Pterosaur Launch
Stats RSS Download
We have built a life sized model of Pteranodon, the last of the pterosaurs. This model is built to glide, as the actual animal would have done. The model has a wingspan of 6 metres and weighs less than 17 kilograms, with a calculated centre of gravity making it ideal for flight. As this model has the exact same proportions as the actual animal would have had, this display would not only be good for promoting the museum, but also help us to understand the flight of this animal. The South Australian Museum is enthusiastic about our project, allowing us to create it inside the gallery of the museum during palaeontology week and display it on the east tower in public view. It is this tower that we intend to launch our model from. Occupational Health and Safety are very conscious of our project, and still debating the advisability of it. Public support will be taken into consideration, so our goal is to reach 5,000 signatures to show that our project is considered worthwhile by community.
