my "baby" is one of the sweetest, intelligent and non-aggressive dogs I've owned. He plays gently with the other smaller dogs (lhasa and cockers) and shares his bed with two cats. He showers my neighbor with kisses wherein the neighbor laughs and says the only way he could hurt someone is that he might "lick him to death!" Ronnie is loved by the neighborhood!
My little pittie Baby is the sweetest dog I have ever owned, and I have owned many dogs. She is smart, obeys all commands, and is human and dog friendly. Dogs are like people, don't descriminate. Each dog is different.
How about checking facts before jumping to conclusions about an entire breed of dog? I am a responsible parent of 4 and I have an APBT that is completely trustworthy with my children. He is my second and will not be my last! These are exceptional dogs who have nothing but adoration for humans. The sad few who become untrustworthy are the unfortunate results of irresponsible breeding practices!
Expose the facts: How many attacks attributed to "pit bulls" were actually later reported to be by other breeds? How many attacks were by unaltered dogs, unlicensed, left to freely roam inspite of leash laws that were never enforced? How many attacks were by pit bulls chained up and left to live and die, neglected and poorly fed, that had probably only 6 feet of dirt and a broken down "house" as their only resources and never knew a kind word or touch? How many attacks were by pit bulls that were properly fed, exercised, groomed & regularly seen by a vet? How many attacks were by pit bulls that were obedience trained? Give us the true facts on laws already in place (licensing, leash laws, etc.) that would prevent most of these so called attacks and are never enforced.
When is the public and the media going to learn about dogs...Regardless of the breed, it is the owner who trains the dog not the other way around...Go after the owners not the dog...Kindly do a positive story about this breed of dog. It has taken enough of bad publicity because no one has taken the time to check out the facts...It's about time someone does...
This dog breed was once thought of as the perfect family pet. "our gang" "RCA" dog etc.
The breed has not changed, the lifestyle and lack of responsibility of owners as well as the influx of immigrant interest in blood sport are where the problems are. We have a population problem with all pets - hundreds of thousands of dogs, cats, ferrets, pigs and such are abandoned and put to death simply because we do not take the time to enforce spay/neuter laws, or insure leash laws are obeyed. It is time that the sleazy money side is put to an end - regulate breeders!!!!! make sure that they do not breed with out specific regulations to insure that they breed safe healthy dog, cats etc. This WILL resolve the problems.
I have the most amazing Pit/Boxer dog in the world. Her name is Stella, and I adopted her from Furry Friends Foundation in Chicago. This dog is so sweet, comical, and loving. You should see her grooming one of our 3 cats, she is so gentle. the important thing to know is that she was adopted when she was around 2-3 years old. She was found in the woods, full of ticks, and with heartworms. It was a miracle that she is alive. I know in my heart that she was abused, discarded, and left to die. Everyone that meets her, falls in love with her. I keep saying I'm going to get her a TV-sitcom of her own! Giving her backgroung, one would think that she would be very agressive; on the contrary. She is by far the most loving, gentle creature. I love her so much. She has brought much joy and unconditional love to my life.
Pit bulls are given a bad rap in life cause people make these dogs vicious they are very good dogs & shouldnt be Labeled a bad dog folks need to know this truth
There is no logical or scientific basis to ban any breed of dog. I'm around pit bulls on a regular basis, and I think they are a wonderful breed. It's people who don't know pit bulls, perhaps have never actually met one, who would promote breed bans.
Please help show the public what this breed is really all about kick some knowledge to the public. Please help the public with information that they need to know. Before america banneds the breed that symbols America in WWII. Its the poor irresponsible, owner out there that makes this breed look bad.
pit bulls are one the best breeds of dogs. Its humans who train them to be rough that need to be penalised.
Humans are aggressive but we dont have laws to exterminate ourselves..who the hell is anyone to pass any laws on other living species?
Pit Bulls total loving devotion to people is at the top of the dog kingdom. What is dysfunctional in relationships, especially, from a probablistic model are people in the USA. Flip of coin chance of a child having a two parent family. Flip of a coin chance of a marriage lasting. Pit Bulls can teach us by their actions. How many Golden Retrievers can you put on a hot barbecue grill till their skin is burnt off (like has happened to several Pit Buls) and have them ever love people again. This and worse is done by the lowest form of humanity. We need to celebrate the pit bull and look more at the dysfunctionality of our own relationships as people. In the USA the real relationships people have is with non-living possessions. We can all learn from Pit Bulls if we look at their behavior in loving homes.
I have a 3 year old american pitbull terrier and she is the most gentle dog I have ever owned! When we play, I can go right up to her and bite her on her face, gently, and she shows no sign of aggresivness! My last dog was an English Cocker Spaniel and the thing was a god damn maniac and had bitten everybody in my family at least once! To ban the Pitbull is insane! I feel that as long as the dog is loved and raised the proper way, you will have no problems at all!
I have adopted an AMSTAFF mix and she has been the best dog I've ever had. People always say it's the way the dog is raised but I can tell you she was terribly abused prior to my adoption. She is so sweet and eager to please me. Please consider educating as many people that you can.
I HAVE APBT/AMSATFF, ITS UNEDUCATED PEOPLE AND TERRIBLE OWNERS THAT CUZ THE PROBLEMS. JUST LIKE FIREARMS, GUNS DON'T KILL PEOPLE, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE, NO DIFFERENT WITH APBT/AMSTAFFS. JUST BAD OWNERS!!!!
I love my dogs. I own 3 American Pitbull Terriers and I will always have one. To ban this amazing breed is horrifying. Do people not remember that this animal was once a symbol of our country. At one time people were proud to own an APBT. Now through ingonorance, improper breeding, and the media (who only show half the story), people are wanting to rid themselves of this wonderful breed. It is about time someone showed these people the true side of the APBT, before we lose the breed forever.
it is amazing.. there should be people trying to enforce harsher laws on animal cruilty, bad breeding practices, neglectful owners, etc.. instead they are focusing their ignorance on a couple particular breeds of dogs. you cannot place a breed of dog to be responsible for the deeds of few. BAN THE DEED, NOT THE BREED
my great grand parents bred these dogs and both my grand parents and parents, i have been around them ever since i was a baby and never have i been attacked !!!!!!!! kill the deed not the breed !!!!!!!! it is us the superior race (ha ha ) that makes the dogs do what they do not the animals. statistics show pit bulls are 4th from the bottom most likely to bite a human !!!!!!!!!
I have owned and obedience trained pitbulls for eight years. I am a single mother with a six year old daughter and I love the breed with all my heart. Pitbulls are very gentle and family friendly. Please air a show showing the positive side of this wonderful breed.
I am an active Pit Bull advicate. Personally working with the breed in shelters as well as having two of my own. I wouldn't chose another breed if i could.
my aunty had a pitbull of which I grew up with, he was always tame and never hurt anyone heck you could jump foward and say boo and he'd back down scared, so that goes to show pitbulls are not bad it is how their brought up to make them bad, you want another example, if a few people from a certain race jump you, do you judge them as being people? I don't think so why would you judge a dog that way?
pitbulls and pit mixes have proven to me and my rescue group time and time again to be the best breed we have ever worked w/. they continuously prove themselves as wonderful and loyal family pets. They deserve a chance!
Please help us set the record straight with how wonderful this breed is. They need our voice and they need positive pit bull press as they have earned it and deserve it. Education is imperative as the unknown results in fear. What one fears they can not be friends with..
I dont even own a pit bull and I knw better than to pass judgement on them. I've only known them to be sweet and loving. they deserve their rights too.
Having shared the experience of owning a pit bull I have found them to be very loving and loyal family pets. As in any living breathing "thing", they need attention and respect, kinda like children, to become loving respectful family members.
In a loving home, pitbulls are the perfect pet for the entire family. They are loving, tolerent, merry companions. Even after suffering horrible abuse and neglect, they usually hold no grudges and can go on to be rehomed and become grateful and affectionate friends. Abuse and neglect can make a maladjusted killer out of a Lab or any breed. Pitbulls have such a loyal following because they are wonderful dogs.
I've had my pit for close to 3 years now. I couldn't ask for a better dog. I got him as a puppy a couple of weeks before my HS graduation. My parents flipped and said get rid of it. So I did all kinds of research on the breed, and they let me keep him. When I got my house at college i wanted to take him with me but now my family won't let me take him. They fell in love with him. Everyone that comes across him can't believe what a great dog he is. The bottom line is IT IS NOT THE BREED... IT IS THE OWNERS.
We have (1) Female Amstaff 10, (3) Pitbull/Mixes, and our latest rescue adoption is Buck. Buck was a cruelty case because one again "IRRESPONSIBLE" OWNER ship and out and out cruelty was applied against this poor little doggie. They took scissors to 1/2 his ears and 3/4 of his tails. Did this little dog deserve to die! NO, he was given (4) days to be adopted or they would have PTS. HE did no wrong, and deserved a 2nd chance at life! He is the best dog who gives lots of kisses and a loving additional family member! Responsible Ownership is key, as well as education and spaying/neutering! Blame the DEED NOT the BREED!
I was one of those "ignorant" people that thought pit bulls were atrocious animals. That was until I became the unwitting owner of a pitbull. He was abandoned Christmas night at approx 7 weeks of age. We originally thought he was a Boxer mix but as he grew it became apparant he is 100% pit.I have had atleast 1 dog in my household since the day I was born and I have to say this dog is the sweetest, most loving, pleasing dog I have ever owned. I had poodles that were much more aggressive and unpredictible.I have 3 children and he truly is their best friend.I also have 3 other dogs and 4 cats that he gets along wonderfully with. Well actually truth be known the cats beat the heck out of him without so much as a growl EVER from him. It is how they are raised, you have to be a responsible owner. They are what they are taught.
I've been around a few Pit Bulls and the only way they ever caused me pain was the by the wagging tails hitting my leg. The only dog that ever was agressive towards me was a friend's Chihuahua that bit me more than once. BAD OWNERS are the cause the for reputation...NOT THE BREED!
Pit Bulls, American Staffordshires and Staffordshires are three breeds that look very much a like. They were bred to be fighting dogs. That is still in their blood and while I would superduper socialize a Pit/Am Staffie/Staffie pup, I think they're great dogs and shouldn't be banned etc. just because they were bred for something stupid and still have some of that in them.
Dog Owners, like parents with children are responsible for the behavior of their pets (and children).
Legislation of either one doesn't make a better dog owner or parent, and killing dogs doesn't make any of us more responsible for our actions or those of our dogs. Americans have gone to far with too much legislation and too little responsibility.
