I love Pits. They are my most favortie dogs, why can't the media leave them alone they are friendly and loveing, I was bit by a rott, so leave the pits alone
Hats off to you!Pits get such a bad reputation. If you look at all the owners of the dogs that have attacked, there is a common denominator. 99.9% of the dogs are chained outside, or left with no socialization at all. I think the owners should suffer the consequences, not the dogs. I volunteer at a Humane Society and try to educate people on how all animals need socialization to be a good pet, and there a no bad dogs, only bad owners.
How ironic, don't ya think
A dog to be trained for aggression
Now I bet you, that a K-9, that some people call a police officer, will get nothing more then a smack on the paw, when in the real world, this dog would be put to death.
People want to put bans on certain animals that are aggressive, so why don't we put a ban on poodles, or even better yet, lets ban ignorant humans! This is my complaint about Peggy Nelson, The "German Shepherd breeder" says "she don't like pit bulls", well, here is a news flash for her, do your home work.
Just like any dog, a German Shepherd, pit bull, even a poodle or a pug can be aggressive it is in all how you raise and treat the animal
a German Shepherd can be just as horrible as a pit bull around children, some children do not have the thinking ability to know that hanging on any animals ears, poking sticks at it, loud screaming noises will scare them or make it upset, it would even make most people upset, and then reprimand the brat.
the majority of dogs are naturally aggressive, that is why we call them animals, their instincts tell them they need to protect their pack from outsiders, so of course they would go after other dogs or growl at strangers. would you want something taking your spot in bed.
But again mostly it is in all how you treat the animal or train it
Peggy Nelson breeds these dogs for police work, these dogs are being trained to be aggressive on command, hmmmmmm, our we hearing some double standards here?
In all cases, I would choose a pit bull over a German Shepherd any day,
"Because I don't like German Shepherds, I don't trust them, they are aggressive around other dogs and they are not good with children,"
Sounds pretty darn closed minded, maybe she should check out the world around her, instead of thinking that there are only crazy, blood thirsty pit bulls.
thanks for the time to look at this,
skeeter hockett
The problem of breed specific targeting could be solved by holding dog OWNERS accountable. The threat of stiff fines, jail time, or court ordered community service would most likely get the owners to take more responsibility.
I was raised by my grandparents. My grandmother loved Chihuahuas and my grandfather and I loved pit-bulls. So I can tell you with certainty you are 100 times more likely to be bite by a Chihuahua. Pit Bulls are intelligent, loyal, gentle and powerful dogs. In the right hands they are perfect family pets. In the wrong hands they can be deadly. It is my opinion that owners of all dog breeds should be licensed and held solely responsible for the actions of their dogs. If a owner is found incompetent they should be banned from owning a dog. The truth is it's the breed of human we need to worry about.. not the breed of dog.
More people are injured by car accidents than dogs of any kind. Why aren't cars banned? Going around banning things is not an acceptable solution to life's problems. Have some responsibility.
i'm around hundreds of pit bulls every year an have yet to come across a people aggressive dog,... there are many search and rescue pit bulls out there, how bout some positive stories on them?
I never really had a major desire to adopt a dog until I met friends pit bull. They're loving dogs when in the right hands. Even my cat hangs out with my pit bull. This was yet another story showing how biased the media is and how far they are willing to go to get attention. When will you reporters stop trying to feed off the fear you continously shove down your audiences throats? You're as bad as these breeders/trainers raising mean dogs. Report the full truth for once! Pit bulls can be loving dogs as well!
I used to be scared of pitbulls because of the bad reputation they have been given, but I fell in love with one and she has proved that the reputation of pitbulls is false. She is so loving towards everyone and everyone she encounters is shocked to find out what breed she is because she is so wonderful! It truly depends on how the dog is raised.
I grew up with my sister raising them and now own one. I have seen both sides of these dogs and it completly depends on how they are raised. Our Husky-Shepard mix is more agresive than our Pit Bull is. She is great with kids, and loves to greet customers when I bring her to work. Show the good side of Pit Bulls. Punish the people that mistreat them, not the breed.
I too am an owner of a beautiful blue brindle female pit. I have had her since 12 weeks old. She has gone to work (detail shop/car wash) almost everyday since I have got her. She has changed many peoples views of these dogs since owning her. I have had no problems with aggression or misbehavior, other than normal puppy stuff. She has become a very important part of my business. She interacts with my customers, and most of all, is my companion.
I encourage any and all to come visit her at Fantastik Finish
118 SE 164th Ave.
Vancouver, WA
she will normally be lying in front of my shop door.
This is the only breed to have. Lets punish ignorant/irresponsible pitbull owners/breeders.
I adopted 3 pittbulls and they couldn't be nicer. One of which had been used as a fighting dog. With enough patiance we can understand them. They are extremely intelligent and so nice. They're great around my 5 year old niece. They protect her as if she was one of their puppies. When she hurts herself they run over to her to make sure she's alright. They are some of the nicest dogs in the world. We just need to understand them.
I have rescued 6 dogs, 2 of which are pitbulls, and I have to say they are the most intelligent breed I think I have ever known. It's almost like communicating with a child. The facial expressions are wonderful; mine do smile when they're happy. The way they can understand everything you say to them (in my case, I have resorted to spelling and they understand that too) just amazes me. This breed is not born vicious, they are taught it. Both of mine are such wonderful, loving animals. I have a 90 pound one that is a big baby and is very good around other animals. My 60 pound one is very "other animal aggressive". But, both love people, all people and both think that they are lapdogs. Because I know their reputation, and their strength, I never have them outside off a leash or unattended; no matter how trustworthy they are with people; especially the smaller one because of his aggressiveness toward other animals. Now, I know that some dogs are born with defects (just as some humans are) and they have some mental/personality problems. But I believe that in most cases, it's not the dogs that are bad; its the owners. Responsible pitbull owners and their family members (dogs included) should not be punished for the acts of the irresponsible ones. I have had many offers to breed my 90 pound male and make a tremendous amount of money for it. I know what the reasons were for people wanting to breed their bitches with him; he truly is the largest and most muscular pit and one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen. Any puppy created by him would be a member of my extended family and I would never put my family at risk by allowing them to become a statistic and keep the bad reputation going. I turned down every offer. The worst dog I had was a 5 year old beagle. This was also a rescue. He came from several abusive homes and ended up biting every member of my family several times. This is probably due to his previous irresponsible owners; I know the
Typically reporters cover both sides of all stories...I have been waiting for this to happen with the pit bull breed, but have yet to hear the postitive sides of this breed...and there are many. Please cover the other half of the story.
I have been a APBT supporter for many years. I have owned several and this is the only breed I will own. Do some research like reporters are suppose to do before you report on the animal.
pitbulls are wonderful animals. punish the bad owners and breeders!!!! I have a pitbullshe is a wonderful and lazy dog. I also have her son who is 1/2 pitbull and 1/2 amercian bull dog people are more affaird of him and his father them my girl.
Its just wrong!! Dogs are better friends than most people, i have found. You want justice? Sick those bad boys on their breeders and "trainers". Now thats entertainment.
People who make these wonderful dogs mean should be banned, not the dogs! If you bring up any living thing with love, it will give love in return. If you treat it mean, then that is all it will know!
We have a female pitbull named Jewell. I have had different breeds of dogs all my life and she is one of the most loving. We have two children in the household a 4 and 7 year old that she just adores.
I have a pitbull mix, and she is the best dog I have ever had! I have friends that have pitbulls, and they really are wonderful dogs. I think it is very sad that these sweet, gentle animals are being TAUGHT to be aggressive! These people need to be banned! Not the dogs!
like any animal, people need knowledge on them. I am so against the banning of pitbulls I will move if they ban them in my county, but again I am getting real tired of people that get pitbulls just to be cool and loose interest in them as fast as they got them and stick them out on a chain(most chaindogs end up being mean dogs)or give them up they eventually will get mind boggled and mean. they are dogs that love to please there masters and exercise there mind and body. Stupid People should not own pitbulls. Maybe we should come up with a Breed Knowledge Test for them instead of banning. We are going to ban our WW mascott thats not very american of us. My dog would never attack or be overly aggresive because i have worked hard at training him there is friends like squirells and little dogs and cats might be alittle more difficult ONLY BECAUSE HE WAS NEVER RAISED WITH ONE. THEY WILL LOVE AND HONOR WHAT YOU RAISE IT WITH, OR TRAIN IT TO BE.vc
My daughter and I attend dog shows on a frequent basis, AKC shows. I have never witnessed any of the pitbulls or other breeds being aggressive in any matter towards anyone. An individual I know feels that they should be outlawed, I guess one should remind that a border collie is the breed that bit her grandchild. I myself have lost the tip of a finger to a lab. The dogs respond to how they are handled, there can be bad combinations of breeding, that can be regulated. Any animal can show aggression, maybe the people who purchase the dogs should be regulated!
FOX news is an evil media conglomerate. They only report stories which make money. I know pitbulls are good dogs - it is the owner who is responsible - but Fox would not make any money making a show like this. Good luck anyway. I hope it works out.
My wife introduced me to these dogs 11 years ago. Until that time all I knew about the breed was what the media wanted me to believe...boy are they wrong. The problem is with people NOT the animals. We need tougher laws and fines for people who abuse and mistreat any animals. There are NOT bad dogs just BAD people.
Regardless of type of animal, be it dogs or cats or cattle, it is the owners responsibility to keep the animal in good health. That means you feed it well with food and love, and if the owner is unable to meet the needs of the animal, it should be required by law that the owner find the animal a new home. Should an amimal be destructive, it's because of the owners lack of responsibility, and the owner should be held responsible for damages...no questions asked.
Our pit bull Angel is year old and is a great house dog. She brings us much happiness every day. She loves people and other dogs, and is not agressive at all.
Ok, how many people love those Disney commercials with the black & white Dog????I sure do! I'm not sure that this dog is 100% Pit, but close. Alot of people don't even know that they are watching one! Alot of people are scared of the name "Pit Bull" couldn't spot one if it walked right by them. I did see a news story about a month ago about two pitbulls in Portland (or Longview?) that came to the aid of a lady who was being mauled by a Chow. The dogs jumped the fence from their back yard and took the Chow down and saved the lady. It was nice to see soething positive, but it is VERY RARE that it happens. My pitt is the sweetest dog around. She lets my 21 month old son crawl on her, ride her back, and lovingly pull her ears. She never responds in anyway but by licking him. When she is outside with her "boys" 9 year old and 21 month old, she never takes her eyes off them. She would never let anything happen to her boys. Her name is Spirit and she is definitely named well! Our insurance agent claims that she could cancel our insurance for having a pitt. She knows it, but classifies Spirit as a terrier. Is that wrong or what! It is time for good press! It's time that people get educated about the sincere kindness of these animals, along with being very intelligent.
Our family (including children ages 7 & 9) have loved all of the pit bulls we've owned. We currently have Joker, our fourth pit. He is a very important and special part of our family. That's all it takes - a loving family that is willing and knows how to raise these dogs properly. FOX could do pit bull owners a great deed by telling the other side of this wonderful breed!
I have helped find homes for 2 homeless pitbulls and while they were with me, they cuddled with me and gave me more love than any dog I have been near.
I firmly believe all dogs, no matter what breed, will respond to thier owner in a like manner of how they are treated. ALthough I would not personally own a pit bull I do not believe they should be banned because of a few that have gotten a bad home.
Animals are no different then people. They have personalities which differ and judging the many over a few is cruel to us and them. By banning these animals we will miss all of the great things they could have and would have done. At the very least these breeds should be shown proper respect or else we will reap the reprecussions.
I never met any domesticated animal, including a pit bull that I couldn't successfully interact with, armed with nothing more than the proper understanding of their means of communication and a demonstration of my sincere will to do no harm to them. A strong and loving owner can do wonders to turn even a problem animal around into a loving and reliable asset to any family, which I personally know from experience. We need pet owner training, not a ban on these innocent creatures.
I used to be fearful of these dogs until my son got one and I fell in love! He was raised with my newborn granddaughter, and they were the best of friends. Responsible ownership is the key, as these can be beautiful, loving, and loyal family members!
Just watch a program saying the bad about pitbulls at the end of the story they said it is not the dogs but the owners who do not properly train and disciplend the dogs as with any dog who is not trained! the owners are responsible not the dogs!
Yet another piece of legislation on dog's, that will do nothing but elevate the problem. When the real cause of the problem lies with irresponsible ownership of animal's. Bob Carr, by supporting this legislation, you sir, are only after votes. You and your informer's know absolutely zit about Pit Bull's or the problem. I have taken care of all my large dog's over the past twenty year's, no problem's. while you Bob, have been conning the public into believing you are a great guy. Bob, the only thing you are good at is kissing ass.
What need's to be done, is implement a licencing system for human's to purchase animal's and leave people, that really want to take care and love them, the only ones to purchase animal's.. No one with a criminal record and only those with references from vetarnarian's, would be able to purchase animal's. The outlawing of pet shop's, is another part of this legislation that need's implementing. When are the government going to realise, by banning Pit Bull's, owner's will go underground or change the name Pit Bull into something else. Legally then you can own these dog's, because you have wrtten proof that these dog's are not Pit's. There is way's around it. Or safe houses like mine will spring up.
By making the Pit's extint, you dont touch the problem, because irresponsible children and adult's will allway's make it hard for any animal to survive. What dog is next. German Shepard's, Rottweiler's, Doberman's. Government has already tried to take our gun's and knives from the public. That back fired. Man is responsible for the extinction of most animal's this world has had. Man is the major problem here. Bob, i believe all you are doing is putting a band aid on a cancer patient and you people know that the real reason is to abolish public ownership of domesticated animal's. My six and seven year old's have two dog
My husband and I have dedicated our lives to the maintanence and sanctuary of this wonderful breed. Never, in the 30 years of having this breed have we ever had a man aggressive dog, EXCEPT when we have taken one from someone where it had been mistreated.
Breed Specific Legislation is not the answer as many lawmakers think, we believe hard penalties on the irresponsible owner is what is necessary.
It's time to focus on the owners, not the breed. Our pit bull is a peach. Any dog raised by bad people will be problematic, unfortunately bad people choose pit bulls a 'pets'.
I am happy to join the efforts to promote APBT's as good family pets. I have had 3, and would always choose to own this breed. They are smart, loving companions who need our support.
I have owned and bred American Pit Bull Terriers for 20 years. My kids were raised with them, and we never, ever, had a problem with the breed. It is not the breed that is the problem--the problem is irresponsible owners! Punish them!
I own 3 pitbulls (mom, dad, puppy), I used to be on the otherside of the fence about these dogs. It took alot of research and convincing for me to even get one but we did. Then we got another. I feel horible for feeling the way i did before which was all media induced . These dogs have been the greatest thing they are not mean at all.I completly agree that it is all in the way you raise them. They are our kids. I am so upset about this whole situation regaurding the pitbull attack on the lady in Portland because she is saying they all should disappear which is wrong. I bet if her weiner dog bit someone and they said that all weiner dogs should be removed i bet she would have a FIT. I am so SICK and TIRED of hearing these stories on the news. I have been tempted to take mine up to portland to this news station and put these people in a room with them. Within 10 mins I bet they change there mind. It is time we stand up for them they are animals who just want to be loved. Just like any other animal. My little ankle biting taco bell dog mix is more dangerous then my pits Ha Ha. For godsake we need to stand together and prove to these people that these so called dangerous dogs are not bad.
I have owned pit bulls for 25 years and have NEVER had an incident with any dogs i've owned. Positive air time about these dogs is long overdue! Breed bans DO NOT work and more importantly will only serve to endanger our dogs more. No breed is inherently dangerous. Through abuse and neglect any dog can be made aggressive. What we need are tougher laws against people who commit animal abuse and neglect. It is my opinion that the media is killing our dogs with all the negative and uneducated press. The media needs to stop spreading fear by jumping at every chance they get to air negative lopsided stories. I say they should be forced to read all the horrible stories (pit bulls thrown from speeding cars, pit bull thrown on hot BBQ grill, pit bulls that are shot and or throats slit and left for dead) about the abuse inflicted upon these wonderful & loving dogs.
The dog is not the problem, It's the owner.Any breed if treated cruelty will respond in a manner of aggression. I've has a number of friends who have owned pits, dobie and other. If you treat any animal kindly you will have a kind & loving animal. There needs to be stiffer laws towards the owners not the animal.
THANK YOU FOR TRYING TO GET SOME POSTIVE AIR TIME FOR PITBULLS.I HAVE A 9 YR OLD PIT WHO HAS NEVER SHOWN ANY SIGN OF AGGRESSION.HE IS THE MOST LOVING,SMART DOG I HAVE EVER HAD.I WOULD NOT TRADE HIM FOR ANYTHING!!!
Wer have a doberman who has the same bad reputation. Louie is the best and most loving dog on the planet and makes freinds with pit bulls all the time. We hope to have a pit bull soon. We have friends with pit bulls and know at leats over onhundred pit bull owners. Not one of them ever bit anybody or is even remotely agressive.
I have known many of these dogs over the years and the only ones that are even remotely mean are the ones which are raised by mean and nasty owners. It is NOT the dog breed that is bad, it is the owners. Any dog that is raised in a mean way will be a mean dog. Look at Rotts, or German Shepards, or any of the breeds. I am outraged that there are never any good stories, or stories that tell the truth. Dog are not mean unless they are raised mean. I know of a close friend that raises these dogs as guide dogs. Now tell me how if they are supposed to be these mean killing animals can she train them as guide dogs. These dogs which are always around people have NEVER done anything but lick your face and just want to be near you. We must STOP portraying these animals as the mean and nasty dog that they are not. Please try and change this.
Nancy
My boyfriend has a 1 1/2 yr old pit who is very loving. She comes to the door and jumps up to give hugs, but yet if course is protective of her surroundings as any dog can be. Its how the dog is raised, not the breed.
Many dogs breeds have attacked people. I have a friend who is terrified of Pomeranians due to being attacked by three when she was a child. I also know people who have been attacked the the family Dacshound. It is not just large breed dogs that have aggresive behavior. Standard Poodles have been know to attack children and adults. All it takes is bad owners or bad temperment. The breed isn't an issue, the raising of the dog is the issue. I also believe more parents should take the time to teach their children to not engage any strange dog, no matter how cute it is.
I don't beleive that banning Pit Bulls will solve the problem. The dogs arent the problem anyway, its the owners and dog fighters, who need to have stronger consequences. People need to understand that the dogs are raised by people to be mean, those people should be banned, not the dogs!!!
I am a proud owner of two american pit bull terriers. They are loyal, intellegent, smart, and loving dogs. They aren't the problem, it's the wrong people owning them. Please help spread the good news about them.
People need to have more education about pitbulls. The owners are responsible for the dogs actions not the dog, if you train them for fighting or if they are abused then of course they will be aggressive towards them then it the owners own fault how the dog reacts, all breeds of dogs have the same reaction. I have a pitbull she is the most loving dog I have ever had and i will own another pit anytime I feel sorry for those who will never know how loving these animals are. They are missing out on a very smart and loyal dog. I'm very proud and and feel very special that I own one. One more thing these dogs have feeling just like you and me they are not a prize or for a status symbol. There are too many people that get these dogs for that reason.
I can't say enough good things about our Sophia. She is loving, friendly, loyal and loves to give kisses. She knows the difference between her ball, rope, bone and her favorite froggie. It's how you raise them as to how they will behave. We are raising her with love, praise kindness, and yes discipline too. She is almost six months old and is such a delight.
dogs, all animals are as equal as us. people who don't believe that deserve to die. animals are caring. humans came and messed up the whole circle of things. we need to fix it. animals never get to be able to have a say in things. they're being abused. people are supporting this by not fully exposing puppy mills and buying animals from pet stores. its wrong and all of it needs to stop. not just with dogs, and cats , or ferrets and birds, rats, pigs all animals need to be safe and have a home where they can be. save our animals. you can't just kill dogs. you should kill the idiots who think you can. i have a pitbull and i save the animals in danger that i find. i'm a vegetarian, and that odesn't even matter, but people who slaughter and kill animals are idiots, they thin kthey can just make up laws. pitbulls are sweet, just because they are strong doesn't mean they're gonna kill you. they'll help you. pitbulls are trains by asses who think that they can make some money. those stupid republicans think they own everything, well, all animals are incredible and are as free as humans. humans messed up the whole circle already. the people who think they can mess with animals should be killed and made to suffer.
...
i have owned and bred U.K.C. american pit bull terriers for more than 15 years.i am the first one to admit this breed is not for every one and that is part of the problem.as is the lack of public education.most of the dogs i see on the news are not pure bred A.P.B.T. there are also problems with the wrong people tring to breed these dogs.i think the news outlets should do a better job of representing both sides of this problem.
I have a 2yr old pit bull at home and I just can't stand it when he's discriminated against just because of his breed. He is the most affectionate, kindest, most gentile animal I have ever owned or encountered. Pit Bulls are loyal, magnificent animals and it's because of people no higher on the food chain than MOLD that their good nature and willingness to please their masters is lost among these drug dealers and simply put, SCUM OF THE EARTH. PLEASE, HELP SAVE A LIFE AND ADOPT A RESCUED PIT BULL. Your heart will thank you!!
