#695

Do you(AKC)really what this individual to be a member in good standing with your organization??? I was under the impression that AKC was top notch, as well as their employees and members. By allowing Clover Hedlund to maintain all of the privilages that AKC offers, you are creating a very unsafe environment for the rest of us and I will not allow my children to participate via AKC registrations or AKC shows. I do not want them to associate with this type of person or an organization that is standing behind her actions. She was convicted in a court of law...what in GODS name is wrong with you???

Laura Lanham said 06/29/05, 5:34 am (verified)
Convicted in court and not reprimanded by AKC? Two-faced.

I find it very dissapointing that such a long established Registry for pure bred dogs would allow any person to take someone else's dog and neuter it without any type of permission. What is to stop other people from doing this to their competitors dogs that they don't think they can win against? Please reconsider this decision before anything else like this could happen again. It is the respectable thing to do.

By not revoking AKC privleges for this individual, the AKC is in essence condoning this type of behavior. The crime warrents permanent suspension and no less.
#689

Jody Desroches said 06/29/05, 2:35 am (verified)
AKC's lack of action in this matter is disgraceful, and should be noted by all in the dog fancy. AKC does NOT have our best intersts at heart.
#688

J.J. Perks said 06/29/05, 2:35 am (verified)
I also am appauled at the decision by the AKC. I agree with John Glenn from California. I too have always been proud of my AKC standing. Where are our rights and protection? I shudder to think that this person can continue in dogs under the cloak of protection and prestige of the American Kennel Club after commiting such a devious act. It is clear as by evidence in the courts that she had malice aforethought! Please reconsider your decision. JJ Perks, Ocala, Florida

John J. Glenn said 06/29/05, 2:14 am (verified)
I have always been proud of being a member and an owner of an AKC registered dog. I have only been at this going on 9 years now but This has to be the worst decision by the AKC that I have ever seen. Does this mean that if you have a great dog for example, someone can come on the show grounds and stealyour dog, neuter or spay him or her and the AKC will do absolutely nothing???? Even after being convicted of a felony in criminal court. Surely you are kidding...RIGHT?? Please re examine this gross oversight and do the right thing. Respectfully. John J. Glenn...Stockton,Ca.
#686

Monique Bertrand said 06/29/05, 1:45 am (verified)
The AKC should seriously reconsider this situation. The theft and neutering of the dog goes against all principles and is a felony in our court of law. This individual should be banned from the AKC and dog showing indefinitely. Please reconsider your decision, you are the main registry that people look to, and an example and precedent needs to be made.
#685

Brittany Rodlun said 06/29/05, 1:36 am (verified)
I feel that anyone convicted in a court of law of a crime involving dogs should be forever barred from anything having to do with AKC functions.
#684

Jenna Lea said 06/28/05, 6:37 pm (verified)
I find it to be a grave injustice to the dog's owners and an insult to the dog fancy community as a whole that Ms. Hedlund's privileges have not been revoked. Hopefully AKC will reconsider.
#683

Liz Van Sickle said 06/28/05, 6:24 pm (verified)
Clearly, this is a very poor decision made by the AKC concerning these serious charges, in the matter of finding Ms. Hedlund not guilty of a wrongful doing to another exhibitors dog..This decision also sets a bad example. The theft and altering of this dog should warrant extreme penalities followed by a LIFE-TIME suspension from all AKC privileges!

This should certainly be a suspendable act when one considers the fact that hse has been convicted in a court of law. I'm shocked that privileges are not suspended for a long time if not forever.
#676

Celeste Johnson said 06/28/05, 2:28 am (verified)
The AKC will suspend an exhibitor for making rude remarks to a judge or being a bad sportsman. This is much worse. Please, AKC, reconsider your decision not to act in this particular case.

I think it is a disgrace that AKC can be so strict on some policies yet so relaxed on something as important as dog theft and neutering of a fellow competitor's dog. I think if the US Courts can find this person guilty of a felony act that AKC should support their findings and back up the judicial system

If this person gets by with stealing a fellow exhibitor's dog and rendering it unbreedable, and gets buy with it, then I am positive that others will feel that is an option for their competition, and that will significantly impact not only the gene pool for it's breed, but it will also mean less dogs/puppies to be registered and a loss of income to AKC. If a court of law investigates and finds the person guilty that should be enough to base a reprimand by AKC. Without an AKC reprimand the act will occur repeatedly and no one's dog will be safe at a show, and it's impossible to have your eyes on your dog(s) every minute.
