The breed normally has a high drive, but does not mean they are dangerous. Majority of issues are owner related and denial. This is a great breed in the right situation.

I do not own a pit bull, but my 6 year son's father owns FIVE! I have to admit, I was a little hesitant to have that many dogs around my child, especially when my son was only a weekend vistor at his dad's. BUT once I witnessed first hand how much those dogs cared for and loved my son, I can't help but be an advocate for their rights. I totally agree with the statement "It's the owner, not the dog". These dogs don't deserve discrimination, just better owners.

What should be banned is the irrisponsible owner not the dog. My daughter owmes a pitbull and I love the dog, she is funny and loves to play, I enjoy being around her. Who does the government think they are telling us what we can and can't have? I thought they worked for us?

I am a mother to a 8-month old daughter and an APBT. Well I should say that my puppy is 'owned' by my daughter. The APBT is the best family dog anyone could have. My daughter just learned to crawl and she's fascinated by the dog bowls. She crawled over to the food bowl one morning while Tino was eating and stuck her hand in the bowl to get his food. All he did was look at her, then at my husband and me, then he moved over to the other side of the bowl and continued eating. Would a 'vicious' dog have done that? The only thing my puppy does that even resembles viciousness is stealing all the blankets at night and taking up half of the bed... I mean that is so vicious. No breed is 'born' mean! It's ignorant people who make them mean. Anyone who thinks pit bulls should be banned in any part of the world deserves to be put through what some people put their dogs through. The idiots out there who fight their dogs are the ones who should be punished... Why don't we put all of them to sleep?? Not the dogs who only want to please their owner.. Maybe then our country wouldn't be so ignorant..

The only thing Brownie, my dog, has ever done to hurt a person is to whip their legs with his tail because he is so excited to see them. He is the most genuine dog I have ever met. He loves everyone just because, not because they are going to feed him or whatever. he is not aggressive at all. I can put my hand in his food dish while he is eating, and he just steps back and waits until I am done. When I take him to my parent's, if their dog starts eating his food, he just stands and watches her until she is done, then he takes his turn. There was a black lab that lived in my apt complex that tried to get at Brownie several times, but brownie would just stand their watching. Speaking of dangerous, what kind of person would name a dangerous animal Brownie? It's just not possible for him to be dangerous with a name like that.

THERE ARE NO BAD DOGS...JUST BAD OWNERS!!!!! This breed gets alot of bad publicity. Mostly because the attacks were a result of animals that were improperly cared for. "Pit Bulls" are a very social breed. When left isolated and/or abused ANY dog can be aggressive. My dog was a 1 year-old pound rescue. She was obviously neglected and beaten. Since her adoption, she is a stellar companion and has incouraged many people to change their minds about the breed and get one of their own! I grew up with many different breeds of dogs, and I have yet to find a dog with as much intelligence, affection, devotion and emotion as the one that I own. By the way, my dog has a pet cat (which she adopted) and a puppy...and a nephew that she takes very good care of.

I am signing this petition because Pit Bulls are not harmful unless the wrong person does something stupid. It is natural for pits to protect themselves and any loved ones around. They know who the bad ones are. But on the other side, they are extremely playful and sweet. I've been around plenty of pits and not a single one has ever showed me their "bad" side. Pits are like any other dog inside, maybe it's just their appearance that make people so scared. But don't judge a book by it's cover, you know?

Kirkland, Washington, has restrictions on dangerous dogs, described as: (1) any dog with a known propensity, tendency or disposition to attack unprovoked, to cause injury to, or to otherwise endanger the safety of humans or other domestic animals; or (2) a pit bull. “Pit bull” means any dog known by the owner to be at least partially of the breed American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, or American Staffordshire Terrier, or a dog declared by the city to be a pit bull, after opportunity for a hearing.” Now to me that sounds like any dog with even the smallest percentage of pit bull is deemed a dangerous dog. A dog could look like a Labrador but actually be some percentage pit bull and therefore illegal. What legal criteria could ever be established so people can be sure of being in compliance? I also find it strange that the way the statute reads deems even the smallest percentage of pit bull in a dog dangerous, when mix breeding is usually considered to make dogs less aggressive while purebreds are more so. So in Kirkland, does one get a dog on a temporary basis and then schedule a hearing so that the dog can be judged? And does one need some sort of special permit to bring the dog to the hearing? Can you imagine asking for just such a hearing?! It almost seems that the city has itself in the same predicament as some southern states a century ago, declaring interracial marriage illegal. Just what determines a person’s race? It’s got to be more than assumption on someone’s part. And I bring up interracial marriage because I think the analogy is sound: both involve prejudice and ignorance.

My Pit is a big doppy loveable dog. He gets sad if I don't come home at a reasonable hour. As soon as I come in the door he lays on his back and wants me to pet him. If I am sad he comes and lays next to me and waits for me to respond. He is one of the most important characters in my single life. I was there when he was born (his mother is one of the smartest dogs that I know) and I will care for him for the rest of his life. Pit Bulls are remarkable animals and deserve to be able to live in all areas. Look at German Sherperds they have been scene to have a dangerous streak and now are used widely by many police departments. Give Pits a chance, they are smart capable and don't deserve to be shunned from polite socity. Thanks for allowing me to voice my love for Pit Bulls!

What a shame so many of this wondeful breed is being euthenized due to horrendous irresposible and dispicable people. I say send animal control out to capture the owners who abuse and release there dogs to the streets just because they dont' want them anymore. Need I say anymore! Pitbulls are wonderful...I can't say enough good things about them. I have 4..all rescued from a kill shelter...if I could have more I would. Once you have one you just can't get enough! Working in the pet field for years I can tell you I am more afraid of Golden Retrievers, many Labs, Dalmatians, Cockers, Lhasas, and Schnauzers then the American Pit Bull who comes in but once or twice a year. I have paid for many employees medical expenses for injuries caused by these types of animals never an American Pit Bull. It would be interesting for FOX or any other network to do an exposé on what is happening to America and the world abroad with all the PETA and SPCA propaganda that is infiltrating into our schools and in Society. In fact I challenge a NETWORK TO BRING out the absurdity and contradictions BSL (Breed Specific Legislation) holds and really what is the source for all this hate towards a wonderful breed and breeds in existence today. My guess it’s the insurance companies, law makers and politicians trying to skirt and redirect the REAL problems we have and turn the heads to a problem that really should not even be an issue. What gets me is in today’s society it is amazing how we as humans with morals, ethics and a conscious aptitude can not act humanly with each other but rather want to hold ANIMALS to a higher moral and ethical consciousness. What people need to understand is that dog on dog aggression is NOT the same as human aggression. Dog on Dog aggression doesn’t mean that they will go after the first human it sees. Really would you put to sleep the cat that kills mice and birds? Then why would you hold that high standard to an ANIMAL; a dog? What about the little dogs that provoke the larger dog all the while the owner is standing there thinking its funny and OK for the larger dog to stand there and take it. The animal will react as simple as that. Yes the APBT are dog aggressive but they are so much more then that with a good parent these dogs are the best companion imaginable! NO, these is not just a petition and plead to show the truth about a UNBELIVEABLE creature, but rather the truth on what’s behind this propagan

Pitbulls in my opinion are a very exploited breed. They seem to have become a magnet for all the "wrong" type of owners. Also, the media jumps on a "pitbull story", but generally ignores similar incidents involving other breeds. The result is an unfair public perception of the breed.

I have dozens of friends with pitbulls and they have all been the sweetest, friendliest dogs. Some of them are hyper, some are lazy, but all are loving and gentle. I've known only one pitbull that was not friendly to people and that was because it's owner was a weirdo who didn't socialize the dog and I think wanted the dog to be mean so it would be a better "guard dog". My only concern as a whole is that pits tend to get a bit fiesty around other dogs, but that can be easily fixed by giving them plenty of opportunities (especially when young) to socialize with other dogs, and when they're bad, let them know. They listen to their owners, they're not the brightest bulbs on the tree but they're not the dimmest either. When it comes time for me to get a dog, I'll be getting a pity.

I currently have 4 dogs all mixed breeds and a pit bull who is the sweetest dog I have ever had. she gets along with all my dogs and always goes to grandmas to visit with her 4 dogs and a cat. she loves people and animals. she is extremely gently and loving with everyone and every thing. she was a dog I found wandering on the highway. When I went up to her all she wanted to do was get close to me and lick me. I do not believe that the breed is bad its the owners that do not know how to properly socialize a dog. Most of the stories I,ve heard about a pit bull attacking is usually because they were trained to be that way or someone did something to them, which is a reaction that most any dog would have regardless of the breed. I wish people would stop listening to all of this bs about the breed and do a little research on them before they are so quick to condem this wonderful breed. I know of shelters that won't take this breed. these are shelters that I donate to and they will not take a pit bull. what kind of rescue organization is that. It makes me angry to hear people always saying what a mean dog breed the pit is. they are very misinformed and really need to be educated.

I currently own three dogs. An adba american pitbull terrier, a AKC german shepard, and a mixed breed. Out of all dogs I own, I trust the pitbull the most not to bite anyone and/or hurt any other animals. I am telling nothing but the truth and would put my hand on the bible saying this. My income is above upper middle class which is to surprise to people when I say I own a pitbull and the media also never shows this breed in a trustworthy clean environment. I was very scared of pitbulls until I had a neighbor that owned one. I became attached, however, my girlfriend was to scared to own a pitbull and heard of crazy unscientific stuff such as extra genes that causes this breed to fight. I achieved a ADBA pitbull and my girlfriend was very cautious. This breed was on many food products and in WW2 had been part of the mascot. I am sorry and am not a racist, but things seem to get bad when African Americans and achieved this breed for bad purposes. I am not saying black people are the only ones. Basically, DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THIS BREED. I am a huge fox news fan and love Bill O'Riley. FOX NEWS has a great quote "Fair and Balanced" The media has ruined this breed along with the ASPCA and Detroit. Who is the victim? I cannot believe this is even of issue, grow up and quit believing the same pitbull story that everyone has. I hate this, and love my dog that I am to scared to write my name because someone might shoot my dog. Man, will Americans wake up and see what the true problems are?

The sad thing is this very misunderstood breed has a bad public reputation due to irresponsible owners and/or owners that have intentionally prompted their dog to be aggressive. What people need to understand is that any animal that does not get the type of attention and exercise that it needs, does not have an owner/handler that is educated on how to handle that type of animal, has an owner that does not invest in buying the right type of equipment to handle that type of animal, and/or has an owner that rewards aggressive behavior, that animal can and will be a potential hazard to other people and animals. Anyone that was raise around farm animals will understand my thinking,,, If an inexperienced rider is put on a high-spirited horse and the horse bucks that ride off and seriously hurts the rider… Would you blame the horse? No, you should blame the irresponsible owner that should have prevented an inexperienced rider from being on the horse. If a bull gets loose and it hurts someone,,, Is it the bulls fault? No, it is the handlers fault for not having an adequate fence to keep the bull from getting out or for not locking the bull in the proper type of pin. Please do not blame the animal put the blame were it is due on the bad animal owner! This is a wonderful breed of dog for a responsible good dog owner. They need a lot of love and attention, but their silly, fun loving personalities, and willingness to make their owner happy with be more pay back then you can ever imagine.

I don't think that pitbulls should be banned because they are very intelligent, friendly dogs.If people train them right they wouldn't be attacking little kids or anyone for that matter it's just that people train them that way and that's what they learn to do. If they would treat them good, with lots of love then the dogs wouldn't be that way. YOu can teach any dog to be mean and people abuse these dogs so badly that's the only thing they know hos to do. They are smart and they just need a chance to prove themselves to the public that they really aren't mean they are sweet and smart.

Before my Staffordshire Terrier came into my life, I was strictly a cat person. My teenage daughter brought her home one day as a four month old puppy and she captured my heart with her intelligent, loving nature. My daughter has moved out but Lady stays, she is my best buddy and when I'm not working, she is always by my side. To legislate against this breed would be a mistake as we are still not addressing the bigger issue of finding and punishing the real culprits, irresponsible owners.

For a long time, I thought that pit bulls were scary too. As a child I have been attacked by dogs on several occassions. But the only link between these attacks was negligent/abusive owners. Since then, I have seen pit bulls in loving family homes, where they made wonderfull and faithfull pets. But for a long time, I was still leery of them. It was not until I met the Linders and saw their rehabilitation efforts to heal abused pit bulls, that I fully came to recognize that these dogs have big hearts to please. Hatefull owners use this love and faithfullness for hatefull ends. It's time to take the focus off the symptom and put our attention to the cause.

My two cats and I lived with a 85lb pit bull and he was the sweetest, most loving dog I have ever known. It's so sad that pits have such a bad rap, let's change that image and let the public know what great family pets they really are!!

I owned a minature dachshund, I thought that would be a great dog for my kids. WRONG when she was 5 months old she turned on my 2yr old when she picked her up and bit her in the forehead. Yes my kids are schooled on how to treat dogs. I then learned alot about the APBT and how great they are around kids and just great family pets. I now own one and will NEVER own a different breed. My APBT has been a great addition to our family, he is very smart, loving, calm, and just all around great. Please help save our beloved family pets. Thank you.
