagers are, then we can ban them too!
Violet, petition signer #5854, has eloquently said it all! Caring, responsible pet guardians raise loving, stable pets, whose greatest pleasure in life is to please their human family. Abuse breeds fear and aggression - who can blame the dog? It's a matter of survival at that point. I don't know if it's true, but I've heard, via some animal rescuers, that pit bulls who lose in dog fights are hung and burned. I cannot even fathom such cruelty, but if it's true, it needs to be exposed.
I hope FOX will take on the challenge to shed some light on all these issues, with a series on animal abuse, overbreeding and the need to spay and neuter, and the need for caring, responsible pet guardians. I personally have neighbors who claim to love animals, but they leave their lab in a concrete kennel area, with a dog house and automatic feeder and waterer and think they are responsible. They spend no time with the dog, are never home, and need a dog like a hole in the head. Their 17-year-old cat is missing and they dropped by to see if I had seen it, saying they figured a coyote probably got her, but they would feel better knowing she is dead, rather than missing! And they were leaving town and said if I saw the cat, just put her up on their porch and they would leave out some food for her!!
Having volunteered in a no-kill cat shelter for a few years, I've seen the "disposability" of cats -- people move, boyfriends don't like them, they shed on the furniture, the wife is pregnant, the kids are allergic --I've heard all the excuses. The unfortunate cats are put out to fend for themselves, some are just left behind in an empty apartment with a little food when the owners move. The lucky cats end up in no-kill shelters, so may avoid euthanasia, but many go on to live and die in those shelters, because there will never be enough homes for all the homeless cats (and dogs). And most county-run shelters don't have the facilities, mo
I AM VERY UPSET WITH THE FACT THAT PEOPLE ARE SO UN EDUCATED ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE PIT BULL. I WILL ADMIT AT FIRST FROM THE INFORMATION THE NEWS GIVES ABOUT THESE ANIMALS IS SO NEGATIVE, THAT I WAS VERY HESITANT TO CONSIDER OWNING A PIT BULL. AFTER STUDYING THE HISTORY OF THE PIT BULL AND RESEARCHING THE FACTS I DECIDED TO GIVE THIS BEAUTIFUL BREED A CHANCE TO HAVE A GOOD LIFE. HE HAS SHOWED MY CHILDREN AND I NOTHING BUT LOVE AND LOYALTY! AND SPEAKING FROM EXPERIENCE OF HAVING THE GREAT OPPROTUNITY TO HAVE THIS ANIMAL AND EDUCATE MY SELF ON THE FACTS " AND NOT JUST GOING BY A GOOD TRAJIC STORY ON THE NEWS" I BELIEVE YOU SHOULD GIVE THESE ANIMALS THE CHANCE THAT THEY DESERVE AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON THE FACTS THAT THIS BREED IS LOVING AND LOYAL. YOU SHOULD WORK ON BANNING AND PUNISHING THE CRUEL UNRESPOSABLE PEOPLE WHO BREAD AND SEEK THESE DOGS FOR THE WRONG REASONS AND USES!
It is unfair that opinion has been reported as "factual news" and the reputation of the bully breeds has been harmed. I now have my second American pit bull, and have always had a multiple dog household. I don't have "dog agression" problems. My other breed dogs have always seemed to be more agressive than my bull dogs, and with training, they have calmed down. I think the stereotype of pit bulls being bad dogs is a myth perpetuated by the media because bad news sells. How about giving equal time to good dog stories? Wasn't it FOX that aired the "When Animals Attack" show that had a woman that had her pit bull trained to attack on command? The dog bit a sheriff's deputy with the owner egging on the dog with the commands "sic her! git her!" FOX showed this abnormal trained behavior as being typical of the breed. And Animal Planet is just as guilty when they show Humane Society officers that give their own negative opinions of the bully breeds as facts.
Pit bulls, like any popular house-pet breeds, can be as loving, tedner and loyal if given the right care and love. The dogs that are vicious become so from human oppression and abuse
PLEASE!When will people learn that they are responsible for proper training of animals and children. The only way that these precious creatures become violent is through violent training.
I have grown up around this breed and I have never seen a mean pit bull except on TV.
My boy Samson enjoys long rides in the car, spending time with his daddy (me), and eating a hardy meal or two. Pit bulls are the most loyal dog I have ever been around. This breed has earned the right to be called "MANS BEST FRIEND".
Clearly there is a definate need for a POSITIVE (realistic) segment on the "Pit Bull Terrier CRISIS" While I can appreciate the many many signatures on this petition, I also noticed a great number of people who called themselves breeders, stating "Ban the deed not the breed." Well, so many people like to say this phrase, but what really is the "deed"? There are many wrong "deeds" that pit bulls fall victim to at the hands of humans, begining with BREEDING. With the surplus of dogs that we have in todays society, created by not only irresponsible backyard breeders, but by puppy mills as well, pet shops, auctions, pet "lifestyle" stores (aka Woof&Co.), etc., dogs of all breeds are being treated as disposable, as status symbols and fads. Nowadays, it is the irresponsible, ignorant, selfish people who are responsible for breeding, as many responsible breeders have now put an end to their breeding programs so as not to add to the surplus of unwanted animals in the world.
**Kiki 5853** addressed this issue and brought up a good point, in the past, even the worst breeders knew that a dog should not be aggressive to people and did not breed from those dogs, nowadays, the ignorant people breeding these dogs do not have the skills to even breed themselves properly, let alone a dog. Even still, being that these dogs are NOT inherrently aggressive to people, they still need to be abused and made into problem dogs. It's hard to un-do over a hundred years of thoughtful breeding. They are still one of the highest scoring breed on temperment tests.
A segment on this problem, focusing on the regulating of breeders would be very benificial to enlighten the casual backyard breeder who maybe doesn't even consider the impact on the pet overpopulation crisis. Breeding dogs should not be left in the hands of the unskilled and uncaring. Breeding dogs when done responsibly, for the love of the breed does NOT make a profit. That i
Breed legislation is based on ignorance, flavored with fear. It is important to educate yourself and others on the beauty of the pit bull and other so called agressive dog breeds. There is more than one breed of dog being called a pit bull, all with unique qualities that are becoming of each specific breed. The true American Pit Bull terriers were pit dogs, bred to be dog aggressive, never handler aggressive, (remember the old photos of the men in the pits with their dogs??) if they were ever vicious towards humans, they were euthanized or elimated from the breeding stock, unforturnately, ignorance, lack of education and irresponsible owners with sheer stupidity have spawned afew bad dogs. That combined with greedy backyard breeders are to blame here, not the dog. In fact in England, the Pit bull type they have is called a Staffordshire Bull Terrier (it is also known as a pit bull in our country) is known as the Nanny dog for it's love of children and people. It's popularity is like a labrador in our country. Why? They know how loyal, loving and gentle these dogs truly are. BUT, like any animal, they will obey their masters, and when trained improperly, not socialized or abused they can become a weapon in the wrong hands. Instead of banning the dogs, we need to educate people on proper dog treatment starting with socialization and gentle handling from the beginning.
