Pitties are the victms.....if the media would like to redeem themselves(somewhat)a TRUTHFUL news segment would get them on the right track.Although this broadcast wont undo the terrible and untruthful rap the media has given the breed...it would help
Well, well here we go again with the Media, if it’s not one thing it’s another. I can not get over the fact that they can put blame on a particular breed of dog. As fare as I am concerned I have owned many different breeds of dogs from Bull Mastiffs to Pitty’s and it takes one thing to happen and they are all over it like fly’s to shit. It is up to the owner as to how the dogs are raised, it is one thing to have a dog who will protect you and another to have a dog who will attack someone, a good owners know the difference.
I have owned two pitbulls. I now have a pit mix which my wife and have rescued from the pound. we have two children 6 month old twin girls. which we would not have anyother dog than a pitbull breed. around them. i have read some of the other posts and a lot of other people on here have said, a dog is only as good as his/her owner. you can train anydog to be "vicious" the pitbull breed just gets the bad rap cause some bad people used these dogs for really bad things. just like it is said about people, hatred isn't bred its tought these dogs are amazing i don't know what i would do with out my dog.
I have two small children and have owned two pitbulls. The one we have now is a pit/american bulldog mix. The one we own now we got from the pound. He loves my children and has never shown any agression! It is truly unfair the bad name Pits have got because they are no different from other dogs.. Yes they have animal instincts, but they are not vicious killers by any means!
I have owned pit bulls my entire life and never once has any of my pits even attempted to approach me with anything other than love and playfulness. This ban is a hate crime and I hope it fails misereably.
I have owned 3 pitbulls over the past 16 years and about to take on another from the animal shelter. They have proven to be loving, loyal and very intelligent dogs. Don't blame the failings of some humans on pitty's they deserve better and if you look into it and get to know them you will know that is true. Educate people. Anti-pitbull people who spent time around my dogs fell in love with them. Amazing to some, not to those who know these dogs!!
Having a pitbull for five years has been a great privelage. My family loves having a pitbull as a pet. to my experience pitbulls are non aggressive and my dog is a huge and wonderful part of my family.
I have had a number of different breeds of dog & have found my Pitty's the most loyal and loving of them all. When a dog wants do nothing but cuddle, how can you call it dangerous. So really it's the owner that turns a dog, so instead of worring about the breed, we need to focus on the owners. Fellow pitty lovers get in and sign Petition.
My wife and I have a One Year old American Pitbull, he is soo gentle with kids, and other animals. He gets taken to dog parks, and other public places. Half the time people will speak of how well behaved he is, and how nice he is before knowing the breed. Pitbulls actions are based on how they are raised. Yes I think this breed isn't for everyone. Fox, you need to read these petitions and interview owners-people that have them as family pets, to really get an understanding of how this breed truly is. Kind, and gentle.
It makes me so mad, b/c the people banning the breed, have never owned one, all they hear is the media's bullshit, which is taken out of context half the time. I say punish the owner, those that own them know that the dog will do what they were taught to do. My baby is raised with two cats, and a yorkie and he (2 years old, and not nutered) has never shown any aggression. I really hate hippies!
my Pit Bull is the best dog that I have ever owned and I plan and getting another one in the next couple of years. They are the best pet one could have.
Any dog will turn out "incorrectly" if placed in the WRONG" hands, just as any dog will turn out "correctly" if placed in a well adjusted home. Pitbulls are no exception. They are AS LOVING, perhaps more so than the "average" breed, when involved with a family that loved and cares for them. To own one is to know, and unless you do, you will NEVER fully understand the "Bully". PLEASE don't blame the dogs. We ALL know where the "fault" really lies. I hope all of you at Fox will not continue to be swayed by your own media hype. Because that's ALL it is!!! H Y P E !!!!!Try owning one, then the TRUTH will prevail!
pits do get a bad rep the pit i have now is one of the best and smart dogs i have owned. i found her on the streets in Dec she was only skin and bones when we took her in we did not know how she was going to act or how she was raised we later found out she was beaten and starved at her previuos home but know she is happy and healthy and not aggressive at all
I am amazed at the mere thought that an entire breed of dog could or would be considered dangerous! As a Conformation Judge I have been in contact with thousands of American Pit Bull Terriers. They are one of the most gentle and misunderstood creatures on this earth. Education is what is needed here, genocide is NOT THE ANSWER!!
I Personally Own a Pitt Bull, who is the Sweetest Guy you would ever meet. All he wants is his head in your lap and to be your friend, I hope that one day the media will get ther head out of there butts and do a storry that is True about the Nature of Pitt Bulls
Pit bulls by nature are non-human agressive. Irresponsible owners need to be held accountable for all breeds, they are the ones creating the problems, not the breed.
i have two pitbulls. one is 9 month and the other is 2 yrs old. both of them have complete obedience 2 and both finished 1st in there class. they really are great dogs. my neighbor and his kids play with my dogs while they wait for the school bus every day. they only thing harmfull about these dogs are the pressure on you when there sitting in your lap.
I love my Pittbull and could not imagine my life without her. She is just as much a part of my family as my kids. She has never shown agression toward anyone. She is just a big lover!!
I have owned bull dogs for 16 yrs...currently own a AB Bulldog and English Bulldog unaltered males..raised with my 16 yr old daughter..and the only thing I have to say is a dog is only as smart as his owner..the Bullies are getting a bad rap..
if the dog has teeth it can bite just as your young children do at age two...I have volunteered at local animal shelters, worked at local vets as volunteer and i can say from experience its not the breed its the humans raising that paticular breed..I have had a German Shepard chase me down and bite me..and they are admired by our local police...I have also been bitten by a rat terrier in my knee seven times...I have never been attacked by a pit or bully..
Education and Breed Research before ownership is the answer if you know your animal you know how to handle them...
I have a pitbill that we rescued from an abusive house that is the greatest dog ever. I have 3 kids ages 7months, 3 years, and 5 years and he loves them so much and is so protective of them. The day he shows aggression is the day I'll be a billionaire.
I have a pit bull, and two kids, 6 and 4. she has done nothing but love and play with us. she is a part of our family and has allways been a perfect pet, and companion
Something has to be done about the bad rap that this amazing breed has some how managed to accumulate. I love my pit bull, he is like my best friend!!!
Lets get the puplic educated on the so called "pitbull problem," do a show on bad owners and curupt media, who do a story on a "pitbull attack," when its obvious to any breeder, that the dog in question isn't a pitbull. The media loves to feed off peoples fears!
first i would like to say i'm glad someone has taken a pledge,to let people know that pitbulls get a bad name, just because there pitbulls...it all depends on how there raised and treated...i have seen alot of pitbulls over my life time..and that is the key with any breed. pitbulls are awesome dogs !!!
If you have not had a pitbull you have no right to say their a bad dog...I think it is not far for people to say their bad dogs and that they should be put down i love my pitbull and i would never put him down for some unfar law!
Someone needs to educate the public about dogs in general...ANY breed can be bad and this is one of the most loveing and loyal breeds on the face of the Earth !
Of course I was a little weary of "Pitt bulls" because of what society had put into my and many other peoples heads. After living with two of the most beautiful and loving animials I have ever encountered I was put at ease to the nonscense that society has created. Ignorance is not bliss.
my pit bull was found on the road he was about 5to6 wks old,a cop friend told me that he was going to a shelter and put to sleep in 30 daysso i went and looked at him,he was a ulgy cuss at first.but when i got him home and started playing with him.he was the most intelgent dog ive ever saw learned fast.i named him troy he just turned 8 he come into my life at a very badfor me.he has stolden my heart.
I have done a dog sport called "flyball." The dogs that race are ALL OFF LEASH & all have HIGH DRIVE. Not one pit bull or am. staff has EVER ATTACKED human or dog. These dogs are all family pets & love to play ball. Irresponsible owners create "biting dogs." Punish the owners, don't ban breeds.
I work in an animal shelter and deal with "pit bulls" on a regular basis as they are the most aboandoned and abused breed type. I have NEVER been biten or felt afraid of these dogs. They hold a special place in my heart and I would never be the same if they were to be banned.
I am an own, show, and occasionally breed APBTs. I have nothing but great things to say about this breed. I have had pitbulls for the last 8 years. They have been raised as a part of my family with my two children and I have never had any problem. You will not find a more lovable or loyal breed. It's all about the way you raise em! And that goes for any breed.
I just got a Pitbull puppy because someone who dosn't deserve to be consider a human left her and brother in a box outside a conveniant store in the middle of January. She is the cutest little thing. She is so smart and listens verywell. But it really aggrevates me when people ask me what kind of dog she is, when I tell them a Pitbull I get the look. But yet they have no problems coming into my house with my 3 year old Rottweiler (another dog with a bad name). She is the biggest baby there is. When a child acts up we blame the parents well its time humans take responsility for the way these animals are rised. They depend on us just like children-don't let them down!!!
Breed specific bans don't work. To punish an old, old established dog breed because of the sick folks who breed and cross breed them and use them in situations guaranteed to make a stick vicious is absolutely ludicrous. Punish the deed NOT the BREED.
I have had pitbulls almost my entire life. I am a 37 yr old mother of three & have NEVER had a problem with any of my dogs being agressive or anything. They are nothing but loveable & dedicated dogs that my children can trust & play with. They need to have their reputation cleared!
I live in goergia and the legislators are trying to pass a ban on pit bulls, and staffordshire terriers. Ive owned and breed pits and staffs for about 6 years, i can not imagine how someone could sleep at night knowing that they had proposed this ban that will kill thousands of dogs . Think about like this if a dog fighter fights a dog a week for twenty years and loses every dog, he still hasn't killed but a thousand dogs . If they pass this law the law makers will not only kill hundreds of thousands of dogs but a whole breed. I ask you who has done the worst damage in the long run?
As the owner of several big dogs including Rottweilers and a Staffie, I can tell you that there is nothing dangerous about them when they are brought up in a good home with responsible owners. While we are focusing on these dogs, what's happening to the irresponsible owners? We see it time and again. Their dogs are removed and a month later, they've got another one. We need better education for the public and dog owners and stiffer penalties for those who continue to give good owners and good dogs a bad name.
No puppy is born inherently vicious, they are made that way as they grow up in the wrong hands of dangerous people. We should be safeguarding these puppies against the humans that turn them into vicious dogs, with bad reputations, not condemming them to death because of the humans that they end up with!!!!!!!! The owners are the ones that should be comdemmed to jail time and horrendous fines, as well as a lifetime ban on possessing an animal of any kind, that should be enforced, not just put down on paper and then ignored!!!!!! Some of the most wonderful, friendly dogs in a veterinary practice I spend a great deal of time at, are the pitbulls, and staffies.Punish the deed not the breed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Irresponsible owners are the cause, not the Breed. Education is needed, not banning breeds.
Please help educatethe public about the TRUTH of these dogs, and how it is the OWNERS who raises and trains them that determine how a dog turns out, not the breed it's self.
Punish the deed, not the breed. Aggression in a dog is not a matter of a specific breed. It's the responsability of humans to train their dog, to socialize them and to supervise them in all situation. Banning pit bulls or any other breed will certainly not resolve agressions problems.
As a Rottweiler owner, I understand the frustration of these reputations. I would love to see something done with the reputation of this breed. I agree it's the owners not the dog itself. Please make people aware of this. Help out everyone everywhere.
Punish the deed, not the breed. If it's not pitbulls it will be another breed... this is a bandaid solution to the much bigger problem of irresponsible owners.
I really hope that fox news does this segment. Because I wish that EVERYONE could feel the love and positive energy that I get from my PITS everyday!!! One day will beat all those one track mind people. There by far the best breed in my book!!
No doubt some pit bulls are dangerous
because pf their breeding. Rather than ban a breed, make it manitory that all owners of pit bulls attend an
obedience class.
PUNISH the DEED and the unresponsible owners NOT the BREED
I also have been a trainer for 24+ years and have NEVER had any problem with a Pitbull or Bully type dog.I will say though that I have had problems in the past with other breeds.I have found that the Bully type dogs that I have encountered weither at Dog sports or in classes have been wonderful happy go lucky dogs.
Pitbulls are wonderful dogs. It annoys me to no end to constantly read and hear about the FEW instances that are caused by inappropriate and inmature owners who raise these dogs to be dangerous. I've owned two pits and none of them have had an ounce of viciousness in them. Let's please stop the discrimination. Pitbulls get just as wrongful publicity as the black man and others who are wrongfully portrayed. Please air a special on the kindness of this dog and the importance of free choice when it comes to willful owners wanting to raise such a wonderful pet.
Breed Banning is not the solution. We need to look at agressive dogs in all breeds not just a specific breed. We also need to look at the owners and the owners responsibility when they have and aggresssive dog.
We should not blame the dog for the actions of its handler/ownrr. If the owners of these dogs do not take the time to prpoerly socialize them and train them then the owner shoudl pay the price not the breed. The same can be said of any breed and not just the bully breeds.
I've just adopted a Pitbull/ collie mix (strange I know) and Ive had no promblem with aggressiveness what so ever. The only problem Ive had is him licking too much! All he wants to do is cuddle all day long and watch TV.
I've been in the dog fancy since 1969 and haven't ever seen an aggression problem in a Pit Bull or Am Staff. Many other breeds have left their mark on me and others have attacked or attempted to attack other dogs at events I've attended. So, I agree whole heartedly with the statement "Punish the deed, not the Breed". There is simply no valid reason to brand all Pit Bull or Pit Bull type dogs vicious or dangerous. It's a glittering generality and makes no sense.
I sincerely hope FOX news will make a hearty attempt to be the voice of reason in this battle over ignorance.
Thanks!
I have been a dog trainer since 1981, thats 24 years and I have never had a client come to me with a problem/agressive pit type dog. I get lots of potential biters in other breeds every week.Pit Bull Terriers are not inherently dangerous. They are as dangerouse as those who keep them. If they are owned by responsible people they become responsible dogs if owned by criminals they can become criminal. Punish the deed not the breed.Owners make thier dogs what they want them to become.
I personally don't own a pit bull but have met many over the years through sports such as flyball etc. and have not seen a problem. I believe it is the trainers not the breed and I also say Punish the Deed not the Breed

I have been "in dogs" as a breeder, trainer, handler and exhibitor for over thirty years. I have NEVER met a nasty bully of any type. Media has condemned the innocent. All over this province are children who have faced or will face the deliberate exocution of a loved family memeber. Meanwhile the real culprits, the idiots who get these dogs to serve as personal weapons, as guards against the police and others who threaten their drug businesses, or use these dogs for pit fights, will continue underground. Please show the public the true nature of these dogs.
Media has created this problem, and the politicians have used the hype to suit their own ends. Media has to be part of the solution to the problem they helped create.
I personally own three of this breed type and everywhere they have ever been they are loved. The vets that have taken care of them to any classes that they have been in are all unanimous in their opinion of my dogs - they are wonderful.
I know that it has been said over and over, but one more time -
Punish the Deed NOT the Breed.

In the 20+ years that I have worked with dogs (as vet tech, kennel operator, trainer) I have never been bitten or threatend by a Pit Bull or other Bully type breed. I have however, been bitten by other breeds of dogs. Aggression is not 'breed specific' > it is an individual characteristic of some dogs .. of all breeds, just as human aggression is not particular to one race but is an individual characteristic of some people ... of all races. When did our society lose control over its common sense? If we want to eradicat aggressive behaviour in dogs, we need to study and understand aggressive behaviour and its triggers ... and deal with it. We need not to focus on one breed of dog over another, but rather, to focus on 'behaviour'. We need to promote responsible dog ownership through public education.
There are many, many more pit bulls and American Staffy Bull Terriers who have enhanced or saved lives than who have killed or damaged people...many more. Please focus on the positive aspects of these and ALL Dogs, rather than the negative minority. Legislation should be aimed at irresponsible breeders and owners of any dog breeds, then dog attacks from any breed will decrease.
You have the power to make a positive difference...please do so!
I have practiced Veterinary medicine for 33 years and can honestly say I have had virtually no problems with bad behaviour from any pitbulls, Am Staffs etc. in the setting of my ofice, a very high stress situation. The same cannot be said of various other breeds and individual dogs. Condemn the bad owners, not the poor dogs who have been selected by these owners and then been not trained or poorly trained. It is the cognizant being who is at fault in the event of bad dog behaviour, not the helpless dog
I persoanlly have owned three of these wonderful, gentle, loyal dogs.
The dogs in the news are not the news it is the owners who should be the news. Everything on earth has the capatisity be made mean under the right circumstance.

The only breed I would ever own is the APT. Wonderful, fun loving, extremely intelligent, goofy clowns are what these dogs are all about! I have done my research since rescuing my (2) pitbulls and they are the most abused dog in US history. Why do people believe the untruthful lies of the media? I would love to see a show about these dogs to show the world the truth. I will own a pitbull to the day I die because they are truly the best!!
My aunt has a lab mix that has bitten 5 people..my pitbull has been exposed to many people and has never been a problem! people need to be educated and not lead by the myths! Only the ignorant believe pitbulls are bad...they are what you raise tjem to be....just as children live what they learn, pitbulls live by what they learn!
I own a bullboxer (boxer-pitbull mix). This dog does not have any concept of aggression, he simply loves everyone. I owned and handled many dogs in my 37 years and had been seriously bitten once... by a colly.
I agree with Stephanie. Any dog can bite! I was bit by a tiny poodle! But I think the case is just the strength of a Pit Bull's jaw muscles. But they can be trained to be nice too. My neighbor owns a pit bull and it is just the sweetest thing!
I own a Staffordshire Terrior and he is the most timid affectionate dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning.Shame on the media for making Pit Bulls look like killers!I myself have been attacked by huskies, Poodles, and even Labrador retrievers, but never a Pit Bull. What People should be doing is pushing for stricter adoption policies when it comes to Pit Bulls and responsible ownership.
