Pro-imperial, post-9/11 films such as these provide a political undertone to create an image of the Eastern "other". By stereotyping and dehumanizing an entire group of people from a Eurocentric and false historic point of view, current political and military actions become justified and accepted. Well I agree this movie is butcher of history plain and simple. Sparta wasn't a democracy first off. Second the Persians never conquered Black Africa Egypt included (Eyptians were black I've been to the valley of the kings in luxor) Secondly, the persians didn't use Nubian coins. this movie is completely insulting to the Ancient Persian Empire... once again the white race is dominating and what better time to depict the Persians as savage immortal beasts than to release this movie when there is a highly debated war against Iran! From what it looks like in the trailer this movie is meant to portray the West as the civilized muscular uber-warriors and the East as uncivilized black-skinned/arab uniformed savage MONSTERS.. Yea, it's a comic book fantasy, but come on how come only one side is portrayed as evil barbaric beasts? I mean I know Persians know better, but nevertheless, it's a completly false portrayal and demeaning to our race especially for all the ignorant viewers watching this movie mindlessly not being able to tell the discrepencies. King Xerxes is shown as some bald, pierced, punk dude. The Immortals were masked savage creatures with turbans of some sort and the messenger was again some dark african dude. Even though I am 1/2 Persian, I do not support the banning/censorship of ANY film, no matter how inaccurate it is. Instead, we should use this movie as a chance to educate people about the TRUTH about Persian culture and history. We should do what people did after "Borat" came out and write articles peacefully (as in non-militantly) pointing out how the movie differs from the truth.
