I've lived in paradise hills area of san diego for 24 years. Fishing at Sweetwater Resevoir legally has always been a dream for anglers in paradise hills, spring valley and throughout the South Bay of San Diego. So finally after many years of speculation and hearsay the lake opened. I was there on opening day to see shoulder to shoulder fishing all the way to the buoy line and still there is a decent crowd every week.I am asking that ammendments to the function of the lake be made. The problem is that fishing access is limited to the weaker parts of the lake for fishing. You are not allowed to put a boat on the lake but I have a couple of suggestions that may work. For example instead of allowing gas dispensing high powered boats why not allow electric/trolling motors only along with float tubes like they do at even smaller lakes in the county such as lake dixon in escondido. The other side of the lake is the part that is most attractive for anglers. More structure, dropoffs, weeds etc. This section is closed to fishing and the only reason that I have ever received is that there are endangered species of plants and animals over there? These areas have constantly been ran through by poachers over the years and allowing anglers to fish there legally would appeal to anglers across southern california that are salivating for the chance to fish the whole lake. Also why is the lake limited to sat, sun, monday? With iron Rangers in place the lake could easily be open every day for the enjoyment of all. It could be the Lake Murray for the ever growing South Bay. I also ask what would be sufficient for you to consider these changes? I am starting a petition this weekend at the lake in hopes that you will see how many people really want these changes to be made.
