Armin, first of all, the movie 300 is based upon the Greek perspective of the situation, not the Persian one, secondly, Persian history isn't exactly what we can call accurate, in the Middle East, and other Muslim countries and such, kids are taught not the truth, by fabrications of the truth, making Persians always seem to be "good" in some fasion. Truth is, Persians have been known for their facist ideas, and thoughts of world domination. They have conquered mercilessly, and the only reason that they don't do so today is because they are on a tight leash with the American Government. Freedom to speak out, and make a such a controversial and movie, and a movie about what lengths a man will do to ensure freedom and safety to his fellow men. The choices a leader must make for the good of all, and the personal sacrifices that must be made. The Persians, currently, unlike every else, are looking past the good ideas in this movie, and instead of seeing it has inspirational, they look for a way to downsize what is a great movie. Every movie has flaws, and we all know that, this movie, as the previous poster said is Historical Fiction, obviously there are going to be innaccuracies. Firs of all it was called the Persian wars not Peloponnesian wars.
Second there were 9000 Greeks Led by the 300 Spartans V.S 18 000 Persian expeditionary force.
In the battle of Thermopylae the Greeks did not fight face to face with the Persians, they were heavily fortified on tope of a mountain. They had enough food and water to last them 3 month. On the other hand the Persians were worn out tired and existed as they had to travel across deserts, mountains and seas to gat to Greece. In the battle the Persians succeeded in climbing the mountain breaching the fortifications and beat the Greeks in 3 days time.
This was a military brilliance on part of the Persians unlike what the media portrays.
The Persian Wars spans over 100 years of conflict, as the Persians conquered Athens it self.
But eventually the Greeks engaged in a gorilla warfare which would eventually lead to the withdrawal of the Persians.
Also note that the Persian army was the best trained and organized military force of the ancient world unlike what hey are depicted as in movies such as Alexander and the 300.
Oh and by the way, when you read history specially Greek history its is important to know that the victors always rewrite history and it is important to separate the myth from Fact.

I think the reason why so many people are outraged by this movie is because of the fact that persians were demonised in this movie. I mean there was a guy with a "goat head" playing the float, there was big blob of a guy with swords as hands and when one of the immortals took off his mask he was portrayed as an ork. I think I am an open-minded guy and I knew the movie was based on the Frank Miller comic before I saw the movie. Also I anticipated that there would be some exaggeration since this is afterall a movie and needs to be entertaining. I knew about the history behind the battle of Thermopylae from before and although there was alot of inaccuracies (both from the persian AND the greek side of view), I was not expecting to see persians being demonised on screen. I think this is why alot of people have some strong reactions to this movie and view it as being racist.

WHEN PEOPLE WHO ARE TOO IGNORANT TO KNOW WHAT THE PERSIAN EMPIRE CONSISTED OF SEE THIS MOVIE, THEY AUTOMATICALLY ASSOCIATE PERSIANS WITH WHAT THEY SEE IN THIS MOVIE, THUS GIVING US A BAD NAME. THATS WHY THIS MOVIE SUCKS FOR US, SO UNDERSTAND WHY WE ARE UPSET.
The first movie I have ever seen to portray a civilisation as subhuman. If something like this was made by the nazis in the 1940's we would have called it propoganda. This is spreading fear with subliminal messages. "Iran almost ended the world then just like they are threatening to end the world now"

We know "it's just a movie". But it ain't the first time either. Remember "Alexander" with Colin Farrel? The problem is our history is being tied in with more current events.

As for the movie, it was good, but riddled with a ton of false facts on both sides. Funny no one bitches and moans about the untrue things of the Spartans... Bet half you dumbasses don't even know it was called the Peloponnesian war...
If you're Iranian and you're offended by some stupid blockbuster movie made to simply make money... well thats pretty sad thats all there is to say about that. If it teaches you're civilization about your supposed "past", thats pretty sad as well and we know where your intellegence lies because you can't pickup a damn book and read about what really happened.
Not everyone thinks thats how it was... American's who watch movies already know that most historical movies like this are full of shit and are edited to make it more interesting or grotesque.
I understand it is fictional, but i have to agree there is a racist dipiction of Persians and although i enjoy Frank Millers work, am saddened by this racist, distasteful, inappropriate dipiction. The timing of this movie is awful.

As an Iranian this movie has offended not only me, but Iranians as a whole. I'm a 15 year old high shcool student, most kids in my school have a mind set that persians looked this way. The timing of the movie could not have been worse, time of crisis and tension between U.S and Iran. I beg you Iranians, whether your Muslim, Jewish, Christian, anything. Unite. We are a great race, a powerful wealthy race with alot of history. We arent arabs, were persian. We arent terrorists.
We are the most diverse race in the middle east. This movie has sent a message to not only to Americans but to the people of the world. I know some Iranians my age who are ashamed of telling other people there ethnicity. Even adults. Come on now, be proud of where you come from, stop these tensions. I know I have family in Iran, and think about your people. Its ouvious the government isnt going to help anything in Iran. Its the people, them, us, and anyone who wants to help our cause. As a 15 year old Iranian, I am proud to say where I come from, you should too, spread this word, and make every damn person know your Iranian, and by the way, make sure they see your face, so theyll know we dont look like ogors and monsters.
