St. Leonard Sewer and Water Petition
Published May 28, 2010
We, the undersigned citizens of Calvert County, request that the County Commissioners bring public sewer and expanded public water to St. Leonard Town Center. St. Leonard is a minor Town Center as is designated in the Calvert County Comprehensive Water and Sewerage Plan. We believe public sewer system and expanded water infastructure is needed to foster: (1) a business base that can meet the needs of the surrounding communities, (2) a compact arrangement of architecturally compatible buildings, and (3) a variety of pedestrian-friendly uses. We believe current and proposed town zoning ordinances address the concern that St. Leonard NOT be developed into another Prince Frederick, Lusby, or Waldorf with a series of strip shopping centers along the main road or \"big box\" stores. We believe St. Leonard can be like other towns in the Chesapeake Bay region such as St. Michaels, Oxford, and Chestertown, which have public water and sewer, and have been noted for their enduring scale, LIVABILITY, and charm.
