Pit bull are great dogs, there only goal in life is to please there master. All dogs have teeth and capacity to bite; pit bull or poodle, the master educates the dog. Also in my opinion people should get dogs that there able to handle, makes no sense to me to see a 12 year old girl or boy walking around whit a 120 pounds rottweiler, the dog could be as gentle as you want he still have an instinct , if any thing happens how do you want a 12 year old kid or even a small person to restrain that dog(i think it might be a problem).Pit bulls are just like every other dog until you do someting else whit it.Talking about banning pits because their"agressive", ive been atacted by a labrador once"familly dog"he left 4 holes in my arm but nobody whant to fobid labs. And what about poodle barking all the time tring to bite everything , if you ask me there a lot more agressive than any other dog its just there to small to do any dammage!!!
PIT BULLS ARE GOOD DOGS LEAVE THEM ALONE.
The APBT was at one time the number one family dog in the US - they are loyal, loving dogs who unfortunately are the current "dog of choice" for too many people who abuse and mistreat them through animal fighting and straight out horrific abuse. These people are not law abiding citizens, much less responsible dog owners. BSL does not affect these types of owners - they just take their abuse and dogs underground. BSL Does take beloved family pets from responsible dog owners/guardians. Far too much of the media is feeding the unreasonable hysteria and fear that is becoming such a "normal" part of U.S. society. Please do not feed into this hysteria. A person is much more likely to be injured or killed in a car accident than by a dog. I am confident that after you listen to the voices on this petition you will interview organizations and individuals such as PBRC, VillaLobos, Diane Jessup (to name just a few), and find the courage to lead the rest of the media in presenting the Truth. Thank you for your time and consideration.
If a child came up to you and called you a raciest name you wouldnt blame the child you'd blame the person who taught it to them. What makes this any different? You mistaking vicious for faithful. I know if someone was coming in to rob my house I would want a pit bull at the door to keep my family safe and if the person trying to harm my family got hurt, that's a price I'm willing to pay for my family!
Of course people are going to pick Pit Bulls to fight, they are the only ones whos jaws lock. You can't blame a dog for fighting because his owner taught him it was loyalty. I've seem small dogs be vicious and bite.. they just aren't big enough or faught for someone to think something of it. If people want to ban Pit Bulls for fighting then we should Ban every ignorant person out there for what they were taught. It's not fair to blame someone for being loyal and back lashing if that was the case every soldier in Iraq should be banned for killing people because they are loyal to United States. Most people who want to ban pit bulls are those who have had a bad experiance. Those who actually own pitbulls would tell you the true story of a caring, protective, wonder, beautiful, loyal, loving AMERICAN pitbull!
Pit Bulls are not vicious animals, they are very loving family dogs, it is the people raising them and their environment which creates bad situations, noone ever hears about other dog attacks, what about German Shepards, Chows, Rotties? They are not human aggressive dogs, they love people and it would break my heart to lose my dogs. If the media would investigate the owners of the dogs which have attached people, they would probably see that they are irresponsible owners or mistreat their dogs. I have 6 pits and they are all great dogs.
Pitbulls aren't monsters. They are just as loving and loyal as any other breed. It is the owners and the breeders that should be blamed. NOT the dogs. Any dog can be aggresive, if not socialized and not raised right. Pittes are dog aggresive, but it isn't in their nature to attack a human. THat is the work of the owner. Punish the deed, not the breed! Stop the BSL!
I have 9 Pitts. All of them are lovers. they have their beds in the house (they like 75 degree temps also. We have a couple that are aggressive but have been trained to obey. They do great with everyone.
I know a number of pits who are pets and are the loveliest dogs you'd want to meet. It's all in the raising/training of the dog... breed has nothing to do with it. If the dog is raised to be aggressive, it will be aggressive. If it's raised with love and trained to be mannerly it will become a beloved friend and companion.
Its about time that authorities realised no breed of dog is bad but rather some of the morons that manage to own them are inept at caring for anything.
Pit bulls have been a part of my life since I was a child and I have never seen any true basis for trying to ban them.
Make people take responsibility dont blame the dogs.
All dogs are good but not all owners are
I believe that some breeds are predisposed to certain attitudes. Protection dogs tend toward suspicion and some aggressiveness of the unknown. Fighting dogs may tend toward certain aggressiveness toward other dogs. These dogs may need an extra abundance of socialization and training....maybe more work than some breeds. It's an owner's responsibility to put the effort into molding a responsible dog and to understand and become educated on their breed and how to handle it.
Fine, canine good citizens of many breeds of questionable repute are seen everywhere, where the owners have put proper care and handling into them.
So, yes...blame the deed not the breed. More appropriately, don't blame the deed either. Blame the owner. Period.
Pit bulls are the best pets ever!! I have an ex-fighter who was rescued from deathrow at a shelter covered in infected wounds. She is the most wonderful, happy, outgoing and people loving dog in the world. She is very "choosy" about the dogs she will accept, and this is a NORMAL pit bull trait, so I take the necessary precautions and do not set her up to fail!! Any pet's behavior can be bad, you cannot condem an entire breed because of it! My best friend was bitten in the face by a Scottie, do you see me out there petitioning to have that entire breed demolished, NO! These dogs deserve life, human beings have bred them and created the problems, let humans be responsible for their dog's actions, regardless of breed! I cannot imagine my life without my beautiful pittie girl!!
Instead of punishing the entire breed, you should be punishing the bad breeders and irresponsible owners as well as those who purposely cause their dogs to be aggressive. This isn't specific to pitbulls and no law should be breed specific as any breed with the wrong human or bad breeding can become aggressive.
UNITED WE STAND!! WE WILL NOT GIVE UP THE FIGHT UNTIL YOU HEAR US!! THERE'S ALOT OF US AND A FEW OF YOU. WE WILL WIN THIS ONE!!!! FOR OUR FAMILY,COMPANIONS,OUR PITS!!!!
Punish the deed, not the breed. Irresponsable owners are to blame not the dogs (much less the breed). It has been proven that "mean-looking" dogs go in and out of fashion. If you ban one breed another will take its place as it is the owner who brings out the aggressive behavior (trains for it) not the true nature of these fine dogs.
Pitties arent born mean..its the owners that make them that way and not just pitts its other breeds too and someone needs to put an end to that b/c Pit bulls are the most loving creatures I know of.
This breed of dogs just wants to be loved and given the right home, they are not an aggressive breed unless you do not take care of them the proper way. I have 3 pitbulls and they all get along with each other and with the neighborhood kids. If you train them to be mean and aggressive they will be. Go after the people you don't care and train this breed to be aggressive and to fight other dog's. Why should we the responsible owners always have to suffer for what the irresponsible owner's do.
No pet is vicious by birth. It is the owners who make them behave the way they eventually do, period. So why kill the dog breed? Why not the people who make them what they become?
I luv pitbulls they are very luving and good dogs I dont care what any says about pits its the bad owners they should go after not pits.Whats funny is allmost all breeds can be mean rotts and german shepreds. Its those dumb ass people who fight them that should be banned!!!gotta go I have to feed my pits now www.americanblueskennels. com
I have two of the most wonderful, sweet, cuddly, loving dogs in the world. I wouldn't trade my pits for any other breed. They are obedient, and entertaining, and always looking for a hug.
If ANY dog has issues, it's because the people caused it. Maybe it would be interesting for the general public to know that President Roosevelt had a Pittie and so did HELEN KELLER!!!! Remember the dog on "Little Rascals"? That was also a Pitbull. So again, people need to understand that the criminals that are fighting these dogs are the ones that should be taken off the streets, not the dogs. These dogs endure absolute hell with the training methods they are subjected too. Sometime go see a dog that's been burned to death alive because he didn't win the fight. And the courts don't think that these people lose touch and move on to committing crimes against people next? Time to wake up!!!
Punish the deed not the breed! These wonderful dogs unfortunately have inherited traits that idiots like to exploit. These are the ones that give the breed a bad name. I wouldn't trade my pitties, rotties in for the world.
I took my AMPT to visit a friend of mine who is in a nursing home. While there a resident who suffered from dementia slapped the dog hard in the face. (I thought she was reaching to pet him) His reaction? A look at her that said "What did you do that for? This is a mean aggressive breed ..NOT! Dogs are a reflection of the owner. Let's petition against APBT owners who misuse these dogs.
Punish the deed not the breed! BSL is ludicrous. Its prejudice. Its like saying all white people are trailer park trash. And all black people eat chicken everyday! Get a grip...
Have you ever saw the Little Rascals? Do you remember their dog Petey? Well take a wild guess as to what kind of dog Petey was. You've guessed it, a Pit Bull. Did you hear about the time Spanky got attacked? What about the time Buckwheat got malled? I'm sure you heard about Darla getting her pony tells bit off. Oh, you haven't. Guess why? Cause it never happened. Petey was around kids everyday on and off TV and you never heard about any of the litte rascals getting bit. Why is that? It's because it's not the dog it's the owner. If you train your dog to attack it will attack. If you see your dog with unwanted behavior you correct it or else it will continue. I have 3 pits and my little brother was 2yrs old. We never had any problems and he used to pull their tails, push them in the nose and they NEVER showed any sign of aggression towards him. I love Pits and I prefer no other dog over them!!!
Pit bulls are loving, playful dogs and get a bad reputation along with rottweilers and dobermans because stupid idiots treat them inhumanely and teach them that humans are to be feared and other dogs are to be fught to the death. People are more likely to be bitten by GOLDEN RETRIEVERS than pits, and that speaks not only to the bad breeding but the treatment pervasive in puppy mill type breeding facilities.
My dog LOVES kids and would never hurt them, or anyone else. Tell FOX they can come check out my dog, I live in VA. He gets along with my 2 younger sisters (8&10), my mom's 2 dogs (a toy poodle and a GSD) and he gets along with EVERY dog he's ever met. He's only met one person he didn't like, and that's because the jerk was abusing him at 6 weeks old. I've had him since he was 8 weeks and you'd never know anything happened to him. He lets little kids pull on him and lay on him. His Vet loves him, and so does everyone at PetSmart. Tell FOX to come look at the dogs like him, not the ones that the wanna be thugs in DC have...
I will never in my life own another breed. Pit Bulls are so loyal, gentle, loving, and full of character. It's sad humanity can turn a great family dog into a vicious animal, BUT any animal can be made this way through cruel, abusive, and horrific ways.
PitBulls are incredibly loyal, loving dogs. It's time to start punishing irresponsible keepers not the dogs themselves. I don't know what I would do without my dear Forrest..
We need to put a ban on bad parents not dogs. Dogs are like children if you treat them kind and with respect they will grow up to make you a very happy parent! (Both Children and Dogs)
I have 13 years old pitbull,he is the most intelligente and gentle dog i've ever met.I know breed over 20 years, pitbulls are wonderfull dogs.
God Save Pitbulls!
I have owned a pit bull terrier when my daughter was small and he was one of the gentlest dogs I have ever had. This is a loyal, intelligent breed that has been misused by people who gain power and money from them.
My son adopted a pit bull from a local shelter. "Flex" is the most gentle, intelligent, loving dog I have ever known. When the family comes to visit, Flex is among them. He's wonderful with the 3 children and 4 cats! He's patient with my rat terrier who is a terror! Even the 83 year old neighbor loves Flex and has to give him a special treat of milk bones each day. I think people should get to know this breed as the heroic, gentle creatures they are.
ive grown up with this breed and now own one at the age of 33. its resembling the gun ban in some states. its not the gun or pit bull that kill innocent people its the ignorant people behind these things that use them for the wrong reason.
Thisi is one of the stupidest Bill's I have ever seen going through the senate. I can't believe you're wasting MY hard earned and ridiculously overtaxed money on matters such as this. Besides, owners generally take responsiblity for the action sof their pets. After all, we're not 10. Thank you.
I have a year old ABPT named Buddy. He is very sweet and gentle. He is my first and will not be my last. Everyone that has met my dog is impressed with his loving ways. Even the older women at the pet store are thrilled by his sloppy kisses. He also has a local fan club. The neighborhood children LOVE Buddy. They can't wait to see him and they beg me to bring him out on walks so they can give him treats and love. It would be great to have some positive press on this breed. Let the public know that ABPT are some of the best narcotics, search and rescue and service dogs in our country. www.understand-a-bull.com has a link titled Heroic Pit Bulls. Look at that link and read the stories. They range from human lives being saved by the dog during robberies and attacks to a loyal service dog of 12 years to a quadriplegic. There are stories about these dogs taking snake bites to protect the owners and dogs who donate blood to help other animals. Look at www.atts.org to see that yes, it is true...the APBT has one of the highest rated temperaments. These dogs compete in agility, flyball and obedience. I know there are many, many other activities they participate in too. So, please do not blame the breed. Blame the loose breeding laws, the irresponsible owners, the abusers and the people who believe in fighting these dogs.
I'VE SEEN PITBULLS ON TV AND THEY WERE AS NICE AS ANY OTHER ORDINARY DOG!!!!!!!
PEOPLE JUDGE TOOOO MUCH!
sorry for typing in this in CAP lockss, I'm seriously ANGRY!!!!!!
I have been doing rescue work for all-breed dogs for approx 10 years. I started out in NC, where there is a horrific epidemic of dog abuse, pitbull fights, and rampid fear spreading ignorance. It has been my experience that this is exactly what has fueled an out of control reputation for certain breeds including Pitbulls. This particular breed is widely known for their intelligence, lovable nature and fierce loyalty. If abused, primed to fight or defend, they will kill. Some of the most popular methods to priming these dogs are they are left on short chains for days and nights at a time, not fed and not cared for, in all kinds of weather and challenging elements. They are taunted and tormented to become vicious. They quickly become savage dogs to survive. They are then fed "nice" dogs such as golden retrievers as bate to learn how to fight. The horrors are very real and very alive in the world and I for one must take any chance to say that education is desperately needed through the media, to enlighten the public as to why the BAD HYPE IS OUT THERE ABOUT PITBULLS. They happen to also be the very dogs that are out there doing rescue work, ie: Nine-Eleven in NYC. They are incredibly awesome animals capable of feats that humans could never withstand. The problem lies solely in how they are raised, and nothing more.
Thank you,
Eve Haslam

More kids are bitten by cocker spaniels than any other breed. Why aren't they being banned? my daughter was attacked by a cocker spaniel/mix when she was a toddler, she had to get 21 stitches in her face. It certainly didn't make the news. If it had been a pit bull the media would have been all over it. I have 3 pit bulls, and my daughter (now grown) has 2 pit mixes of her own. The only thing you'd have to worry about walking into either one of our homes is being kissed to death!
Go after the irresponsible owners, not the dogs.
My Pit Bull Dottie is the sweetest dog. She loves anybody and everybody who comes over. Her sister is a chihuahua and she is sooo easy with her. I think the public needs to know the truth about pit bulls, the are not vicious animals if the irresponsible owners don't make them that way. The pit bull is one of the most intelligent and loving dog.
PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED!
Our pit is a great dog. Very smart, obeying verbal commands and hand signals. Loves all people and animals. His greatest joy is meeting new people. He has never even growled, much less shown any aggression toward anyone. The pit-bull scare is WRONG!
Our sweetie Rommel is a complete lover. He plays with our Irish Terrier mix endlessly, herds the 2 cats so they won't run out the back door when it is opened to let the dogs into the back yard. Rommel's favorite thing is to cuddle and nap next to you while you're reading a book. He snores. He's adoreable. He's enriched our lives immeasurably! We are crazy about him. He loves his meals and tries to eat his terrier sister's meals too if she doesn't eat her breakfast or dinner fast enough.
