pitbulls have only gotten a bad rap because of the people who use and abuse them..they r the most loving and powerful breed of dog there is..ive owned pitbulls my whole life.not once has one of my dogs even playing gotten aggressive with me or any of my friends or family.so it makes me sick when people say its in there nature to be aggressive.that couldnt be further from the truth..they r breed to be aggressive and killing machines.in a 7 yr study of all the dog bites in the untied states pitbulls accounted for only 1.89% of all dog bites.wanna know what dogs placed 1st and second..not even a doberman or a rottweiler.! is a labrador retreiver and #2 was the cocker spaniel..and out of 100 dogs pitbulls placed 96th on the list in most likely to bite category so please just think the next time u say its in there nature...../
We have a pit bull that we saved and our only problem with him is he he gives to much love. Guess thats not really a problem though since he is neither human aggressive nor animal aggresive. Point is- Its not the breed its the owners fault.And to punish the breed for the owners bad knowledge of how to raise a dog is like race discrimanation because of the color of the skin. Just because they are black brown white or red skinned doesnt matter we all have the potention to do bad things. But a majority of us dont do bad things. The breed needs to be heard. They are a good breed given the chance.
I know I have already signed this once, but today my Pit Bull saved my life from a fire. There was a fire in the vacant apartment complex downstairs and he was sniffing the walls and the floor. He was trying to let me know. Even the firemen told me that I was lucky to have a dog like him. My Pit Bull is my HERO!
Pit Bulls are not vicious by nature. It is vicious people who train innocent animals to be cruel for their entertainment. It should be those people who are banned and removed from society!
We have to speak up for our friends. They are the most loyal and playful animals. I love my pit and would not trade him for the world. I think it would be a great idea to give the world a true view of pit bulls and not just the negative.
My boyfriend and I have a pitbull and she is wonderful!Gets a long real well with my weimer. I am a trianer and NEVER had any problem with any of the pits in my class. They all get a long well with the other dogs in class whether it is a puppy, basic, or advanced! It is the people that own them where they LEARN bad habits. Want proof? I'm shelter coordinator for a basset rescue. It kills me to see how many bully breeds there are that are in the shelter and die needlessly. By and large they are an amazing breed that are all about people.
Unfortunately, due to an outbreak of them being perceived as a macho dog over the past couple decades they've become the breed of choice for thugs and drugdealers, which work to make the breed aggressive to people.
And of course, everytime there's any story involving a pitbull the news makes headlines with it, making it seem as if their all VICIOUS animals.
God forbid the news try to tell a story that does something like enlighten instead of terrify.
I challenge Fox News to do their research and do a thorough-- fair and BALANCED report on the breed.
Vicious dogs are never born mean, they are made that way by humans who are both sick and cruel themselves. As it is with any young animal or child too - treat them well, give them loving homes, and they will grow up to be just as loving in return.
Naturally, pitbulls are very gentle and sweet dogs. Because they have such amazing strength, people take advantage of that and use it for illegal activities. The cruel individual takes the dog as a puppy, neglects & abuses it so it will become agressive. Once this has been instilled, the dog feels it must fight in order to survive, hence the "pitbull ring". Why people get such enjoyment over watching two dogs destroy one another for entertainment is beyond comprehension. Once these poor dogs have been fought too many times, their owners throw them away. They can never be adopted into loving homes because of the torture they have lived through which leads no other alternative but to "destroy" the dog. While this is being done, the previous owner is continuing the vicious circle with a new pit. Dogs are supposed to be mans best friend, not dogs of destruction.
I recently met a 'real' pit bull. I was surprised at how gentle and loving she is. I was also surprised at how wrong I was about the breed. This 'real' pit bull was one of the best dogs I have ever met - well behaved and charming. It's not the breed that is aggressive - it's the nasty owners who make these dogs aggressive. I won't make the mistake in the future of thinking poorly of this breed - only the people that hurt that them.
I know a pitbull who is the most friendly dog. it is not right that all the dogs should be punished because some people are irresponsible. The people are the problem they teach the dogs to be that way.
I was givin a 8 week old apbt from a friend of a friemd. i was wary because i didnt know much about them. baron turned 4 in nov and i don't know how i could live with out him now. He's the best dog ive ever owned. great with kids and other people. has some dog aggression but that is expected with apbt.
I have a pitbull"lucy" and I love her so much I don't know what I would do without her. It's so frustrating trying to explain my dog to everyone I meet. I agree that owners definitely make their dog the way they are. My dog has never bit anyone, but as soon as someone looks at my dog they are scared, this is the result in owners teaching their pit to fight. Unfortunately pitbulls are so smart they pick up very easily when they are trained, they love to please their owner and if the owner is teaching that dog how to fight, the dog's going to do just that. Pitbulls are no different than other breeds. You teach any kind of dog to be vicious that's what that dog is going to do. Put the bad owner to sleep not the dog!!!!
I have owned pit bulls for 10 years now and they are the the most people friendly dogs I have ever met compaired to all dogs this might sound like an outrageuos claim but what do I have to gain in making it up it would least be worth it for you to do a study and honest look at them yourself
My friend has a wonderful pitbull named Chester,he is loving with children,great with friends and family,and just simply loves life.He is not a mean dog,and i simply want to say that do we destroy all humans because some are bad?Don't destroy the good with the bad please.Pitbulls can be great family loving dogs.

I own a few different breeds of dogs. I remember when I use to think that Pitbulls where vicious uncontrolable dogs. All that changed when I acquired one. I've learned a lot about the breed and I came to the conclusion that most people who negatively speak of the dog are the people who never experienced having one. They are the most loyal and caring dogs that I've ever seen. I have them in my house around my children. The TV show "The Little Rascals" had one. That was before "Rintintin" and "Lasie". I think the breed should be blamed for the mistakes it's human owner makes. A gun by itself wont hurt anybody. Give the gun to the wrong person and pow. You can figure out the rest.
I think it's ridiculous that anyone would think that a dog is just born mean. They aren't that smart. They come out hungry and cold just like everyone else. Someone needs to do something about these stupid bans. Just because this type of dog was used in dog fighting doesn't mean that they are bad. roosters used to be used in cock fighting and noone has banned chicken farms.
i've been around pitbulls all my life....when i was young...my friend and her family had one.....her younger brother was mauled by a dog.......it was not the pitbull....but it was a little chow chow. the chow was not put down. but my friends pitbull was, because he attacked the chow for atacking his owner.

Pit Bulls are great dogs...no more agressive and mean than any other breed. I myself have never owned one, but I know people who do and I can tell you they're nothing less than SWEET pets!!!

i love my dog diamond she is the sweetess dog. she is great with kids especially little ones she thinks they are her little friends. it isnt the dog that is bad it is the owner. the same way with humans it all depens how they are raised.
I have 3 Pit Bulls and they are great. I work for a animal surgeon and we see a lot of pit bulls and none of them have been aggressive. They tend to knock us over and lick our faces clean.
I love my dog Buster, he is a pit bull and just an awsome dog all around. Everyone loves him and he is also great with other dogs and with kids. Pit bulls are not what people think they are just fun loving dogs that want to play and be loved like everyother animal out there
I love this breed of dog. Not only are they loyal and friendly, but they are smart and challenge their guardians to be "respectful & loyal" to them as well. This breed relies on their guardians to show them how to be a "great” canine member of society. Unfortunately because of their respectful/loyal nature, they tend to follow those who do show them a “negative life style!” Thus the lifestyle of dog fighting! I think doing a true media story on them will be an eye-opener for many!
Please consider that this breed has been in America since the Irish and English settlers immigrated here in the 1800's.From a historical standpoint it is only until recently that Pit Bulls have been GIVEN a bad name.Did this breed of dog suddenly morph into a monster? No!

I think that it is about time the media does a story on pit bulls that ACCURATELY depicts their personality. It is really unfair that the breed as a whole is demonized becuase of a few bad owners and poorly bred representations. There are stats out there that prove pit bulls are among one of the best breeds for families. Statistically they are less likely to bite a human than Cocker Spaniels and Labs! Do the right thing and portray them in there rightful image!
It's about time that we took a defensive stand for this great breed of dog, especilaay with the proliferation of breed-specific legislation aimed at banning the breed altogether, despite the fact that may serve not only as cherished family pets, but also as therapy dogs.Many also compete in obedience, agility and weight pull competitions, serving as goodwill ambassadors for the breed. Animals know what their humans teach them. Any breed can become overly aggressive & mean when their humans teach them that behavior. Pit bulls are just as loving as any other breed when they are shown love & proper attention. Please help squelch the myth that all pit bulls are fighters & dangerous.
Jill King~Not every pit bull is abused by its human. There are many many pit bulls who have great lives with their human owners. I think something does need to be done about the monsters who neglect and who are cruel to their pit bulls. But in no way should a ban be necessary. That is ridiculous to be a pit bull owner and want a pit bull ban.
I am for banning the FUTURE breeding of this wonderful breed. I love this breed but it is the most tortured dog by humans. I would rather see this breed no longer exist than have the breed tortured and abused as it is by humans. The shelters are filled with these dogs and noone will adopt them. I was alway's afraid of them till my son got involved with them he and his wife brought one to me when he was 6 weeks old and he is great a ox of a dog and an big baby.My cats make him whimper if they hiss at him.. It is all in how they are raised and treated it isnt the breed itself it's the owners and how they raise them as with any other animal if you treat them badly then they will treat you badly.. There a DOG as with any DOg you should be weary of them till they know you but I have yet to meet a mean American Pitt Bull!!! My son raises them and he has friends that do.And there all big babies..
i recently found a stray "pit bull" in my neighborhood and kept her at my house until i could get her into rescue...what a baby! 100% affectionate and sweet. i wish people could see this side of this "vicious breed".
We have a pit that was from a local SCPA and I will tell you that I would never give her up. She is an angel and loves every one, big or small. She is so happy when people come to visit and even cries when they leave. She goes to the pet stores and loves to have the people come up to her and tell her how pretty she is and this makes her just wiggles her tail off. I have not found one person, child, and or dog she doesn't like. The first night I had her, I woke up in the middle of night and she was in bed with me, her head right next to mine. (She was around 2 years old when we got her) I just rolled back over and went back to sleep. She was home after that and still sneaks in bed with us. There is so much more I could say about her, but you would have to meet her to understand. The funny part is that people say how afraid they are of pits and when I take her out, more people come over to talk to me about her and are amazed how sweet she is. Also she is afraid of her our shadow................... ........... Now that is a mean dog huh?
In most cases it's not the dogs, it's how they are raised, which falls back on the owners. I have known some wonderful pits that were non aggressive towards children. I even knew one that would help you in the front door just so she could get attention, because she loved people. Make sure you depict the good with the bad, as only showing the bad is showing prejudisim towards them.
