La Paloma: Poultrygeist's 1st California premiere
Stats RSS Download
Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead, the newest film from the legendary Troma Team, is a hilarious slapstick gorefest (although not a horror film) that touches on important issues regarding fast food, true love, and [main character] Arbie's fallacies in his excuses of why he didn't go to college (brought on by Lloyd Kaufman's cameo as future Arbie).

However, this movie has NOT seen its premiere in California!

Before I introduce my proposal to all you readers of this petition as well as the recipients at La Paloma, let me shed some light on Troma...

Troma is a film company most known for its over-the-top slapstick comedies. Often percieved as horror films, most are not; they just feature excessive gore. Troma is one of the last truely independent film companies, which means they have no ties to any major movie corporations (just distribution ties to major retailers). They have an enormous international fanbase, most of which are very loyal. Troma's most popular film, The Toxic Avenger, conjured up and directed by Troma President Lloyd Kaufman, has gone to become 3 sequels, a kids cartoon TV show, endless merchandise, and a huge international cult following that dwarfs most independent films. Other famous films include Terror Firmer, Class of Nuke 'Em High trilogy, the NAMCO funded Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., Tromeo & Juliet, etc. They also distribute a vast number of films that feature many Hollywood actors before their heydays, such as Robert DeNiro, James Gunn, Samuel L. Jackson, Marissa Tomei, and Kevin Costner, as well as Trey Parker and Matt Stone's (of South Park fame) Cannibal! The Musical. Troma is of course synonymous with President Lloyd Kaufman, who always has a short video intro at the beginning of every Troma title's DVD, so pretty much every Tromite is familiar with Lloyd, in contrast to Co-president Micheal Herz, who is camera shy and is usually portrayed by Troma's 500-pound actor Joe Fleishaker. Many regular cameos include Lemmy Kilmeister (Motorhead), and porno-superstar Ron Jeremy (who is never featured nude nor in sexual situations, which is done on purpose for comedic irony; a porn star not doing any thing porny).

Despite Troma's large following, they don't get much theatrical release nowadays due to the lack of independent theaters, lack of ratings due to their animosity towards the MPAA (who wouldn't let them have blood for an R rating, yet were extremely lenient to bigger productions and let them have gallons of blood onscreen...)

Troma relys on independent theaters (like the La Paloma) to showcase their films.

Since this may seem at first like a risky investment, I suggest showing The Toxic Avenger first, as it is Troma's most popular film, then if it all goes well, give Poultrygeist its first California premiere. It's possible that Lloyd will make an apperance at this one, which will definately bring in more people.

If both films go well, maybe show other Troma titles from time to time.

San Diego is definately a hotbed for tromites and tromettes, Troma has a booth at ComiCon every year, and I'm sure their San Diego fan base increases greatly every year.

At any rate, support Troma, support La Paloma, and support the cause for truely independent cinema!

Keep Leucadia funky (and tromatized!)
