Murfreesboro is a large enough city so that people have to own a vehicle to get around but not everyone owns cars. Public transportation is an essential part of life in most cities of equal size and for people who don’t have cars, lack of transportation makes it difficult to accomplish daily activities. As a college town with a significant population of disabled students and residents it is essential that public transportation be available in Murfreesboro for people to accomplish daily activities. The lack of public transportation severely limits activities that disabled people can participate in unless they arrange rides. The lack of transportation also makes it necessary for disabled people to be in considerable danger by walking the streets more. The most sensible way to alter the current situation is to install a public bus system that serves Murfreesboro all week including weekends and evenings. This bus system would be a benefit to everyone who uses it and it would also improve the economy through the money it generates and jobs it provides. There would also be less traffic on the streets and fewer accidents and more people would ride the bus so everyone would benefit.

We shouldn't have to even make a petition for this...

I live on Barfield Crescent Rd, it's near S. Curch Street and this Rover bus goes only to Warrior Dr. It makes it impossible for me to use it anyway. Me and my husband have only 1 car so it makes it really difficult, especially because we have different schedules at MTSU. I wish there was transportation for everybody no just for those who live close to downtown.

Murfreesboro is growing so quickly, and right now it is so large already. We need an adequate transportation system. Afterall, not everyone in the city has vehicles, and maybe it would actually cut down on some traffic.

Murfreesboro is now larger than Nashville was in the 1950's and they had a mass transit system then, long before then. Why are we waiting?

I support this petition because I was a driver for Medicaid in MS. I know how hard it is for pepole to get a ride. Medicade was paying for it but without our service, some patients wouldn't have gotten to dialysis or cancer treatments.

Murfreesboro may be a "small town," but it is growing quickly and is already large enough that people working lower-wage jobs, looking for work or simply seeking alternatives to driving (or without personal transportation) could really make use of this service. Even if there was only one route (or maybe two or three), with hourly service, that would be a great benefit to the aforementioned parties. As much growth has happened here in recent years, I would think the city/county gov't could purchase a decommissioned bus from Nashville MTA or similar parties that is still maintainable and run a major thoroughfare route on a trial basis. Or maybe the option would be to run a "trolley" route similar to Franklin's. Either way, many people who might be looking for work could find jobs, thus increasing M'boro's financial/tax base, and thus the city (as well as merchants who could get more patrons to their businesses) would benefit.

I know of many people who cannot get back and forth to work because they have no vehicle. They need public transporation

As a college student with no transportation, a bus system would give me a reliable and cheap method of getting to campus and around town.
