My husband adopted a pit bull when he was in veterinary school. She has turned out to be the most mellow, friendly and loyal dog I've ever encountered. Also, I have to stress that pit bull behavior is extremely influenced by the owner's training and behavior. At my husband's workplace he's encountered only one "bad" pit bull out of the dozens he's seen and that was because its owners left it tied up outside all the time and never interacted with it. Any laws that are passed to restrict breeds are ridiculous--it's the owners who should be looked at when a dog misbehaves.
I have a 3yr old female pittbull who is just the sweetiest dog you will ever meet. All animals no matter what the breed can be aggressive, and it also depends on the way they have been raised.
I have 3 pitbulls who are the most lovable dogs. I am furious with these stories the media constantly plays about these dogs. It is the owner who has trained the dog to be this way not the dogs natural behaviors. I am sick of the media feeding off of only pitbull attacks. What about the next door neighbors Cocker Spaniel? Which by the way, has a larger number of biting incidents than the pitbull. Like the sticker on my car that I got from PBRC "Blame the deed, not the breed."
I think it is time that we try and stop the bans of these "agressive" breeds. I have one male and had one female (that got shot because of her breed) and they are they best animals that i could ask for.
i live in ontario and i am enraged at the fact that pitbulls have been banned. It is the owners responsibility to train the animal. I am an owner of two rottweilers and they are the wimpiest dogs i have ever owned. they are complete sucks and love attention. the fact that ontario has banned pitbulls is pure cruelty. banning an animal just because it is known for violence is ridiculous, isn't it the same thing if a certain human race has a higher rate of violence than others...should we be killing their children and neutering them?! I didn't think so...
I think it's too bad that when the wrong owners have pitbulls, thats all you here about in the news. Why don't they take a look at some of the owners and how they treat them. Ex. Cops/Animal Cops You see these dogs that have not been fed, washed, tied up to a tree their whole life. Of course there going to be scary and pissed off pitbulls, but you never see homes like mine or others who love and care for their pitbulls. I would love for them to come see mine.
lets get this straight.apbt are very intelegent dogs that are extremely obedient and loving to people (young and old). But they can be very dangerous if you dont take the time to love and train them.that being said, any animal that is not treated with love will be a ticking time bomb.a apbt that is raised the way you would your own child will grow up to be the best pet a family or indivdual could ask for.
Pits are WONDERFUL dogs. I also believe the people that go around facilitating the opinion(not fact) that they are aggressive and harmful animals, surely have never owned one personally.
pit bulls are the most loving dog out there. it is the owners that mistreat their animals that should be banned. if we ban the pit bulls, they will find another breed to mistreat and abuse. the breed ban is not fair for caring dog owners like myself that don't get to enjoy the fantatstic company that a pit bull has to offer.
I love the breed and wish everyone had the same feelings as myself. The media has given all of us...(breed and breed lovers) a very bad name so its up to us to give our very loving breed the respect that it deserves.
I think that we should be talking about doing somethen about the owners of these dogs they call "aggressive". Pitbulls are not mean by nature, their owners are who make any breed of dog the type of dog they become. Quit giving Pits a bad rap and start punishing their owners
Each year Cocker Spaniels are recorded for having the highest bite ratio among people, yet the american pitbull terrier gets a fierce reputation. People need to stop looking at pitbulls in such a steriotypical fashion. Overall, pitbulls are the most loving and loyal animal alive.
I think these dogs deserve rights, just like any other animal. we wouldnt be so prejudice against a cute little bunny rabbit would we? they are just really the same inside, they just have a more fiery character, and with the right care and training, we can harness this energy and channel it into a more posotive way. I think people who train dogs to fight (apart from the police, of course) should be put down personally. it is just condemning the dogs to a life of hardship and almost definately death, because that, in most cases cannot be turned round so as humans we simply kill them as we can't control them.
Pitbulls are the greatest dog on this planet called earth, and almost everyone whos had one will agree, thr problem is judging (judge not and yee shall not be judged, for the measure in which you judge, so shall yee be judged.)the problem with pitbulls is not the dog but its a few bad apples spoiled it all for the good ones and im talking people, you know the ones with the control. In my opinion lets do something positive, breed a new dog without the negative backround instead of wasting time fighting with these people. Breed american bulldog with a terrier or whatever, something smaller perhaps,so we dont have people pissing in there pants as soon as they here the name. all dogs in there history are crossbreeds a hundred times over, pitbulls have been badly bred for over 25 years now anyway, they were never meant to be this big!The whole point of pitbulls was to be small,if people wanted a big dog they should of gotten a rottie.
Pitbulls are great dogs. They should not be banned. The dog is not reponsible for the way that the owner makes them. They can be one of the most lovable dogs out there.
it really makes me mad that the only stories that are reported are the bad ones and a majority of the time the breed reported in not accurate. I'm sure there are tons of good stories out there. I have a 2 year old APBT and he is the best dog that my sons and I could have ever asked for.
In the 70s, it was the Dobie, in the 80s it was the Rotts, now it's the Pit Bull - all great breeds who've been given a bad rap. ANY breed can be vicious, just as ANY breed can be raised a loving, loyal pet. Stop blaming these helpless animals and blame those who are truly responsible - CRIMINALS and ANIMAL ABUSERS. If laws were tougher on those who commit crimes against Pits, we would have less of them - guaranteed.
Pits have such a bad rap I think because fighting or hearing about them being fought is all people know. There is a long history of idiots fighting pit bulls---make the laws much stronger...give idiots a reason to not commit such atrocities to these animals. The history of pits being aggressive will eventually die. Pits, like any other breed need to be understood with regard to their natures and trained accordingly...plain and simple. Just like you can do horrible things to a pit to make it aggressive, you can give a pit love, attention and appropriate training...result: a wonderful, devoted, pet for life!
Without exception, every person I have talked to that has a bad opinion of an apbt has never owned one or has been associated with people that fight them. If you show your apbt love and affection then that is what you will receive, but don't take my word for it. Go get one and find out for yourself, then you will be the next spokesperson for the apbt. Between the people that fight them and the people that think they are not quite man enough unless they have a mean dog these dogs would still be the Great American Dog AS THEY SHOULD BE. PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED
Pits are not naturally agressive towards people or children and the public needs to be educated on proper training/handling of these dogs!!! Pits should not pay for the ignorance of people!!!
I have always have a pit bull when i was younger i have never had on attack me in fact i had a lab bite my face when i was much younger before any (and none have) pitbulls have bitten me. the most prodomint pit i can remember is the pit bull i had when i was 2 or 3 its name was Stubbs and he would always sleep inside or right out side my room he wouldnet let any one but my mom in when i was sleeping. I loved him dearly.

Pit bulls have been labeled unappropriately due to ignorance. They DO NOT deserve this and one must realize that it's all in the way a dog is raised and trained regardless of what type of breed it may be.
We own pits and one is 5 years old and she has never even so much as barked at anyone and runs away from her own shadow she is a BIG BABY!!! They are only what you make them!!!!!!
I have the best dog in the world who happens to be a pit bull, he is the most gentle dog I have ever met and have never once in his three years shown aggression.
I have a pit mix and there is NO way in the world that she would ever hurt a living thing! The worst thing that she would do to you is lick you to death!
There is no such thing as bad dog of (any breed) it would be bad owner dogs are just like kids how many naughty kids are there that fight bite or kisck etc.. we do not put them down we just say bad parent (owner) One of my sons has a staffy & one has a pit bull I have three grandchildren all under three and I have no doubt in these animals at all
I have a rescued Pit mix who is one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met. He's my 18-month-old nephew's best friend, and frequently curls up with my mother's cat to sleep. Irresponsible owners, breeders, and journalists have given these dogs horrible, undeserved reputations. Please report the truth about the truth about these sweet, intelligent dogs.
save the pitts...jail the owners of fighting pitts...its not the dog...ITS THE OWNERS...they are the ones that breed the fighting in ...WAKE UP GOVERNMENT ...AND DO YOUR JOB... DO THE RIGHT THING FOR A CHANGE !!!!!!
Oh yeah! I forgot to mention that Pitbulls were our mascott in WW1 just a little info for anyone who didnt know it is always fun to learn more about the loyal caring Pitbull breed.
I thought I already signed this once but another time never hurts they need all the help they can get. I am so tired about people putting opinions in when they have no place to talk cause they do not know and have never exprerianced the true love of a pitbull. They are Great Dogs! My 3 purebreed family pitbulls would never think of bitting a human. if they did I would put them down, myself, like a responsible pitbull owner should always do if it came to that. Stop aggression! Dont provoke aggression.
Please consider doing an objective report, remembering that animals, like guns, are not innately "bad" but the handlers and their intetions are the ones that should be questioned.
My Pit is the sweetest most gently dog I have ever owned or known. She is wonderful because we treat her with love not anger. it's the way you raise them.
I love Pitbulls
I have three pit mixes and none of them display any agressive behavior other than barking when a stranger is near the house which is whatmost dog owners want
I have two pitbulls in my family and they are the most loving dogs I have ever had. Here is an idea how about banning the people who breed these dogs for their own recreation. The dog is an innocent victim and are taught to fight and attack. Are we to be given a list of acceptable dogs we are allowed to purchase? This is how dictorships begin. After all don't we live in the land of the free? That is what I thought America stood for.
I feel the breed is being attacked. The problem is that there are people out there that are making a bad name for the breed. If ban goes through it just won't stop there they will find more reason to ban more dogs. No one should tell us what kind of dog to have.
I have been around dogs all my life. All I can say is that I have known many pit bull owners and all there dogs have been some of the most well behaved dogs I have ever seen. My Beagles Best friend is a Pit bull And has been since he was a puppy. I know That when Fenrus (the pit bull) Was adopted he had been abused and was very shy but with lots of love and caring he is now one of the nicest dogs you would ever meet. He has never been aggresive with my dog and often would share his toys and food with him. At this time they were both un neutered males. We have since fixed them both and they are doing great. Fenrus also has a pitbull sister that is a sweetie.
I have a one year old female APBT and would own 100 more. Bella is the most gentle and loving dog I have ever had. They are a misunderstood breed and I don't think it is fair all pitbulls are judged because of irresponsible owners.
We have five kids and a pit bull (which we have to keep hidden from our mates the council). She loves beyond words and protects them like you wouldn't believe. The public have definately been given the wrong image!!
Too much bad press has made this breed of animal look bad which in turn has made some law officials do some very wrong things for no valid reason. Whatever happened to pepper spray or tazering an animal before shooting numerous bullets into it?
There are no bad breeds, there are just bad breed owners!
What the media, criminals, and just downright ignorant people have done to these gentle, loving beautiful creatures is horrible. The image that has been given to pitbulls could not be farther from the truth.
I think it is bad owners that need to be baned.Dogs are like people there is good and bad in all races and breeds why condem a whole race or breed because of a few.
Through an internship at the Pasadena Humane Society, I have become aware of the horrible plight regarding Pit Bulls. Every day 5 or more dogs get euthanized due to overpopulation and 80 percent are Pit Bulls that are SAFER tested and pass with green colors. The reality is Pit Bulls are intelligent, social, and well mannered dogs as long as the person taking them in treats them with compassion. Our society has labeled the Pit Bulls as dangerous because of the way people abuse them. The Pit Bulls should not be punished for the fault of mankind, there should be an aggressive action taken towards Humane Education and reaching out to the public on how to treat this beautiful species.
I've always wanted to have a pit bull but even if i have not owned one...i still know that they are gentle animals...it just all depends on how you train it...don't ban the breed..put away those that harm and train these pits to be viscious
the want to ban pit bulls should be stopped of its cruelty...and those of you out there who treat your pits or dogs like they are nothing, SHAME ON YOU
no dog or breed of this matter should EVER EVER be treated like this or lesser than us humans...they have a heart a mind and soul...it all depends on how you raise it...how much you love it that comes out of it all....your dog refelcts who you are, so smarten up when raising your lil pup otherwise one day you might risk them turning on you
People believe Pitbulls are born with the instinct to kill and maul, this is not true. For a dog to be ths way they have to be raised and trained in this manner. Pits are lovable family pets like may other dogs when in the right home with a responsible and loving home. Pet owner need to be held responsible for their pet's actions.
Please save this breed. Everyday I hear the sad news about how we should ban the pit bull. If you truly love this wonderful dog please don't abuse it nature. Ihave a 3 yeor old pit who just loves my 3 year old grandson. I have picture of the two of them sleeping together on my wall and people are shocked that she is a pit bull. They can not believe it!!!Please not let the state of Virginia change its law and ban this wonder breed.
No dog is ever aggressive until the owner trains it to be... we need to be more selective with who we allow to have these dogs - any dogs - and not ban the dog instead!
I have seen aggressive dogs before, and if there is any dog that just has a bad wrap it's a pitbull, my best friend owns two and has a new baby, those dogs protect that family like crazy. They are very loveable pets and banning them would just be stupid.
I love my pit. she has been one of the best things that have ever happend to me. she is my baby, and both me and my 2 year old would severely miss her if she had to go away. They are great family members and friends and I think you should show that side of the breed instead of what irresponsible owners do with them. Show what honorable pit bull owners go through and do for their babies.
I have owned my pitbull for almost three years and have not had one problem! My min. poodle shows alot less affection than the pitbull.Baby sleeps with me, loves everyone, and is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever known. Breed bans are crap, I think the only thing that should be done is ban certain people from owning certain breeds.
I have raised pit bulls and been around them all my life. The only dogs that have ever been aggressive towards me, have been small dogs. It depends on how the dog is raised, any dog can be mean.
I have taken care of a mama pitbull and her litter for a vacationing friend.Themama was wonderful&very loving with her pups, not possessive of the adorable litter, she seemed to revel in the praise she was given for being a good mama, allowed my daughter & myself to cuddle the pups. She would lsnuggle up to us when we would sit on the floor with a pup.any of the pitbulls I have known were very loving dogs. People are responsible for the poor breeding and behavior of their dogs.Parents should also teach their children how to approach an animal they don't know, getting the owner's permission and never if the animal is off leash. The joy of connecting with an animalshould not be denied to children. As a parent , one has the responsibility to protect the child and should know where it is.Today there was a report in the news about 2 pitbullseho fought a chow off awoman that it was attacking.Chow owner recwas cited for having a vicious animal and will be sent to trial. The dog is being held by the Humane Society.
