Pit bulls can be very good dogs. They get a bad reputation because of idiot people who breed them for fighting. They protect thier families. they are very good dogs.
I am still looking for a mean Pit Bull. I have known a lot (through friends who had them), have now fostered three, and they are the most happy, fun, and loving dogs -- of course, none of my friends had trained their dogs to fight, nor abused them, nor treated them in any way that would make them angry or bewildered or vicious. On the other hand, I knew a protective poodle who almost bit my ear off because I tripped and bumped his owner on my way to the floor. I haven't heard any plans to ban POODLES in any of our fine States.
No dog laws, unless strictly adhered to is gonna make a difference to the "criminal element" that has caused this breed to be so shamefully represented. Laws are only abided by the lawful; hence only the decent owners & good dogs will be affected. Spend tax dollars to ENFORCE the dog laws already in place instead of wasting our money!
We need to address the real problem and that is animal abuse/neglect, and an ignorant ("don't want to be involved!") society that doesn't care about anything until the government tells them to that they should care. Wake up people - address issues, don't go for quick fixes.
PLEASE DON'T hate my dog just because she is a pit bull. That is the same thing as saying that we must kill all black, white, or whatever, people just because of their color.B.S
If we were talking about the human race and not dogs - banning a breed would be considered racist.
We need to clear up the misinformation out there. It's not fair to encourage a fearful and uneducated society when the true facts speak for themselves - Pit bulls are extremely loving, gentle and intelligent.
I think its disgusting that these ignorant politicians are focusing on banning pit bulls. With all the crap going on in the world today I feel that we have more important things to focus on. Obviously being attacked by a dog is frightening and traumatic, but both times that I have been attacked by dogs, they were small. And definatly no offense to small dogs but the truth remains that one was a weiner dog, and one was a cocker spaniel. I have yet to encounter a pitbull I am afraid of. And people know that there is nothing to be scared of, its just some people have a certain predjudice idea about who owns pitties. Every walk of life owns pitbulls, from grandma's, to children. And it
is unfair to think that only
"Criminals"and
"tough guys" own them. Anyways I love all breeds and I would be devastated if pitbulls were banned.
The real truth is that Bryant is using the pitbull issue as a smoke screen to put all dogs under scrutiny and threat. Most are being swayed and fooled into debating the pitbull issue...read Bill 132 and see what a "dangerous" dog of any brred has to do to get into trouble>
This is a wonderful gentle breed. This problem is much like the gun control issue.bad people will do bad things regardless of laws period. Please help stop th epersecution of these dogs
Portia is the first dog I've ever owned and I do not regret my decision to choose the pit bull breed. I was afraid of all dogs all my life and when I educated myself on this breed it was and is my first and only choice in a dog. Aggression is a learned behavior. Irresponsible ownership is the problem not these innocent animals. Don't forget, Helen Keller had a pit bull and the Little rascals too. If they weren't considered vicious at that time - then you must ask yourself - what happened. It's not the animal but the owner. The Pit Bull has been given a bad rap and we need to fight for our loving and gentle pets.
Pit Bulls are THE MOST misunderstood breed out there. Pit bulls are not bred mean, they are made mean. We are the ones fighting them, making them aggressive just so we can pass them off as tough dogs. They are so loving and there are so many innocent Pits out there that are beaten and neglected because of the bad reputation that we have bestowed upon them. The truth needs to be shown to everyone so that these poor dogs can be placed in homes with people who will love them, not fight them. I was never a dog person until I got my pitties, and I thank God everyday for them.
Fix the problem owner problem, deal with ALL dog attacks and dog problems regardless of breed. Breed bans don't work, those irresponsible owners will just find a new "muscle dog" to ruin. As the owner of 4 large, high energy dogs I would rather see everyone taking responsibility, including the people who own the little rat-dog down the street that bites and nips, but is "Cute and adorable" because of its size.
I have 2 pit bulls and the one i call bonnie is real loveable and loves my grandkids that lives with me and the other dog my oldest grandaughter dresses him in baby clothes and he loves her.he sat and wait for them to get off the bus,so there is nothing wrong with pit bulls they are real good dogs and i love them so no one should hurt them.
The shame is in ignorance. If you don't educate yourselves with regards to the breed, than like anything else in life you should consider yourself ignorant. Just like a child if you don't spend time and educate the dog it to will be a problem. You wouldn't abuse your child than you shouldn't abuse your Pit.

Yes I own pit bulls we own 4 [3 males 1 female] we have had them sence they were puppies .They are the most sweetest dogs and they have never bit any one they are very well behaved animals .2 of them sleep on the foot of my bed I have grandchildren and trust my dogs completly with them . My son rasies and sell pitbulls and he has a section of his yard that he uses for rescues which him and his wife keep until a home is found for them some times they have dogs for months before a suitable home is found the money for this comes out of there pockets they do this for the love the animals. they have a vet that works with them and helps them out they never sell a rescued animal they have been doing this for a couple of years I feel so sorry for the dogs that are brough to them they have been so mistreated as long as there are people out there like my son and daughterinlaw may be the dogs will have a chance someday.
Banning a breed has never been a solution, it's a major mistake. Dangerosity is not a breed concept, but a multifactorial one!!! Punish the deed, not the Breeds.

I have no patience for irresponsible pet owners. The dogs are the innocent victims. There was an incident in Kentucky a few years ago. A two year old boy wondered into a fenced backyard of a neighbor. The neighbor's pits killed the boy. The dogs were punished, the owner tried and convicted. The pits were very close to being put down. But.......nothing happened to the kid's parents. Why were they not jailed???????? Where were they when the child was trespassing in a neighbor's yard? Obviously, I have no patience with irresponsible parents either.
If you ban stupidity you won't have anymore unresponsible dog owners therefore you would have far less bites or a lot of other problems going on. Point out the irresponsible owners, dog fighters etc. Punishs the deed not the breed.
You said atavism, heritage or genotype?
Here some time now that the evil and cheating are not represented any more by the sempiternal German shepherd or malinois. Indeed, this phenomenon which followed closely the fashion of these known as-dogs turned? Today it is new a cerbčre, a new monster characterized by a jaw which can be the equal one of a large white shark (read in the newspapers!) an animal which is assoiffée of blood and seeks only potential victims during all its life (?) I named: Does the PITBULL Only its name make tremble most courageous? But let us return on ground! What could well make that a race which for a long time now, did not press the sandy ground of the arenas any more and which is selected for its temperament jovial and friendly becomes the black animal of the people right-thinking people? Here is a possible explanation: Jeunessesāmusiqueāhip-hop āsnoop dogādobermann/rott./pitbu llā!!! Banlieueābesoin of reconnaissanceācompagnonā intimidationāpitbullā!!! Journauxāsensationnelsāmo deāpsychoseāchienāpitbull ā!!! Modeābesoinsācheptelāterr ierāréputationāpitbullā!! ! Etc? Indeed, unfortunately, the dogs of the burrow type have consequent ranges, a sturdy character, allowing a minimum of rebellion if for example the place or the care misses (they is solids!). Moreover, the fact that the newspapers speak with all goes from this dog does nothing but consolidate the most stripped (include/understand: "I am p' tit, ugly, not money and I want super to be recognized!") to have a pitbull. Knowing that contrary to other less prolific races on the level of the pups, the pit is acclimatized to all the environments because it sociable and is very attached to its Master (or its "torturer"!). On the basis of the principle of popularity, it opened the door of the "sanguinary monsters" with good of other races, all that is "bulldozer" or "molosse" is now the panacea of "I make fear", t
If only I knew as many nice children as I do nice dogs...pitbulls included. Let's put the blame for dogs bites where it belongs...with the owner. With all the species of animals we try to save from extinction every day it sickens me that eliminating a breed of dog is even being considered.
If you ban pit bulls, who's going to go up to the rural school that my mother teaches at educate the kids on how to act around dogs and that they do not all have to be feared? Who's going to pull a whole pile of them around the school yard in a sled?
There are much deeper reasons not to...I'm just using one example to proving a point.
A friend of mine has two American pitbull terriers, one male and one female. They are the most loving dogs. It's not the animals fault when they have irresponsible owners. A peek-a-poo will become violent if mistreated and provoked.
I have 3 American Pit Bull Terriers. They are home raised and share their own bedroom. Their diet consists of raw meat, fresh fruits and vegetables blended by a food processor, cottage cheese or yogurt, and a few nutritious supplements. I also have a 2 year old and an 8 month old. I love my daughters and chose this breed because of their temperment towards children and people in general. I believe that all pet owners must be responsible pet owners. It is important to get to know your pet's breed characteristics, pedigree information, and most importantly, their personality. If only the media will finally show that the american Pit Bull Terrier is a wonderful breed that has abad reputation because people have been irresponsible and negligent. PUNISH THE DEED, NOT THE BREED.
I have owned and raised American Pit Bull Terriers since the early 1980s and my granddaughter, now 21, has always had an American Pit Bull Terrier in her life. Yes, she has bit BUT that was by a Labrador Retriever. Labrador Retrievers are not known as a breed that bites but this particular dog did. Because of the media's slant on stories, the American Pit Bull Terrier and it's owners are suffering from biased news stories. Please, Fox Network, do a story and air the TRUE facts about the true temperament of the American Pit Bull Terrier. This story along would get you more viewers than any other news story you might run. It would be of interest to those that love the breed, those that don't and those who are uneducated. Thank you for considering our request.
