I agree this woman should have all priveleges revoked for life. It's about time the AKC grew "a pair" and started taking control of the situations in which they are responsible to care for. But then again throw around a little money and you can get away with anything right?! This absolutely makes me sick! No wonder i will never own another AKC bred dog... nor show again.
I would hate to feel someone has the right to be included with no prejudice by a club that approve the stealing and maming of my animal, how very sad the MONEY essentially takes presidence over what is good and just ,this woman should be banned from owning any AKC dogs and from all priveledges for life -in the "REAL" wolrd the are consiquences for actions taken-
Once again AKC decides not to get involved and take a stand against injustice. Again, "we're just a registry" HA! Suspension of AKC showing privileges is the least punishment she could have rec'd from AKC. I think it's amazing how AKC can pick and choose which issues it should be involved in. They don't do anything about registration disputes (not their problem), but they can get involved in PAWS????????
I cannot imagine how AKC can justify their decision. They should be barred for life as far as I am concerned. I hope NO judge will even pin one of her dogs. LEASE reconsider your decision.
I am an Akc Registered Handler and I would hope that the Akc has more backbone to do something about this. I have seen many other people suspended for things much less than this. I hope that more Reg. Handlers sign.
Theft of a dog is a crime. Alterhing an animal that does not belong to you is yet another crime. These crimes are beyond discussion, the acts have happened. AKC's integrity is on the line.
I guess if the club I put my faith in wont step up and say this is wrong and we wont tollerate it in our club...How as a breeder can I feel I will have thier support when something unethical happens to me,this is an injust. There is no turning back for this breeder she has lost that male for her breeding program and showing.I feel AKC needs to rethink thier decision and I feel this woman who stole and nuetered Clipper should be suspended for life from the AKC...It was done out of spite steeling and neutering Clipper, it is in black and white, she was found guilty in a court of law and AKC needs to follow up by suspending her.AKC is suppose to be there for the ethical breeders. If your not there for the ethical breeder who is????
Time to wake up AKC and do the right thing!
I had a friend that was suspended for 10 years and fined 1000 for noting down the wrong micro chip on her record for one dog. She was not allowed to see the chip number which may have only been a transposed number Yet AKC won't even susspend a convited dog theif
I urge you to reconsider your decision. Full suspension is a absolutely necessary. I have read of people being suspended for far less. She committed a serious crime and violated someone else's property. Please reconsider actions.
Theft of property is a crime, and neutering a dog you do not own and without the owner's permission is also a crime. Ms Hedlund was found guilty of these crimes in a courrt of law. By refusing to suspend Ms Hedlund for these crimes, the AKC is condoning her actions as acceptable. Her actions are not acceptable and neither is the inaction of the AKC Board of Directors.
The decision to not suspend Ms. Hedlund is incomprehensible. Ms Alford's Ch can no longer be shown, the victim is in reverse double jeopardy, while the guilty party continues to show in good standing. Another clear example of the wrong headedness prevalent at the AKC at the current time. AKC takes the position this dog willingly and happily left his family - no cruelty?
I am currently suspende from AKC privilages for poor houskeeping, which I had no controll over due to being Clinically Depressed. Ms Helund committed a willful transgression that affected others (my poor housekeeping affected nobody else) and you let her off??? The AKC does not show the ability to think clearly, let alone be fair. Oy!!!
I assume this means that the AKC is condoning illegal acts by people now--
although no physical abuse may have been done to Clipper, the AKC is making it clear that a CH is only for show, not the betterment of the breed. If they thought it was, they would see that a potential stud that had been proven in the ring being neutered by a theif is a cruelty to the breed, the breeder, the owner, the handler (if they are not the same) and the judges who felt that this dog was a good specimen of the breed. SHame on you AKC for not standing up for what is right and just.
AKC's lack of action regarding this issue is ultimately condoning Ms. Hedlund's actions. It it criminal that AKC has not taken action against Ms. Hedlund.
Theft is a crime, and neutering a dog without the owner's permission is also a crime. By not suspending Clover Hedlund for these actions (for which she was found guilty in court), AKC is condoning these crimes. Please reconsider your decision.
"The AKC was created to support the sport of purebred dogs. Lately, the decisions of this organization, including the matter addressed here, is not only contrary to the Bylaws, but totally aggregious. It is time that the AKC stops and takes a look at who it is really supposed to represent." The above quote from a fellow petitioner says it all. The AKC no longer supports sportsmanship or protects dog breeds. The decision in this case just highlights this fact.
It is undisputed that this was a criminal act committed against a fellow AKC member. The maiming of her dog left him unable to be shown or bred. Is this not (breeding and showing) within the purview of the Club’s sphere of concern?
If this person had commited a felony unrealted to the sport of purebred dogs, I can see not suspending her. But she STOLE a show dog; she neutered it, and she was convicted of this in a court of law. How can you NOT suspend her for "actions inimical" to the sport? I'm very disappointed in AKC, for the second time this month.
I absolutely cannot believe that AKC would not punish a woman who stole a dog, neutered it, and was subsequently convicted of a felony. Do the right thing! You aren't the only game in the business, AKC.
A person who could do this needs to be severly repromanded by the club (AKC) who she is a part of. A new person who is not aware of what happened could also risk losing their show dog. She must not be allowed near any AKC function.
The AKC was created to support the sport of purebred dogs. Lately, the decisions of this organization, including the matter addressed here, is not only contrary to the Bylaws, but totally aggregious. It is time that the AKC stops and takes a look at who it is really supposed to represent.
It is completely false to declare that the dog was unharmed. His normal hormonal system was irrevocably harmed. For the AKC to declare that this dog only demonstrates that they are pandering to the Animal Rights groups who wish for all dogs to be spayed/neutered.
This woman and other thieves like her are a threat to any person who shows and beats the competition...if you allow her to get away with it you are endangering the very people who support your mission.Expelled for life should be an easy decision for AKC to endorse.
By not taking action against this person you are sending the message that it is ok to steal and eliminate the competition by spaying/neutering it, as long as the dog is not harmed in the process. What about the potential for harm? By putting that dog under for the surgery it could have been lost. (There is always the slim chance.)
There is no reason to let people see this action as something that is ok. after hearing this i fear that it will not only happen in my breed but possibly to my dogs, this conserns me deeply and it is setting a poor standard if the AKC will not suspend this woman for atleast a couple years if not for LIFE!
So the AKC is sending out a message that our dogs are no longer safe at their shows? I have to fear that some one will follow me home and steal my dog?
This is sending a message that a person could. for instance, shave the topknot of the number one poodle and face no penalty! Reconsider your unwise decision!
This is absolutely appalling! If the AKC doesn't terminate this person's right to belong, how can anyone trust your breeder recommendations? Shame on you!
Its a crime in this country to bring a child to the dr. unless they are with the legal guardian~ but with a dog its perfectly acceptible to bring it in and have it neutered? After stealing it? You've got to be kidding me~ shame on the AKC...whats really scary is what if this becomes a trend!
This situation is abhorrent. Ms. Hedlund should be prohibited from any future activity with the AKC. What is to keep her from similar or worse behavior in the future.
I THINK THIS IS JUST AWFUL. IF OTHER'S SEE THAT THIS ONE GOT AWAY WITH IT, THEN WHY CAN'T THEY GET AWAY WITH IT. SURPRISINGLY, AKC IS NOT THE ONLY REG. LETTING PEOPLE GET AWAY WITH A CRIME! OTHER'S ARE LETTING PEOPLE SELL OTHER BREEDER'S DOGS WITH FAULSIFIED PAPER'S AND HAS NOT SUSPENDED THE FRAUDGALENT SELLER YET AND IT'S GOING ON A YEAR SINCE THIS WAS DONE!SO COME ON PEOPLE BE THE ONE'S TO SHOW PEOPLE THAT YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!AND THAT YOU ARE THE BETTER REGISTRY TO STAND BEHIND IT'S MEMBER'S
