I CHALLENGE FOX TO DO A SEGMENT ON ACTUAL FACTS, BECAUSE NO ONE WHO IS AGAINST PIT BULLS WILL BELIEVE THE ONES OF US WHO LOVE THEM SO. IF FOX AIRED FACTS SUCH AS TEMPERMANT TEST RATINGS IN CONTRAST WITH OTHER BREEDS AND FOCUSED SOLEY ON THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF OUR GREAT BREED. THE FACT THAT THE AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER WAS THE FIRST BREED TO HAVE A "TOTAL DOG" WINNER IN THE UKC, ETC. MAYBE THAT WOULD GET IT ACROSS TO PEOPLE WHO DON'T BELIEVE IN APBT'S THAT THEY ARE MORE THAN JUST AN AMAZING FAMILY PET.
I have known and lived with a few pit bulls and pit bull mixes, and I have never personally seen a violent pit bull. Banning them because of the violent, and most likely abused or neglected, minority is just foolish because when treated properly they are one of the best family dogs.
We don't condemn one race of people for the actions of a few. Don't condemn an entire breed for the bad actions of a few. It's the job of the media to educate!
In order to stop this antropocentric
reasoning by our governments, we must
first educate the powers that be.. No
particular breed of dog should be subjected as dangerous. This is
inane thinking.
Reading BadRap.org can give a lot of information to FOX about the breed and its history of being a family pet. Unfortunately, for our pitbulls, they are beautiful, stong, loyal determined companions, which certain people choose to use for the worst activities. I challenge FOX to do a Story on pitbulls, that does not focus on stories sensalized to attract ratings, but to find the real heart of this breed, when not destoryed by the inhumane activities of humans.
I'm not sure how much good this petition is going to do. Some people are stubborn and once they make up their minds about something, it's almost impossible to change it. Pit Bulls are beautiful animals, loyal, loving, etc., but we all know this, and the bad rap they've received because of a few fools who don't know what they're doing is a terrible shame. I DO hope this does some good, because I'd hate to see such a warm and giving animal who does nothing but aim to please their families get banned because of ignorance.
dude, people dont think that pitbulls are dangerous. It is only the stupidity of some people, and also some people who are doing it on purpose cause they ahve nothing better to do. Don't waste your time trying to change stupid people, its never going to work, they'll always remain stupid.
I recently visited a shelter and met the sweetest Pit Bull puppy who was just starved for affection. I asked what was going to happen to him and was told that he was going to be killed. I asked if I could arrange to have him adopted outside of the area and he would never be returned to the District of Columbia. I was refused and told "Rules are rules". To the best of my knowledge this sweet little guy was killed just because of his breeding. It sort of reminds me of the holocoust of WWII.
O.K.this has been going on for quite a few years now. When is the media and people in question going to get it ! You take any breed put them in a cage, mistreat them, hit them with a bat, chain a brick around their necks all day long or feed them gunpowder they will get aggressive. It's the owners that media should be going after.I'll bet that if FOX stuck a camera in the owners face, or in their backyard opinions would change !
Todd Baird
Ignorant people who do not take the time to research the breed are to blame. Since they have done no research they surely do not know what the training consists of. Treat any dog as though it were your child and you will have a pal for life. This stands for all bully breeds as well. I own two different breeds of bully's and they are both like children. They have two different personalities yet they are both lovable and loyal and may I add very well behaved.
Human ignorance and misunderstanding created the pit bull problem, and the media were a big factor. It is time that this changes, and the media help display pit bulls as the wonderful animals they truly are! Please, FOX, set aside the "sensational" pit bull stories for a moment, and let the public know the truth about these noble animals.
Having been involved in (all breed) rescue for over 15 years, I have taught/helped many abused dogs to trust again. I have never been able to change the thinking of an ignorant person.
I will take an abused dog over any person who thinks a BIG chain is a part of his personality.
Just because there are a few "bad" pit bulls out of the hudreds of thousands (if not more) out there, does not mean you should punish all the good ones (and their owners!)
Pitbulls are nothing but big babies. The owners are the ones that make them mean and nasty. I have met some of them that are just litke a little puppy. It's all because of the owner's treatment is how they got that reputation.
I have had and been around pit bulls all my life, and have never had a bad experience. I studied media as an undergrad and I am disappointed that the news acts like a bunch of lemmings with negative reporting of a so called aggressive breed! Report some truth for a change Pitbulls are one of the most loving ,loyal , family pets around.Everyone that has spent time with my pets changes their mind from wanting to adopt a Lab to wanting to adopt a Bully dog.......
I have been around lots of Pitbulls all my life through friends that own them, I have seeing a few pitbulls woundering around the streets whit their master a "homeless person" I have been also able to see people trainining pitbulls to be guard dogs.
dogs will do what their master tell them to do, a baby cannot hold a fork till you actually teach them that, the same way goes whit dogs people...
There is NO BAD pitbull, there are a few BAD PEOPLE who abuses this great animals!!!
this people should pay for not his lovelly dogs...
Rosie Loves you Tatum...
Tatum a blue line Pitbull
I have 2 of the sweetest pit bulls and would rather move than lose my "babies".
Guns kill more people every year than pits, but no one wants to ban guns. Go figure. Maybe we need to get Charlton Heston a pit bull for Christmas so he can help us out. " From my cold dead hand will you pry my pit bulls leash"
I can see it now.
Blame the deed not the breed.
The irresponsible pet owners should be prosecuted not the animal. Dog's do what they are told & trained to do. The animal is the victim !!! If someone is beaten within a inch of their life who are you going to hold liable ? The Victim ? If you had better legislation to protect animals from Abusive owners. You would not have a problem.! I suggest someone get off their butt and actually do their job and protect dogs from falling into the hands of these people. I think this is just another case of pass the buck..... We don't want to have to work that hard & make sure the animals are not in a abusive situation. So therefore you just ban the animals. I wish they would just ban a few people in the Government....and possibly get someone in there that's not afraid to do their job. Protecting the Innocent animals !!
I take homeless pitbulls into my home as foster dogs on a regular basis. I have NEVER had one give me any problem as long as I treat them kindly and give them lots of love.
I currently have three dogs, two Chihuahua's and an American Pit Bull Terrier. I know from experience that the Chihuahua's are much more aggressive than my APBT. My "pit bull" is my best friend. He greats everyone who comes to my door with lots of kisses and love. He is great with children, and loves small animals.
focus on the cause: the ability of humans to subvert the goodness of any animal and the inate goodness of this breed and others which can be supported and reinforced. Make the larger issue of human responsibility to animal welfare "the news".
I volunteer at a shelter and I pet & photograph many dogs, most of them are pit bulls. My perception of pit bulls is affectionate, loyal, playful, and they love people alot!
Pitbulls have an unfounded reptuation for being aggressive dogs. Because of this false reputation, dog owners who irresponsibly want to train their pets to be aggressive "killers" often choose the pitbull breed. As a pitbull owner, I know these dogs are not unpredictable and aggresive by nature. My dogs were raised with love as part of the family, and it is reflected in their personalities. Any dog, regardless of the breed or size, has the potential to be aggressive. The bottom line is that the fault is in the owner, not the dog!
It seems like people today ar not responsible for anyting. If they raise a dog to be bad its the dog's fault. If they commit a violent crime its their parents or the governments fault. I have a pit bull that is very kind, does not bark and is properly taken care of. Don't make laws agains us just because other people can not manage their lives, dogs or possessios properly.
Why can't the news do a piece on bad dog owners (for all breads) or bad parents for that matter. That's right, no one is responsible for their actions anymore.
People should be given the same guidlines adopting a dog/puppy as if they were adopting a baby/kid. Some people just shouldn't have either! It is the people, NOT the dogs!
bad owners make bad dogs. All dogs are descendants of wild animals, all dogs can be hostile. Responsible owners should not be penalized because of a few idiots that shouldn't have so much as a poodle in their care.
People need to be told the truth. It is not bad dogs, it is bad owners.
And to say that anyone who owns a tread mill to exercise a dog on,
are training a dog to fight is crazy.
I have owned, trained, showed and weight pulled these
dogs for well over 25 years. As part of the physical training, they are trained just like any athlete, part of which is running, walking etc. If I run on a treadmill,
am I training to fight? IT IS CALLED EXERCISE!
Wake up America, find out for yourselves.
Come on Fox, you have all sort of sports on your station, do one on Pit Bulls, let us show the public the beauty in these animals. Let's show them how we show and weight pull
them. And what goes into the physical training
that goes into makeing a champion, weather it be for show or family pet.
I have raised 9 children with these dogs. They love these dogs unconditionally and the same for the dogs.
Focus attentions, monies, frustrations on dealing with the backyard breeding that is creating the few anomolies that end up in the news. It takes a lot of hard work on the part of irresponsible humans to have been able to occasionally subvert this breed's inate desire to please and be gentle with their humans. It's the humans, folks.
This breed ban will only serve to hurt responsible dog owners who love the breed. The irrisponsible ones will only choose another breed. Will that one be next on the ban list? Where will it stop? What will it be after the government controls what dogs we can and can't have?
This breed of dog is by far the greatest with children. i would never consider ever having any other type of dog, loyal, loving, and best of all, one of the best friends i could ever have!!
By banning Pit bulls, we are only masking the problem of bad ownership. I own 2 Am-Staffs and have never had a problem with aggression. They crave love and attention and we gladly give that to them. They love us dearly in return.
Any dog, animal, or child can be mean or aggresive. I have personal known many pit bulls that very sweet as sugar. Their owners trained them with love and respect. Three of those owners have small children. The dogs are great with them as well as their friends. Isn't it a shame we end up making a bigger deal of who should own an animal; than who should raise children?
Breed specific bans are not the answer to the issue of dogs that bite. Pitbulls are amongst the most sound, sweet, intelligent and trainable dogs out there and to ban hundreds of thousands of good dogs due to the bad behaviour of so few would be a costly, illogical, ineffective and deadly move that would NOT RESOLVE the problem.
You cannot lump dogs into such groups as dangerous. Like humans all have personalities and must be judged as a single issue not a breed problem. The problem lays on the shoulders of humans who mistreat not the breed.
I do not currently own a Pit Bull because I own older cats, which I have rescued and did not grow up with any dogs. However, I do have friends though who currently have them and they are the friendliest, most loving animals I have ever met. The reason is simple, GOOD OWNERS. They are not cruel or abusive to these animals nor do they teach them to be aggressive. So I challenge you FOX TV to take a leadership role which quite obviously Attorney General Michael Bryant, the Liberals and some other media channels aren't and AIR the TRUTH. Base the show on FACTS presented by professional groups who work with dogs and have first hand knowledge about dog attacks not on the misguided information of people in positions of power who talk about attacks by 150lb. Pit Bull's.
Banning ANY breed of dogs is not the answer. We need more public education and a Dangerous Dog Act, which encompasses all breeds of dogs. The laws in this Act must be given TEETH (big ones) to make owners more responsible. Judge each dog attack individually taking into account all the circumstances. If the owner is found responsible due to neglect, abuse, cruelty, knowingly training a dog to become aggressive or other similar reasons then levy heavy fines, jail terms and even ban them from owning another dog. If politicians really are interested in the safety of the public then it is time to start placing the blame where in a lot of cases it rightly belongs, irresponsible owners. Make examples of some of these bad owners and this problem will definitely decline. At the end of every leash there is a voter.
I look forward to the airing of your show FOX TV – perhaps it could be called ‘Pit Bull’s - Finally facts not fiction’.
How pathetic to judge a dog by breed and not for his/her qualities. Humans can turn a friendly beagle into a biting fearful dog by their abuse. How does one justify killing because of what they are and ignore who they are?
Like nearly all dog related problems, the answer is education, not legislation. The spotlight needs to be put on the irresponsible breeders and owner who are creating the problem, not the breeds themselves. Some form of recognition or reward for good breeding and ownership should be available and penalty or punishment should be mandatory for the opposite.
