In Newfoundland, we have no access to your theatres. Why? Because we are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. There is equipment that is available to rectify this situation and people willing to assist in this endeavour. We know that it is a great success in the United States, and in other parts of Canada. Why do you ignore the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Newfoundland?

We want to go to the theatre with our families and our friends. We are a growing population as the general population ages.

Why must you deny access as you study the situation?

We ask that you consider some form of 'Rear View Captioning' in a theatre in St. John's.

Having a number of relatives who are hearing impaired, some of them whom I have lived with, I understand the difficulty in watching a movie or TV when there is no captions. They should be able to go to a movie and enjoy it, I think this would be a great idea, and all would benefit.

Everyone should be able to go to the movies and enjoy it with their friends, if they are deaf or anything. It should be fair for everyone and thats what we should stand up for!

The hard of hearing have every right to be able to watch a movie as the rest of us. The fact is that Empire theatres refuses to accommodate them. They have even been offered to receive the technology at a reduced cost or free by various fund raising from the Canadian Hard of Hearing Association. I hope this petition makes them realize they're alienating some of their audience for no better reason then stubborness and in this day and age people shouldn't be getting discriminated against like this anymore.

we all have fun times going to movies and these people that cant hear deserve to have fun times at movies...Just because they cant hear dosent mean they cant read!

Well it doesn'nt effect me in anyway becuase i havn't got any hearing problems but i see where people are coming from here, companys should make things suitable for people with all kinds of disabilities some people with a disability allready feel that their different from other people and they shouldn't be made to feel like that even more becuase they cant do something that say their frend with no disability can do with no problem at all.

Why shouldn't people who are hard of hearing be able to watch a movie like the rest of us? I myself have a habit of using captioning when sitting at home anyway. Are we as a society that self-absorbed that we cannot consider other people's rights and feelings? If we have the means to accomadate such individuals, then certainly we should. That would also cause more movie tickets to be sold, more profit for the company and people who are hard of hearing can go out and enjoy themselves.

everyone deserves a chance at a 'normal' life. There should be no singaling out of individuals just because they may not beable to hear. I'm signing for Renee...I only spend one week with her, But I will never forget her. You inspire me!

everything else is changing to fit everyone else's special needs. Why not accommodate this special need?
