The most precious right we have is the vote. When people are disenfranchised, it is up to all of us to protest. They did it in 2000, and when the Black Caucus asked for just one senator to object, no one came forward. I will make sure the senators from my state know what I think about this issue, and make my voice heard.
What is most important, winning or the Democracy that you Republicans profess to hold so dear??? What can be more sacred to democracy than the integrity of the vote?? Search your souls if they haven't been outsourced by your clueless leader!!
The Presidential Election of 2000, most especially in Florida, was a shocking display in vote supression and manipulation. I believe that any American who bore witness to those events with an open mind were shaken their foundation at how the will of the people, and their right to be heard at the ballot box, was so carelessly dismissed.
Now, four years later, all of the same questions and doubts have again appeared.
We, as Americans, have so very much to be proud of. But it saddens me to think that when it comes to the most basic tenet of this nation, that all men and women have the right to vote, and to know that their vote has been counted, the current state of democracy is the best we can do.
I am not an American, but rather concerned what is going on in the country of "freedom and democracy". That´s more appropriate for a banana republic and not for the leading nation of the western world. I do not understand the problem with recounting.
It is very hypocritical that there was a tremendous outrage heard from the media, current administration, and others in the U.S. about the election fraud in the Ukraine; and there is near silence in the U.S. media about the irregularities and fraud in the 2004 election (especially in Ohio and Florida). This is not a good example of democracy for the world, especially from a country with an administration that espoused democracy as the benefit of the Iraq War. It is my understanding that the U.S. government is a "government of the people, by the people, and for the people." If that is still true, then politicians (at the local, state and national levels) need to remember that your job is to represent what is in the best interest of "the people" and not the corporations, ideologies, power, and money. Elections provide a forum for "the people" to have their say. Since there is a preponderance of evidence that suggests that the 2004 election results for Ohio and Florida are tainted, then the U.S. needs to exercise the courage demonstrated in the Ukraine and take the necessary steps to fix the problem now before the counting of the Electoral College votes is completed.
The Jan 6th electoral vote count is NOT about George W. Bush, it is NOT about John F. Kerry it is about in a ‘nation of laws’ are you going to endorse several and repeated acts of FEDERAL ELECTION FRAUD in many states? Are you going to show the world your HYPOCRISY OF DEMOCRACY where election fraud, voter suppression, voter intimidation, intentional neglect, criminal negligence, or intentional, criminal voter suppression for the purpose of tilting a federal election is acceptable in the United States of America, but ‘will not be tolerated in the UKRAINE’ says Colin Powell, in a recent speech to the world? Your actions on Jan 6th will be heard around the world. Are you asking for another revolution or, a nationwide strike? Your boss ‘we the people,’ are expecting you to do the right thing for America. Millions of citizens see the facts, while a few congresspersons pretend not to. I would be surprised if the republican senator that worked several months to get George Bush ‘legitimately’ elected will step up to the plate and protest the bogus electoral vote count after asking himself, is an illegal society what I spent time in war to defend and should I by approving the electoral fraud is lawlessness the example I want to set for generations of citizens FOLLOW?
there should be a re-vote in florida and ohio because there was no legal process in the elections of 2004. it has been shown that the machines were rigged for bush, it's not right.
If there is any question at all about the results and method of the vote it should be recounted. This is still a Democracy, contrary to those who think they can ride rough shod over the rest of us
I as a citizen that demands the government act in accordance with the US Constitution, insist on realrecounts and revotes in the ststea of OHIO and FLorida. I will vote Congrss members out of office who do not respect our Consititution and right to vote and also boycott corporations that do not respect it. I will vote with my wallet as well.
In the spirit if Democracy, these alligations must be investigated and the truth be final, not possible. Help the American people get to the truth about the 2004 election.
The grounds for the objections are clear;the irregularities in the Ohio vote and vote count are widespread and blatant. If the Ohio election were held in the Ukraine, it would not have been certified by the international community.
In Ohio, the golf between exit polls and counted votes is vast and glaring. Blatant discrimination in the distribution of voting machines ensured long lines in inner-city and working-class precincts that favored John Kerry, while the suburban districts that favored President Bush had no similar problems.
If america is to be a champion of democracy abroad, it must clean up its elections at home. If it is to complain of fraudulent and dishonest election practices abroad, it cannot condone them at home. but more important, if our own elections are to be legitimate, then they must be honest, open, with high national standards.
The time has come to stand up for clean elections, and to let it be known that massive irregularities will not go unchallenged.
The worst election scandal in history is being covered up by the Republican party. It will come out some time- the more time it takes for the truth to surface, the more is will permanently cripple the Republican party. Save yourself! Demand a recount.
