To know a pit is to love them. They are very intellegent and incredibly eager to please. It is this intelegence and desire to please that people manipulate and turn into aggression. People who own dogs that attack should be should be seriously investigated for mis-treatment of the animals. 99% of the time the humans are the ones to blame... after all they are the responsible ones right?

I curently own 3 pitbulls and they are the best thing... Sweet , loveable , smart, very very smart .. I think it is a shame to ban a breed due to a owner who neglected thier dogs..they are trained to be mean. Mine dun have a mean bone in thier body. Loves all ppl and animals... I have owned my babies .. for 9 yrs ... and still going.. And i wouldn't give them up for nothing .. i would move before i gave in to BSL..
I have lived with pets, mostly dogs, my intire life. Albie is my first Pitbull. I have loved all of my pets and been loved by them. But, I can honestly say, that I have NEVER in my life felt the kind of love from a dog like I do from Albie. When there is something wrong with me I can truely see the worry on her face.She is happy and loving and keeps me going even when I don't want to. When I want to stay in bed and feel sorry for myself, she will physically get me out of the bed and get me to play with her. (I am bi-polar and have P.T.S.D.) Within minutes she can make me smile.I never would have thought a Pitbull could inspire that much will to live. I even go outside more now.
Over the years I have owned 7 dogs ranging from shepherds to shih tzu...My pit bull is the most intelligent,loving, trainable, and loyal dog that I have ever owned. it is a shame to ban a breed. owners who do not research heir breed, or properly train and care for their dog should be banned. I have three dogs your typical chocolate lab for bird hunting.I have an argentine dogo for wild boar hunting .and I have a red nose pitbull for a family pet i also have 2 sons they are 2 and 4 the boys and the dogs run the hous and yard together all the time my dogs watch my kids and i never worrie for their safety why? because our dogs are part of the family loved and treated so and they know it none of my dogs have ever been people or animal agressive and i wouldnt trade anyof them for the world.
I couldn't ask for a better dog! I have never wanted a dog before, but I fell in love with her and have never come to regret that decision. She absolutely loves kids, teens, adults, cats, etc. The breed is very loyal and smart. My dog was a cruelty victim, but it has not completely ruined her. It took some work, but she is very trusting and sweet now. Too many dogs in this breed are not given a chance to be rehabilitated. Please think about the damage that your false media stories do to the already close-minded people of this world.
I have a Dogo right now that I would never give up. If pitbulls are banned, then most likely our dog will be next. A Dogo looks like a big pit. We have also had a pit living with us and he was the greatest dog ever. The only way these so called "mean natured" dogs get to be mean is when people train them to be that way! It is the owner responsibility to train the dogs they have. If they are trained to be mean, they will be. If they have a rightful owner, then they are sweetest dog you can ever own. They are also awsome dogs with kids. Our pit NEVER even looked at my kids in a mean way. My kids are 4 and 2. They beat up on the dog all the time, but our dog was trained the right way. It is only IDIOTS that ruin it for the rest of us. You cant ban a dog for it's breed, we just need to ban the people who ruin it for the rest of us. Besides, I have seen more small dogs yelp and growl and bite then I have pits. Why dont we go after them? The little ones are the ones that seem to have the attitudes.
Pitt Bulls are great dogs irresponsible and negligent owners are the problem. I rescued a seriously abused pitt bull and she was never aggressive just very loyal and protective.
I would love to see,just once in my lifetime the media take on the responsibility for their actions. For once don't feed into the sensationalism that we see all too often. Yes, I do realize that a "Pit Bull Attack" sells papers or time on the 6:00 o'clock news even if the dog is a mixed breed that may never have even seen a Pit Bull. Put your money where your mouth is. I have 40 Pits more or less and would welcome you to come see what these dogs are all about. They are not bad dogs a lot of them have come from bad homes but that is all. Be responsible, be fair.
This breed is now hated worldwide due to how they are portrayed in the media. They are loving, gentle dogs that in the right hands are great! Due to years and years of abuse, neglect, and cruelty these dogs have been given no chance for their true qualities to shine through! Please fox news do a segment on the truth about pitbulls. We have a male pit, he is a member of our family. It is devistating to even think that anyone would even think to ban this breed. They are a great family dog. All they want to do is make you happy. I myself have family members who think my husband and I are crazy for having a pitbull with two kids. I think they are the crazy ones, they have never even been around one! They are basing their opinion on what they hear on the news. Please research the good in these dogs/children and inform everyone what kind hearted dogs they really are.

My son is autistic and because of this we had to carefully select the breed of dog we bought. He is very rough with animals and will often do things other children in play would not do to dogs/animals. We bought a pit bull puppy after spending some time with an adolescent pit bull and seeing how well they got along together even though my son was so rough while playing with him. I truly believe that we would not be able to safely own any other kind of breed of dog. The dog we have is so good with him when they play and when he gets too rough, she simply walks away from the situation. Any other dog would have bitten him by now, but she is so patient and loving with him. She has been such a blessing to us. We even got another pit bull puppy and she is just as great with him as the first. We are so grateful for them and people have been so impressed with the gentleness and love our dogs have show to my little boy. It's so important other people know how intelligent, gentle, and loving these animals truly are when properly cared for and loved.
"Ditto" to all the points made here, but I'd also like to add that Staffordshire Bull Terriers are also always lumped into these bans and very few people here in North America even know what they are. It highly unlikely that they're responsible for ANY dog bites at all. They're such an uncommon breed they rarely even get mentioned on bite report statistics, but get lumped in because of their name. This in itself shows the level of ignorance behind breed bans. Staffords weigh roughly 24-38 lbs and stand 14-16 inches at the shoulder. This qualifies as an "apartment dog" in many cases. In a society fearful of "big mean dogs", they don't fit that description anywhere, but then neither do their Pit and Am Staff cousins. Please show the public the true nature of these fine dogs and show them the Staffordshire Bull Terrier that they've never even heard of, being lumped in because these breed specific law makers are clueless idiots.
It's pretty pathetic, in my opinion, that people say all pit bulls are bad, just because some owners are ignorant idiots and don't try to or want to control their dog, especially if they are training them for the wrong purpose. That's a form of "profiling" just like it is to say that all of a certain race/religion are "born bad." If most people just gave one decent dog with a decent owner half a chance, most would have a wonderful experience with this loving and beautiful creature.
pitbulls are an awesome yet powerful dog, they need to be in the hands of RESPONSIBLE OWNERS ONLY, crack down on the crackhead gangsters and the people who fight or abuse them and you will see the stats about biting go down.
I have a 9 yr old pit bull ... who has been the best dog i could ever ask for .. and ever want .. She is a rescue .. and i got her when she was 6 .. and i would not trade her for anything ... These are animals that need love and respect too ..
I love pit bulls, and have met several nice ones. I feel they are great family dogs, and great for responsible owners. They have gotten a bad rap for too long, and it is time to change that.

i went to a town hall meeting with ckco tv in kitchener and watched them blatantly lie and mislead the public in our community about a paperboy who was attacked by a boxer cross in Cambridge. They had evidence present from the Cambridge Humane society proving the dog's breed-it was not a pit bull. They are still publisizing the lie that is was a pit bull!!! Talk about mass hysteria in our province.
even though i'm owned by a doberman i think pits are great dogs. one of my friends owns one and my main concern around him is having the skin licked off my face:)NO dog is 'mean' they are taught that behavior, by humans. try setting up some irresponsible dog owner laws.
We have two Staffordshire Bull Terriers, and they are the most gentle, intelligent dogs we have ever owned. The law should single out the humans who abuse the dogs, not the dogs themselves.

I own two pitbulls, one rescued from the pound, and the other rescued from a home where pitbulls were being breed to fight. My dogs are the best, i could never love anything more then them. I wish awful people would stop making this breed known as "awful dogs". The owners are the ones that should be brutaly punished for the abuse of these darling animals, not the dog!!!! Why give this poor animal such a reputation? If a dog bites you its because he is trying to defend himself. Your the one who did something wrong, not this beautiful creature.
In my opinion there should not be any need for such a petition, but then, bad news is good news, and poritive information sells worse than hyped-up blood-soaked lies. It's time for the truth about bit Bulls and all other B&T breeds to be brought to and accepted by the general public.
The truth is: There are good and bad dogs in all breeds. The media just happens to like to report biting by large-headed dogs like Pit Bulls and Rottweilers. It attracts attention which is good for their business. They don't show that the majority of these dogs are in fact good family pets. When a Pit Bull does something good, which happens a lot (i.e. therapy dogs, search and rescue, etc), the media doesn't report that.
And when it's a Golden Retriever or any smaller dog that sends a child to the hospital, no one talks about it.
All this creates the illusion that Pit Bulls are by nature killers, which is so false.
I have read much about this breed (by experts not the media), seen many, and presently own one. All that convinced me that they are great loving dogs for the most parts. Those that are aggressive are usually those in the wrong human hands.

In most cases Its the owners not the dogs.We have a reacue Pit she is the most loving dog, in one instance she was being givin cheerio's by a one year old,who was puting her whole hand in her mouth and she took them with a soft mouth.any one who has one knows they are the best
We have a rescue pit bull, I can't imagine any other dog I would want to have. see is the happiest dog always a smile... LOVES Everyone.... she sits in front of our house and plays with the kids in the neighborhood... don't just take what other people have to say about them... ask people who have them!!!!
We have a 2 year old son and a 2 year old pit bull, there is a bond between them, they play and give eachother kisses. They play ball like any other dog and child would,Our dog is great with everyone and all other animals, the bad name they get is from irrisponsible dog owners.If you ban one dog you need to ban them all, and we all know that will not happen,do not descrimanate on one specific breed. It is not fair to try and take away what we have grown to love.
I have a 4 year old pit bull and two children ages 4 and 1 and my dog is great with them. She thinks shes a lap dog and loves to give kisses.She plays with the neighbors small dog and cat. She's harmless. If people would raise these dogs and others properly then there really wouldn't be any problems.They on;y do what they're trained to do it's not their fault.

People get mad when a dog does something natural like bite...humans are the ones that brought a WILD animal into their home and domesticated them..the human is to blame, not the dog, and this goes for any animal behaviour..i work daily with dogs of all breeds, shapes, sizes and sex and i have never been bitten by a rottie or pitbull..however when i worked at a vet clinic i was attacked and bitten by a golden retriever, but again, this was because how the OWNER handled the dog. punish the deed, NOT the breed.

The media has chosen to target this breed over any other for sensationalism. An irresponsible owner can raise any dog to be poorly socialized. Please give another side to the pitbull story. You might be surprised what you learn about this loyal, athletic and often goofy breed.

this was once the number one breed in the us, loved by millions, and now there is some kind of anti pitbull frenzie. Most people do not even recognize a pitbull when they see one. I have seen people label a weimaraner as a pitbull..
We own a young Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and have been working on getting another one since our old male Stafford died in January.
They are athletic dogs with endearing personalities.
You can see them if you attend a weight pull, agility or conformation show. I know you will find them to be friendly and funny dogs.
I have had over 100 pitbulls through out my life they are the sweetest, loving animal i have ever had and i am 15 years old. People always look at dogs (in general) and assume they are killers only thing that is the killers are the people train them, all of the dogs i have had and trained have come out to be the most loyal animal. Pitbulls need to get a chance to have a happy life! Dont punnish the pet punish the owner. Pitbulls deserve a chance too!!!!
