The way the media portrays the pitbull is in the same vein as stereotyping all blacks because some deal drugs, or all Southern whites because some are racist or ignorant. Yet day in day out you hear pitbull bites...., Vicious pitbull that. What about all the other breeds who have bitten? Not as news worthy?
I worked in a humane society for 4 yrs. and in that time I was attacked by 3 dogs. (That just comes with the territory.) The funny thing is that not one of those dogs was an APBT. In fact, 2 were labs and 1 was a poodle mix. I didn't see anyone from the media trying to contact me to cover that story!!!I currently own one APBT and he is the best, most well behaved dog I've ever seen. PS: I also have 3 children!
The mentality of dog owners who get "off" on having dogs who regulary kill neighbors pets who run loose, have the attitude my dog can kill your dog are at fault. Breed banning is a hate mentality that will turn folks into vigilanties . turning in their neighbors who own a dog who might be a Boxer Mix who just happens to look like a Pit breed.. Its insane we have come to this..Legislation needs to be in place for neglegent owners .
I have owned boht a Pit Bull and American Staffordshire Terriers. Our Pit was a loving dog but unfortunately she was dog agressive. I understand folks think the breed can be harmless and its the owners who are at fault. My Pit went throught Obedience training and was wonderful in class. It was her home companion she hated and nearly killed. Because of their genetics they can dog tremendous harm when motivated. I also ahve owned Aust. Shep. who also have shown dog agression..but the damage they inflict is less..My AmStaffs are just big couch potatoes and are truely wonderful dogs. Both have been through obedience and one has been shown in Conformation. truely wonderful dogs. Its not the breed but the owners who are in need of education and a change in mind set. Any popular breed is doomed to bad breeding and sloppy genetics creating personality problems and health problems..I hope the powers at be will not concider breed bans or other large and more agressive breeds will become popular..
To say this breed is vicious is insensitive because they act how they are raised. Maybe it’s the owners of this “vicious breed” we should ban for training the dogs to be that way. I had a pitbull myself and I have had birds more brutal. These dogs or any dog, for that matter, are not mean spirited. It’s no different than raising a child—You have to nurture, love, and play with them. Starving them, beating them, and fighting them is inhumane. I think the owners should suffer the consequences for the actions of the dog because that’s how they were trained. People have only been exposed to the negative images of this breed. Since my nephew was a newborn he has had a pitbull by his side watching him, cuddling with him, and loving him. Don’t be so close-minded!
Pit bulls are gentle giants. They are just like any other dog. They are no exception. If you show ANY dog love and affection, he will return it 10-fold. The same rule applies to if you abuse a pit bull -- he will return the aggression 10-fold. We shouldn't let a few bad pit bulls be the "official representation" of the whole breed. Whatever some pit bull does across the country is irrelevant to my pit bulls. Each individual dog has it's own personality, just like we humans do. No need to pick on pit bulls, just pick on their bad owners. I've never owned an aggressive pit bull. They've all had wonderful and adorable personalities. Could never ask for a better canine than the american pit bull terrier.
My friends have pitbulls and they're the kindest and sweetest dogs i've ever come across...it's like saying one evil human makes all humans evil..not true is it?...so I agree with Lenna..."Get a life"
I used to be very afriad of the dogs i was around especially pitbulls. For the past year i've been around plenty of pits, and i have realized that there really is nothing to be afraid of. Pits are the most loving and caring dogs i have ever been around!!!
I have 2 female pitbulls, one is 2 years old and the other is 4 months old AND I have a Lhasa Apso which is 8 years old. My Lhasa is more vicious than both pits put together. I always had the misconception that pits are bad and dangerous but owning them is a blessing. They are the most loving and caring dogs. People need to stop believing the media hype and negative images. Get a life!!!
pits are awesome loving loyal dogs! dont blame the breed, blame the deed!!!!! what needs to happen is the sentances for dog abuse, malnourishment, neglect, and dog fighting need to be beefed up....get those assholes in jail thats where they belong!dont even get me started on this!
I have 1 full pit and 1 half pit, and 7 year old twin girls and both dogs have been great with my kids and I have always trusted both of the dogs with my girls, the dogs let the girls climb on them. It's how they are raised. I use to work in a animal hospital and I seen more agressive breeds then some of the pits that came thru the door. I had a co-worker get bit by an agressive basset hound. So some much for the theory that only pits are agressive. Punish the owners not the dogs.
Pitbulls are awesome ! I love the breed and work with them often , they are like any other dog with a love and kind owner they are the best cuddle bugs in the world !
Pitbulls are not bad dogs. I have a pit/american bulldog mix, and my brother has had many pitbulls his whole life. I have 3 kids, a 15 month year old, a 3year old and a 4 year old. My dog is wonderful with all of them. with the 15month year old she will go up to her, give her kisses, let the baby crawl all over her, and let the baby do what ever. I have the highest trust in my dog because she would never hurt anyone. with the older kids, she gently plays fetch versus. when she plays us, she plays more rough and we have to fight her more for the toy. she knows when she is playing with children and how to treat them differently. and on top of that she is only 10 months old, she it still 70+ plus pounds. but even this puppy is sweet and respectful as well as protective and loyal. My mother condemned my dog from the beg. just because of her breed. but when shes sees pictures of the way she acts with the baby, it could change anyones mind. banning these dogs is just as stupid and wrong as banning, black people or white people or asain people or babies or old people or gay people or straight people or stupid people. I do hope this program comes about and changes the reputation of these awesome loyal and loving dogs.
DONT BAN PITBULLS...ITS STUPID!!!! like what about that lil girl a while back that went into this guys back yard that had a no trespassing sign and a beware of dog sign...the pitbull bit her so they put it to sleep...now whos fault is that if a 5 yr old with no parental control wanders back there and gets bit. it doesnt make pitbulls bad dogs. they are PROTECTIVE not mean...i had one...he was the best dog in the world. and i would say i would rather have a pit than any other dog.
Blame the breed, not the owner. The stigma these poor dogs have on their name is ridiculous, and a product of ignorance. It's all about how they're raised- take action on the "owners" who fight them, not the dog who knows no better.
It's not the breed; it's the owner! Owners make the dog. If you have a loving, caring owner who wants a pitbull as a pet and are willing to take the time to train them properly these are awesome dogs for whole family! They are beautiful, intelligent, sweet, fun loving dogs and should be appreciated as such! If the Staffshire “Pitbull” Terrier is completely banned then THOSE OWNERS that aid in giving the pitbull a bad name will just pick a new breed to press upon that kind of behavior. This is NOT fair to a living thing to keep it from having a great home with someone who will raise it CORRECTLY!
i have a couple of pits and there very good dogs great protectors and i wouldnt want a nother dog when you breed these dog to people biting dogs such as boxers, rotts you get a mean people biting dos so i think if thier making a fuss over this quit putting them in ads and commericals
I don't own a pitbull but I do own an Amstaff. I love all dogs! Iam against pitbull ban in Onatrio. All who have signed this petition PLEASE SIGN "PETITION AGAINST THE PITBULL BAN IN ONATRIO". We need everyones help to make a difference for this breed! Please help!
All dogs are born with a "bite inhibitor gene". Unscrubulous breeder have bred that out of their fighting dogs. Once it's gone, it's gone. These are the dogs that are dangerous, not the ones that are bred to maintain breed standards. The RCA dog was a Pit Bull! The dog on the Little Rascals was a Pit Bull!
Pitbulls are duch loving and loyal dogs. I am doing a research paper right now to show people that pitbulls are just like any other dog. I own an engligh staffshire pit mixed with blue pit and she is the most loving dog in the world. "judge the dog for the deed, not the breed!" We need the news to do a ocver story possibly a million stories so people will get it through their closed minds that pitbulls are WONDERFUL. GIVE THEM A CHANCE!! pitbulls aggression comes from the way they are raised it is not a chemical imbalance lookat the people that own them. please fox do your part and help us get the word out!!!!!!!!!
It would be wonderful for Fox to show the truth! If its the media that has given these wonderful dogs such a bad reputation then it is the media that can restore the breeds honor.
My Pitbull Maxi is currently hand raising his new kitten. He walks around with it in his mouth, holding it by the scruff of its neck so it can accompany him everywhere. That's the heart of a pitbull. Caring, loving, protective and 100% trustworthy.
My pitbull mix is the most wonderful dog I have had in my 40 years of having dogs. The most friendly gentle and loving creature I have ever known. Destruction of this breed of dog is criminal. I do not believe it is constitutionally sound to ban ONE breed. Let us reach the people who know nothing about these dogs, except what hateful people have spouted on the media outlets throughout the world.
Why should pitbulls be punished for being a dog. They are not born "vicious" nor "dangerous", they are just like any other dog. It's up to the owners to train and raise them the right way. Raising a Pitbull/dog is very similar to raising a child. And how you raise them determines how they are going to act when the grow up. The main thing is that the people who criticize the Pitbull should realize that DOGS CANNOT SPEAK, THEY DON'T HAVE HAND SO THEY CANNOT DO SIGN LANGUAGE AND THEY CANNOT WRITE. If someone is getting on your last nerve, trying to get you upset or is hurting your family you can tell them to stop, by talking, using sign language, or writing. A Pitbull/Dog can only bark and bite. Doesn't matter how nice a person may seem, if you piss them off enough they will eventually try to someway to get you to stop. If someone gets bitten by a Pitbull I'm pretty sure it would tell them why did it if it could. So I say again why try to punish the Pitbull breed for being its self? It's up to us to train them, love them and treat them right. Thank you!
i think it would be wonderful to show our breed in a possitive light ! we have owned this wonderful breed for many years and with proper socialization, like any breed, their the best ! thank you !
Hey, this is Fox News we are talking about. Fox is not news and has no credibility. It is a conservative rag for self-righteous wind bags to wallow in their own misery. The people who follow Fox News want to be scared of everything. They don’t care about reason and rational thinking, they want to fear. It’s good for business.
The people who are not good owners should be punished not the breed. When a little kid is raised more than 70% of the time that child will grow up to be like the surrounding environment. In this case the environment is the treatment the owners shares on the PET. As you see pet is the main issue. Any animal can be raised a certain way. So people having a bad theory about pitbulls are just as ignorant as their theory. I have had 2pitbulls and never had a problem with any of them. Like a child they need to be around people and have a good social environment. Think about if people made a petition about your child because he was bad. How would you feel? People who think bad of pitbulls are discriminating. I thought "dog was mans best friend." How is that when you want to think down on them.
I have owned three pitbulls and found them to be loving and faithful companians. They were very loving towards my children and even my cat. When I first had my baby, my girl CoCo Bear would come and let me know when the baby was crying by coming up to me and nudging me and staring in my face. COCO Bear was very protective of my children and a wonderful dog.
studies show that 85% of pitbulls taken due to BSL are non-aggressive, family owned and oriented dogs. So, why are we putting them to sleep because of the bad rap society has given them
I have a pitbull that is the nicest dog in the world. It gets alone with people and animals better than my friends Jack Russel Terrier. Punish the deed not the breed.
I fostered a pit who was left out in a 3-foot blizzard. She was hard to catch at first, but now she is all mine and she thinks she's a terrier or cat! She sits in your lap and waits for me on the window sill. It's all in the training, not the breed!!
It's all about how the dog is brought up..if he is trained to fight..he will fight..I work in a vet and have seen pit bulls be total marshmallows..its the not just the dog its the owner!
i have never been hurt by any of my parents pits. i have been raised with them and with the four of us kids and all the dogs and torture kids can put on animals and aggravation we have never had one to lash out. my parents has bred and raised over 30 pits. that proves it has to be taught!!!!!!!!
ive been raising pitbulls now for 8 years. and ive learned they are territorial dogs but the aggression is taught. all dogs can bite all dogs can bark and all dogs can seem fearse but inside they are just as frightened as they see you to be..if you dont know a stray dog or unfamiliar dog dont approach. my mom had a chahawahwah (excuse the spelling if wrong) that was so mean it bit my oldest son constantly because of jealousy. when she was apup they thought it was cute when she barked at people and tha i believe is where it started.... so if you dont have a pit shut up... that goes with rots, dobies, german sheps, all dogs.... it is indivual personalities of each breed and how its raised..... think before you speak......
I am an animal welfare advocate and volunteer for a shelter. We deal with many pitbulls and rarely do they have any aggression problems. If they do it was brought on by the ignorant people that owned them and taught them to be fighters. This is a people problem, not a breed problem.
Pitbulls are wonderful dogs, I have never owned one, but as with all animal "problems" the only problem is humans. Dogs only become aggressive if they are afraid (under threat) or are trained to be aggressive which is what happens to Pits because of stupid people. Don't victimise the dogs, address the real problem.
As a lifelong dog owner who finds them all special I have to admit that my current pit mix is the smartest, sweetest dog I have ever known. This fabulous breed does not deserve it's current reputation brought on by sensationalized stories. In the 70's it was Dobermans then German Shepards. There is always a scapegoat...
I babysit my brother's pit all the time. I have a 3 and 6 year old and he is soo gentle with them, caring for them when they are hurt. Always curious, and extra gentle because he knows they are children.
My baby is 8 years old, and I don't think I would ever own another breed besides pit bulls. They are the best! Playful, loving, and the most loyal. "Hate the DEED, not the BREED!"
I hate pit bulls and I hope they rot in hell!!!!! Thats what every one thinks i rescued my first pit bull and he so lovey dovey. You can train any dog to fight these dogs are not some fighters there lovers when I had first got him he was getting attacked left and right by my other dogs and he never bit back. like any other dog you can train them to sit or you can trian them kill it is all on what the dogs parents teach them!!!!!!
I've grew up with pit bulls my whole life. We've owned many different breeds, and never had a problem. Please don't believe everything you read or hear.!!!
I rescued my first pit and was scared due to the media coverage. I was in shock as he is the best tempermented dog I own and I have two other non-pits. He is so loving and fun. I would get another if I had the space.
I have three pit-mixes of my own and have fostered countless others. They can be the best family dogs---sweet and patient and full of love! Just ask my five year old son who has grown up with these wonderful dogs around him...his favorite dog is his pitbull, "Cricket"!
I am the Proud owner of a Pit mix girl. I've never owned a more sensitive, awesomely friendly, sweet natured, smart dog. The Injustice here is what the Media does this breed without knowing it truly! You interview and show irresponsible owners, not those of use who use our Pits for SEARCH & RESCUE, or those DRUG dogs or BOMB dogs. What of those PITS??? What of those RESPONSIBLE OWNERS!!?? When will you do a REAL story on these dogs?
I've been rescuing and fostering mainly pitbulls from Baltimore, Miami, LA and now San Francisco for over 20 years. Come see my photo album any time of all the mistreated dogs, especially pits...who once they were given a safe and healthy environment for their first time in life...became and remained gentle and thankful souls.
I am the Founder of a non-profit dog rescue and have made it my lifes work to help and save dogs with no hope of rescue.I have housed and lived amounst every breed of dog you can imagine, as a whole I find chihuahua's to be much more aggressive than ANY other dog. My 2 beautiful pit bulls are the best dogs I have ever had!
I am a professional dog trainer & behaviorist. I've trained over 500 dogs in the last couple years. I find pit pulls one of the easiest breeds to train. I often work with dogs with aggression issues. I've worked with more pit bulls than any other breed. I've only been attacked or bitten 2 times - once by a black lab and once by a lab mix.... but never by a pit bull.
well first off all all dogs can bite not just a mut, mean dog or a pit bull for that fact even thou thease dog have been bred for over a hundered years to live and strive only for the humen unlike some other breads dobies,
german sheperds ect. my point is that only a responsable
