This is a huge problem thats need to be taken care. Its is only promoting teens to make wreckless decisions and not wise ones. But i guess it just shows what the market is going to...to the pits.
Clothing stores have a responsibility to establish positive, not negative, social norms. Selling such t-shirts to youth is irrespective of their negative messages.
I personally have stopped shopping at Hollister because of this and I am so happy to see teens take this stand!! I'll spread the word to other parts of the country.
Yes I have seen these sayings on "T-Shirts" and I really do not understand why the responsible person for that child would allow that child to exhibit him/herself in such a degrading manner.
I can only pray that one day all retailers will understand how they are killing the lives of our youth. May God bless everyone with enough courage to take a stand.
It is disturbing that the Hollister company has a buyer or person somewhere who approved the purchase of t-shirts delivering messages that exploit our youth.
More distressing, however, is that when asked to re-think this youth-targeted store merchandise, you still didn't understand the negative reinforcement and influence your choice to keep the stock in the store has on youth. Bad decision making skills, I presume. Is it that hard to make an honest buck anymore without targeting young impressionable kids with provocative adult messages? It's time to go back to the drawing board and sketch a new responsible leader merchandise plan!
Please realize that Hollister's is being irresponsible by selling t-shirts with inappropriate messages/images for teenagers. I ask that you be a responsible corporate citizen. You are not being responsible to your stockholders or the community when you promote negative messages.
Please stop bombarding our children with these messages. They have PLENTY of pressure from their own internal and peer pressures without having it blatantly put in front of them. Please have more respect for these young people. Thjank you for your kind consideration.
Thank you, Youth for standing up for moral values! And taking this initiative! We completely support you--but will not suport stores that sell such tees.
And we wonder what is wrong with kids today. A question to the store owners-Do you want your sons and daughters involved in the things that these shirts encourage or are a few bucks more important to you ?
The tide is changing. More young adults are making better choices. Why doesn't the media start showing the positive choices they are making? Represent what is right.
Hollister needs to stand up and be a responsible member of our "community" in providing stylish, respectable and positive images/sayings on their clothing. Please take this responsibility seriously and make changes to benefit society.
Very few teenagers actually drink and have sex but many of them wear these demoralizing shirts because they are in style. More stores should sell t-shirts that inspire youth instead of tearing down their morals.
Have some self respect. Think about what message you are sending to new people you meet when you are wearing one of these T-shirts; it's not a good one.
Society has become too disrespectful. T-shirts that promote more disrespect is wrong. Employers complain they can not find good employees these days. What do employers expect when the sell items that encourage people/teens to be disrespectful. Keep selling out morality for an increase in corporate profits and see what you get. Here is proof that you reap what you sow.
It is time that these companies listen.
So many people think ALL young people are doing drugs and are sexually active.
Listen to them they are much smarter than most people think, sit down and build a relationship with these GREAT youth it'll be a treat for both, and they'll receive value from you in the process.
To those of you that are fighting this for your future dignity. I'll pray that all your time and efforts will be shared throughout our great country.
God Bless
It's great to see our youth taking a stand for what they believe in. Our country needs to know what our kids have to say, and this is an excellent cause to spread the word for!
As a guidance counselor it infuriates me that sex and underage drinking is portrayed as acceptable recreational activities to students. Teen pregnancy, death, and alcholism is not a joke. Congrats to the students for taking a stand against businesses who glorify and promote these unhealthy behaviors.
I am hoping this will spread across America. It feels intimidating doing something such as this, going against the grain and not being supported by it. But this just proves how supportive people are. Thanks to everyone who is signing this, you are helping make a HUGE difference. Mabye stores will FINALLY recognize that teens are not alcoholic sex-indulging drug addicts.
