Islam was once a great civilization - it has nothing to fear from reform and the freedom to choose one's faith. All peoples of good will must raise our voices to condemn tyranny and murder in the name of religion. Especially I call on the US to have this man freed.
Rahman should be freed and allowed to enter the U.S.(or any country he chooses) as a legal immigrant. If he is not exonerated, the U.S. should withdraw all aid and personnel from Afghanistan.
I support this petition.
Christians believe in the God of Abraham for crying out loud.
It's not like the guy converted to secularism or polytheism or Satanism. He didn't convert to Hitler's religion.
I support this petition. It's time for Afghanistan to show the world that democracy and Islam can co-exist. If this is not possible, and Afghanistan chooses Islam, as it is doing in the case of Abdul Rahman, then the helping presence of UN forces there must be re-examined.
I support this petition. How would the Muslim World react if the defendant was a convert to Islam in a Christian Nation where the punishment for not repenting his conversion would be death?
It is unbelivable how the recent afghan President Kharsai plays Mr. Niceguy in the West asks for supporting dollars and and on the other hand remains silent
I support this petition. This trial is outrageous. The threats against the life of this man are even more outrageous. How can it be a crime for a man to follow his own conscience??? We must all be free to choose our own religion and to change religion when we choose. What does it mean to put to death a muslim who has converted to another faith? It means that all muslims are slaves who can only choose one way, to be forever a muslim or else be killed by the state. It is not freedom and not a choice to freely choose to be a slave without possibility of ever choosing another way. Give freedom to this man to change his religion and all muslims become free people who choose to be muslims because they want to be muslims not because they are afraid to die.
The most important right is the right to the free exercise of conscience. Those who are forbidden to exercise this right are nothing but slaves without real choice.
Do not be slave masters. Free all Afghanis to be muslims in true freedom. Do not make this man a slave. Do not force this man to choose between death and true freedom.
We are all watching you and we will not want relations with your country if you execute Mr Rahman.
Dear Honored Sir, I support this petition as much as I supported the liberation of your country from extremist murderers. Please do the honorable and noble thing by allowing this man freedom to his religious beliefs and not allowing him to be killed for praticing the liberty we worked so hard to provide to both of you.
Sincere Regards
I support this petition. You have the chance to bring blessing upon your nation by letting Mr Rahman freely turn to Jesus. You must not hinder him in any way since you are setting yourself up against his God who rules the nations, including yours. You must change now.
I support this petition. As the Bible says, "He who knows the good to do, and does it not, to him it becomes sin. Do the right thing, and release this man.
I support this petition. Let people worship the God they want, give them their freedom, that is what we born with FREEDOM, do not take it away from man
I supported President Bush in his decision to go to war in Afghanistan. I have many friends who have fought there or will be going there soon. I am outraged that we would "liberate" (can you even call it that if this is how their codified law works?!?) a country and set up a new democratically elected government that allows people to be put ot death for not being Muslims.
President Bush and all members of Congress this is an outrage! These kinds of laws are no different than those under the Taliban. All possible effort in public and behind the scenes must be put forth to protect this innocent man's life! Otherwise the whole war there is in vain and many good men have died not for freedom but for transferring the reins of power from one hostile, anti-USA, anti freedom government to just a "friendly", "pro-USA", anti freedom government. This is unacceptable. Period.
I am impatiently awaiting a swift and overwhelming response.
PS. Kick the ex-Taliban ambassador/spokesman out of Yale and the USA and offer Mr. Rahman a student visa to attend any US university. I am sure that enough good people in the USA would be willing to donate money to provide him with a scholarship.
I support this petition. Americans have and are continuing to fight for freedom of all the people of Afghanistan, including freedom of religion--not freedom for some and death and destruction for others.
The US government MUST exert whatever pressure necessary to stop this atrocity. What good is a "War on Terror" if our allies choose to perpetrate such horrors?
I support this petition.
Once again Islam moves against "others" in a manner that may once and for all time prove Islam to be nothing more than a rancid cult; I feel sorrow for those who have been consumed by their bigotry.
I'm often told Islam is a religion of tolerance. I was suspicious. Now I have evidence that I was deliberately misinformed. The Coalition has unknowingly reinstalled the Taliban. In the name of Christ I ask for Rahman's freedom and I pray for his soul.
