This petition is only to be signed by University of Georgia students, faculty and staff.

"We, the students, faculty and staff of the University of Georgia, care passionately about the environment, our natural resources, and the future generations of UGA students. We believe that recycling is an integral part of protecting the environment, conserving resources and achieving a better future. Therefore, we ask the administration to take the initiative in providing better opportunities for students to participate in recycling on campus by creating an integrated, campus-wide recycling program that includes: 1) a substantial increase in the number of recycling bins for paper and containers on campus, 2) an organized system for transporting recyclable materials to the appropriate facilities, 3) clear and informative signage, and 4) an education campaign to promote awareness and participation in recycling among students, faculty and staff."

This petition will be presented to the University Council, including president Michael Adams, in December. It is sponsored and written by the UGA chapter or Students for Environmental Awareness. It has received full support from SGA and many University-related organizations. It will include a comprehensive report detailing and comparing our peer institutions' recycling programs as well as proposing student-generated recommendations for improving our own. The initial goal of 1,000 student signatures has already been reached with hard-copy signatures, but since the purpose of this petition is to show the administration that this student-initiated issue is one which they cannot ignore, we need all we can get.
