My pittie is the most loyal animal I have ever had. I am in a wheelchair and I am training her to be my assistance dog and she is learning remarkably fast and is great at what she does.
My wife and I researched what kind of dog to get for a long time. She grew up with a boxer and a doberman pincher as family dogs and so she wanted a doberman. I grew up with a rottweiler that still is the sweetest dog I've ever been in contact with. We researched it, talked to owners, and ended up agreeing on a pit bull. Quite simply the best decision we could have made. This dog has become a joy to us and is one of the most intelligent, friendly, and funny dogs we've every met. Breed-Specific legislation is ridiculous. I don't have a lot of hope that the media will change thier tune any time soon because "VICOUS, BLOODTHIRSTY PITBULLS MASACRE ENTIRE TOWN'S BABIES" sells a lot more papers than "COCKER-SPANIEL BITES CHILD DUE TO IRRESPONSIBLE OWNER"
we have had our 2-yr old pit since she was 3 months old..she is beautiful, well behaved and very loyal..she would lick you to death before she would bite you..she is a treasured part of our family
Pits are a super and powerful dynamic, when they do something they
do it well, with 150% effort; weather
in play, competition
and love. With ALL dogs on earth there
can be bits, and fights and maybe a
bad apple; and when
a pit does something
"Bad" or "Good" they do it like no other;
and do it better; its like bad a plane crash it makes
the news.
The focus should be on the owners or people, Pits Need protection
from people, misuse
and abuse.
With Pitties education undersanding...Love,
patients are so important. First you
get a basic understanding and respect of animals (smart to keep tiny babys away an not alone, until older),
then look at the wild relatives, wolfs etc. Then read
up on pits past and how humans have used and misused, and abused this breed to gain a respect.
Becoming educated in General dog care and education is important. Then one must study their individual breed,
(after that you got
the individual dog
and its life history),
the little qorks, little details and basic do's and dont's. LIKE DONT
TRAIN (Pits)THEM TO BE GAURD DOGS; out of love they will proctect you indiviually. You want a dog to procect your car Lot
look else where. If you have no time and
what to treat your
pit like some other
dog and leave it the
back yard, outside in the Cold or hot, its not a pit your
looking for. Pits are not a Lazy persons
dog; they are very impressionable, and sensetive (sp?), and want to please and learn....habits
in especially younger at least
with my puppy pit,
(shes just shy of 3yrs old) habits can come and go quicky.
I LIKE TO SPOIL HER AND KEEP HER SWEET. She lives inside but likes to play and run outside, like kid.
She LOVES children and even has a cat or two that she has as friends the others are fun to chase
(like most dogs), but she lived with four cats before and did fine.
NOW I dont take that for granted because naturaly in nature anything smaller in "allowed" to
I have rescued many pit bulls.they are great dogs. any dog can be a monster w/o training, and to portray pits as being naturally mean is untrue. i have no problems with my dogs being animal agressive. as a vet tech i have been bit many times by dogs, but never once by a pit bull. ( usually chihuahua's)
Our Pitbull was THE best dog we have ever owned. He was socialized and loved from birth. He was a fantastic family dog and great companion for our children. We miss him terribly and would own another in a heartbeat.
I currently own two rescued pit bull mixes and they are the best pets in the world. I would never own any other breed. I had a pit bull growing up and he was the best dog in the world.
Any animal can/could be violent. I believe it is all in how you train your pet. Train them properly, show them love and attention and they will be a great companion. I know if I was abused I would act out too.
I had a great experience with a pit when I owned a kennel. He was with us for quite a while and I even brought him home with me some nights. I do believe that all large breed dogs should have owners that respect their power and always keep in mind the publics safety. There should also be a stiffer prison sentence for people that are found guilty of promoting dog fighting, which I think breeds aggressiveness in dogs!
Tyler is the most friendlyloving dog in the world, and anyone that knows Tyler will tell you the same.
These dogs just fall into the wrong hands all too often.
I love pit bulls or any animal in general. You say the name and people cringe. You have to raise them with love, discipline and socialize them as much as possible. I have had two pit bulls and have friends that raise them also. This particular breed is not for everyone.
Just about any breed has the potential to be dangerous. Don't punish that breeds name because humans choose them to be mean. I have never met a single pit that wasn't very friendly to me!
We have 2 pitbulls that are the sweetest and most spoiled dogs you ever could meet. You must pay attention to any dog you own but especially a pitty...If you treat these dogs with alot of love they will forever be a good dog with no intent to do anyone any harm.
If you are "fair and balanced," please show the other side of these magnificent animals. A great injustice in American History is on the verge of getting started. Precident is being set around the country that will ultimately lead to the destruction of an undeserving magnificent animal. If you want to see how "brutal" these dogs are, come witness my 90 pounder play with a 5 pound yorkie, his best friend.
in seven years in the veterinary industry i was only bitten by a dalmation and lab. Every pit we saw was loving and sweet. My pit sleeps with my five year old and I've never quetioned her safty around my pits. They are part of our family.
I have yet to see a positive portrayal in the media about pit bulls. Please present the other side of the story so people understand the truth and stop believing that a breed ban would solve this problem.
Where there's a will, there's a way. If you ban pit bulls today, those responsible for training pits to be aggressive will find ways around the law and select another breed - would it be lab or golden retriever? Let's not find out. We have to educate people with the truth. And you can do that.
With a bad dog, the monster is the person holding the leash, not the one attached to it. Dogs are not and CAN NOT be born with aggression, only taught it..
my pit is just about to turn one and has never tried to bite a single person. i have seen some really bad owners though, punish the dead, not the bread.
There is no such thing as a bad pit bull, only a bad owner.
I own two, who think they are lap dogs. If you don't have the skills and the strength to control a pit bull, then don't get one. These are large dogs bred to fight dogs, not to bite people. Dog fighting is abominable in this day and age. And the worst part is with all the mistreatment illegal fighting pits get, all the abuse and lack of medical treatment, they still love their owners.
Pits require lots of affection, lots of exercise, and most importantly, good behaviour around people and animals. If you take care of your pit and introduce him to animals and people early so that he/she has a positive experience, you will have the satisfaction of owning the most gentle, obedient, affectionate, protective dog on the Planet.
And one more thing, in a study of 100 breeds of dogs that bite without provocation, the pit bull ranked 4th. From the bottom. Labrador Retrievers and Cocker spaniels apparently bite more than any other dog. Appearances can be decieving.
Ignorance causes fear. And fear causes hatred.
EDUCATION IS THE ANSWER. STOP THE LIES.
Dogs should not be generalized when it's the type of owners that produces these types of violent dogs and it spreads, next it will be another breed like the Rotti or Shepards.
I believe that owners need a little more guidence into dog ownership and training guidlines.
My brother & sister-in-law have 2 pit bulls. They are the gentlest giants I have ever seen. It is man's inhumanity to animals that creates the occurrences we hear about in the news, not the other way around!
I have a pit bull, and he is the worlds sweetest dog! he gets along with all 3 of my younger nieces, my little brother, my whole family. He also gets along with all of my other animals which include two other dogs, two cats, and a bird. He Loves playing in the back yard like any other dog. and is TRUELY THE WORLDS BIGGEST SWEETHEART! he gives me back as much love as i give him. He is very loyal. and I truely believe that Pit Bulls make some of the best dogs!
I think it would be a wonderful idea to do a truthful segment on the American Pit Bull Terriers. But do it in a respectfull manner and find real responsible people to help you out with it and not some "gang banger" from the hood who dont know anything about the breed as a whole. Find a local dog club that can help you.
I can't see why anyone could or would allow any breed to be banned, If we allow this to happen then we will soon be Banning, certain other Animal's such as coyote's, wolf's, lion's bear's , We can point Our Finger's all we want just as we do when Our Children aren't listening we blame it on other's or on an Illness when we should be blaming Ourself and dealing with it as it should be, If we ban PitBull's then I say Ban Human reproduction as well cause there are to many damn stupid people out there that do way to many stupid things yet hmm they are still alive and we arent offing them my the number, Instead we give them pill's and look the other way, This is what's wrong with the world Fast to blame n point and look for a fast fix .. IT'S TIME FOR AN AWAKING PEOPLE , WE EITHER MUST GO INTO HIDING WITH OUR DOG'S OR FORCE THE WORLD TO WAKE UP AND BE REAL WITH THEMSELFS AND STOP LOOKING FOR A FAST FIX .....
WE CAN NOT ALLOW THIS TO CONTINUE , THEY TELL MUST BE FORCED TO SEE THAT THIS ISNT THE RIGHT CHOICE , And to wake up and get real.
All dog breeds have the potential for aggressive behavior if not socialized properly or bred without consideration for temperament and disposition. In recent memory, German Shepherds, Malamutes, Chows, Akitas, Doberman Pinschers, Bulldogs, and other breeds have become first the 'fad dog', and then the 'bad dog on the block'. Even poodles, collies, and dachsunds have displayed temperament dysfunction as a result of bad breeding and socialization while riding a wave of popularity of those breeds. Usually this is because the animals are purchased and/or bred by people who know nothing about animals. The proper control of 'bad dogs' is to control breeding, to properly socialize the existing dogs, and to strongly punish those who allow aggressive or vicious dogs of any breed to injure any person. Persons involved in dog fighting, specifically, should face very heavy criminal and civil penalties.
THESE ANIMALS DESERVE A CHANCE. ANYBODY CAN BE A KILLER IF THEY ARE RAISED TO BE. IF THESE DOGS (PITBULLS) WERE RAISED IN THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT, AND NOT TAKEN ADVANTAEG OF FOR THEIR STRENGTH, WE WOULDN'T HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. I KNOW A FEW PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD A PITBULL FOR MANY YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANY PROBLEMS.IN FACT, ONE OF THE SWEETEST DOGS I HAVE EVER MET WAS A PITBULL. LET'S NOT BE QUICK TO JUDGE ALL OF THEM JUST BECAUSE SOME HAVE BEEN PUT IN THE WRONG HANDS...
Many dogs are only what you make them. Rottweilers and German Shephers can be just as dangerous. When a pitbull is raised in a loving, responsible home, it can be the most playful, loving pet. We just need to target the irresponsible owners who take advantage of this breed. Any animal will fight if it is made to.
I HAVE OWNED PITBULLS FOR 5 YEARS AND I HAVE KIDS AGES 8,6,3,7 MONTHS OLD AND I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY DOGS AND MY KIDS, AND FOR PEOPLE TO JUDGE A DOG FOR THEIR PAST AND IRRESPONSIBLE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY CARE LESS ABOUT THE THIS REMARKABLE BREED,AND ALLOW THEM TO PUNISH THE RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE WHO TAKE GOOD CARE OF THEIR DOGS LIKE A MEMBER OF THEIR FAMILY. YOU SHOULD DO THIS FOR ALL THE RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE OUT THERE, AND FOR THE DOGS THAT HAVE NO VOICES TO SPEAK. AFTER PITBULLS WHOS NEXT?
This majestic and playful breed deserves some one with a little intelligence to make decisions regarding temperament and specific breed legislation.......not just some uninformed general public hysteric that does not even understand animals..
Come on FOX, lets put an end to "only bad media sells". You have enough people on this petition that support this idea, how about giving something back to the viewers of your network!!
I have ownly resently began to have a pitbull as a part of my family. It is sad when you cannot go on a walk without people yelling at you about how irresponsible of a person you are for owning these wonderful dogs. The sad part is before I owned my first american staffordshire terrier I also believed the media because it was drilled into my head that these dogs are naturally human aggressive and are only used for protection and fighting. After owning these dogs I realized these are the last dogs you would ever want for protection. If you were to break into my house you would be licked to death before anyting. We as responsible pitbull owners need to get the word out to the world about the truth behind these misunderstood dogs.
I think it's a very sad day, when we have to petition the media to tell the real truth about pitbulls.I always thought the media was there to report the news without a bias opinion.I guess, they have forgotten what their job really is about.
Pit bulls are very smart, loyal animals. In my experience they have been very empathetic to my needs. When i cry, she stays with me and puts her paw on me. Pit bulls are like children, in that, they turn out how you raise them.
Having worked with animals for a number of years, I have found that pitbulls are very loyal and loving dogs. It's such a horrible misdeed for the media to misrepresent these wonderful animals.
its really sad when u see all the hype around this wonderful breed. The APBT is one of the most magnificent animals youll ever find around. if raised with the love and care that any dog should get they are the best gaurd dog, comapanion, and even baby sitter. they are good with kids and can take the ear pulls and things little kids dish out. i say if you havent had the chance to own one, its your loss
I have a pitbull and people think is a vicious dog because it barks at her toy. I've had her for 6 months and I haven't had a problem. She is great with my family and friends. It all depends on how you treat it and if you give him/her enogh attention.
I have a american pitbull and a rotweiller for indoor dogs and i never had problem with them they are just like my little babies their great with stranger and even better with children I just wisht people would just stop bashing are breed and acctually research and take time to find out the AMPBT are great dogs and loving companions
For a long time now i have kept pits as pets and they are great loyal dogs they have great temperments I think the way the dog behvior turns out greatly depends on the owner or trainer.
I have three indoor pitbulls and they are all great dogs. One trait that they share is a hunger for people...not their body parts, but their attention!!! They are loving animals and have been great around my newborn son.
The main message needing to be relayed about our breed is that it's not the dog that causes the problem... it starts with the owner of the dog... just like children, if you take the time and effort to raise them properly, they will do you proud in public! I know b/c I myself have two purebred APBTs and one 1/2 APBT 1/4 chow 1/4 blue heeler, and I do extensive and coninuous obedience training with all of them and they never let me down in public!!!
I firmly believe that a dog's behavior is tremendously influenced by its owner/trainer no matter what the breed is. Thanx to my friends Peanut & Tater I have gained a more positive insight into the breed. Initially I was hesitant. You know with all the negative press, but having spent time with them along with my small fir ball of a mutt (Poodle/Lhasa) my opinion quickly changed. Yes they are a wonderful, sweet, loyal and affectionate breed. They have tremendous senses and they're really strong, but all being said. It's all in how you raise/train em. Thanx Jack; for raising two wonderful Pit Bull Terriers.
I have been involved with this breed for about 15 years now, and not once have I ever felt threatened by a pitbull... let alone bitten by one. Although I have been bitten by several chihuahuas and pekingese dogs. Go figure...
my kids have (blue) pits and they are great dogs and friends..good with my grandchildren also...owners are the main problems with any dog..they are as they are trained
I agree. The dogs behavoir comes from the training. If you train the dog to attack they will. If you train then to be a pet and good they will. Give them a chance.
