Judy Lapham :
I was amazed to read this letter and realize that AKC does not plan to
suspend this individual! Ms. Hedlund certainly exhibited conduct
prejudicial to the sport of purebred dogs when she neutered Clipper, much
less stole him! As a professional involved in animal care, I have always
taken issue with some of AKC's policies (e.g. disregarding certain
health issues that really should be explored before a dog is deemed a
"champion" of a certain breed), and this decision only proves to
reinforce my concern that AKC does not have its priorities in line when
making impacting decisions like this. I really have to question the
integrity of those in the decision making capacity at AKC. Please take the
time to reexamine this issue. |

Anyone found guilty of commiting a criminal act in which dogs are involved
should be suspended from AKC privileges. It can endanger others and their
dogs who participate in the sport if such a criminal is allowed to remain
in the Sport of Dogs. |

AKC MUST take action on this problem. Clover Hedlund deserves suspension
for what she has done to a valuable French Bulldog. Please take the time
to re-examine your original decision on this problem. |

AKC suspensions should not be limited to animal cruelty. The act of animal
theft should be justification for serious discipline by the AKC. I would be
interested in knowing just what the AKC considers grounds for suspensions.
If this is not, then it must be next to impossible to be suspended from the
AKC! |

Laura Weatherford :
Suspending this man should have been an automatic reaction considering his
crimes involving registered animals. AKC's bylaws must be amended
immediately if they wish to remain a viable and credible organization. |

A person can be suspended for dirtying a motel room. (Not that I think this
is wrong, it should be done), but a criminal act like this theft and
neutering is allowed???? The former looses income for AKC, but our dogs
that we've paid to show and enter are at risk and we are not
protected??? Shame on AKC for not acting to safeguard or dogs. |

I have always been amazed by the concept of a dog registry; AKC, UKC,
NGA...so powerful and so intrusive, yet...so impotent.
Forget cuelty... what happened to good sportsmanship and the desire to
benefit purebred dogs? Felony theft is OK? Felony theft of an AKC
Champion? This just isn't right. |

The refusal of AKC to suspend privileges of Ms. Hedlund is totally
unbelievable. If her actions don't constitute a threat to the sport
and to dogs, I cannot imagine what would. Not just to commit acriminal act
to take someone's dog for an extended period of time but to NEUTER that
valuable animal? That is pretty abusive to both animal and owner in my
estimation. Please reconsider your stance on this matter!!! |

It's bad enough that we have to be aware of everything around us at AKC
shows because thieves who steal purses and such attend the shows. However,
it's horrifying to know that AKC would allow a KNOWN AND CONVICTED
thief to not only attend but participate in the shows. Ms. Hedlund's
privileges should be suspended permanently. I fail to understand your
allegence to a criminal. |

Stephanie Flores :
The lack of action by the AKC in this matter is giving a stamp of approval
to criminals that stealing valuable dogs because of a personnal grudge
won't affect their AKC privileges. This is counter productive to the
image that AKC has been trying to put out to the media for the past few
years. Had I been in the place of Ms. Alford, I would be working for a
lifetime suspension. The mental duress and cost that she must have incurred
in this matter is cruelty. Please reconsider your position. |
