The prejudice needs to stop. This is a wonderful breed of dog. These ignorant people that go by myths and blown up media stories need to wake up. Do some research and you will find that this breed is loving, loyal, and all around good. Yes, like with any breed there are some bad owners out there, but not bad dogs. Wake up people.

it is ridiculous that these dogs are being banned. the only reason they are vicious is because they have bad owners. all other types of dogs are the same way if they are miss-treated. it is never the animals fault, it is always the owners.

My baby Nina is one of the best dogs in the world. She is a beautiful blue pit who has nothing but love and affection to give. People shouldn't judge these dogs but instead try to get to know them instead of running away b/c my beautiful speciman of a dog has a big cut physique that scares them. Under all their muscle they have the biggest heart for people.

The media needs to do an honest UNBIASED story on pitbulls. I've been bitten over the years by several dogs unprovoked but never a pit. They only show pitbull attacks on the news because the breed has been sensationalized as a vicious killer so they are seeking ratings. It's all about how the dog has been raised, no matter what breed it is. There was a time in this country (still is in some groups) where certain races were generalized like this...

My dog Zion is part pitbull he is the most amazing, loving dog. There is not one mean bone in his body. He recently was attacked by a german shepard and attempted to walk away from the fight, not continue it. He was so visciously attacked he could hardly walk. He is now healed and has no problems with other dogs, he only wants to play.

Our dog has been attacked by a blue healer, a chow mix, a german shepard, and a pitbull. She is the sweetest most loving dog I have ever owned. She is a pitbull, who plays gently with children, cats, and all dogs. Dogs attack everday. Whether they bite another dog, or person. I sick of the media making a public announcment everytime that attack comes from a pit.

There is no such thing as a bad breed of dog. All dogs can bite if provoked. Responsible dog ownership is the key so you cant blame the dogs they are goofily friendly towards people--family, friends, and strangers alike so BLAME THE DEED NOT THE BREED

I could not disagree more. Pitbulls are viscious animals no matter how you raise them. My cousin raised a pitbull and never hit it or anything ever, it was the most sweetest thing ever so we thought and then it attacked m wifes 4 year old nephew for no reason and now the little boy has horrific scars on his face. Pitbulls were bread to be viscious, it is in their nature, i think they should be outlawed in any kind of residential neighborhood. Either that or be completely wiped off the face of the earth.

Growing up my family raised AKC dogs. Seems I was always around dogs of one type or another but never Pits. What a shame as I've worked in a shelter for 7 years now and, having saved 600+ dogs of all types, I find Pits to be among the very best and certainly least understood dog we place. They routinely score well in temperament tests and are clearly a more steady and trustworthy dog than the average AKC purebred.

I am not an owner of a pitbull but my daughter has one and I have never been scared of him because she has raised him with a loving hand. Should we give any one the right to come in to our home and say we cannot have a certain breed of dog.

Apparently, people can be really dumb sometimes. PIT BULLS ARE LOYAL. They act like whatsomever you want them to. If you keep them well, and want them to be nice, they'll think, "Okay, they want me to be nice so I will!" And people who want aggressive Pits... "Gee, this guy is really pushing me around hard. Just yesterday they beat me with a shovel! I'm mad now and if they want me to be mean, then that's what I'll be!" Besides, more Toy dogs and Cockers bite every year. There will always be bad dogs of EVERY breed, not just Pit Bulls. If you take away the Pits, then you should take away the Labs, Boxers, and German Shepherds as well.

I agree. Dogs will be dogs and if they are trained to be violent or seriously neglected then it doesn't matter the breed. A violent dog is only violent because of the ignorance of its owner. If it's not pitbulls then it's another breed. A well put-together, loving owner will in turn have a loving and kind dog.

Not only is she not agressive she is a baby, if someone strange walks in the house and I am not there she will run out the doggie door and hide in the back yard (seriously my boss went to feed her when I was out of town and she did just that). My pit bull has been attacked by more little ankle biters and not retaliated than I care to talk about. An aggressive dog is an aggressive dog no mater the size and the OWNER should be held responsible for its deeds. Please show the good side of the feard pit bull.Lola is a lover not a fighter. Neither she nor I have done anything to be punished because of some idiot’s negligence. The new ban proposed will not solve the problem at hand just turn it over to a different breed, the bad owners are still out there.

i have a 4 yrs wonderful pitbull she is sweet and a cuddle bug. All dogs that are mistreated by their owners or breeders are the problem. We just recently had a pitbull on the news that attacked a cat and the owner of the cat. Why it happened? Simple the dog was roaming free no one to control his actions because the owner didn't take responibilty. Why should all pitbulls be stero typed as killer and maulers? It's because the News and people protray them to be. You don't see very much coverage on any other dogs in the news and that's a crime. People need to wake up and take responsibilty of the animals give them heafty fines on all dog attacks. If this ban goes in to effect they can kiss my hiney I WILL NOY GIVE UP MY DOG! So far they have banned pitbulls in Colorado and 110 pitbulls were taken to shelters and of course we all know what they will do with theose animals, it's heart breaking. Animals are not for show they have feeling like the rest of us.

I just recently brought a pit bull/boxer mix into the family and i have never seen such a sweeter dog. I know this sounds silly, but the other day I was taking him for a walk and a dog off a leash came running at him. My poor baby was so excited with his tail wagging wanting to play and this damn BASSETT HOUND ATTACKED MY DOG! I had to pick him up and carry him home because he was so shook up. Thank goodness he didn't bite him. My dog is friendly with every passerby and is in LOVE with my nephew. He even sits by him at dinner time. I have done the research and these dogs can be one of the most lovable breeds to exist. It's so true about the owners and their irresponsible attitudes towards raising dogs. Any dog can be aggressive with a stupid, or I should say ignorant owner. It takes patience and lots of love to make any dog an "acceptable" dog. I am apalled at the media for exploiting this breed in such a vicious way. I really hope that one day people can see the true side of this breed.

EVERY type of dog is capable of attacking. The pit bull is not even the most aggressive or responsible for the most attacks. They have a bad rap because of their looks and media hype. Many dogs labelled as pit bulls are not even that! They are crosses etc. It is not right to destroy a whole breed of dog because of a few attacks. We don't do it to other animals, or people for that matter.

I think it would be great to do a positive story on pit bulls. It saddens me that all these people all over the world want to start putting bans on this breed. It is not the dogs fault that irresponsible owners train and raise these dogs to be aggressive. People only hear the negitive sides of irresponsible owner bites, they listen to the media and don't do any research themselves to know that pit bulls are indeed very loving and stive on human bonds any pit bull that attacks is only doing what there owner has taught them to do, in order to please there owner. These pit bulls are going to be extinct one day because of bans. This ban is not going to stop pit bull maulings, because it is the scumbag owners that fight them illegally any ways. putting a ban on the breed will only effect the good owners and the good dogs. the horrible people who own them to look tough fought them illegally, they will breed and own them illegally. I am very adament about saving the breed from all this media hype that just is NOT TRUE!!!! I have a pit bull in our family, and i also have a 4 year old son, they love each other he would never hurt him, my sister also owns a pit bull and he is also very sweet. we both say we would never own any other breed now, they are just the best. bar none, no comparison to the loyality, loving, goofy personality. I hate poser gangsters and even real ones because they think it looks tough to own this dog. but a coward, wimp who needs a gun and a dog to feel superoir is still a coward with both in hand. He is more afraid of you than you are of him. I 100 % agree that it is the not the dogs fault if aggressive. It is his/her people for teaching the dog. Pit Bull's are natural pleasure of their people. If taught to be aggressive towards "others" than the dog will aim to please and not know any difference. She has been around my children, in fact she was born 2 mos before my little guy so they have grown up together. I want the media to see the gentelness of these dogs. They are wonderful pets and they have always been wonderful pets. If you look back in history many famous people owned pit bulls. Fred Astaire, President Roosevelt, Thomas Edison, President Woodrow Wilson, and the list goes on and on. Pit Bulls were the American mascot of World War 1 and were even on posters during war time. These are amazing dogs and it is time that the truth be told about them. The media has portrayed them out to be monsters. This constant slander against her breed is rediculous and ignorant, perhaps even as much so as sexism and racism among human "breeds". The media really has the general public worked up into a frenzy about Pit Bulls and they have instilled fear through unbalanced media coverage. Pit Bulls, like any other dogs, have the potential to bite if they are raised irresponsibly and/or abused by their owners. Who hasn't been bit by a dog at one point in their life? I was bit by a neighbors dog as a child (I have the scars to prove it), but do you think that made the evening news?! No way! Now, every time a Pit Bull is involved in any sort of altercation, it is the top story. They need to represent the other side of the story - like the comments listed on this page, for their reporting to be at all balanced.

I was also fearful of this breed. But when Porter came into our lives he changed all of us for the better. Porter came to us from kids on the street. He had mange and was very skinny. I had my doubts that we would keep him because I thought he would be a fighter and hurt our other dog and cat. That was NOT the case. After many skin treatments and doctor visits he had taken to all of our hearts. Porter loves us so much and is so grateful. He is gentle and the biggest wussy you will ever meet. He loves all animals, people and kids. He watches butterflies and airplanes and loves the animal channel. What an amazing dog. I get so teared up when I see these dogs on the street and being portrayed as vicious dogs. I challenge the media to get real and find positive information about these wonderful dogs. It's all about the reflection of the owners. So please stop the madness and do the right thing. This family is getting tired of all the negativity in the world. Thank you Porter for joing our family!

I agree with previous comments on the fact that Humans are the ones responsible for the bad reputation of Pit Bulls.

I was once fearful of this breed. This was mostly due to unfair media coverage. In fact, when given the chance to own one I almost shouted NO!! After seeing my sweet boy I took him home straight away. Since then, I have become friends with several other Pits, never have I met a more lovable, gentle breed. In fact, my family is looking to adopt another dog and we will settle for nothing but another Pit. We also have 2 small children, who since getting Arlo 2 years ago, have become activists on Pits as well. Please use your media influence to educate others about this breed. Irresponsible, inhumane PEOPLE are the cause for these horrific stories of aggression and attack. Maybe you should do a story about the horrifc cruelty this breed seems to attract( only because they are so eager to please) Unfortunately, they are the victims and will never get a chance until you report it that way

My husband grew up with Pit Bulls, I grew up thinking they were dangerous. About 6 years ago we got a beautiful brindle from the pound, she was a year old. I love this dog more than I can even explain. She is the best dog I have ever had the privelege of owning. If the news is looking for a good pit bull to report on, I would gladly bring our dog down to the station.

I have two American Pitbull Terriers, and they are the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. They are really gentle and good around kids. The problem isn't the dog, it's the owner. If you train your dog the correct way then they are just as good as black lab. They are exstreamly smart and very affectionate! Pitbull bulls are truly a great dog.

My friend has a pitbull named monty. She got him from a biker. He is the most clumsy, lovable, affectiona te doggy you could ever come across.Yes;he has injured me and my children too,but only due to the fact that he reckons he's a lap dog;he tends to tread on ones'goolies everytime. It's all in the breeding and raising...couple that with responsible dog ownership etc,and they are a fine breed.Men made this breed violent-men can breed it back out......

My husband & I have had a pitbull in our lives for the last 17 years. They are wonderful, smart dogs. The media needs to do more research regarding this breed before they air these biased stories. I'm tired of all the negative press these great dogs are getting. Try looking at the owners instead of the animal.

I can attest to the sweetness of the pit! My sister's Pitbull is the most loving dog I have ever met (besides my own little Terrier of course). This "terror" would lick me for hours if I let him!

I have loved and lived with an American Staffordshire Terrior for the past 8 years. He is a loving and happy outgoing dog who loves nothing more than to lick all the visitors to my home. I worked as a volunteer for a Pit Bull rescue for 6 years - I know this breed. It is time that people knew the true nature of these dogs - that they are loving, intelligent and eager to please dogs that need to be loving members of families. The cruelty this breed experiences by being used as fighting dogs and bait dogs needs to be stopped and the people who cause this pain need to be prosecuted and punished. The media needs to stop portraying these dogs as monsters just to get ratings. Funny how, the media never portrays the people who hurt these dogs as monsters. The ignorance & prejudice against this breed needs to be stopped.
