My daughter was attacked by a Pit Bull in 1999 because the ownder taught the dog to be brutal. Since then, my husband and I have started an American Pit Bull Terrier Kennel and have dedicated a portion of its' proceeds to help this cause.
My husband and I are the proud "parents" of two pitbulls. They are the most loving and loyal dogs that anyone could ever want. I love to see the faces of parents when their kids run up to meet the dogs, and are greeted with wagging tails and dog kisses. The parents are often terrified by the size and look of the dogs, but are usually won over after getting to see what the breed is really like. It is the responsibility of every dog owner to socialize their dog and to give them a loving home. It seems that lots of the wrong people are attracted to this breed and treat them badly, as weapons instead of members of the family. If this mentality would stop, then we'd see less of these dogs making the headlines with negative reports. Remember...Petey from the Lil' Rascals was a pit! No one back in those days thought twice about the breed as being dangerous. We need to blame the owners, not the breed for bad behavior.
I have owned 5 American pitbull's since I was 5 yrs old and all of them were excellent dogs. They ALL were very good with children. These dogs very often get an unfiar bad rap. If they were the brutal violent dogs that is assumed and reported how could all 5 dogs from different bloodlines and litters all be good gentle family dogs?? ...by the way my brother has had/ has 3 of them as well and they were all great dogs as well
My old roommates had pit bulls and they were some of the sweetest dogs I have ever been around.The dogs themselves are not a problem it is the owners who raise them wrong that is the issue.
With shows on the Fox network like Family Guy and the Simpsons, one would think that the truth about pitbulls would be a "no-brainer." I guess telling the truth in the media has become as rare as the DoDo. For once, can't the truth be the news?
My daughter and son in law raise show Pitt Bulls, I own 2 doxies and a golden retreiver, the pitt bulls are the sweetest dogs I know I have never seen the slightest sign of agression, in fact I don't even think they are really good watch dogs, the greet everyone the same, with a wagging tail and a big kiss, I love my "grand dogs" my little doxies are more aggressive than any of the Pitt Bulls I have ever seen. I have never worried about them with my grand children. It is never the dog of any breed it is the owner, that can train any dog to be agressive, stop this nonsence and leave this loyal loving breed alone.
We have had 5 American Pitbull Terriers over the past 13 years Thant have grown up with both of our Children and would not own any other breed. They are the smartest, sweetest dogs and we love them very much
I have always had pitbulls for my pets and they are the best dogs I have found. Mine is very protective of my children and he sleeps in bed with them and lets my 2 yr. old daughter pull his ears, play in his food while he is eating, sit on him. All he wants in return is to be loved, which he is very much.
BSL is Bull Shit. I would not be here today if it were not for a american staffordshire terrier who made me get up that night and see what was wrong! Leak in gas had lighted and was about to catch the house on fire, he got me up just in time.
This law would purport to ban "a member of a class of dogs that have an appearance and physical characteristics that are substantially similar to … { (a) a pit bull terrier, (b) a Staffordshire bull terrier, (c) an American Staffordshire terrier, (d) an American pit bull terrier}". How naïve can any member be who votes for this? How can a law be enforced when the very essence of it depends on the opinion, interpretation or decision of a local official? Will the official be trained to recognize and determine breed type? Experienced dog judges who examine thousands of dogs a year cannot always agree on which dog in a class most closely resembles the ideal of that breed; yet they have all had to study the breeds and pass exams to be certified as judges. And now the Legislature is about to let non-experts make similar judgments? The sad fact is that it is not a ribbon lost or gained here, but possibly a loved pet’s very existence. Do we convict when someone only is "substantially similar to" the perpetrator? Certainly we can do better than that! Make a law that targets the offender; don’t convict a whole group in advance because some member may in future be an offender.

I am a dog trainer and have 7 Pit Bull terriers/ mixes registered in our classes. They are absolutely wonderful, sweet and energetic dogs. I must add that they have very responsible owners and that's why the dogs are the way they are.
If this stupid law passes I would rather have the people not come to our school than insist that they muzzle these wonderful pets. They wounldn't understand why they are being punished. This is a most unfair law made by people who don't know a pit bull from a bull mastiff. Why not take the advice of people that know. Mr. Bryant, you have closed your ears to all those in the know. If you could only listen instead of acting in an irrational manner. This law is wrong.
I am currently the guardian of 4 American Staffordshire terriers. I have owned other pure bred and mixed breed dogs in the past but have found these dogs to be the most devoted compainions you can have. Bad behavior is a learned behavior. The irresponsible owners are the ones to be punished not the breed.

I have a pitbull, and he is the sweetest dog I have met. His brother is a Jack Russell, and he plays so gentle with him, and he shares all of his toys and food with him. Pitbulls are sweet and smart, and they deserve to be treated like any other breed.
I have been a professional dog trainer now for 10 yrs . and have met many many mean dogs. they were NOT pit bulls. Most Behaviours that dogs do are incouraged by their owners, Intentionally or by accident. Pit bulls are NO different than other dogs. I own 2 of the breed and am getting a third, they are a fabulous breed when raised and trained by loving and caring people.

Pit Bulls rank 4th from the very bottom end of the list of dogs most likely to bite. It is time that everyone know the truth about pit bulls and that because of the name and a bad reputation due to irresponsible people, there should be no need to punish those who do the right thing and raise their dogs around kids, other people and other animals in hopes to change others' view of the American Pit Bull Terrier and want to have a very loving member of their family.

Deal with the real problem. Punish the deed not the breed. This breed specific legislation is not solving the real problem. There are always going to be irresponsible pet owners out there. It will not matter if a particular breed is banned or not. People need to be educated. I never thought I would own a APBT however I have a 7 month old female. We will be gratuating from obedience school soon. She is the top dog in our class. I have learned so much from this class and I continue educating myself by reading and researching all I can. I am determined to be a breed ambassador for her. She is the most affectionate loving dog I have ever owned. People need to take responsiblity for their own actions.

This is an embarrassment for Ontario. Banning pitbulls, Am Staffs and Staffie Bulls will not stop bites and will cost us untold tax dollars as municipalities scramble to identify, seize, house and destroy the innocent along with the guilty. Michael Bryant says the majority of people support this ban, but he has not produced any numbers, groups or anything to support this. The DSL hearing in Barrie, he seems to know nothing about. I have a pittbull and he's the best dog in the world. he's not aggessive at all. and he's great with kids. Im thinbking about getting another puppy.my friends have pittbulls best breed of dog in the world.

It is time for all owners of all breeds to come together and stop this lunacy. I have owned a pitbull since June of 2004. She is a doll!!!! My house insurance got cancelled because I have a pitbull. I had to pay double through another insurance compny for coverage, but she is worth it!!!!
I have owned pit bulls for 3 years now and have found them to be a very sweet versatile dog that loves family. We have 4 pits and they are all very social and friendly to everyone. It's the irresponsible owners that are doing the harm. Not the breed. The public needs to understand this and enforce stricter rules on the owners that are irresponsible.
I have owned the American Pit Bull Terrier since 1996. They are a wonderful breed and extremely versatile. I have earned titles with my dogs in conformation, obedience, agility and weight pull; as well as canine good citizenship and temperament tested with ATTS. Any dog can cause a problem, thanks to prior media hysteria now punks think pits are the breed for them and that is unfortunate. Please do a segment on the truth about pit bulls. There is no genetic basis for any breed being more aggressive or dangerous than another. It is irresponsible ownership behind dog bites, not dogs. With strick liability laws against owners, there would be a reduction in irresponsible owners, follwoed by a reduction in dog bites.
I own two, a female apbt and a male amstaff. but I know personaly about 20-30 different apbt and I have never experienced any human aggesion from them. The breed is the most human gentle breed of them all

I hate the stereotype that pitbulls are aggressive dogs. It is all about how they are raised and trained. My pit is just as loving as a lab. They can be as sweet as any other dog, so i'm tryin to get rid of the stereotype on pitbulls.
I could never ask for a better dog then my pitbull, maverick. He is loveing and friendly with strangers,but at the same time a loyal friend and great protector. He only acts aggressive when strangers act aggressive with me
My daughter owns 3 pit bulls and they are terrific dogs- so lovable!!! They have gotten a bad rap over the years like Dobermans and German Shepards did in their time. I feel it is the owners and the training the dogs are given that make bad dogs!

It is time to wake up people. It is bad owners that are the problem. I do not own a pit, but I have friends that do and everyone of them are as loving as any other dog. I own a Cocker Spaniel, you know that sweet, cute doggie. Well he bit me. Can we get the media to write an article about that. I DON'T THINK SO.

I am the proud and loving owner of 3 pitbulls, ranging in ages,...6y, 4y, and 3y. They are the most loving, loyal and sweet dogs. We have had the oldest since he was a pup, the middle one since she was a pup as well (her former owner had no time for her) and the 3rd was rescued from a very abusive home, where she was beaten regularly before the age of 9months. They are all in wonderful health and spirits. The biggest problem we have with them, is that they all think they're lap dogs. Combined they weigh easily 200lbs. We have various children visit and all these dogs care about is being pampered by the little hands. There are no bad dogs, only BAD OWNERS.

I am the owner of two red-nosed pitbulls, a 3 year old female and her 5 month old male puppy. I have had the mom for about 9 months, she was abused the first 2 years of her life. I never owned any dog in my life before, and I fell in love with this sweet loving dog immediately. Even though she was trained to fight other dogs she has never shown any aggressive behavior towards me or my family. I have two children at home and a 2 year old grandson around. Every one in our neighborhood knows and loves our sweet dogs. It will break my heart if the ban goes through and I have to muzzle my dogs when we go play in the nearby park. Get rid of cruel dog owners not the dogs.
I am a proud owner of a 2 yr. old male pitbull. He has been a member of my family since puppyhood. I have 6 grandchildren and he has the perfect temperment with them. He is extremely patient and tolerant. Of course we are responsible owners and monitor the interaction between him and the children. When one of the babies sits on him, drops yogurt on his head, steps on his tail he just lays there like it doesn't even phase him. I too have noticed the predjudice against my dog from people when we are out for a walk. My dog makes no movement toward other people or dogs, no barking yet people are crossing the street to get away from us. I feel that responsible owners are being predjudiced against because of a few irresponsibe owners. Lets make the owners pay and stop giving the dogs such a bad rep. My dog loves to cuddle, sleep on my bed, play catch, follow the kids around hoping for a crumb to fall. He is loyal and loving. I can't understand why anyone would want to hurt him,
when we are out walking I fear for him, the danger he may be in due to the ignorance of other people and the ridiculous laws that have been put in place. How about some common sense people?
I think that it is very important that Pit Bull owners pull together so that the truth will be shown about our loving and loyal pets. They are not aggressive dogs when they are born, they are raised that way by very stupid people who should be punished. Owners like me and my friends should not be punished because we raise our dogs the right way and we are trying to show people that they don't have to believe the stereotype that all pits are mean. If you can ban one dog for supposedly being mean and aggressive then you will also have to ban every other dog that has had a violent act in their history, which is just about every dog there is!!!! Any animal can be aggressive depending upon how it was raised and I do not think that Pits should be banned because of a few uneducated people think so. And when I say uneducated I mean the fact that they know nothing of the joys of owning an American Pit Bull Terrier. So get your facts straight before you try to mess with pit owners because most of the time we are more aggressive than our dogs!!!!!
It's total trash. My dog is not aggressive and he has poeple walking across the street when they see us coming. I always here poeple muttering under thier breath, "look dear it's the neighborhood pitbull hear to kill someone child" I have also had enough of making sure of that i don't bring my dog by accident to one of these BAN CITY's where they would rather address a socail problem they just shoot the dogs. Personally my dog is the kindest and most docile animal out there. He is from champion bloodlines and for that reason he has a good temperment, BUT IT's THE MORONS not the dogs at fault. A pure Amstaff or Staffie is not dangerous because all aggressiveness tendencies towards humans has been breeded out, due to the fact that they are a fighting dog. During those days dogs that would not release, when broken off of a fight or that bit owners or ring hands were shot on site. Therefore any poeple aggression would slowly be breed out of the pool due to the deaths of such dispositioned dogs. The honest truth is that America isn't fixing the problems within itself. It's just running away from them. Cocker Spaniels bite and injure more children in a year than pitbulls/ Amstaffs. Yet To provide the american mothers with a quick fix we blame every dog attack on the OMNIPOWERFUL PITBULL, even considering that 85 % of these attacks have nothing to do with staffie amstaffs/pits. America should stop certian poeple from getting such dogs, and they should also crack down on the dog fighting market. THEY SHOULD NOT PUNISH THE DOG BECAUSE some mother who has never even seen a amstaff THINKS THEY ARE TOO DANGEROUS, to conicide in THE US WITH HER FAMILY.HEY GOVERMENT POEPLE DO YOUR HOMEWORK

As a new amercian pit bull terrior owner my family and I have been very impressed. We had another "killer" breed (doberman) for 8 years and always got the media and movie hype about them being viscious. Any one around our dogs knew instantly they were devoted family dogs. My wife had a pit groing up and when we had our doby put to sleep she suggested a pit bull. Even after having a doby I fell into the media of "viscious killer dogs." I was really suprised when we looked at breeders how sweet all the dogs were. After studying up on the breed, Realized that 1% of the idiot owners shame 99% of the good pits.The dogs have a natural agressivness towards other animals, not humans! It would be nice to see the other side of the media hype. I am a big supporter of fox news a would gladly support non-biased reporting about the apbt.
I do belieive people owning these dogs should required to complete a given number of training at their own expense. They are good, loyal dogs and if raised propely and not bred for gameness, then they are fine.
pits are very loving and loyal dogs. i should know cause ive got five pits and i havent encountered the nastiness they are claiming that these dogs have. the aggressiveness in general and regardless of their breeds, will only come out if the owners are not responsible enough to train them well. training matters most than their breeds. there are other dogs of other breeds which are small but can be feisty and temperamental if not properly trained and will definitely bite you.
pits are loyal and loving. If you try to ban pits you're going to have to breed all agressive dogs and that would be nearly impossible b/c all breeds have aggressive members
i have pits-they are my best friends-loyal and very friendly-anyone with a negative attitude towards them has never met/owned one-show them love and they will love you forever
