while I do not know this person, I know I would be devastated if someone stole my male champion and neutered him. I suspect this may have been done to allow her to have him out of her competitive field.
This is one more "nail" in the coffin of AKE's responsible representation of the sport of dogs. If this is not contrary to everything the AKC is supposed to stand for, I don't know what is. She should be suspended for LIFE and barred from attendance at any AKC events!
Over the years AKC appeas to be much more interested in collecting fees to register dogs, )even puppy mill puppies) as long as your have the cash to send. To allow a person, such as Clover Hedlund to stead and them alter an animal surgically and continue to allow her to be a member of AKC and show her dogs is a ruling that diminishes all of your loyal members who play be the rules. I would like to ask the head of AKC how he/she would like her prized and loven stud animal to be stoled and neutered. I'll bet heards would roll then.
As AKC continues to become "big business" and no longer cares for the people that pay the bills, I am closer to looking elsewhere. How AKC cannot suspend Hedlund for LIFE is beyond me. If they can't do the right thing, then maybe they should think of potential $$$ they have lost when this dog was STOLEN and neutered! What a sad day when AKC condones this by not doing anything about it!!!!
When the AKC made the decision not to suspend Clover Hedlund, the AKC sent the message that they condone such behavior as Hedlund's. A behavior that kept a dog away from the owner and surgically altered the animal without the owners knowledge not to mention the stress of such sadness when someone encounters such a loss. Who can imagine the way it feels for the animal or the human to be ripped away from the environment that they know. I can't imagine any organization (human or canine) allowing such thieves to maintain a membership.
Shame on the individuals of the AKC who made such a decision against all animals and all decdent, loving human beings.
This woman should be suspended for life. How dare she think she can do this to another person's dog and be respected by anybody in the show circles.
She was found guilty of dog theft! Would you also let her work around children if she was found guilty of kidnapping? By not revoking her privileges, AKC is showing that what she did is acceptable to them and therefore allowing her access to do it again. Hope its not my dog next time!
I'm surprised that someone can be suspended for their dog urinating in a hotel room, but won't be suspended for theft and castration of a dog. I'm sorry; I just don't understand. The AKC needs to re-evaluate their position and protect exhibitors, breeders, and owners from this happening again. Competition is becoming tougher, and if this wasn't stopped, I hate to see what can happen in the future.
I used to think the AKC stood for honesty and good sportsmanship. I do not consider stealing and neutering someone elses dog to be the kind of people I want to associate with.
I am very disappointed in the AKC. Why would you not suspend Ms Hedlund's privledges?
She has been convicted and sentenced for stealing and neutering a purebreed dog. Is not the AKC supposed to be looking out for the welfare of all purebred dogs. This woman has no business showing dogs, breeding dogs, or even being around a show site.
Must we keep our dogs under lock and key to protect them from Ms Hedlund. Please reconsider

This is appalling! Wonder whose dog she will steal and neuter next? She is not prevented from attending dog shows, and being around show dogs, so wonder which dog will be next? AKC really dropped the ball on this one!
This is very sad that the AKC does not suspend a person for stealing a dog and neutering it. The courts will put them in jail but AKC does nothing. Thta is so very sad.
I cannot believe the AKC's stance on this! Just removing "Clipper" from his familiar surroundings/handlers is a form of cruelty, not to mention the message it sends to other persons of questionable motives - that it's O.K. to do whatever you want to another person's dog! You'll fine/suspend exhibitors for unsportsmanlike conduct, but you won't suspend this woman for stealing/altering a show dog? Again, I find this position unbelievable! Thank goodness I show in Obedience and Agility, where it doesn't matter if a dog is neutered or spayed. If I were a breed exhibitor, I'd be even more flabbergasted!
I know of this because of the person who help get the STOLEN dog back a THEFT is a THEFT in anyones world to be found quily of a felony what is wrong with the AKC the FELON in this case was just plain MAD at Ms. Alford she did not own this dog with her had nothing to do with the STOLEN dog so what AKC is saying go head take another breeders dog it is ok with us WRONG do you breeders not PAY AKC they better wake up and smell the coffee and suspened her NOW
My wife was involed with the return of this dog to Ms. Alford, was taken from her yard with help from Ms. Hedlund this should happen to no one no matter who they are Arlie has been in good standing with AKC please blow off any thing bad you hear breeders all to ofen never have much good to say about someone.
While justified, people have had registration privileges suspended for far less. On the other hand, horrendous kennel conditions are ignored...so long as paperwork is in order. The lesson to be learned is that it is perfectly acceptable in the eyes of AKC to steal dogs or house them in filth as long as they recieve the paperwork and $$$. A sheer discrace to the sport of dogs.
Where is your integrity AKC? If you let this pass without suspension you demonstrate how little you care for those who have supported you and their dogs (to whom you owe your reason for existing). I am ashamed and embarrassed for you; but it is not too late to make it right.
