As many of you have heard Sonics owner Howard Schultz has sold the Seattle Sonics, and the WNBA's Seattle Storm to Oklahoma City Businessman Clay Bennett for 350 million dollars. Now the Sonics seem to be safe for now since their lease along with the storm runs till 2010. The Sonics are important to Seattle in my opinion for many reasons. They have given many people jobs during the season who otherwise would may very not have jobs, the team has helped the economy Seattle more than many businesses can say despite the amount of money lost by former owner Howard Schultz. Also Seattle has been a great franchise, though I do not live in Seattle I have always respected, and admired some of their many legendary players such as Gary Payton, Shawn Kemp, Tom Chambers, Jack Sikma, Dale Ellis, as well as current players such as Ray Allen, and Rashard Lewis. Seattle has had some great moments from winning the 1979 NBA Championship, posting the league's best record in 1994, and winning the Western Conference Championship on two other occasions. They have always supported the Sonics from what I have seen, and I have had many friends from Seattle who are great fans, and would be very saddened if Seattle loses the Sonics. I understand Oklahoma City is a great city, and they clearly do deserve a franchise especially the way they carried the Hornets during this past season. I am not here or am starting this petition in anyway to block the Sonics from being sold to Mr.Bennent, but rather unite a great city to keep one of the great franchise's in the league to stay a little longer. |

3 Jul 2008 - 22:47 Daniel Folsom : I can't believe the Sonics are leaving; Seattle is where the Sonics belong, they're a historic team, and moving them to Oklahoma City (of all places) is a disservice to the city of Seattle, the NBA's history and true basketball fans. |

29 Feb 2008 - 13:20 Jeff Hjelm : I'm only a casual NBA fan at this point with no particular allegiance to Seattle but I respect their fan base and what the franchise has done for the league and what it means to the city. This has to be stopped. BTW, I think OKC does deserve a team but NOT this way. |

11 Jan 2007 - 16:51 Jesse Allen : Because it's the Seattle Supersonics. Why change after 40 years. There is no way that Oklahoma City could support the team the way Seattle has. It's history. It should not be changed. |

10 Aug 2006 - 7:29 Dominic Schoenheit : because seattle is such a great sports city with a great history with the sonics. They don't belong anywhere else besides seattle. I, as a blazer fan, also know what it feels like to worry about getting screwed over by your owners. |

27 Jul 2006 - 21:06 CPH : |
27 Jul 2006 - 14:02 Bryan Jacobsen : because the Sonics are Seattle. It is unfair to the fans of this team that they will probably be ripped from the womb and moved to OKC because the city of Seattle screwed the franchise with poor revenue sharing and non-support of the team in other financual respects. I don't blame the recent ownership group (Shultz et al) for selling the team. However I do blame them for selling to a group that is obviously primed on moving them. |
27 Jul 2006 - 5:22 Joe : Leave the Sonics were they belong in SEATTLE!!! Heres to another 40 years! |
27 Jul 2006 - 4:42 Nick : Why would we spend money to turn Key Arena into a new venue with no tenant and no viability when we could just use that money to keep the team and revenue? |
27 Jul 2006 - 4:05 Wojtek : The love for the Seattle SuperSonics is a worldwide passion and we won't let anyone move our club! GO SEATTLE SONICS!!! |
26 Jul 2006 - 12:31 Jennifer W. : the Sonics belong in SEATTLE. Always have, always will. 40 years with a new out of state owner doesn't change that. I've been a diehard Sonics fan over the past 14 years and I'm not letting my team go without a fight. |
26 Jul 2006 - 11:36 nick s : |
26 Jul 2006 - 2:25 Rhondda Nunes : Nothing against Oklahoma City; but really, does that compare to the market that is Seattle?keep the Sonics in Seattle! |
