I should not have to learn spanish to live in Texas. Common sense dictates that if I move to another country because I feel it will help both myself and my family, then I should learn that countries language. It makes NO sense at all to expect them to speak mine, especially if I am trying to gain citizenship. If I moved to China tommorow because I wanted a better life, would it be realistic to think that the chinese people would speak enlish for me?

I support this petition with all my heart. Why should Hispanics (some of them, anyway) get a free ride when everyone else had to assimilate. My ancestors had to learn English, so why not the Hispanics?

I support this greatly due to being a immigrant from Germany. however to the people who made all those racist comments. you people should just not even post here. if you dont like it say nothing about it or avoid it but then again people thrive on being racist. I do not support this yes you should learn it but it should not be manitory just as americans should not have to learn spanish in order to live in a place that they grew up speaking english this isnt the olden days come on now if you want to live in this world you need to realize and upgrade your self with the culture you cant be old fashion in these days i am gettin ready to have a baby to a mexican an i am going to teach him to speak english and spanish as my choice it shouldnt be manitory. I support this petition. My family came from mexico and we all worked hard to learn the english language. I will never forget my background and culture but i do agree if mexicanos decide to move to america we must learn english for respect of the country giving us these opportunities!!

Spansih people are completely ridiculous. At my highschool only about 15 percent of the students are spanish and they act like they own the school. They always have too stop right in front of you in the hallways like theyre sooo much more important and talk about their 20 year old honda civics, and fresh kicks. They have no morals, and act like theyre from the most inner city place ever. I can\'t bear to hear them speak spanish like its no problem at all if your in America why wouldnt you speak English like all my ancestors learned to do. I don\'t have a problem with any other racial minority but these people are just plain ignorant.

I support this, but I think making a petition like this will make people not take this site seriously. There is no point in this, because this would be considered discrimination if a law was made against it. But I support that they should learn the language, just disagree with the way you're using this website.

I FULLY SUPPORT THIS!!! I am of an Italian heritage. When my grandmother came over she did not know much english, but she worked hard at for years and except when teaching Italian to others she speaks english in front of people out of respect for Americans, because she would expect that if we went there that we should be able to communicate in Italian. I think this should also apply in schools, this is not so much that they are stupid or don't know the language, it is that they are ignorant. They are somehow covered by a language discrimination law so that you can not even ask them to please speak English even if you know that they are quite fluent in it or you will receive repercussions. However, it is legal in a workplace environment to set a rule that english must be spoken in the workplace to keep harmony. We need to step down on some of these laws and stop giving every person that walks over the borders protection. We don't even protect our own people anymore.

There were Latinos there that were bilingual (Spanish/English) but still chose to speak Spanish anyway even though they knew I don&amp;amp;amp;#039;t speak Spanish.
