I work as a vet tech, and I see the most loving pits come into our office.
Then again I see people with heavy chains & making these dogs mean, because
they think it's cool. I would never own one, but I think with the right
person these can make a wonderful pet. |

Pitbulls should NOT be feared. These are great family dogs. The only
aggressive pits are trained by callous people to be that way.I would love
to see if only once a story aired by the Media(who has ruined their image
in the first place)in a POSITIVE manner. Its time to shed light to the
public about how great this breed is instead of headlines saying
"Another pit has attacked an innocent child"!Why not do storys on
the number one child biters which are ****er spaniels. When most people are
asked--what do you think of when you hear the word PITBULL?--your usual
response will be a mean, aggressive, attacking dog! This is not true!
Please help the public ease their unwarrented fears of this breed. Its
people who make them that way. Please run this story!!!!! |

with the breed for oveer 30yrs showing and breeding.Dogs I bred became one

also one that became

and a logo dog for a reputable kennel
that was on local stations as their logo dog.
and a compaion dog all rolled into one that was taken to schools and
nurseing
homes in Blacksberg V.A.How ever this breed of dog has been the most
missunderstood dog of modern times yet this breed can accomplish anything
other breeds can and are more reliabe
it boils down to this fact that irrespnsible ownershiip and breeding have
like other breeds brought this breed to the forfront of headlines
throughout the world
education is the key
for people that only
see what makes news
which makes headline
and more media hype.
If people could view
these dogs the way
they really are one
might agree its not the breed at fault.
Like so many breeds not all are perfect there will be always
those that have gone
bad.Poor breeding habits contribute to the breeds miss under standing. One
rotten apple can cause everyother to look bad. This breed is
loyal, affectionate beyoond extreme.Yet any breed fallen into the wrong
hands and trained to attack is the same as owning firearms. If the trigger
is not pulled or used for illegal purposes it cannot do harm,This is the
case with these dogs put in capable hands these dogs have a wonderfu
ll reputation as all others. If people could read the history behind the
breed one would come to understand just how complexed this breed is in
reality. One thing for sure when one indivedual of this breed makes news it
becomes front page or on the news of the day.And its not just the Pit Bull
that has taken the brunt of those that only read the headline and know
nothing about the breed in general.People need to understand that as in
human beings that all our not perfect and neither is the canine world. But

As an owner of several dogs of "dangerous" breeds, I know it is
the owner's handling that creates a dangerous situation. These loyal

Bully breeds are one (if the the #1) loyal breed of dog you could ever own.
People only know what they see on the news, so isn't it time to really
research the breed and tell people the real truth about the way the breed
is when raised properly. On atts.org pit bulls have outranked a number of
"safer" breeds. |

I have't met or petted a pit bull that was aggresive. Just tonight I
saw an elderly couple walking their pit bull (staffordshire bull terrier)
down the street. I'm all for more public education related to
responsible dog ownership and dog breeds to help people make wise choices.
I agree with the statement that a dog is like a gun. In the hands of the
wrong individual it can be lethal. When children ask me if my German
shepherd bites, I say, "Yes, any dog will bite under the right
conditions." I'm all for punishing the owner, not the dog. ANYONE
who makes a dog mean or uses it for attack other than legitimate police
work ought to be severely prosecuted. I am passionate about using animals
as an expression of one's toughness or some sick form of violent
entertainment. People need to understand the breed of dog and its
characteristics to select the best dog for companionship, and so I fully
support this petition for more public education. |

banning pitbulls isn't the answer - education for people to eradicate
fear and instil respect, is. all dogs can be trained to be obedient and non
aggressive. Banning is just enforcing cruelty and encouraging the
flourishing of underground dogfights. |

I own 4 pitbulls, 3 of which stay in my house and they are the best dogs I
have ever had. They are loyal, smart, damn good dogs and do not deserve
the negetive attention that they receive every day. TLJones said it all
when it was stated that "bad dogs usually mean bad parents" Amen.
They are so beautiful and anyone who has ever had anything at all to do
with pits know they are no different than any other dog. People are so
ignorant to these wonderful animals. They ARE the most loving dogs you
will ever have. I agree banning them is NOT the answer, proper training for
the dogs as well as the parents is the way I have done it. I have trained
several with a loving, caring, tender hand and they have all turned out to
be wonderful children for their parents. Nor are they taught to abuse small
children, I train my pits with kids around, if the family has children, so
that there is NO problem. Once again proper training for the family as well
as the pit. All I have to say is leave them alone or find a good trainer,
cause I am NOT about to give up my pit for anyone. I am sure all of you
agree that removing your animal would be like having your child removed.
It would devastate me and my 2 kids. |

I have been fortunate enough to participate on several short news segments
here in Atlanta (CNN Headline news, 11 Alive News, and others) about the
positive side of the Pit Bulls. Unfortunately these very short segments
were aired immediately following news and footage about a "Pit Bull
Attack". Although it is great to be able to show the real side of the
breed, it is very hard to compete against reports of a “Pit attack” and
images of a Pit Bull covered in human blood.
I would love to see the media do an in-depth report about the
"real" American Pit Bull Terrier. This program or segment should
be broadcasted as positive propaganda, not just a segment following a
negative strike against the breed. With as much national and actually
worldwide attention that the breed has been getting in the media, I feel
that it is the media’s responsibility to thoroughly cover this topic with a
full and in-depth report or segment. |

"Human Aggressive" dogs come in all breeds. They are this way
because of neglect by their irresponsible owner. It is not the dogs fault
but is due to the mistreatment and neglect by the owner of the dog. It
doesn't matter what breed of dog it is. Any dog will be aggressive if
trained that way or neglected and abused. I have met many pit bull
terriers and all have been very sweet. I have even met one that was had
been used in fights. Even this one was VERY human friendly. A properly
bred and well cared for dog will be very human friendly. Punish the deed
not the breed. |
