Stop myspace at city library

Why are teens accessing myspace through city libraries? Why isn't this site banned from city property particularly because of the high sexual content and the innappropriate pictures posted by underage users? When the city was contacted about teens on myspace at city library the director did nothing but agree with this statement:

How large a problem are child predators on social networking sites? (from forbes magazine)

That issue has been greatly overblown. No doubt there are bad guys lurking online, just like they are lurking on offline venues. The question is, Is it some kind of national epidemic that will be effectively addressed with age verification mandates? I do not think that is the case. There is a very small number of youngsters that are likely to be attacked by these people. These are at-risk youth and they go online and end up stumbling into dangerous situations. That doesn't mean that all kids are prone to stumble into those situations. We have to be realistic about the scope of the problem.

This means the City of Austin is making things easier for predatos online. Please sign and help stop teens from accessing this site on City of Austin property that we citizens pay for.
